The ASUS ROG STRIX CH16 (G16CH-I7K3070VR) tower packs an 11th Gen Intel i7 and Nvidia 3070 GPU into a stylish case. The CH16 is my first prebuilt PC since I bought a Dell E521 for college back in 2007. I have been building my own PC’s for the better part of the last decade, and I have built several for friends and family. However, in today’s PC component market prebuilts are becoming more enticing as we deal with ever evolving component pricing. I am more than happy to give this PC a shot though.
Specs:
CPU: Intel i7 13700KF 16 core 24 thread processor with no onboard graphics – 8 “Performance” cores at 3.40Ghz (boost to 5.4GHz) with Hyperthreading to 16 threads, and 8 “Efficient” cores at 2.5GHz (boost to 4.2GHz) and 8 threads
GPU: Asus Dual 3070 (DUAL-RTX3070-8G) 3 slot card – Nvidia 3070 with 8GB VRAM with 3 DisplayPort 1.4a and 2x HDMI 2.1 ports
Motherboard: Micro-ATX custom made for the CH16
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Micron DDR4-3200 (no heat spreader) CL22 (22-22-22-52-2T) with 1xR8 modules
Storage: 1TB Micron 2400 PCIe Gen4 NVME QLC NAND
PSU: Great Wall 750W Semi-Modular PSU 80+ Gold
Cooling: 92mm rear exhaust fan, ASUS 240mm AIO radiator with 2x120mm fans exhausting up
Networking: RJ-45 10/100/1000 port, WiFi 6 (Intel WiFi 6 AX201), Bluetooth 5.3
Ports: Front (top) IO – 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 3.5mm mic, 3.5mm headset
Rear IO – 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 4x USB 2.0 Type-A, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet, 3x 3.5mm audio jacks, PS2, 2x HDMI (not functional), and DisplayPort 1.4 (not functional)
Initial Thoughts and Unboxing
Deciding to go with a prebuilt has some positives and negatives. The biggest decider for me in the past has been price – I could always build cheaper by getting stuff on sale. However, this a meant collecting parts over time (sometimes over a full year) before I had a fully functional PC with current gen parts. With supply issues over the last 2 years prebuilts have really narrowed the gap, and made scarce parts available. I spec’d out a custom build as close as possible to this PC and found it was about $70 cheaper to go that route. The downside with going that route is now I am forced to deal with multiple companies if components fail. That has always been the tradeoff with custom vs. prebuilt. The single point of contact is worthwhile, and I have always had positive experiences with ASUS support.
Initial unboxing of the tower was pretty smooth. It seemed to be well supported inside the box, even though the box looked like it got a little beat up in shipment. Nothing was broken or out of place thanks to the heavy foam inserts. Knowing that the GPU was horizontal I was a bit surprised to see it inside the case without some blocking foam for support. Further inspection shows a support bracket that ties the right side of the GPU back to the chassis, which holds the GPU perfectly fine without sagging. Also inside the box are a collection of SATA power cables (no data cables unfortunately), a cool looking WiFi antenna, and a basic wired keyboard and mouse.
Design
My initial impression of the design of the rig was positive. I liked the overall look of the front panel, and the windowed side panel was a plus. The case’s overall footprint is smaller than my Thermaltake Core P3 chassis, so it takes up less space on my crowded desktop. I am a fan of RGB LED’s, which this case has in spades. The front cover has 2 large stripes of LED lights and inside the case is a strip along the top and right side of the window. The cooling block also has some LED lighting, and the edge of the GPU’s bottom left side has and LED stripe. You can control the LED’s via ArmouryCrate’s Lighting suite. The case has removable front and rear side panels if you need to access anything. Each panel is held in by 2 screws. The left side of the tower, just ahead of the window, is a little arm that flips out. I was initially confused by it but then I realized it was a headset hook.
Looking at the components individually you can see where some money was saved, but others seem to be solid components. The RAM modules are pretty cheap – no heat spreaders and an average/looser CL22. My custom build uses DDR4 3200 CL14 modules, but would be a significant price jump. The NVME drive is nothing crazy as well – QLC NAND is usually relegated to entry level NVMe drives due to read/write speeds as well as durability. The motherboard also takes some cost cutting measures. Based on the layout it looks like Asus started with their PRIME B760M-A WIFI D4 motherboard and chipped away at it. They downgraded the Ethernet from 2.5GB/s to 1.0, removed the upper VRM heatsink shroud, and the side VRM shroud no longer covers the rear IO. Overall, it should perform similarly, but without the beefier VRM heatsinks any overclocking will be reduced. Otherwise, the layout is identical – 3 PCIe x16 lanes, 6 SATA ports, USB headers, etc.
The components that you want to be solid performers are where the money went. The ASUS Dual 3070 (not the OC variant) is a solid GPU that has been around for awhile and has proven performance. It will be a little noisier than it’s triple fan brethren, which appears to be its only drawback. The CPU chosen – i7 13700KF is by all accounts a great CPU and sits at the top of the pack for Intel’s 13th gen i7’s (alongside the 13700K with it’s iGPU). It’s an unlocked CPU which will allow overclocking, and the K variant CPU’s are typically binned higher than the non-K variants. Surprisingly the PSU is also a solid component in this build even if it is on the cheaper side. The Great Wall 750W 80+ Gold PSU sits in the PSU Cultists list as a B-Tier (Mid-Grade) PSU. So while it is a cheaper PSU, it’s at least a solid unit.
I do have some concerns with the design. The case’s outer plastic shell is clipped/snapped down to the inner metal chassis. Removal of this outer shell has befuddled me, and I can only loosen the front and top covers. This makes access a real pain, and without a service guide from ASUS I don’t know how to proceed. I don’t want to snap anything off by trying to force the removal. The fan layout is a pull setup with the rear 92mm fan and the radiator exhausting out of the top. There is no intake fan for better airflow, but there is a mounting location for a 120mm fan on the front. There is also an issue with the lack of filters on the intake, which means the inside of this will get dusty. Couple that dustiness with being unable to remove the plastic shroud means I won’t be able to remove the radiator to blow it out as needed.
Performance
Performance of the G16CH has handled 1440p gaming just fine. I have dual monitors setup right now with a 24” FHD 144Hz panel (not HDR), and a 45” ultrawide 3440x1440 240Hz (HDR) panel. The 45 is connected via DisplayPort and the 24 is connected via HDMI. I played through a couple of my games without issue. Halo MCC ran perfectly on highest settings@1440p. My Dirt Rally benchmark returned 220FPS on maxed out settings. It honestly performed as expected which is a really solid upper range PC. I don’t believe I will have any performance issues with this PC based on my game selection and display settings.
Noise levels at full load were a bit high. The dual fan card really spins up under load, so even with a closed case I could hear the fans. With a headset on the noise is not heard though.
Upgradeability
Upgradeability on a prebuilt machine is certainly something to look for when weighing your options. My original Dell E521 lived 5 years longer than it should have because of upgrades. It saved me a pile of cash going that route vs. doing a brand new build. When looking at the G16CH I have to say that upgradeability is not great.
Easy upgrades are usually RAM and storage. However, without a QVL list for the RAM I can only speculate as to which kit will perform to spec, and which ones will cause system instability. Officially the system supports DDR4 3200, but it could utilize faster RAM modules via XMP. Hopefully ASUS can release some official guidance here. The current NVMe drive can be swapped for a higher performing stick, and then be moved to the second M.2 slot.
By removing the rear panel you can see behind the PSU shroud. In the bottom is a spot to mount a 3.5” HDD or drive tray in order to expand your storage. I pulled my 2TB SSHD drive from my old system and mounted it here, and used one of the pre-existing SATA power cables to power the drive. However, I had to use a 12” “left-angle” SATA data cable to connect it, since a standard right angle cable would not work. These cables are oddballs and not easy to find – I used a StarTec one I had on hand.
The PSU can also be upgraded if you need more power as there appears to be ample room for a larger PSU chassis. You would really only need to upgrade your PSU if you were jumping up to a more powerful GPU. The chassis is tight for longer GPU’s and it looks to max out at around 330mm – the current GPU is 267mm.
If you want to add any expansion cards you will be out of luck. Only 1 of the 3 PCIe x16 can be used due to the 3 slot size of the GPU.
CPU upgrades also appear limited. Socket LGA 1700 supports Alder and Raptor lake CPU’s, which the 13700KF is the top i7 of Raptor. You would have to look towards the i9 Raptor series for meaningful upgrades.
Issues Encountered
There seems there’s an issue with the lighting software because once I fired up the lighting suite the lighting on the CPU waterblock turned off. It does not appear to be addressable inside the lighting software. This may get fixed down the road with an update, but for now its’s a bit annoying.
Overall, this is a solid system. Spec’ing out an equivalent build myself only yielded modest savings. The design of the case looks sleek and it certainly pops with my setup. Upgradeability is the only weakness I can find here, and some of that can be rectified with documentation from ASUS in the form of a QVL list and service manual.

