I have this monitor connected with an HDMI to a 1080p Chromebook laptop as an external monitor. This monitor easily turns a clear screen with what someone with 20/20 would see into a slightly blurry screen with 20/40 or 20/50 vision. Laptop screen is 13 in Asus monitor is 24 in. Didn't think it would be this bad. I haven't gamed with it but I don't think I need to. Think it's getting returned. Tried adjusting everything to know Improvement. Great stand though!

It’s a great monitor however didn’t last long. I purchased on 11/27/20 and today on 11/03/21 the pixels are all messed up. I use it maybe if I’m lucky 8 hours a week, so it don’t see how the screen could go out like that. I ignored the bad reviews bc there weren’t many so I took my chances. If you’re looking for a monitor to last this ain’t it.

Beautiful versatile monitor!

Let me start by saying that ASUS really put together a superb package with this monitor. From the versatile stand to the easy to adjust pre-set display settings, this monitor truly does shine. I will also add that I am a pretty avid PC gamer and have never owned a 144Hz monitor as I never bought in to the hype. Needless to say, I was wrong and am now a true believer.
Prior to receiving this monitor, I was using a nice 32” 1440p display at 60Hz. I thought because of the size and resolution it was wonderful. I was very nervous about going from a nice large 32” display to a smaller display with an FHD resolution instead of QHD. Since receiving this monitor, my 32” screen sits on the floor beside my desk ready to be sold. Although smaller both in size as well as resolution the Asus TUF monitor is hands down the best monitor I have ever owned, here’s why:
Pros:
- The stand is very well built and very versatile. It’s easy to rotate without moving the base, simple to raise and lower the screen without moving the base, and gives the option to rotate vertical simply by rotating the monitor. I have had no issues with the stand and appreciate how versatile it is in the event I need to modify my monitor setup on the fly.
- Ease of setup. NO tools needed. Simply slide the monitor in to the stand and tighten a screw underneath with your fingers. They used a screw that makes it tool less and easy to do with just your fingers.
- The panel is beautiful, the color and the vibrance the screen is capable of is perfect. I don’t see any flaws to the panel that stand out to me although I’m not a pixel critic. The screen looks absolutely wonderful to me.
- I really like the ability to modify the screen settings with the preset “GameVisual” settings. There are 7 GameVisual modes to choose from. I keep coming back to “Scenery” as I feel it gives the best balance for me personally. But if I want to change it, it’s a few button presses away.
- 144Hz is a game changer. I have an NVIDIA 970GTX video card and have never experienced 144Hz until this monitor. I used PUBG as my test game and I am blown away at how smooth the game-play is at 144Hz. I will never go back to 60Hz.
There are not too many Cons I can think of in regard to this monitor, at least no cons big enough to impact the 5-star rating. But I want to share some of my negative experiences that aren’t so much the cause of the monitor itself:
Cons:
- Lack of a DVI port? In the current days of technology, I’m not completely surprised to see the lack of a DVI port on a monitor but the fact that it has a VGA but no DVI? I feel like they skipped a generation lol. It has DisplayPort as well as HDMI and VGA so its not a huge concern of mine but if I wanted to hook a third one up, I would need to get some sort of converter or a different video card. Current video cards probably don’t include DVI anymore anyway.
- For some reason when I have two of these hooked up and configure “Surround” in the Nvidia control panel, it will not allow me to go in to “Surround” mode @ 144Hz. This most likely a result of my video card and not the monitor. I would like to get to the bottom of it and research is ongoing. Again, not the fault of the monitor but something I felt I would mention.
I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a versatile 144Hz gaming monitor. It performs great with an older Nvidia 970GTX and I could only imagine how well it would perform with newer video cards. Great job ASUS!

I am altogether very happy with this monitor! Asus has once again proved itself in providing quality monitors at a price that makes since in the budget of a frugality-minded gamer. But this monitor goes beyond gaming alone, with its gorgeous IPS panel, it makes since in the setting of a multi-monitor content creation rig which is what I will be employing it for down the road! Here are some of the things I like and dislike listed out:
Like:
-144hz refresh panel
-IPS Panel; great viewing angles and great color
-Nearly non-existent side and top bezels. This has a great footprint and is perfect if your desk or table requires you to minimize your X-axis footprint on the monitor itself
-Excellent stand. It can pivot, height adjust, tilt the monitor forward and back generously, and the monitor can rotate fully vertical as your needs demand.
-Freesync compatible. This is great for AMD graphics card users. I am sure with the quality and price of this monitor, in no time it will become G-Sync certified by Nvidia
-Inclusion of built-in speakers. All the speakers are weak, they are present. So for a budget minded gamer who just needs to get started, this means they can eliminate the extra-expense of a head set or external speakers until they are ready!
-Power delivery. This monitor requires no power brick but only a single cable that plugs directly into the back of the monitor! This is nice and makes this rank as a highly portable monitor for LAN parties or on the move needs.
Areas for improvement:
-Menu navigation and buttons. These are not labeled and are difficult to navigate with. Unlike the toggle joystick menu button that is common on so many other Asus monitors, these buttons are unwieldily and difficult to get the hang of what button does what.
-Included instructions. They are essentially worthless for anything beyond just setting up the monitor.
-Accessories. They included a 3ft display port cable, but at this price the inclusion of a HDMI cable would have been an expected item given the price.
-I/O. 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port, 1 DVI, Headphone jack. That is it and fairly sparse all things considered. Additionally, the curvature of the back of the monitor makes plugging very thick or braided cables into the I/O ports difficult.

