Unhappy with the shipping and state of device

While I understand that I bought an “open box” device and that it can come with risks, I was still expecting a certain level of care and caution when packing the laptop to be shipped. The laptop did not have its own box, the shipping box was very large in comparison to the device, there were two sheets of bubble wrap thrown into the box that offered little to no protection. The charger was also just thrown in the box without any protection, so during transit the two could have been flying around the box colliding… while I purchased an “Excellent Condition” open box device, it very well could have arrived in horrible condition. When i powered on the laptop it had not been factory reset, there was still an account logged in that I could not remove from the device. I also was unable to factory reset the device through the settings because there was an admin account connected to the laptop. Luckily I know how to reset the device via the BIOS but I cannot say the same for anyone else thinking of purchasing this laptop. Overall unhappy with this experience.

As I unveiled the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (4060), its matte silver finish reminded me of the refined aesthetic of an Apple MacBook. There’s an impeccably smooth surface texture, akin to the flawless finish of a luxury car meticulously crafted to the highest design standards. Upon powering this up, the OLED screen came to life, displaying rich colors and deep blacks with a clarity that was easy on the eyes, ideal for extended gaming sessions without causing eye strain. The premium glow emitted by the backlit keys added to the overall allure, providing a comfortable typing experience even in dimly lit environments. Each key press felt responsive and precise, catering to the demands of a discerning gamer who values both style and performance. The tactile feedback of the keys was just right, not too mushy nor too stiff, allowing for effortless typing and gaming sessions. Coupled with the spacious layout and well-placed function keys, the keyboard of the ROG G14 was a joy to use, enhancing the overall user experience. I fired up Fortnite, and from the moment I entered the game, I was greeted with visuals that exceeded my expectations. The detail, the clarity, every texture, every shadow, every movement was rendered with stunning precision, immersing me in the virtual world which couldn’t have impressed me more. Even disregarding the visuals; the sound quality of the speakers surpassed anything I had heard from any other laptop. The audio was crisp and immersive, with rich bass and clear highs that brought the game to life in ways I never thought possible. From the subtle footsteps of approaching enemies to the thunderous roar of explosions, every sound was delivered with impeccable clarity, adding a new dimension to my gaming experience. With its sleek profile and minimalist design, it was more than just a gaming laptop—it was a statement piece for those who demand both style and performance. Beyond its stunning exterior, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 boasted an impressive array of specifications designed to deliver uncompromising performance. Powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, this laptop is a powerhouse of gaming excellence. Whether tackling the latest AAA titles or engaging in intensive multitasking, the ROG G14 handled it all with ease, thanks to its cutting-edge hardware and efficient cooling system. The laptop's 14-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate provided an immersive gaming experience, allowing for smooth, tear-free gameplay even in fast-paced action sequences. The only downside is the onboard 16GB RAM with no option for upgrade. While the 16GB of RAM was sufficient for most gaming and productivity tasks, it could be a limiting factor for users who require more memory for demanding applications or future-proofing their system. Complementing the powerful processor was the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, which offered stunning graphics performance for an immersive gaming experience. With ray tracing technology and AI-powered features, the RTX 4060 delivered lifelike visuals and realistic lighting effects that brought games to life like never before. Despite this drawback, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 remained a formidable contender in the gaming laptop market, offering a perfect blend of performance, style, and portability.. Whether you're a hardcore gamer, a content creator, or a professional in need of a reliable workhorse, the ROG G14 has you covered. In addition to its impressive performance, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 also excelled in terms of connectivity and portability. With a wide range of ports including USB-C, HDMI, and headphone/microphone combo, it offered seamless connectivity to your favorite accessories. Whether you're connecting to external displays, gaming controllers, or VR headsets, the ROG G14 was easily versatile with every setup I tried. Furthermore, the laptop's compact and lightweight design made it perfect for gaming on the go. Weighing just under 4 pounds and measuring less than an inch thick, it was easy to slip into a backpack or messenger bag and take with you wherever you go. In conclusion, this is a true powerhouse of gaming excellence, delivering unparalleled performance in a sleek and portable package. Two thumbs way up and an easy recommendation!