Summary: This PC is perfect for most gamers' needs. It is compact, well equipped, easy to upgrade, well built and looks cool! The only negative I have to say is that it comes with a last gen video card, but it is still plenty powerful for intensive gaming sessions. It is a well-rounded gaming PC great for the most intensive of games. I tested all games at 1440p.
Pros:
-Extras (headphone hook, handle)
-Easy access to interior
-Upgradable
-Plenty of ports
-Great performance
Cons:
-Older video card RTX 3070
-Some generic parts (memory)
-Doesn’t come with screws for upgrades (m.2)
-USB-C is only 3.2 Gen 1
-DDR4 RAM
Setup:
After unboxing the unit and plugging in the included keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi antenna and power cord, I booted up the device. The included keyboard and mouse are very basic, so I recommend an aftermarket set. Setup is a typical Windows setup with the only extra login being for an ASUS account. After this I was up and running. I appreciated that they put a nylon handle in the back of the case to assist with picking up the unit. Of note, the Display Port is not active in the top of the unit as the Intel i7 12700KF does not have any integrated graphics. As such, you must hook up your video to the video card.
First impressions:
I was impressed by some of the extras. In addition to the handle, there is a hook on the left side that comes out to hold a headset. The glass panel is easy to remove as is the metal right side. Build quality seems high overall. The lighting effects are nicely thought out and fun to look at. Looking at the specs, the antenna is an Intel AX201 supporting 160MHz and Bluetooth 5.2. The memory is very generic and is an ASUS 03A08-00023200 model DDR4 PC4-3200 MHz 16GB total. The 1TB hard drive is a NVMe Micron 2400 but performs pretty well and has a heatsink installed. Some parts are outstanding such as the 750W power supply, the processor and cooling but some parts were basically cut corners such as the video card and RAM.
1440p Benchmarks:
CrystalDiskMark: Read 4687 MB/s Write 3606 MB/s
Halo 4 Ultra settings - 100 FPS avg
Overwatch 2 Ultra settings - 170 FPS avg with a range from 140-190
Port Royal - 8111
Time Spy - 13343
Fire Strike Ultra - 8607
PCI Express Feature Test - 21.01 GB/s
Geekbench 6 CPU - 2719 single core, 11793 multi core
Geekbench 6 GPU - 129906 OpenCL, 120806 Vulcan
Cinebench 21127 multicore
Lightroom - 104 12MP photos, 37 seconds; 155 24MP photos, 2:27 min
Horizon Zero Dawn Ultimate quality - 99 FPS
Assassins Creed Odyssey Ultra - 76 FPS
Gaming:
This desktop is great for long term gaming sessions. The fan is quiet even in Turbo mode. Checking the performance, I rarely saw any cases where the processor was bogged down. I rarely had any stutter in games as all the components work well together. Turbo mode does throttle the fan up and down very frequently, so I tended to keep it in Performance mode which keeps things quiet and cool. The GPU didn't get above 65C, and the processor topped off around 71C during sessions of Diablo IV. After a few hours though the fan did spin up a bit more and stutters started. I could not find the background process that was causing it.
Productivity:
With 16GB of DDR4 RAM, most tasks perform well. I would recommend an upgrade to the RAM if you intend to do any video or photo editing down the road. The PC is relatively quiet during normal tasks.
For file transfer, I was surprised that the USB-C ports on top are a slower 3.2 Gen 1 standard which only supports about 500 MB/s. To an external NVMe drive, I could only get transfer speeds up to 462 MB/s even though the drive supports 1050 MB/s. The USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the back support that full speed though. There are no USB-C ports on the back.
Expandability:
The video card is easy to replace as it has plenty of room to spare and a 750W power supply. There is a bracket on the right side of the video card to support some of the weight so that might get in the way of any upgrades.
There is an additional M.2 NVMe slot under the video card. There is no included M.2 screw so you will need to obtain one.
Only two of the memory slots are taken up so you can expand this to much higher capacities. Just keep in mind the motherboard only supports DDR RAM.