I upgraded from my LED Backlit LCD Monitor to this ASUS IPS monitor and the difference is night and day. The color, brightness, and saturation all outperform my old monitor, delivering better color depth, true to color reproduction, and clearer, crisper visuals. Since the monitor came with a DisplayPort cable, I finally was able to take full advantage of the capabilities my NVIDIA GTX 1070 G1 video card. The DisplayPort on the monitor is also required to be used in order to enable G-SYNC with NVIDIA graphics cards (or FreeSync with AMD cards). Note that currently, the NVIDIA control panel will give you a “non-validated” compatibility warning when you go to enable G-SYNC with this monitor.
The wide 178° viewing angle enables the screen to look sharp with accurate colors from about every angle and position and when paired with the super thin bezels at the top and sides makes this monitor a good candidate for having multiple displays. You can toggle built-in alignment screens, accessible from the menus, to help you level and line up several monitors to make a nearly seamless large display. The monitor can tilt, swivel, and rotate 90° from horizontal in either direction on its included stand or you can remove the stand and attach it to a VESA mount, giving you a wide range of positioning and arrangement options. I particularly like portrait orientation when working on large spreadsheets or editing portrait framed photos.
There are seven pre-set color profiles you can choose from, my favorite ones are ‘Scenery’ and ‘RTS/RPG mode,’ or you can tweak individual parameters to suit your preference. The change in visuals compared to my 60Hz LCD is stark. I guess I had kind of gotten used to the graphics on my system during gaming being choppy at times and stuttering every so often. I also didn’t realize how blurry most fast motion looked, especially with fast-paced action games like FPS and racing titles, until I could see the difference the higher refresh rate made with the low motion blur (ELMB) enabled; just note that you can’t have both Adaptive-sync and ELMB enabled at the same time. In general, I thought having ELMB set to “standard” was sufficient since the improvement to “turbo” wasn’t as noticeable and tended to darken the screen too much. In general, I didn’t have any issues with tearing or ghosting.
The clearest difference I saw was in the color depth as this Asus monitor display has 8-bit color support via 6-bit + frame rate control to achieve near the full range of color in the sRGB color space for more vivid colors with clearer contrast and deeper saturation. For me, this also makes this monitor great for creative work especially when color correcting photos and editing video.
I wasn’t in love with the 6 menu control buttons adjacent to the power button though, because they’re unmarked and change functions depending on where in menu tree you are; so navigating through the options was a bit clunky, and it took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Unfortunately, this is the only way to adjust the max volume for the monitor which is buried several layers deep within the menus. Not that the built-in stereo speakers are that great, but I don’t have other external speakers for my gaming PC, so I’d previously only been using headphones for audio. This monitor gives me the option to output audio through its 2 Watt speakers and since the DisplayPort cable carries the audio signal, I didn’t even have to hook up an extra AUX cable (HDMI also transmits both audio and video). It’s nice too that there’s a VGA port for folks with older systems, but you really don’t get to take full advantage of all the monitor has to offer using VGA input, so there’s no point in spending the money for this monitor if you’re going to use VGA, in my opinion.
I also appreciated the ability to turn off the power LED, even though it’s quite small to begin with. One neat feature is the blue light filter, though it takes a little getting used to. There are 4 levels of blue light removal to help protect your eyes from its potentially harmful effects. While it will change the color representation on the screen, giving everything a yellowish tinge, your eyes eventually adjust and the color offset is less noticeable. At the highest filter (level 4), though, I did feel that the brightness dropped off too much to be usable for gaming, though it did significantly reduce IPS glow in pitch black conditions. There are a couple interesting gaming specific features like being able to add a static crosshair to the center of the screen, live FPS counter, a countdown timer to help you track your gameplay time, and shadowboost.
Overall, I think that this is a fantastic entry-level gaming IPS monitor that will be game changing for anyone who hasn’t experienced refresh rates over 100Hz. It also performs well as a general use monitor for creatives that work with visual media and is suitable for watching Full HD movies (though not 4K) for a good all-around value.