Unboxing and Setup I was thrilled to unbox this new ASUS G14 Zephyrus Gaming Laptop. The tightly packed shipping box provided good protection. It revealed a mysterious-looking flat-black box with a stylish design on the top. After removing the clear protective covering, I admired the thin CNC-machined aluminum alloy casing, the platinum white matte finish, the Slash Lighting strip across the lid, and The Republic of Gamers logo. The base is heavily vented and has front and rear rubber supports. Lifting the lid feels nice and solid. The keyboard keys are large and comfortable to press. The speaker panels on the left and right sides match the depth of the keyboard, and the touchpad is large and comfortably centered. The black brick power supply has quality power cables, connectors, and Velcro strips for repacking. The Windows 11 Home setup and configuration went smoothly and only took 35 minutes to run. Gaming Since the primary use for this laptop is for gaming, I launched the Armoury Crate application and configured the following: • Set the performance for Turbo mode and Ultimate GPU. • Selected the lid Slash Lighting pattern to respond to sounds. • I selected my desired keyboard colors and animation. My primary games of interest are Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2020 and Space Engineers via the Steam platform. Both of these are graphics intensive. Steam, FS, and SE were fully installed and took 17 hours via my home Wi-Fi. I also installed 3DMark benchmarks and the Valley Benchmark application. Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2020 has amazing graphics. At full resolution of 2880x1800, with High graphics settings and the NVIDIA DLSS AI Frame Generation enabled, there was no stuttering, landscape tearing, or distortion. I was able to maintain a consistent and impressive 85-97 frames per second. The only downside was the increased fan noise, but with headphones, it is not a problem. For Space Engineers, I set the graphics for the maximum resolution and the highest-quality textures. The graphics are smooth and detailed during gameplay without any issues. The background music and sound effects quality make me feel like I'm in a theater. The performance maintained a blazing 95 to 120 FPS with all these settings at the maximum levels. Again, the only downside with this level of graphics quality is the increased fan noise. In Summary I am thrilled with the performance of the ASUS G14 Zephyrus Gaming Laptop. It performed much better than I expected. The battery life with normal usage is a little over 8 hours and about half that when gaming. I recommend a laptop stand to improve the airflow underneath. The price, build quality, room-filling sound, and performance make this laptop a no-brainer. I highly recommend it. I got the G14 (2024) RTX 4060 two weeks ago while it was on sale 1,100 vs 1,600 regular price. I have bought two more G14, one G16 and a ROG ALLY, so I do like Asus products. My experience with this new one has been, unfortunately, awful. The OLED screen just started flickering. on the 12th day after I bought it; and even if I return it I was only getting 1100 back and the item is no longer on discount. Now is too late to return and I need to deal with ASUS customer service. Pictures are attached to illustrate my problem.

    ASUS Zephyrus G14 (2024) Review

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 has been a fantastic addition to my home setup. As someone who uses it for both gaming and everyday tasks, I’ve been really impressed with its performance. The AMD Ryzen 9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU handle games smoothly, and the 14-inch OLED screen is stunning—it’s sharp, vibrant, and makes everything look great, whether I’m gaming or streaming movies. It’s also compact and easy to carry around, which is a big plus. One thing I’ve noticed is that it can get a bit warm when running demanding programs, but it hasn’t been a dealbreaker for me. The battery life is good enough for most of my needs, though it might not last as long as some other laptops out there. Overall, it’s a powerful and sleek laptop that’s been perfect for my casual gaming and daily use.