A capable pre-built for the moderate gamer
|

Overview: This pre-built by ASUS ticks all the boxes for the casual to moderate gamer looking to upgrade their current setup while also leaving room for future upgradeability.
Things I liked:
- Tempered glass case with tasteful amount of RGB
- Room for reasonable user upgrades (storage, RAM)
- Dual fan radiator for liquid cooled CPU
Things I didn’t like:
- Cloth strap is an interesting inclusion and not something that I would actually use to carry the PC
- PCI slot covers can’t be reinstalled after knocking out
- No additional headers for fans or RGB that I could find
Hardware Design and Build
I overall really like the design of this chassis. The front and top panel is mostly plastic that feels high quality with some nice RGB led channels along the front. There is a flip down headset holder which you may be able to take advantage of depending on where you place your PC. There is a cloth strap on the top backside which is described as a handle, but I would probably carry the computer from the bottom with both hands.
Along one side is a tempered glass panel that lets you admire the inside of the case with RGB strips along the front side and top and RGB accents on the CPU block and GPU. Overall, the aesthetic and style of the chassis and the amount of RGB in this case strikes a good middle ground between something that is overwhelming and over the top vs something that is underwealming.
Additionally, what you expect from a pre-built PC is good cable management and overall this system seems to be assembled well. There was no questionable cabling visible from the motherboard side and taking the back panel off revealed tidy cables and zip ties and I had no trouble getting the cover back on.
Performance
From gaming to CAD design this PC handled all the modern titles I through at it. I mainly play Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone and overall I had a great experience with both. While I don’t have a 4K monitor I was able to drive my older ultra-wide monitor which has a resolution of 3440x1440 @ 60 Hz usually on high settings with no stuttering or tearing.
This computer has a capable 13th gen Intel i7-13700KF with a Micron Gen 4 NVMe SSD which reported respectable numbers in its CrystalDiskMark tests (see attached photo). Likewise – Cinebench and 3DMark ranked the system configuration at or slightly below what you would expect for a similarly configured system in CPU and GPU rendering which I think is great considering the price point.
Upgradeability
Likely you are getting this PC with the hope of potentially upgrading it in the future. I outline the upgrades that one might reasonably want to do in the future given the configuration this PC ships in.
RAM – Filling the 2 empty slots with 8 GB each to bring the total from 16GB to 32 GB
STORAGE – For extra game storage you can install an additional M.2 drive in the available PCIe Gen4x4 slot.
PCI – Additional networking card (I personally installed a 10G NIC into mine) or additional M.2 storage with the appropriate card.
CPU – With the 13th Gen Intel processors being the last to use the LGA1700 socket, you likely won’t be updating the CPU.
GPU – The 750 W power supply has ample headroom to upgrade to an ASUS 4070 Ti down the road.

