This motherboard is great- the setup is easy, the Aura Sync next to the premounted I/O shield and next to the second M.2 storage port. There is plenty of accessibility and ports with this, so if you have tons of VR equipment like me, then you will have no problem with the USB!

My PC build has now hit 5 months to complete. This was the last major purchase needed and I am beyond excited to install. MB is sturdy, looks even nicer than pictured and comes with everything you need to get going.

The motherboard is nice. The BIOs and overclocking is good. The AI overclocking is interesting too. The biggest gripe with this board is the top m.2 slot. IF YOU GET THIS BOARD - check these screws foremost!! The screws on the heatsink are incredibly difficult to unscrew. You have to be extremely careful to not strip the screws. They should’ve eased up on how hard they factory screwed them in. They should’ve also used flat heads or anything other than philips for these. I managed to unscrew them after a lot of effort and had to take out my graphics card just to gain more leverage and space to work... All for 2 tiny screws. Do better ASUS. The bottom m.2 slot was just fine tho, as both should’ve been from the start. I also had some bent header pins out of the box, which was unfortunate - but I managed to tweeze them into place and they worked in the end. Other than that, it’s still a nice motherboard. Just make sure to check the top m.2 screws.

board has excellent features and overclocks very well, however the wifi antenna that it comes with is absolute garbage. I installed some other antennas from a different build and it completely solved every issue.

    Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero

I have always loved Asus and MSI motherboards. I had read that the MSI Meg was recommended over the Maximus XI Hero as it had a better VRM, but I've always preferred the onboard sound of the Asus ROG lineup. So this time, I went back to Asus. My first motherboard died after a week. I figured, okay, that happens. I exchanged the board for the same model. Not too long after starting the system (not right away however), I started getting some sort of signal noise out of my speakers (which I ran with my previous build). First I started looking for external influences, but no matter what I did, I was finding I could not get rid of the noise with the Asus board (unless I uninstalled the Realtek drivers or disable the onboard sound from the BIOS). I started reading on this issue and have found this problem looks to have existed for a couple generations now and it seems there are a lot of potential fixes. I've tried several with no luck. Hours into this, I've still not figured out the problem. I've also been unable to get Sonic Studio and Sonic Radar installed, which was a major factor in my buying decision. I'm going to keep working on the issues and will likely have to contact Asus. If I get things resolved, I'll try and make it a point of coming back and updating the post. So far, I am quite unhappy with my purchase and have serious regrets of not going with the MSI Meg. I have never had issues with my MSI boards. Sadly, this is the second Asus board I've had challenges with (I had a z87 Asus ROG Impact ITX board with a Haswell processor that gave me some issue a few years back. I did love that motherboard after working through the issues). If you a tossed up between this board and the MSI Meg, I'd have to say, listen to the reviewers. So far, I regret that I did not listen to the reviews and going with the Meg as the preferred board. Best Buy Experience: When I returned the first board after it failed, Best Buy customer service was excellent. If you are in the Portland area, the support at the Cascade store is quite good and product selection there for PC's is quite excellent. West side stores while great, just don't have the product selection of this store.

      Dear zurilius,

Thank you for sharing your reviews and we're sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with your ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI). ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and final inspections for both hardware and software before we release it worldwide. ASUS provides warranty for the unit in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. Have you tried breadboarding your system to debug your unit? In order to do so, try taking the motherboard out of the case and set it on an insulated surface. Install JUST the CPU/cooler, and 1 stick of memory in the first slot. Plug in the 2 PSU cables to the MB. Connect the motherboard, and connect the monitor to the integrated video if it has it. Turn on the PSU. Followed by pressing the Start button. If the issues persist, feel free to contact me if you have any technical or general questions. You can reach me at [email protected]. Your case for reference is N191050330.

      Thank you for choosing ASUS!

      Best Regards,

I was used to the limited AMA bios, so do your homework for initial setup, but other than that everything was pretty strait forward. This board ships with auto overclocks ON just for info, this board wants to push the cpu right out of the box. Good board for beginner builders other than the slightly complicated BIOS settings. I paired it with an 8700 and everything I own runs butter smooth now. GTX 1080 runs like a pizza oven at 4K, so I run open box near a portable a/c unit. Also comes with a nifty front panel light connector thingy which was actually quite nice...

This is truly an amazing motherboard, Primarily for Gamers though. That being said my PC scores higher as a desktop and server setup than as a gaming PC and it absolutely rocks as a gaming PC. This was the only part that was replaced from my old PC setup. Has features none Gamers would not need and is pricey. Over clocked my I9 9900k to 5.1 ghz. with a couple of clicks in the BIOS using the auto setup feature and it runs rock solid stable. Definitely a good buy if you have the money to spend.

Love my MOBO Asus software is one of my favorites and the board looks awesome. Overclocking is no issue with this guy. The blue tooth connection could be better. I have to hard wire my xbox elite 2 the wireless connection wont hold very well and I sit a foot away from the supplied antenna.

Don't count on the Aura RGB crap to work. The software is a disaster (doesn't even launch for me, multiple reports of the Aura Sync software being inoperable). The advertising for Aura Sync is hype, but the actual experience is the most frustrating thing I have ever been through and I absolutely despise the fact that they're still allowed to advertise their Aura RGB lighting.

Cannot be any happier. This motherboard in my opinion is the best z390 board out there. The aesthetics on this board are sick and even has RGB! This motherboard will also not let you down if you plan on overclocking.

Caught this onsale bundled with an i9. I was going to go with a ASUS Prime, but I'm glad I opted for this one instead. The Aura Sync is a nice bonus feature, especially if you are installing other RGB devices that are compatible with Aura Sync.
