Better than a Chromebook!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
If you are thinking of getting a Chromebook, I would recommend this Vivobook instead. Windows 11 S is the equivalent operating system to Chrome OS. S mode restricts app downloads to only using the Microsoft Store to help with device security. This means if there isn’t one in the Microsoft Store then you cannot install it even though traditionally Microsoft is built on third-party app installation. By turning off S mode, full Windows functionality can be achieved, but it then cannot be turned back on. It is a one-way street. For a student/child if you are concerned about app installations, it is a good feature of the OS.
Just a personal rant, I am not the biggest fan of Windows 11 user experience versus Windows 10 user experience. It feels like Win11 is trying to be like MacOS and just made the simplest tasks of accessing common display features, making new folders, opening folders in a new window, accessing all Apps, etc way more complicated and harder to access.
My review has consisted of leaving the Vivobook in S mode. This is my first experience with S mode as you can only get as a pre-install and so I wanted to see what real world experience is like. Still Win11, so that much I am familiar with. The first and biggest drawback is I am used to using Chrome browser. Edge is built on it, but there is a difference in workflow. You can import your Google account and all of your quick links and saved log-in info is all there. You can add profiles if you use multiple Chrome profiles too. What isn’t available though is Google Drive for Desktop.
The 128GB storage is pretty small for 2023. 256GB for a Windows machine is standard. I get the competition with Chromebooks which are normally 64GB standard, so in that respect it is double. But Win11 OS takes up more storage than Chrome OS, so 128GB is necessary. Being restricted to Microsoft Store for apps translates that you most likely won’t be installing a lot of apps anyway, so 128GB storage is probably fine for the basic tasks this is meant to be used for.
I was a little reluctant with it only having a Dual-Core processor, but for word docs, web surfing, and media consumption it does it with ease, and RAM is upgradeable!
8GB on board storage with an open slot, says max system memory (RAM) is 12GB, I had a 4GB DDR stick laying around and tossed it in, definitely helped in the multi-tasking department with multiple browser tabs open and various apps . Dual-Core will have its limitations with multitasking with resource intensive apps, but if that is want you will be doing, this value laptop is not what you need. Ffor the price it’s a pretty solid machine to tackle the basics and have some horsepower to spare.
Build quality is cheap but sturdy. Plastic everywhere…the bottom plate is very sturdy and feels like it can take a beating in a backpack. The silver finish everywhere won’t last long…like one trip in backpack. I can now see swirls in the top case from when I was adding the RAM. The table was clean and smooth, but moving it around on the table, still put swirls and minor scratches in the paint. Putting a dBrand or similar skin on it, would definitely help cover the scratches it will get. Or just sticker it up! The casing was easy to open once I figured out the best pry point. Typically it is near the underside of the palm rest corners, but the way this bottom plate fits inside the top plate I was not able to get a pry tool in there. On this machine the best location is near the screen hinge. Once there it was quite easy.
I tried to show this in the pictures. This chassis according to ASUS webpage for the 1400EX is capable of dual storage options, but this model did not come with any brackets to install and HDD. I’m sure one could be found, but also the required ribbon to attach to the motherboard. I studied it for a bit to see how the ribbon cable would be run, best bet looked like under the battery. But with 2TB NVME drives only being easy to find for under $200 and smaller sizes even cheaper, I wouldn’t full with trying to go fit it with another HDD which will draw more power. Again if you try to update the storage you will lose the Win11 S mode option…unless you can clone the drive; could be an option. Didn’t try it as I wasn’t trying to get too crazy with this review.
The keyboard has nice button press, not too clickly. Silent enough to be used in a classroom or library, etc and not be so distracting although a little slick. There isn’t any back lighting so, definitely have a dim light on to help with the keys. Trackpad is decent. Not much travel on the button press, but it works.
Display…this is where the “value” portion kicks in the most. There is a sweet spot for viewing as it is very washed out with minor off-axis viewing which greatly decreases visibility. It is reminiscent of the first laptop displays. Resolution is 1366 x 768, which is technically still HD, but it doesn’t leave a lot of room for multiple open windows. The processor itself is capable of 4K @60hz resolution, so making the panel either 1600x900 or 1920x1080 would not have been an issue on performance. Connecting to my 4K tv showed no issues when in mirror mode and extended display mode. The GPU was about 10% usage during this setup, which was just a few points above not running an external 4K monitor. If you are going to use this exclusively at workstation/desk then I would suggest a 20in or larger monitor with at least Full HD resolution as it will greatly increase the usefulness of the screen real estate.
Audio is another area of “value” as the speakers are very hollow sounding, so if you just need the spoken word it will be fine, but for movie consumption it will sound like your listening via tin can and string. Of course using bluetooth or wired headphones quickly can upgrade the sound experience.
Battery life…you can expect about 4-5 hours tops of basic computing out of the battery. Given the screen resolution, its not going to be a battery hog, but the battery is also quite small. The included 45w charger will take over 2 hours to fully charge. I would have liked to see a USB-C charger here even at this price point. Typically that means an extra USB-C port is needed, with 3 USB-A ports one could be converted.
With the MY ASUS app you can choose to lock the FN keys to use the shortcuts. There are also battery settings that allow you to preserve battery health by only charging to 80% or 60% if this will be left plugged in a lot. If will be exclusively plugged in as a desktop PC replacement, then definitely go the 60% charge route.
All the modern ports you would expect to find are present. USB-C, HDMI, and USB 3.0 are on the left and 2 more USB of the 2.0 variety along with a headphone/mic jack are on the right side. Since there is only 1 USB-C it is input
Closing this review out, I would highly recommend it over a Chromebook; more options with the ability to change to standard Windows mode, which in the end I did. It is a very easy process and I didn’t notice any performance degradation. With any laptop the more apps you install, the more at initial startup can hog your system resources and slow down the startup process. However, on every computer I have had, I disable the process I don’t want turning on automatically at startup. It is easy to do in the Task Manager app and selecting the Startup tab. S mode just handles this by default.
As a basic laptop this is definitely is way better than the competition which is mainly a Chromebook. There are some high-end Chromebooks, but they will always be limited to the Play Store and unless your a Chromebook diehard fan, I don’t recommend. The processor being a CORE series is better than the Pentium or Celeron versions typically found on budget Windows laptops and Chromebooks.
The reality though is that you can usually find Windows laptops with better specs on sale for about the same price or just $100 more over MSRP of the Vivobook 14, so unless you are super strapped for cash or find this on-sale, it may just be better to jump up to the next price bracket as you will typically get a better processor, 256GB storage, and a better screen. What you won’t typically get is Windows 11 S, so if you are after that feature alone, then ASUS Vivobook 14 is currently your best option.
I can definitely recommend it, but I would highly consider your needs and possible future needs.