Great gaming rig using all OEM parts

As an avid gamer, I've always been on the lookout for the perfect gaming rig that can keep up with my pursuit of immersive gaming experiences. With this latest prebuilt ASUS ROG Gaming Desktop, equipped with the mighty Intel Core i7-13700KF, a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, and standard 1TB SSD, we come close to that.
When it comes to gaming, the ASUS ROG Gaming Desktop leaves no room for compromise. The RTX 3070 graphics card is great for this generation of games, offering an unparalleled level of visual fidelity and buttery-smooth frame rates. It has 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, which should be good for most people's use case. The motherboard comes with 16GB of memory, but is expandable up to 128GB. Playing graphically-intensive titles at ultra-settings has never been so seamless, and the graphics card's ray-tracing capabilities add a whole new layer of visual splendor to every scene. Overall, you sort of know what you're getting here: a mid-level gaming PC that can handle most GPU-intensive tasks admirably. The only downside here is the GPU being a blower design, and an OEM-style model.
The heart of this gaming PC is the Intel Core i7-13700KF processor, and it does not disappoint. With its powerful 8-core, 16-thread architecture, clocked at impressive speeds, multitasking becomes a breeze. The CPU handles heavy gaming loads with ease, ensuring consistent and smooth gameplay. This is also the unlocked version, which is a major plus in my book. Even during intense gaming sessions, the CPU's thermals remain stable, thanks to the liquid-cooling system, which isn't really advertised but should be.
Investing in a gaming rig is not just about the present; it's about securing an enjoyable gaming experience for years to come. The ASUS ROG desktop excels in this aspect with its future-proofing capabilities. The inclusion of the RTX 3070 ensures that most upcoming games will run well at higher settings for many years to come. Furthermore, the generous 16GB memory and spacious 1TB SSD provide ample room for expansions and future upgrades, ensuring the system stays relevant and top-notch even as gaming technology advances.
The ASUS ROG desktop boasts a sleek and standard design that complements any gaming setup. The durable construction exudes premium quality, making it evident that this machine is built to last. The desktop's thoughtful internal layout not only aids in heat dissipation but also facilitates easy access for upgrades, should the need arise in the future. This is definitely ASUS' best design in regards to heat, which is a welcome one, as their previous prebuilts were known to have cooling issues. I also appreciated the carry handle and the headphone slot that pulls down. The lighting is there if you want it but isn't overly distracting.
In the end, this ASUS ROG desktop is perfect for most uses, especially when it comes to gaming prowess. Its RTX 3070, coupled with the mighty Intel Core i7-13700KF, delivers a quick and smooth experience across the board. I'm continually impressed by its ability to handle any game I throw at it, all while staying relatively quiet and cool. This PC should be usable for years to come, making it a good model for anyone.
I just wish there were some non-OEM stuff inside the rig itself, mainly to complement switching cases or other parts, eventually, if you ever would want to. I suspect most who are buying this don't have plans to do it, but it would be nice.
That said, it's a great PC and on sale it seems like a decent deal in today's market.

FAST gaming PC that can be your daily driver too

The ASUS "ROG" (Republic of Gamers) division has been pumping out the hits lately - from the Flow X13 and Z13 gaming ultrabooks that can use the XG Mobile GPUs to the ROG Ally handheld gaming computer. This ROG Gaming Desktop is another great addition to the line - and like some of their other products, it's good for far beyond just gaming.
But, let's start with gaming. Out of the box, you're getting a powerful CPU (the Core i7-13700KF brings 8 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores for 16 total cores or 24 threads at over 5ghz) paired with solid dual channel RAM (still DDR4, but solid nonetheless) and the sweet spot of the RTX 3000 lineup, the RTX 3070. This GPU is really made for high refresh rate 1440p gaming, though you can also do quite well at 4K if you limit yourself to more in the 60 FPS realm. Without any tweaks or changes, I was hitting nearly 13,500 in the Time Spy benchmark, which is a great score.
The CPU itself is no slouch, powering through Cinebench and the SSD returns solid if not eye popping numbers in its own tests. And that (combined with the much quieter AIO water cooling setup on offer here) means this PC could be truly used as a daily driver machine. It runs quiet and cool in every day tasks, dispatching them with ease - and then turns into a true beast of a gaming PC when needed. So it does it all.
And it looks good doing it - the case is really nice with really solid ventilation and bright LED lighting (RGB, if you're into that sort of thing). It is tall and skinny (to a greater degree than many other PCs) but the thermals still seem good. Not sure about the strap on the back, but the overall physical impression is solid.
Now, all of those capabilities don't come cheap of course - but it's a very reasonable price overall for what you get (which is really a VERY high end PC). It's well-built and should last for some time to come increasing the value equation. Is it worth it? That's all in the eye of the beholder, but if you want a gaming machine with the chops to be more, then this is a great place to start!