If you're looking for a laptop that has top notch performance, an awesome display and sound that sets it apart from all others, look no further. When unboxing this laptop it became quite clear that ASUS intended this to be a premium laptop with all of the latest tech while keeping it simple and right to the point. Inside you'll find the laptop, and a power brick with charging cord and a few cards to get started. Setup out of the box was pretty quick and easy. If you have a Microsoft Account, you just sign in and if you want to restore from another PC's backup you'll have everything ready to go on your new one which is what I did. Once setup was complete, there were a number of updates which did take a little bit of time but not bad overall. Then on to installing Steam, Epic Game store and Windows Xbox app game stores. The first thing you'll notice is the display, the color is vivid and blacks are deep and whites are super bright. This display is every bit as good looking as my S23 Ultra's display which if you haven't experienced you'll definitely notice. I really like Asus and the Armoury Crate software as it allows you to fine tune not only the cool slash lights on the rear of the display but also the RGB, system performance/optimization and display settings. Here, you can change the vivid profile to an sRGB profile that is tuned and accurate. Finally, photos that look on the screen just like you took them! That said, I think it's worth mentioning the RGB colors on the keyboard when synced with the display in Armoury Crate with the Asus wallpaper, is a wow, for sure! As for other things that I love, the keys are solid and are great to type on and the trackpad is large and easy to use. I do wish the direction keys were larger but that's my only nit pick about the keyboard that I have. The aluminum body is solid, light and it feels super premium. I can tell that Asus definitely took time to make sure this part of the design was right and it shows. The slash lighting is a tiny disappointment as there's not a ton of customization that I found right off the go, hopefully this is something Asus addresses at some point in the future. The same for the keyboard, I couldn't tell if you can customize colors on individual keys (as you can't with the presets). They still look amazing and there's more customization with the keyboard than there is the slash lighting. Now, for the reasons that I'd really recommend this laptop outside of the OLED display. The first is the sound, and I must say WOW. I've never heard sound from a laptop sound as good as it does from this. The woofers definitely thump and the highs are balanced just right and it's loud. Finally a laptop that has sound that outperforms every tablet out there and every other laptop I've heard sound from in recent years. That's not to say there aren't others that are good but this laptop delivers a solid A+ in this area. The next is performance, which is why you're looking at it. First thing, I wouldn't let the RTX 4060 and 16GB hold you back. I was able to throw every modern title I own at it along with some new ones from the Xbox store and every game can be ran at max settings with very smooth performance. Granted, if you're after higher FPS, then the higher end cards will deliver, but most games I threw at it ranged from 65 FPS on the low end to over 120 FPS on other titles, overall very solid in terms of performance. If you just want it to game and perform, this one delivers that's for sure. My only complaint is the ram is NOT upgradeable and there's not a 2nd NVME M.2 slot to add more storage, though16gb RAM is sufficient for most tasks and games today and likely for a while to come. For the ram, it doesn't affect performance in any way that I can tell for what I do so I'm not sure it's a negative but it would have been nice to see slots to add ram. For the M.2, however, I would say that's a bigger complaint for sure, as most game titles are over 50GB with many now pushing upwards of 100GB so 1TB is no where near enough if you have more than a couple games installed. You do have a USB4 type C slot which is great and more than fast enough to add an external NVME storage drive that's capable of holding all your games but I don't like dragging drives around and it's easier to just have what I need in the laptop so that is one upgrade I'd recommend making right away and then use your old drive in an external NVME M.2 to USB Type C adapter which you'll need to copy to the new drive should you upgrade. Overall, despite that one complaint, I think this laptop is solid and I'd absolutely recommend it. Upgrading the SSD isn't a big deal and larger 4TB drives are now much less expensive than they used to be so it would be a good upgrade to do right off the bat. Outside of that, it performs very well and at least for me does not disappoint.