Competitive Gaming Monitor

I have been looking for a 144 Hz IPS monitor with adaptive sync to use for gaming and settled on the ASUS VG249Q. My first impression upon opening the box was the monitor was gorgeous and it was apparent that the design team at ASUS put a lot of thought into the aesthetics.
Pros:
* The stand is very sturdy and has no problem holding the monitor in the landscape or portrait position. This is a nice feature as many monitors cannot be easily rotated. It is ergonomic with the height, swivel, and tilt being adjustable.
* IPS panel is beautiful. This monitor truly offers outstanding and accurate colors at all viewing angles. I compared this to my current monitor and the difference is definitely noticeable.
* Adaptive-Sync technology. This was extremely important to me as I have a NVIDIA graphics card and want to be able to take full advantage of the 144 Hz monitor without screen tearing, stuttering, or input lag. This technology allows for comparable performance to G-Sync but without the huge price tag associated with it. Additionally if you have an AMD graphics card it has Free-Sync. After playing multiple games of Apex, COD, and The Division 2 I can say I am impressed with how it performed. The NVIDIA control panel does warn you that it isn't compatible which is likely because their list hasn't been updated yet. I did not have any issues force applying it. I achieved high frame rates and no noticeable lag, stuttering, or tearing. Once you experience a 144 Hz monitor you can never go back!
* Extreme Low Motion Blur technology. I tried playing several games with and without this option enabled. It is a cool feature and definitely sharpens the image.
*Game Plus: This is a cool feature that allows you to place a crosshair, a timer, an on screen FPS counter, and align your display. These functions are all accessible from the monitor. While these are not a must have for me, I think they are a nice addition.
Indeterminate:
* Shadow boost. While this option is supposed to brighten areas of the game without overexposing them, I found that it was hit or miss especially in The Division 2. Certain dark areas would brighten well while others remained dark.
Overall, I am very happy with this monitor. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 1080p gaming monitor. It has a lot of great features at a competitive price.

I love this monitor, or at least the the ones manufactured in Mar 2020. I recently purchased a 2nd monitor manufactured in Jul 2021, and could tell immediately that the newer version is slightly off.
What I have tried will be listed below: Long story short, nothing worked. However if you read the last entry, I found the solution!!!
-GPU out was HDMI and Display Port. I thought maybe HDMI 8K cable was better than my 4K Display Port cable. So I swapped them, between the (2) monitor's with still the same color results.
-I went into system -> advanced display settings -> Noticed that main monitor was 144hz, while the duplicate was 120hz. I couldn't force my duplicated monitor to 144hz, so I changed my main monitor to 120hz. Still the same color results.
-I went into the monitor settings and tried to change the color by user, with no luck.
-I called ASUS customer support. Let's just say their products are great, but speaking with tech support is trash.
Solution. I purchased another monitor and looked on the back of the 3rd "test" monitor and noticed that it was manufactured in Jul 2021, just like the 2nd "duplicate" monitor. So I unplugged my main monitor "Mar 2020" and noticed immediately that the 2nd and 3rd monitor's colors were identical. So essentially, if you know that your going to extend display's, purchase both of the same monitor's at the same time, more than likely you'll purchase the same manufacturing month and year, and not having my situation.
I added pictures, of the color differences. It looks blurry when I attached them to this review, hopefully it shows up.

Worked fantastically for a few months. Using the DisplayPort connection I was running above the 60hz standard for frames per second. The issue is that as of last week there have been discolored lines appearing at the top of the screen that end up being very distracting. I tried using HDMI, a spare DisplayPort cable, and tried using it connected to my laptop rather than desktop, but the lines persisted. Contacted ASUS support, determined it a product fault, and now it's RMA'd and on the way to their repair center.

This monitor out of the box had a dull LED light. I had to turn up the brightness to 100 and the contrast to 85 to get a decent picture. Finally I initiated an RMA to correct/fix the LED backlight issue. ASUS sent me a FedEx label and I carefully packed the contents in a large box with plenty of foam. I literally used the monitor the morning of the day I shipped out the product. Two weeks went by before I heard from ASUS that the item had been damaged during shipping and they wanted $140 to restore the broken screen. When a new monitor costs around ~$200, this was not economical whatsoever. I told ASUS to scrap the product. This monitor was less than a year old and a total loss. I just bought another ASUS monitor prior to sending this in but can NEVER purchase another ASUS product again. I've bought motherboards, video cards, routers and WiFi cards with the ASUS brand but will spend my entire life never buying from them ever.

So, this is my first "gaming" monitor, and I'm pretty impressed. Previously, the only thing I'd bother looking for in a monitor is a high refresh rate. ASUS takes this a step (several steps?) farther, and threw in a slew of interesting features, like a built in multi-level bluelight filter, FPS display, on-screen reticle (which the monitor calls "practice mode") and various display settings optimized for the kind of game you're playing (MOBA mode washes out most colors except for things like health bars, to improve visiblity, for example).
I wish I could take pictures of the bluelight filter in action, but my phone keeps auto-correcting the color on me. It's one of the most impressive features of the monitor, in my opinion.
If you're looking for a fast, freesync monitor that's seriously designed with gamers in mind, this is an excellent choice.

Asus 144 MHz is really nice. I went into custom settings and over clocked my video card and the result was great. Colors were richer, no lag time, 4k video was seamless, darks were dark, bright colors popped out. I played my go to game which was rainbow 6 for testing and rendering was spot on. No hesitation and no flicker.
Setup was a snap. Came with HDMI D cord and power cord and stand. I was up and running in minutes.
Buttons were easy to use. Swivel was good. Base was balanced and did not tip when swiveling. Turning from landscape to portrait mode was seamless as well. This helped with reading documents.
I would recommend this product for any PC user not just a gamer.