I recently purchased the ASUS Vivobook 14" Laptop with an Intel Core i3-1115G4 processor and 8GB of RAM from Best Buy, and it has proven to be a reliable device for my daily needs. The 14-inch Full HD display is crisp and clear, making it comfortable for extended use. The laptop's lightweight design enhances its portability, which is great for on-the-go use.
Performance-wise, the Intel Core i3-1115G4 processor handles everyday tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and streaming smoothly. The 8GB of DDR4 RAM ensures that multitasking is efficient, and the 128GB SSD provides quick boot times and fast access to files. However, the storage capacity might be limiting for users with extensive file storage needs.
The battery life is commendable, lasting through a full workday without needing a recharge. One downside is the lack of a backlit keyboard, which can be inconvenient in low-light environments. Additionally, the webcam quality is average, suitable for basic video calls but not ideal for high-quality video conferencing.
Overall, the ASUS Vivobook 14" Laptop offers solid performance for its price point, making it a good choice for students and professionals who require a dependable laptop for standard computing tasks.

Affordable and reliable Windows S laptop

If you're in the market for an affordable and reliable Windows S laptop, the ASUS Vivobook is worth a look
This laptop has an i3 intel chip and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD that provides enough of power for basic tasks like browsing the web, checking email, and working on documents. It has Bluetooth connectivity which is a plus in a budget computer. The 14-inch HD display is not the sharpest screen, it's not a touchscreen but it's bright and easy on the eyes. I was able to watch a whole movie comfortably and working at the office on a 14-inch screen is not ideal but it's more than bearable.
The setup was easy and would have been quicker if it wasn't for the ton of unending updates at the beginning. It’s light and portable and easy to carry and fits in practically any backpacks. It’s quite responsive; I usually maintain several tabs open and it handles them surprisingly well. I’ve had a few issues connecting it to my HP printer which made printing documents frustrating at times. The battery life is impressive. I'm able to use it all day without charging until the evening. For such an affordable laptop, the keyboard, not backlit, is comfortable to type on and the touchpad is responsive.
This computer is limited by Windows S. Basically, it's a Windows version of a Chromebook. It's a good computer if you’re immersed in the Microsoft Windows world. You only have access to the apps in the Microsoft store. At first, I tried to download Chrome and I got a message stating that I would lose Windows S and its web protection features forever if I continued. I still went ahead but I was not successful, for some reasons it did not download Chrome.
In conclusion, I'd say that the ASUS Vivobook 14 is a good option for students or anyone looking for an affordable and reliable laptop. It is not ideal for gaming or other demanding tasks, but if you're a fan of the Windows universe and want to basic computer tasks, this laptop is well priced and a good choice.