The Zephyrus G14 is my first ultra-lightweight gaming laptop from ASUS’s ROG line. I’ve owned ASUS TUF gaming laptops in the past, but this one is a completely different class of product. The matte silver exterior chassis is entirely CNC-machined aluminum that feels sleek and high-end with its smooth, rounded corners. I liked that the finish doesn’t appear to pickup fingerprints easily making it less of a chore to keep looking new. The laptop is thin, just shy of ¾” at its thickness with a slight downward taper towards the front. It weighs around 3.25 lbs though the charger adds another pound when travelling. The mirror-finish ‘slash’ on the lid has LEDs that give it a unique design flourish that looks really cool. While the color of the slash can’t be set to anything other than white, you can select from a number of flashing patterns, including sonic matching, and adjust the repeat interval and brightness. The slash animation can be set to show when you receive a toast notification with optional sound for the selected pattern. When you open the laptop, the ten-keyless chiclet keyboard has striking RGB-backlit white keys, four customizable hot keys at the top-left, however, the directional arrow keys are half-sized. The keys are responsive but require a firm press for actuation. There’s a generously sized multi-touch mouse trackpad that maximizes its area by spanning the entire distance between the keyboard and front edge. A majority of the trackpad can be clicked (left-click function) though it is more difficult towards the top of the pad; right-clicking is executed on the right-half along the bottom of the trackpad or with a two finger click. For I/O there’s a full-size HDMI 2.1 out, USB-C 3.2 Gen2 supporting DisplayPort (DP) on the right-hand side, a USB-C 4 port that supports DP and power delivery charging at 100W (though is not Thunderbolt), and two USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, one on either side. The charging port on the left is proprietary for the 180Watt charger though the rectangular connector is reversible, so it doesn’t matter which side faces up. There’s also a combo mic/headphone jack. No ports are present along the back, as this is where the heat exhausts from. In terms of connectivity, it uses a tri-band WiFi 6E card (2.4GHz and 2x5GHz) for reliable and fast streaming, gaming, and downloads and also supports Bluetooth 5.3 allowing for lag-free pairing with audio devices like speakers, earbuds, and headphones for perfectly synced video playback. Inside it runs on the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU with integrated Radeon 780M Graphics, 16 GB LPDDR5x 6400Mhz RAM, 1 TB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. That places this machine’s capabilities in the high-end range without breaking the bank. Since the RAM is soldered to the motherboard, it is not upgradable. These specs still provide a very clean gaming experience when set to high quality graphics on AC power. However, the fans can be a bit noisy, and the sides towards the back definitely get pretty hot. While it is not really positioned for content creators, you can get away with running video editing software as well with few issues. The only upgrade path would be to swap out the SSD with a larger capacity, requiring you to remove the bottom panel, secured with nine 5-point screws. However, there is a microSD card slot available for you to add additional storage space. If you want 32 GB of RAM, you’ll need to go with the pricier RTX4070 version. One interesting thing about the processor is that it has dedicated Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for handling AI tasks, up to 39 TOPs (tera operations per second). This helps the machine respond to AI requests faster with today’s growing demand and more frequent app integration with AI technology. The highest screen resolution of the 14” OLED panel is 2880x1800 (3k at 16:10 aspect ratio) with a max refresh rate of 120 Hz. It reproduces 10-bit color, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 colorspace with a max HDR brightness of 500 nits. There are other color gamut choices in Armoury Crate, for example, sRGB for more accurate color reproduction at the expense of saturation and contrast. Either way, the image quality of the screen is stunning with dark inky blacks and brilliantly lush colors. I did find that reflections can be a minor issue when viewing the screen with bright lights behind you. The screen opens to a max angle of around 120° and it has thin bezels at the sides though a thicker one along the top to accommodate a 3-mic array and integrated 1080P webcam with IR facial detection for logging in with Windows Hello. I was impressed that the face-unlock recognized me with and without my glasses on and is pretty fast too, eliminating the need to enter a password or PIN. The microphones also can utilize AI noise-cancelling via the Realtek Audio Console to emulate various mic pickup patterns. While gaming with medium quality graphics, the battery lasted around 2 hrs, which is decent for a gaming laptop. When plugged in, the laptop performs flawlessly for many games at high or ultra video settings. I experienced smooth, lag-free, and tear-free performance in fast-paced open world RPGs like Warframe and quick responsiveness in FPS games like CS:2. Framerates were consistently above 100 fps, occasionally pushing 135 without any smearing, ghosting, or dropped frames. With non-gaming use, I was able to get nearly 5 hours from a fully charged battery at maximum brightness. This makes it a great companion for day trips, allowing me to get some work done or consume media on-the-go without worrying about having to plug in. The battery charges quickly and 30 minutes is all that’s needed for a 50% top up. I also really enjoy putting it in silent mode because you don’t hear the fans at all and that allows the stereo speakers to shine when listening to music or watching video. Unlike most laptops, the speakers are located along the sides of the keyboard and produce clear, vibrant, and powerful sound that have a surprising amount of bass response (as low as 100Hz). They sport twin tweeters as well as woofers on the bottom to reflect even more sound off the table back towards you, effectively providing additional volume that sounds full and open. Overall, the Zephyrus G14 is one of the coolest gaming laptops that I’ve had to date and is great for gaming as well as casual/work use, has a vivid, clear and bright 3K OLED display, and produces awesome sound for this form factor. It not only looks and feels high-end but delivers excellent performance to match.