TL;DR
The ASUS ROG G16CH-I7K3070VR is a steller 1080p and up to 1440p gaming performance rig but falls a bit short when it comes to gaming in 4k.
–
This specific ASUS ROG Strix G16CH comes equipped with an i7-13700KF (the K means it’s an unlocked CPU while the F means there’s no integrated graphics), 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070, and 1 TB SSD. Everything is housed in a wonderful minimalistic chassis that features RGB lighting and a front mesh panel to help support airflow. When it comes to the assembly quality and cable management of a pre-built gaming PC; I have to say that ASUS did an amazing job. I like that the power supply is kept separated within the chassis and all the cables are tucked away nicely (the perfectionist within me is screaming… OH YEAH ASUS!). Oh yeah and for you gaming folks out there that enjoy looking through that glass side panel into your beautiful setup, the ASUS ROG G16CH chassis has just that. I also like that the chassis comes equipped with a double D-ring handle so that if you need to lift/move your setup for whatever reason you don’t need to make it awkward and bear hug your unit to make that move. For those of you that love a headset holder; this chassis also has you covered.
There are a couple things I personally found a bit nit picky when it comes to the chassis though. These are my personal opinions so please take it with a grain of salt. So although the power supply is separated, the material they used to keep the power supply separate is quite interesting. Basically the unit I have had some dust or something on top of the power supply housing unit and when I tried wiping it with a paper towel it started shredding the paper towel. I then tried using a wet wipe like a baby wipe and it started shredding that too! I then realized it’s probably best to use a lint free towel which definitely worked much better. The other thing I noticed is the top and front of the case “the slashes” is a plastic like material that’s most likely been painted and when I tried using a swiffer duster it was catching quite a bit in those areas. For anyone that likes to keep their gaming area clean and constantly cleans this is just something to notate on this chassis. I would recommend just using either canned compressed air or an electrical dust compressor to clean the unit from time to time instead of trying to clean it like I did. It would’ve been nice if the material in these areas were “smooth” to the touch instead of what it is (a bit more rough to the touch). It would help us OCD folks have an easier time cleaning it on the daily.
–
Now onto the performance of the ASUS ROG G16CH-I7K3070VR. I’m just going to throw this out there to make it plain and simple. If you’re looking to game at either 1080p or 1440p; this rig will definitely satisfy your needs and wants (without a doubt). Just to name some of the games I ran on this machine: Overwatch, Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone, APEX, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Counter-Strike Global Offensive, The Division 2, and even Witcher 3 (Next Gen Update) - all at either 1440p (for enjoyment) or 1080p (with competitive settings) and had no issues whatsoever. You can expect great frames to where some games are well above 3 digits. Thanks to the 240mm AIO cooler to keep the i7-13700KF cool and the type of RTX that is in the system (ASUS PF DUAL-RTX3070-8GD6-V2); temps are AMAZING! When I say amazing I mean not only is the rig itself quiet even under load; everything is hovering around or below average temps (CPU 60C - Max under 70C / GPU 60-65C - Max under 70C).
Here’s my 2 cents if you’re curious when it comes to 4k performance. I tried playing in 4k and although I could run games in 4k, I wouldn’t necessarily say they were “playable” or “enjoyable”; at least in my standards. If you’re a gamer that wants to venture (or prefer) 4k gaming… I would say it may be best to plan ahead on replacing the RTX 3070. I do know that the ASUS ROG Strix G16CH desktop themselves has the option of going up to an RTX 4080. So if you were to make some upgrades on this desktop you’ll definitely have no problems crushing your AAA titles in 4k (keep in mind you’ll also need to invest in a really good expensive gaming monitor). But overall the ASUS ROG G16CH-I7K3070VR is an amazing performance rig when it comes to 1080p or 1440p for gaming.
–
Long story short, the ASUS ROG G16CH-I7K3070VR is definitely an amazing gaming rig if you are looking to play your games in either 1080p resolution or up to 1440p resolution at high-ultra-maxed settings. There’s some upgrades you can do to this current setup such as upgrading from the 3070 and adding more memory; which would then enable you to run your games in 4k and you’ll definitely be able to comfortably game in “playable” or “enjoyable” settings while maintaining some great frames. So all in all it really depends on what you are looking for. As long as you keep in mind the specs and your gaming resolution/preference; the ASUS ROG G16CH-I7K3070VR should be able to satisfy if not exceed your gaming demands.