Nice laptop for school work and watching movies

Out the box this is a nice looking laptop. It has a little weight to it so it doesn't feel cheap but not heavy enough to weigh down your bag. I got this for my niece as a graduation present since she will be starting college in the fall. It boots up quick and is responsive with the Windows 11 build it came with.
I tested out a few video apps and watched some movies on Amazon Prime and the quality was great, not skipping or studdering during video playback. The audio was as good as other laptops but nothing I would rave about. It is not built for gaming but for surfing the web, doing research, and working with MS Office or Google Docs it is more than powerful enough to get the job done. It charged up fast but you will only get 3 to 4 hours out of the battery if you are using it as intended with the brightness all the way up. I tested the wifi on my network and was getting 350 MB/s on my WiFi 6 network.
Out the box to setup with a new microsoft account for my niece was probably 10 minutes and then ran the usual updates and rebooted a few times and it was ready to go. My only complaint would be the memory but again this is a budget laptop and for the price it is more than enough for non-power users.
It comes with a 128 GB NVME for the main storage and 8 GB of RAM that can be easily upgraded to 40 GB with a simple RAM addition. I did that in about 5 minutes to remove the back panel and install the upgrade for less than $50. In a laptop like this the RAM will be your best upgrade. I may also clone the 128 GB NVME to a 1 TB NVME that was also only $50 and she will have all the space she will need to get through 4 years of college.

TLDR - This Vivobook just isn’t enough for most users in 2023 considering other options in this value range. The screen is only 1366x768, you only have 128gb of SSD storage (quite slow for NVME as well) 8GB is acceptable, but a 2 generation/2.5 year old processor really isn’t. The body plastics feel about a half a step above something from Fisher Price. At least you can upgrade the RAM/SSD without too much trouble. I would recommend getting the system out of S mode also, so you can run any apps and not just ones from the Microsoft Store.
Body/build - The overall quality of this system is ok, like 6/10. Somehow the body doesn’t flex much considering the plastic looks/feels like a glorified toy. There are odd gaps around the ports, and somehow it doesn’t have a single port faster than 5Gbit/s, and still has 2 x USB2.0 ports. (not like I’m expecting thunderbolt in this level of system, just having the USB-C port be 10Gbit/s) The bezel around the screen isn’t too thick though, and surprisingly the webcam is actually passable.
Screen - The screen is somehow not awful, but it isn’t good either. Only 1366x768, and according to Asus website, only 200nits peak brightness. Don’t expect to have any decent colors either, I wouldn’t even call the color accuracy mediocre at 45% NTSC.
Speakers - Lows are terrible, can’t turn it up very high without causing distortion. Good enough for youtube videos or basic media consumption.
CPU - The 1115G4 isn’t a terrible CPU, it’s just getting quite long in the tooth. I feel like Asus probably still had too many of these left over and needed to clear stock. Being a 2 generation old 2core/4thread CPU, you can see it get overworked with any intensive tasks. Browsing and media consumption are about its max. To put a number on it, it pulled a 2641 in the multi thread Cinebench R23 10 minute test. (even a 12th gen Pentium Gold 8505 would be a decent upgrade, and an i3 1215U runs away from the 1115G4)
GPU - Obviously this isn’t a gaming laptop, but just to have the numbers, the system pulled a 1544 in 3Dmark firestrike and 695 in Timespy out of the box with no optimization. A memory upgrade could help with this. You should be able to play LoL at lower settings smoothly, but not much more.
Storage/Ram - The included 128GB SSD isn’t really enough these days either. You only have 70-80GB available when first getting into the system, so you’re a bit held back with what you can install. The ram at 8GB of 3200 is one of the parts I am completely fine with on this system. (4GB would be too little, and 16GB isn’t necessary at this tier)
Overall the system is passable, but really should have triple the storage, a 1080p screen with at least slightly better brightness and better color accuracy, at least one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, and at least change the texture or something of the plastics…(If you keep searching you’ll find lots of options!)
(500GB or 512GB nvme SSDs are easily found under $30 as of May ‘23)

There are some things that I feel in tech should not be this bad anymore but on occasion still are and I just wonder why. I have had several ASUS laptops all at different price points and they have all been great.
So it was shocking to me that this laptop works and runs so well yet it has such a terrible screen.
At times the laptop is close to being unusable especially if you are near a window and have direct light hitting it.
There are several other devices that compete with these laptops that have way better screens.
It's just so disappointing because everything else with the these laptop is pretty great even for being an all plastic build it's a solid built laptop very light. It's quick is able to run any programs I need for work and my kids school.
Even handles some light gaming. But the screen really holds it back from being able to recommend especially with all the competition.
If you can get the one with the oled screen I would probably pick that one up over this as you would assuredly get much better image quality than this one.

