As a 25-year-old avid gamer, I had the opportunity to experience the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 gaming laptop firsthand. With its impressive specifications, including an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR5 memory, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics, this laptop promised to deliver an exceptional gaming experience. In this review, I'll delve into its design, performance, display, portability, and overall value for gamers.
Design:
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 showcases a sleek and stylish design that exudes a premium feel. The off-black color adds a touch of sophistication, and the thin bezels around the 16-inch FHD display contribute to an immersive gaming experience. The laptop's build quality is solid, with a durable chassis that feels sturdy. The backlit RGB keyboard adds a vibrant aesthetic and enhances the gaming ambiance.
Performance:
Under the hood, the Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB DDR5 memory offer impressive processing power, allowing for smooth multitasking and seamless gameplay. Paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, this laptop handles graphically demanding games with ease. I experienced minimal lag and consistently high frame rates, making gameplay enjoyable and immersive.
Display:
The 16-inch FHD display with a 165Hz refresh rate is a standout feature of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16. The high refresh rate ensures smooth visuals and reduces motion blur, resulting in a more fluid gaming experience. The color accuracy and vibrancy of the display are impressive, offering vivid and lifelike visuals. Whether playing fast-paced action games or exploring open-world environments, the display truly shines.
Portability:
One of the notable aspects of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 is its portability. Despite packing powerful hardware, the laptop remains lightweight and slim, making it convenient to carry around. The battery life is decent, providing several hours of gameplay on a single charge. The inclusion of USB ports, HDMI, and other connectivity options allows for seamless integration with external devices.
Value:
Considering its performance, display quality, and portability, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 offers excellent value for gamers. While the laptop falls within the higher price range, it delivers on its promises and justifies the investment. The combination of powerful hardware, a high-refresh-rate display, and a sleek design make it a compelling choice for gamers seeking a top-tier gaming experience on the go.
Conclusion:
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 gaming laptop impresses on multiple fronts. With its powerful hardware, stunning display, and portable design, it caters to the needs of gamers who value both performance and convenience. While it may come with a higher price tag, the laptop delivers outstanding gaming experiences, making it a worthy investment for enthusiasts and professionals alike. If you're seeking a gaming laptop that offers power, portability, and an immersive display, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 is definitely worth considering.

I was looking for a decent gaming laptop for when I’m traveling for work and stumbled upon this beauty.
The 3060 paired with the intel i7 really pulls through for this. From Overwatch 2 to rainbow six siege, this laptop will run both at max settings with 140-165fps.
The refresh rate of the beautiful display being 165hz makes for some fluid movements and really makes thing look fantastic.
When gaming heavy, it can get pretty warm but this is normal for a laptop. Temps do rise above 80c even with turbo mode on. The fans will get pretty noisy with this mode but those fans are blasting away. I can see getting a laptop cooling pad in the future just to play it safe
The aesthetics of the laptop are really nice as well. The only downside I feel is that the textured keyboard area is a magnet for fingerprints. I’m not sure yet the best way to clean the material but a paper towel seems to sort of work.
I got this also with 450 dollars off which made it a real killer deal I couldn’t pass up.

An Affordable Powerhouse for Gaming & Editing

I’ve been using this laptop for two years now, and I’m still thoroughly impressed. For an entry-level gaming and video editing rig, it’s an absolute gem. The ability to upgrade the RAM and add a second SSD for expanded storage has allowed me to boost both performance and space as my video editing needs have grown. While it’s not going to rival a high-end editing tower, this laptop offers incredible value at an affordable price point. Keep in mind, it’s not meant for extreme tasks like rendering hour-long 4K videos or pushing the latest AAA games at ultra settings. However, if you’re looking for a portable, reliable machine that delivers more than what you’d expect from its price, this little powerhouse will exceed your expectations!

Great gaming laptop. Definitely a good replacement for my old 2020 G14.
Love the screen size, ratio, and brightness)
Performs well. Speakers are great but could use more bass.
The one disappointment is: the website mentions a 1600p resolution, but going in settings, the max setting is 1200 unless I'm missing a secret setting that increases it more. I would prefer at least QHD, but the display is still great and a good balance of great performance, especially for the sale price.