The Asus ROG G16CH is my first, new, pre-built gaming tower a long while, so I’m upgrading from a system that’s way past its prime. While I’ve owned ASUS TUF gaming laptops in the recent past, this is my first experience with one of their desktop rigs, and I’m really digging the design and look of it. I also found the integrated flip-out headphone holder a useful feature, since I typically wear headphones all day versus using external speakers.
The specs of this machine are on the high-performance side, without however, hitting the top echelons of current gen hardware. The Intel 13th Gen Core i7-13700KF CPU is zippy with 16 total cores, 24 threads, 3.4 GHz base clock and up to 5.4 GHz boost clock. This build includes 16 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 SDRAM across 2 sticks, with 2 additional slots available for upgrade up to 128GB max. This model CPU does not have integrated graphics despite having an HDMI and DP port onboard (they don’t function with this CPU), so you’ll need to use the NVIDIA RTX 3070 GPU’s outputs which consist of 1xHDMI 2.1 and 3xDisplayPort 1.4a. The graphics card ships pre-installed with a support bracket, and it does occlude the top 3 PCIe x16 slots, though the fourth lowest one is accessible for an addition. The max power rating of the power supply is 750Watts, and a handful of additional SATA power cables are included for expansion.
This system ships with a Micron 2400 1TB QLC NAND NVMe m.2 with max read/write speeds of 4500 MB/s and 3600 MB/s respectively (benchmarked); you can add 1 additional NVMe (Gen 4) in the bottom right-hand corner of the motherboard, though a mounting screw is not included. I did add a PCIe Gen5 m.2 as secondary storage here and while I wasn’t able to take advantage of its full read/write speed potential, it was still almost double that of the pre-installed SSD when benchmarked.
There is RGB lighting throughout the case with a lightning bolt-shaped zigzag down the front of the tower, a vertical LED strip along the inside front of the glass left-hand side panel, and integrated lighting effects on the exterior face of the CPU cooler and GPU. The internal RGB settings can be customized in Armoury Crate and Aura Creator lets you can expand your options and sync the lighting with other devices and accessories.
As for cooling, this build includes a liquid AiO cooler that radiates out the top of the case via two exhaust fans with an additional rear exhaust and passive intake vents on the bottom and front of the case. The GPU also sports two fans along its bottom. Combined, these components are efficient enough to keep the temperatures inside the case under 70°C in most use cases, even during heavy CPU/GPU usage.
In terms of connectivity, there is a 2.5 GB/s Ethernet port, Intel WiFi 6 AX201, and Bluetooth 5.3, all which provide fast high-speed connections to your network and/or wireless devices. Note that you will need to attach the external dual-antenna in order to achieve any usable WiFi reception, which is just another thing to have on your desktop, though you can place it up to 30” away to avoid crowding and interference. There are also a multitude of ports both on the front panel: 2xUSB-A 3.2 Gen1, 2xUSB-C 3.2 Gen1, separate mic-in/headphone-out jacks and on the rear: 2xUSB-A 3.2 Gen2, 4xUSB-A 2.0, 3 audio ports with support for 7.1 channel surround sound, and a combo PS/2 mouse/keyboard port, though the included basic keyboard and mouse as both USB.
In terms of graphics performance, when paired with a 1440p 165 Hz panel, I was able to push 100-120 fps on Ultra settings in games like Path of Exile and Warframe without running into any significant heating issues, lag, or stutter. I was also impressed with how relatively quiet the cooling was, even under heavy loads, compared with my previous rig. As a content creator, I work with and export 4K video on a daily basis, and I was impressed with the speed of processing and rendering video footage with SFX, in nearly half the time versus my previous system, which will save me countless hours going forward.
Overall, this system is a great fit for my needs as a content creator and non-hardcore gamer. It’s fast, quiet, runs cool, and neither pushes the limits nor breaks the bank for a pre-built system. You get decently high-performing specs without spending the time and effort of pulling together components and building out your own custom rig, while still having a handful of options for tweaking and upgrading the system as you see fit.

Solid pre-built machine that could be stronger

While I understand some have concerns regarding pre-built machines, as someone who's built machines, and bought pre-built machines, I haven't had too many problems.
As for this machine, it's solid. I'd question why the choice was made to go with a 30 series card as opposed to a 40 series, but with the lack of full on DLSS 3.0 support in most games, you have no problems gaming with 30 series cards. I'll go more into performance later.
The overall design looks great. I like the thinner front with the RGB strip matching the internal RGB. The case has a pull down section to hold your headphones, and a strap to help carry the rig.
As for internals, this rig is working with a 13th gen i7 processor (13700KF), 16 gigs of DDR4 Ram, a 1 TB G4 SSD, and as I mentioned earlier, the Nvidia RTX 3070.
I tested performance out at 1440p as 1440p is still the sweet spot for PC Gaming. For Star Wars Jedi Survivor, max settings, AMD's FSR off (AMD FSR works on any card) I was getting an average of 35 FPS, which, is solid considering how taxing Star Wars Jedi Survivor is. With FSR on performance, I was getting around 60 FPS.
Running Cyberpunk ;2077, 1440p with max settings native...I was getting around 15 FPS. Now, most people aren't running Cyberpunk at native anything. With DLSS on performance, I was getting around 50 FPS, which is super solid considering I had everything maxed, and Ray Tracing on on psycho.
Running Apex Legends, which, obviously isn't the most taxing of games, but this is where frames matter a bit more...I was getting between 140 FPS and 160 at 1440p with everything maxed.
Running Diablo 4, everything maxed at 1440p, I was getting around 150 FPS on average.
Frames are good, obviously, and the performances I got with this system was solid, but a major key is with the performance I got the system ran cool the whole time, which is super important.
This system comes with a keyboard and mouse, so you have everything you need to game minus the monitor. Overall, my experience was solid. While this system doesn't come with a 40 series card, I wouldn't call this an entry-level system. The performance of the combination of the 13th gen i7 and the 3070 is blowing consoles out of the water, and most gaming rigs. If you're looking to get in to high end PC gaming but don't feel like doing the building yourself, this is a good choice.