This 14-inch Asus ROG Gaming Laptop has a bright screen and plenty of power for gaming and a compact but not too tiny form factor. At 12.26 x 8.66 x 0.63 inches and 3.31 pounds, it is small enough to take along but big enough to immerse yourself in gaming or even work. What’s in the box: • Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop • Power supply and cable The major specs: • Bright screen 2560 x 1440 QHD 120 Hz refresh rate • AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS 8 cores / 16 logical processors • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (Laptop) GPU • 16 GB LPDDR5 SDRAM • 1 TB NVMe drive • NVIDIA AD106 HD Audio controller • WiFi 6 One thing that I really like is that there are 4 USB ports. Yep four! Two USB type A and two USB type C. So many laptops now are really short on USB ports. But this one has four. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a microSD card reader. Setup was quick and easy. As soon as it was up and running, I ran PassMark and 3Dmark before making any tweaks. Benchmark scores: PassMark Rating 9659.0 (91st percentile) (The CPU and disk scores were really good. Memory score was not.) 3Dmark Time Spy Score 9046 Then I loaded up Steam and played a little Assassin’s Creed Mirage (Demo version) and Dakar Desert Rally. Then I loaded up Fallout… The graphics were smooth and bright. The game play was responsive. I lost track of time…. Cons: • The keyboard key spacing feels a bit strange. I measured it against the two keyboards I use (for hours everyday..) and the Zephyrus keys are just a tiny bit larger. From the left edge of the cap locks key to the right edge of the enter key is 2 millimeters larger. That doesn’t sound like much but it is taking me a bit to get used to. The action on the keys is fine. It is quick and responsive. • The display is not 4K. This may not be a deal killer, but it’s worth mentioning. • Wish I’d paid a bit more and got the 32GB RAM. In summary, while this is a small form factor for a gaming laptop (and it only has 16 GB RAM) it is a little powerhouse. Take it with you on the road or just keep it handy at home. You can work on it by day and play games at night (or sneak a game in during the day too.)