I purchased this for my kid. He’s 29. Great for school work and even better for games. I would highly recommend to buy at least a thermal chill pad from Amazon. This thing when the fans rev up it’s like a Boeing trying to take off. It’s a given. I don’t like the fact that it says it’s 4k which isn’t its 1440p too right has some screen bleed. Other then that it’s good. A must buy we have played everything and it handles everything really well. It’s great if you buy it on sale because now it’s 1650.99 not worth it. Awesome that you can upgrade the ram and more harddrive if needed making it future proof. I don’t by Bestbuy’s warranties. But I know after a year goes by I will apply thermal paste again. It will definitely need it

After sooo many hours of digging for what I wanted in a CPU/GPU combo, yet something I can travel with should work call for it (graphic design field), this fit the bill. And WOW is it perfect. Incredibly fast and boots sub-30 seconds. This is my first ASUS and I love their Armoury Crate program which allows for easily manually changing for distribution as I see fit toward the GPU, fan speeds, you name it. Would have liked to see it come with a little more RAM but 16GB suffices pretty amazingly. It'll run Blender, Photoshop, and stream Youtube simultaneously without issues when I decided to try doing so.
I'm not much of a gamer these days but I definitely have reason to get back into it. The only thing this machine can't do is give me a break from work to do so! Years ago I got that Police Simulator, out of interest having been a former police officer, when it was beta on Steam and my old computer couldn't do it. I went back in and put it on here. It runs flawlessly (and can do so with other programs open on second screen.)
Aura features are nice, but then again, I'm one of THOSE people when it comes to lighting as shown in the pictures. I got this on a really good sale and feel bad for those who missed out since it has gone back up.
Fast shipping with Best Buy, as always. Even more impressive considering the holiday season. I couldn't be happier with this machine. Will be purchasing a matching ASUS 2nd monitor for high end graphics and make my current 2nd a 3rd for displaying non-graphics stuff like internet/email as I work.
(Picture 1: the ASUS Rog is the active screen on the right, notice it makes my 2nd look washed out - the laptop screen is amazing)
(Picture 2: entire setup - ASUS Rog screen still best in the room and it is not even cranked all the way up with brightness. No doubt in my mind you'd see it fine in *any* lighting conditions)

This is my perfact laptop. having used this device for 1 year so far i can say i am fully pleased with the experience. this laptop handles all tasks thrown at it. the added power options allow to make it more discret or more performance heavy. when running heavy graphics its best to set to a higher power mode to provide more cooling, else she gets hot. she is also a fingerprint magnet but a good wipe with a microfiber cloth cleans her up

This is the only gaming laptop that I want to buy for a simple reason: it does not look too obvious a gaming laptop, a gaming laptop that I can bring anywhere and can serve both purposes (my work and gaming). This laptop is extremely fast, lightweight, a little bit hot and loud while gaming (but it does apply to all the gaming laptops).

I use it already for month and I love it, perfectly run any game on very high settings, haven’t seen any lags.
The only thing that bother me, that it’s heating so quickly and fan is so loud on high power. But in headphones it’s okay, if you live with someone, they won’t like the loud sound :)
I’m glad I choose this one for myself. Display is really good quality, you can customize everything from app, all good.

The specs on this are truly amazing. I did days of research and it really paid off. After having this a month, playing a couple of AAA titles and running some doing some RAM-hungry programming, I truly believe this is the best laptop you can buy at this price range. I don't even know if I would spend more money on a laptop, if I went any higher on the specs I'd just get a desktop. I named mine Notorious-ROG.

It is a fast laptop, it is fluid, it has met my expectations. The bad thing is the ventilation that has an exit to the screen itself, I don't know if it will have an impact over time if it is damaged by hot air and certain Windows 11 failures of the system such as the audio and microphone control system. I do not recommend using the steelseries control program that is lousy and damages all the audio.

Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 is a premium thin-and-light powerful performance gaming laptop that was built with no compromise on build quality in Windows 11. This laptop has 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H CPU with 14 cores/20 threads. NVIDIA RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6 graphics is targeted towards gamers and content creators with high performance at 100W for ultrafast GPU for games.
What is in the box: Asus ROG ZEPHYRUS M16 laptop, 240W Power adapter, Manual/warranty sheets.
Measurement & Weight: It measures 13.98 x 9.57 x 0.78 inches (35.5 x 24.3 x 1.98cm) and weighs 4.41 pounds (2.0kg) easier to carry in laptop bags.
Display: 16-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) ultra-bright 500 nits with 165Hz refresh rate.
Color: Matte Black.
Design: Made of Aluminum magnesium alloy the lid on this laptop is unique, with a diagonal cut separating two portions and a series of small holes. There is also an emblem at the left of the lid for “Republic of Gamers, Est 2006”. Looks great in black compared to the Moonlight color of my G14 but it does attract fingerprint or smudges very easily due its darker color and the rubberized coating on the armrest.
This laptop is 16 inches 16:10 aspect ratio display has a thin bezel with near-rimless 94% screen-to-body ratio. Display is taller than the regular laptop and has excellent screen-to-body ration that looks so good for content creators and for watching movies. Overall ports and look are like G14 expect this has a large glass clickpad and speaker grills on the sides. It has got 6 speakers, 4 on the sides and 2 firing through the bottom.
Asus also used the same ErgoLift hinge that was in ZenBook where the bottom of the laptop lift up at a slight angle when opened fully similar to the G14. This is a great design to open the laptop in one hand and very useful for typing both ergonomically and for air flow/heat expulsion. Couple of grills on the top, bottom and both sides of laptop for great ventilation to reduce heat due to gaming.
Windows 11 was preinstalled and upon initial boot and with few questions like country and keyboard selection it asked to login to my Microsoft account and once done, it started downloading firmware and updating windows.
Performance: This is great laptop comes with mind-blowing performance on a small form factor for gamers. With 14 core this Intel 12th gen Core i7 – 16GB DDR5 Memory is designed for gamers in mind and for users with multitasking/content creators. Laptop comes with 16GB onboard ram and has 3 modes (silent, performance and turbo). Turbo/Manual are only available when plugged in and meant for gaming and other performance intensive demand applications. During my daily usage for the past week, no issues working with multiple tabs on the chrome browser and on the Microsoft IE browser. It automatically switches to modes when it’s not connected to power source and working on battery for efficient battery life. I have attached my benchmark pictures from Cinebench and as you can see it clearly boasts in performance compared to other laptops in test. Performs the best in multicore test compared to single core test but its performance on a portable 16 inch is great on any gaming laptops. Also, this laptop comes with 512GB SSD (PCIe Gen4).
Armory Crate software is easy to load with the dedicated hotkey on the top of the keyboard and its very convenient to change the performance mode of the windows from silent, performance, turbo, and manual. Software provides a great dashboard of the system performance from CPU Stats, GPU Stats, Fan Speed, Memory and Storage details at a quick glance and tweak if required.
During our Geekbench5 testing, it performed around 1540 on single core score and 8727 on multi core score. CPU Score was around 2030 and GPU score was around 900.
Charger/Ports: On the left side of the laptop, you have the power port, HDMI 2.0b port, RJ45 Lan port, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C support DisplayPort/Power delivery, Thunderbolt 4 support DisplayPort/power delivery and 3.5mm combo audio jack. On the right side you have a Kensington lock slot, Micro SD(UHS-II) card reader slot, USB 3.1 Gen Type-A port. You can also use USB C to charge the laptop battery using a 65W power adapter (not included) for greater flexibility and to charge any compatible smartphones or portable devices. I used my MacBook USB C power adaptor and charges well and will come handy during travel where you don’t need to carry the power brick 240w charger. If you need fast charging, then recommend using the 240 W charger that comes with the laptop to save time. No HDMI 2.1 support.
Battery: There’s a 90Wh battery and was able to get around 6 hours on watching YouTube in chrome with screen around 65%. and depends on the various settings and runtimes. It fast charges for first few hours using the included 200W power brick.
Keyboard and Trackpad: G16 has a great full functionality backlit chicklet keyboard RGB with some dedicated hotkeys for volume buttons, microphone mute and ROG Armoury Crate software button. Keycaps feel slightly softer and more rubbery coating compared to G14, but the layout of the keyboard and trackpad combo is excellent compared to previous gen. Also, another cool feature this laptop features is the fingerprint login on the power button. Once fingerprint is configured for various users, just with the power button it recognizes the fingerprint and logs in to that windows user profile. Great security, peace of mind and ease of use N-Key switches. No dedicated PrintScreen key on this layout. This keyboard offers single-zone RGB illumination which is a step up from G14 board.
Touchpad is surprisingly large piece of smooth glass and has good right/left click with excellent tracking, gestures, and swipes.
Speaker & Mic: Compared to other laptops I own; this one has the best audio due to its six speakers powered by Dolby Atmos tech. It has 4 front facing firing through the cuts on the keyboard and two firing through the bottom. Due to Dolby Atmos technology, sound quality is greatly optimized and sounds great when watching movies on Netflix or prime videos or playing games.
Camera: Front Facing 720p camera with built in microphone.
Pros:
· Excellent build quality and beautiful design in this matte black
· RGB Backlighting Keyboard
· Ultra-bright 500 nits 16” WUXGA display with 165Hz refresh rate
· In built 720p webcam and Thunderbolt 4 support
· Wi-Fi 6E Connectivity
· 90Wh 4-cell Li-ion battery
· Great stereo sound speakers with Dolby Atmos support, AI noise-canceling technology with 2W tweeter
Cons:
- Loud noisy fans on Turbo mode
- High temperatures during demanding loads and games
- Lesser battery life compared to G14
Verdict: This is a great slim portable gaming laptop with excellent performance, high quality built, audio, display, screen size and battery life for the entire hardware and software package that is included. If you are in the market for a gaming laptop that delivers better performance, then you will not be disappointed at the price point.
Highly recommend for its performance, price, and quality over other brands in the market.