A Good Prebuilt for Gaming and Your Modern Office

The ASUS – ROG Gaming Desktop is a solid prebuilt for those who are wanting a plug-and-play gaming computer. This computer contains some great internals that will handle all of your games nicely and, for most, in the highest settings possible. But are you looking for a PC with solid rendering capabilities or modern office work? This computer will handle all those tasks very well too. With the latest gen Intel i7 processor, the RTX 3070(not the latest gen but still a great GPU), 16GB memory, and 1TB of storage, this computer will handle pretty much everything you throw at it. This is my review of the ASUS – ROG Gaming Desktop.
*TLDR at the bottom
=========
IN THE BOX/SET-UP:
The box arrived in great condition, there were no scuffs or holes which was good to see. The PC did come with a soft protective cover too. There was also protective plastic covering on the front tempered glass that can be removed. Other items included were a mouse, keyboard, Wi-Fi antenna, ribbon cables, and some documentation.
As I said before, this gaming desktop is all plug-and-play. Before turning it on, I recommend opening up the case and checking for any loose connections. I didn’t find any with mine but doing so will certainly save you the headache later when something comes loose. After that, plug all cables in, flip the PSU switch, and turn on the PC. This PC comes preloaded with Windows 11 so the set-up process will be through that. Once you are through the setup, the computer should be ready to go!
=========
DESIGN:
I enjoyed the aesthetics that ASUS chose with the case. The RGB lighting combined with the overall design of the case goes well together. On the other hand, I am not a big fan of the Wi-Fi antenna, it seems out of place when I place it on top of the PC. I would’ve preferred the individual “screw-on” antennas that some computers have. Also, the mouse and keyboard that are included with the computer do feel cheap and aren’t the most comfortable. I used the peripherals throughout testing but could never get used to them. I do recommend using a different mouse and keyboard combo.
Internally, cable management seemed fine. The GPU and AIO cooler also have RGB which is cool to see. There are extra memory slots if you are looking to add more too. The fans are not RGB but what I’m worried about is the cooling. The only fans inside the case are the two AIO cooler fans and a single fan in the rear. While testing, overheating didn’t seem to be a problem, but I am mostly worried about long-term use once the thermal paste on the CPU starts to wear down and needs to be reapplied. Dust buildup will likely cause problems too. I guess time will tell.
=========
PERFORMANCE:
In terms of performance, this pre-built can take everything you throw at it! I used several benchmarks to test the capabilities of this gaming computer. 3D Mark was used to test out the computer’s gaming capabilities, PC Mark was used to test out the computer’s capabilities with modern office applications (word processing, video conferencing, etc.), Cinebench was used to test out the computer’s CPU rendering performance, and finally, CanYouRunIt was used to see how many of the top games can this computer run. The scores for these benchmark applications can be seen below.
3D Mark
Graphics Score: 13365
CPU Score: 13707
TimeSpy Score: 13415
PC Mark
Overall Score: 8325
*Individual scores for a specific application in PC Mark image
Cinebench
CPU (Multi Core): 24382
CPU (Single Core): 2004
CanYouRunIt
CYRI Score Min: 100%
CYRI Score Rec: 100%
These benchmark scores show that this gaming computer is capable of handling everything from heavy tasks like gaming, 3D rendering, and simple tasks like running office applications. But many will buy this desktop for gaming, how does it truly handle in that area? I was able to test out several games ranging from story-driven games like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs to more action-packed games like Destiny 2 and GTA V. To say the least, this computer handles all these games wonderfully. I set all the games I tested to their highest possible setting and even then, they all performed well. Note that I was gaming at 1080p, higher screen resolutions may vary in performance. No frame rate, low memory, or overheating issues were experienced.
=========
FEATURES/OTHER NOTES:
- RGB is fully customizable through ASUS’s “Armoury Crate” software
- Armoury Crate can be also used to monitor hardware, manage games, and more
- Computer has 2 memory slots available if you want to add more memory
- Multiple USB-A and USB-C ports are available for your devices, headphone and microphone ports
are available too
- Case has a built-in headphone stand to hang your over-the-ear headphones which is neat
- GPU has two modes
available, a performance and quiet mode, which can be changed on the card physically
- A Wi-Fi 6 card is included which is good to see
- 1TB SSD allows for ample space and quick boot-up speeds
- A lack of airflow inside the case and insufficient fans may cause overheating in the long term when
the thermal paste starts to wear down or dust builds up
=========
CONCLUSION/TLDR:
Overall, this is a solid pre-built. This gaming desktop should be able to handle everything using its high-end internals like the 13-gen Intel i7 processor and the RTX 3070 GPU. From using benchmark applications and general testing, I was able to see that this gaming computer will indeed handle a lot from 3D rendering, gaming, and running modern office applications. One criticism is the cheap keyboard/mouse combo provided. For the price, I feel there could have been a better one included. I do recommend using your own since the ones included do feel cheap and uncomfortable. Another criticism is the lack of airflow and fans inside the case. While testing, I didn’t experience any overheating but in the long run, I am afraid such issues will occur. I recommend cleaning inside the case every once in a while and reapplying the thermal paste every year or so to prevent issues. In conclusion, if you are looking for a solid prebuilt, you cannot go wrong with this ASUS – ROG Gaming Desktop.