The Asus Zephyrus G14 (2024) is a powerhouse in a small and beautiful package. The AMD Ryzen 8945HS is a powerful CPU to execute any program you throw at it, and also has an on-board GPU for those less intensive games and programs that don't require the dedicated RTX 4060. Speaking of the RTX 4060, it's extremely capable of playing all the triple-A games. One thing to note is the gorgeous OLED screen has a native resolution of 2880x1800, which even the desktop version of the RTX 4060 can't play most games at High/Ultra settings smoothly at that resolution. This became apparent while trying to get a steady 60 FPS out of The Crew Motorfest at the highest settings. Even after lowering down to medium settings I was still getting hiccups. The solution I settled on was lowering the resolution to 1920x1200. This allowed me to run the game at Ultra settings and have zero dips below 60 FPS, and the game still looked amazing on the 120Hz refresh rate OLED screen. The screen itself is amazing. Most gaming monitors don't look this good. Enabling HDR and running the Windows HDR Calibration software really improves the experience even more. And since it's OLED, there's no backlight, blacks are jet black. It also comes with 16GB of RAM, which seems to be an industry standard when it comes to gaming PC's. I removed the back of the laptop to see what exactly you have easy access too, and it appears you only have access to the SSD, and the WiFi module. I'm assuming the RAM is on the other side of the motherboard, and looks like a job if you wanted to upgrade or have to swap out a bad module. The size of this laptop compared to the performance boggles my mind. I've owned several gaming and regular laptops over the years, and this smallest, most powerful laptop I've personally used. I could only imagine what the RTX 4070 version would be like. I would also like to note that it doesn't come with a bunch of pre-installed bloatware. It does come with Asus's Armoury Crate software, which is required to control the lighting on the keyboard, wallpaper, and the line that runs across the back of the screen. It also comes with trials of Office and a few other Microsoft programs, which can easily be deleted if you don't need them. You do get a 1TB SSD, and it's very fast, so running out of room shouldn't be a thing out of the box. Overall I really enjoy this laptop, and highly recommend it. Likes: 1.) Performance and style 2.) Amazing OLED screen 3.) Extremely portable Dislikes: 1.) Native resolution can hinder some games with this GPU at high/Ultra settings

Amazing performance, build quality, specs, display, etc all in a compact form factor. AMD overclocks the CPUs out of the factory so I did have to disable that in favor of a more power-friendly CPU setting that allows for overclocking but only in extreme circumstances. This made the PC run cooler without sacrificing performance. The sale price made it absolutely a steal. Only drawback is the 16gb of LPDDR5X RAM is soldered in and not modular, but LPDDR5X RAM is wicked fast. The PC does well with everything I have thrown at it.

Excellent machine, lightweight with great performance for casual gaming. The display is vibrant and sharp and it has great speakers. Its compact size makes it highly portable. On the downside, there is continuous fan noise, even in silent mode, and the pre-installed bloatware is unnecessary. The battery life could be improved. A great workaround for the fan noise and battery consumption issues under light loads is to use G-Helper. Overall, this laptop offers a strong combination of performance and portability.

In a nutshell: It's a Macbook Pro that can play games. Build quality - Excellent. Most of the laptop is aluminum, the keyboard is nicely spaced out and has good play on the keys. It's not the same as a mechanical board (which can be had on some Alienware laptops) but still very good. It feels like quality at all points where you will interact with the laptop. I have zero complaints with build quality. It's exceptional for the price. Screen: Near perfection. An OLED HDR panel that performs extremely well. This is the highlight of the laptop - the screen is superb. Perfect blacks (as you would expect) and contrast, and very bright. The HDR works well, also. Gaming: Better than expected. I can run CP2077, The Witcher 3, and WoW all at 60-100FPS on high settings. I did turn off ray tracing in Cyberpunk to keep the frames high, but overall the 4060 performs well. For anyone other than a true hardcore gamer, this will be more than enough. It plays all modern games with very few compromises. Heat- This is the biggest con. It's a small laptop with a lot of power. As a result, when gaming, it gets very hot. Very. Hot. NOW - to be fair to ASUS - they concentrated the heat to the top of the laptop's base. What that means is that the keyboard stays at a reasonable temperature. It's very usable. However, it will blast your legs with very hot air. I recommend a cooling tray or some kind of buffer to keep your knees from melting. Overall - It's a great, portable, gaming laptop at a reasonable price point. I've been a desktop gamer for my whole life but some space constraints required me to minimize and I feel that this laptop is a good choice. I also appreciate that they didn't "gamerfy" the design with all sorts of lights and "cool" graphics. Instead there's a customizable lightbar on the back, which is perfect. I can take this to work or use while travelling very easily. The last pro I'll mention is portability. It's the most portable gaming laptop I've handled. It is about 3lbs, will fit in most bags, and can be tossed around as easily as a macbook.