It’s clunkier than I had anticipated and pretty heavy but this is a gaming laptop after all. For gaming it gets the job done with no complaints. I switched from the Razer Blade Stealth 13 which was a tiny powerful machine but it didn’t have enough oomph unfortunately. Ideally I would prefer a slim, sleek, and powerful machine but this shall do in the meantime.

The laptop is excellent, it was open-box and I thought it might have some scratches but it was literally brand-new. It's fantastic, awesome bright screen, comfortable keyboard, I get about 8hrs off the battery, if I could have any complaints it's how much it shows fingerprints but some disappear as long as your hands aren't constantly oily. Powerful little machine.

The keyboard, trackpad, and overall form factor of this laptop are outstanding. It feels solid in the hand and is very easy to carry around the house or in a backpack. Giving the RTX 3060 model a 1920x1200 display was the right call. The screen bright and vibrant, almost too much so if you're using it in the dark. I can comfortably use 100% resolution scaling in Windows, which hasn't been the case with other 1440p laptops I've used.
1200p is also the ideal resolution for the GPU, doubly so since Asus has thoughtfully included a multiplexer (MUX) switch for 2022. A MUX allows you to choose between NVIDIA Optimus automatic graphic switching or running on the 3060 full time. The former is meant for power savings while the latter allows you to get maximum performance from the RTX GPU. At 1080p high settings with Optimus, ray tracing, and DLSS disabled, the M16 3060 is capable of playing Cyberpunk 2077 at a steady 60 fps in either its performance or turbo mode.
I recommend leaving the laptop in its default performance setting for most gaming tasks as it provides a good balance between frame rate and fan noise. In the highest turbo setting, the laptop seems to get around 15-20% better performance but at a price of fan noise that is significantly louder than what you get out of normal performance mode. In worst-case scenarios, the GPU will top out in the low 80s Celsius while the CPU will hit what appears to be an Asus-implemented cap of 95C.
Battery life of Intel's new "Alder Lake" processors vastly improved. With the M16 in its silent performance profile with the screen at 40% brightness performing office tasks and streaming media, I had 37% charge remaining after 5 hours of use. Previous 11th-generation Intel laptops I've used were lucky to last 4-4.5 hours before being completely drained.
From a quality-of-life standpoint, the webcam is of decent quality for a gaming laptop. Windows Hello facial recognition is a welcome addition. The previous model's fingerprint reader is gone, but since it wasn't all that reliable, I don't wager most folks will miss it. I don't care for the port layout with most external connection points too far forward on the left side. The use of HDMI 2.0b instead of 2.1 in 2022 is unacceptable. At least you can charge the device using either of the USB-C ports. Lastly, while the keyboard feels amazing to type on, the color bundling of the single-zone RGB lighting is horrendous - white looks pink and yellow looks orange.
Overall, the 2022 Asus M16 with RTX 3060 is a premium-feeling, well-performing laptop at a reasonable price. The elevated thermals, loud fans under load, and suboptimal port selection/layout are the main compromises, which to be fair are not unique to this class of gaming laptops. While certainly usable as your only PC, I would say the M16 is better suited as a device for road warriors who want to game in their hotel rooms or if you need to game in different places around your house.