I have been using ASUS products for years and I have always had good luck with them. My daughter has an older ROG laptop that she never gives a moment to rest, and it has been very reliable. After using this ROG desktop for a little over a week, it appears to be the same great quality.
<<<Pros>>>
1. Well designed - configurable RGB lighting, a built-in strap for easily moving/carrying, easy to access ports on the top, and a built-in headphone holder on the side of the case.
2. Quiet cooling. Even set to extreme mode, with the GPU showing nearly 100% utilization, cooling fan noise is minimal and there are no temperature issues. With an ambient of 24C, the case temperature sits around 30C, primary SSD temperature averages 40C (50C peak), CPU temperature averages 60C (peak 80C), and GPU temperature averages 65C (72C peak).
3. Impressive performance. The GeForce RTX 3070 may be a few years old, but with reasonable settings it has no problem hitting well over 100fps on most of the games I tried and even with graphics settings on ultra still managed 60fps. Some games I have tried: Metro Exodus Enhanced (~100fps - Full RTX, ultra quality, 3840x1080), Mech Warrior 5 (~80fps - RTX, ultra quality, 3840x1080), Forza Horizon 5 (60fps, high quality, 3840x1080), Fortnite (~180fps, 3840x1080), FNAF Security Breach (90fps, RTX Medium - fps too low on high, ultra quality, 1080p), Quake II RTX Demo (150fps, RTX, max quality, 1080p).
4. 2 additional RAM slots and an additional SSD (M2) slot allow for some easy, quick, and affordable upgrades.
5. ASUS Armoury Crate software makes it easy to change performance settings, RGB lighting effects, and monitor system performance. It has a logging feature that can be helpful in identify areas where you are pushing the limits.
<<<Things to Consider>>>
1. The included instructions are not that helpful and some features are not mentioned at all, but the design is intuitive.
2.The power supply has an intake at the bottom of the case - so I would not set it on the floor if you have carpet or a rug that could block it (plus you can't see the cool RGB lighting in the case).
3. Although an easy fix, 16GB of DDR4 could be a limit for some games - data from Armoury Crate showed I was near 100% when playing some games. I added an additional 16GB for ~$30.
4. The 1TB SSD (~870GB available) to start is not bad, but you can fill this up pretty quickly with some games approaching 100GB. If you take advantage of the additional SSD slot, consider adding a low profile heat sink, because it sits below the video card and air flow is limited when the GPU fans are not running.
5. I am not a fan of the external Wifi antenna, but it is required for acceptable performance.

After aetting up this Asus ASUS - ROG Gaming Desktop and trying it out I have to say Asus doesnt dissapoint. This gaming desktop is fast, quiet, and the graphics are great! The case design on it looks amazing and gives it a great wye appeal. For a pre built desktop its everything we needed for our kids daily gaming habits. We experienced no issues with it lagging, the graphics were on point for each game we played and it runs smoothly for as long as we play it. I love that its compact and fit right under our desk without issues, it was easy to setup and get working. I love that it came with a mouse and keyboard because my old one was needing to be replaced.
Just some examples but we like plaging Call of duty, my kids love roblox, they love racing games... so after playing different games we found that each one ran smoothly and fast. The graphics for call of duty using this system was probably the best we have seen opposed to using our xbox. Along with our 4k monitor, the graphics are just insanely realy looking.
We arent hardcore gamers but a family who enjoys normal gaming. After trying it out on all our normal games i wanted to check out some "kid educational" games for my younger children. Even those looked so much better and ran faster.
Overall im highly pleased with the ASUS - ROG Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-13700KF - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 1TB SSD for its graohics and speed as well as never dissapointing on the look of the products!

finally got to mess around this Asus ROG RTX 3070gaming desktop. first impressions of the rig is that it’s very small, it’s compact much smaller than my currently desktop, I do love the ROG handles on the top located on the back. the desktop also looks like it’s seating on a weird off angle guess for style purposes but I think the design just playing tricks on me because it definitely makes you think that’s it in a angle. also the packaging came with a standard keyboard and mice and I wouldn’t recommend if you are planning on gaming, would definitely recommend you look into other keyboard and mouse. this pc is packing with i7 as well which perfect for this combination that would be able to handle if you ever plan on streaming, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD is a great memory start to start with
currently have a 4k 120hz monitor so that was the only way for me to test this Asus Rog rtx 3070 desktop. so far during regular browsing without gaming the fan is fairly quiet RGB quality inside the desktop also has great combination and the light defuse/ blends perfectly. talking about playing games on this Asus Rog desktop, I was playing Valorant on 4k I was getting 200+ fps, while the GPU temperature was around 66c, CPU temperature 61c pretty good for that game was enjoyable playing on this desktop. CPU usage during game was about 24% to 33%. Halo infinite seems pretty demanding but still manage to get decent frames while playing the game in 4k you get about 70fps while using high setting which wasn’t bad and still playable. dialed things down to see for lower settings and you get around 89fps breaking about 90+ fps.
3070 with i7 CPU would also handle some of your VR games, it’s a good way to explore that part of gaming as well while having a Asus Rog desktop like this. the fan noise while gaming is something I have gotten used to so for me it’s normal that not enough to bother anyone while gaming. the only main issue for me about this desktop is air flow, doesn’t have much airflow compare to other case out there. you would definitely would want to check and clean this pc often considering not much air flow is happening. again coming from other desktops those are the most simple things gamer quickly notice.