I've gone through countless laptops trying to find the perfect balance of portability and every day usage combined with some casual gaming. I am very particular what I want in a laptop and how I want it to behave, so this is super subjective, but this is definitely the laptop that checks all the boxes for me. It's build quality is excellent, the keyboard feels amazing, battery life is great for a small gaming machine like this (The ability to automatically switch to 60hz when on battery really helps). The screen is just drop dead gorgeous to look at and although the CPU is just rebranded version of last years model, the whole laptop feels much snappier and responsive than last years model. I really like the app GHelper instead of Armoury Crate, as it gives you some more options that are missing from Asus's official app, such as FN Lock. The port selections is also great and has everything I would ever need, I realize they had to lower the TDP for this machine compared to last year’s model, in order to make the slimmer profile work. I had the 2023 model with the 4060 and 32GB Ram and ran it against this one. Honestly, the new one ran significantly cooler, quieter and the difference in performance was negligible (maybe 5-10fps lower than the 2023 model) Overall, I applaud ASUS for this, as to me they have reached peek gaming laptop design at an affordable price. Will recommend this laptop to anybody who is in the market for a small gaming machine.

Serious Punch in a Small Package

--- SETUP --- This laptop was quick and easy to set up. In the box, you get the laptop and the charger. Once you turn on the laptop, connect it to your WiFi and let it run through its updates. If this is replacing one of your previous Windows PCs, you can transfer settings from that PC to this new one. Additionally, you have the option to set it up as a new PC. This being a gaming laptop, it took me about 1 hour for all the updates, plus another hour to download the games I wanted to play. --- FEATURES --- AMD Ryzen 9 8000 series processor (for multitasking and editing software), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (Ray Tracing Capable), 16 gigabytes of RAM (for demanding games), 3 lbs, Windows 11, 3K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 8 cores, DLSS 3.5 support, facial recognition login, and 1 TB SSD. --- EXPECTATIONS and PERFORMANCE --- I take my gaming seriously and I am platform agnostic, which means I game wherever there is a fun game to be had. That being said, this gaming laptop packs some serious punch in a small package. I downloaded single-player games that were released within the past 2 years to try this laptop first. The games I tried first were Starfield, Hogwarts, Resident Evil 4 Remake, A Plague: Tale Requiem, Diablo IV, and Cyberpunk DLC. These games are from either Steam or Xbox GamePass downloads and all are resource intensive at higher settings. The first thing I noticed is that the screen isn’t HDR capable. To me, that is an acceptable trade-off for gaming on the go with Ray Tracing. All the games that I tested with this laptop worked great with few tweeks. For the most part, most games would auto-detect the best settings for my laptop. In Hogwarts, I just changed a few DLSS options so that it ran at a smooth 120 frames. Perhaps the game that I became most engrossed in was Resident Evil 4. In the options menu, RE4 remake will show you your PC system specs. From there, I turned and played with the settings until I got what I wanted. I was able to play RE4 Remake with cutscenes running at the highest resolution, my gaming at 3K, with ray tracing, and a variable 120Hz. Another game that was great to play was Starfield. On PC, Starfield now supports NVIDIA’s DLSS technology. This makes it so that you can have settings that would normally be resource intensive not be as heavy through the use of AI. Starfield looks like a completely different game when playing at 120FPS. To top it off, the laptop has 6 speakers that sound very good for a gaming laptop if you don’t have gaming headphones with you. Any gaming setup requires a lighted keyboard. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus comes with a backlit keyboard that changes colors and a backlit panel that makes your gaming sessions look stylish. The volume control buttons being separate from the rest of the keyboard is very handy when you need to do a quick volume adjustment. Speaking of volume, the fans to cool the laptop are noticeable during quiet parts of gaming, but you otherwise won’t notice them. --- APPROVAL --- With the portability due to size, a nice 3K screen, and a powerful NVIDIA graphics card that supports 3K Ray Tracing, this gaming laptop is a beast to take with you on the go. I recommend this to anyone that is a traveling gamer, or likes to put in some game time during work hours.