Great For: Travel, light duty work, lightweight, headphone users
Pros:
Lightweight (like a spiral notebook light)
Compact charger
Battery is all day amazing
Screen is amazing
Thin bezels allow for a compact frame
Ram upgrade Available
With SSD Lightning fast start up
Hard Drive upgrade available
Cons:
Plastic Build/ Durability (for Me read below)
Keyboard Flex
No Back Light Keyboard
Audio
Heat
Performance is mediocre
Overall this is a good system for the price and I do recommend the SSD for the price. But my main concerns for everyone is the heat and fan noises, both are very apparent and if you have this on your lap you better have a laptop tray or keep it on a desk. Even when I was watching YouTube or streaming Netflix, this thing kicked up immediately, even with low settings and the battery saver mode on. The performance for the build seems lacking and struggled with 3 explorer windows open and one excel file while I was doing research and nothing in the background. Which you should be able to run with an i3, I could accept this if it was an M3 or bottom of the bucket system but not with this.
Consideration: If you are of average frame and strength then this build will be perfect and the keyboard flex and body is the perfect fit between lightweight and rigidity. My friends, both female and male, are going to buy this set up for their travel needs but for me it is lacking. Please take in consideration that I stand at 6', 200 lbs and have a combined total of 1600 + on the big three lifts in power lifting so I am large and strong. This adds to my need for a strong system and willing to sacrifice some weight for strength. Also I do a lot of research as well as build systems so this may be my over expectations kicking in just a tad, if you are coming from only using low end systems, this is probably a half grade up (C+ or B) system
Best For: If you are looking for a travel laptop and are planning on doing light work this is an amazing buy for the price. Not only is it light the battery charger is tiny and with the thin bezels, this is a super compact design. Even with the fan and heat, if you use a cool mat on your lap you will be find especially with the screen being amazing for the price. And with all the ports available it is hard to go wrong.
For the price it is an amazing starting point and hard to beat especially with such an amazing brand such as ASUS. Always loved ASUS and they build amazing machines. Oh and this is a BEAUTIFUL machine and the lid is amazing. I am just going to save for a step up. If you can save for 750 - 800, I would recommend going up a bit in the ASUS line.

Not a bad value for what you get

Before I dig too far into this review, I want to state that I use macOS computers more than I use Windows OS computers. I have experience with both and I do find use for both operating systems but I do use macOS systems more frequently. One of the first things I noticed about the laptop is that until all of its updates were complete, it didn’t function properly. What I mean by that is that I attempted to click on the Windows menu icon and it didn’t open until I finished updates.
Set up of the computer was pretty standard. I got it out of the box, plugged it into power and hit the power button. At that point, I had a number of Windows 11 screens to walk through. You do have to have a Windows account and connection to the Internet in order to complete the startup process. If you don’t have one, you can complete the setup process for an account during the initial starting phase. Once you get through the initial setup, you will want to complete Windows Updates. There are quite a few to get through.
Display
The display has an HD resolution of 1366 x 768 which is a wide screen resolution for HD. I watched a few videos on YouTube on this laptop and feel that for an HD screen, it’s providing an average viewing experience. The images are clear, but not as clear as my iPad Pro which has a resolution of 2732 x 2048 or 2K. So, given the opportunity, I would choose to watch videos on my iPad instead of this laptop.
Physical Appearance
The laptop has a basic look to it. When I first took it out of its box, I thought it almost felt like a toy because the outside of it has a plastic feel to it. It’s lightweight and easy to carry around, but doesn’t feel like a pro-level laptop.
Keyboard
The keyboard has an average feel to it for a laptop. I didn’t really have any issues with the spacing of the keys or the responsiveness of them but my average typing speed and accuracy did seem to suffer when I took a typing test. I usually average around 73 WPM and using this laptop’s keyboard, it was 62 WPM.
Speakers
The speakers are pretty loud but they aren’t really anything to write home about. With the 4k videos I watched, the sound was hollow and way too bright in my opinion. I think they will work well functionally with daily tasks such as system sounds or video conferences but in general I would recommend using headphones or external speakers.
Speed/Performance
This laptop runs on an 11th generation Intel Core i3 processor (Intel I3-1115G4). The primary functions of this type of processor include basic computing tasks such as word processing, Internet browsing, emailing, and streaming videos. It’s not really designed to handle gaming, but it can handle less-intensive games. The processor has been around since 2010 with the 11th Gen being in production since 2020. It’s part of the Tiger Lake architecture and there have been two newer generations of the processor released since this one.
I ended up using two different benchmarking tests - Geekbench and Novabench. With Novabench, the Vivobook got an overall score of 909, which seems to be on the higher average score among overall scores from 2023 for that processor. With the Geekbench test, there were 12 other 11th Gen i3 Processors in the Benchmark chart. The Vivobook was number 11 on that list.
Final Thoughts
This is an average laptop for basic users in my opinion. It ran smoothly for me and completed the tasks I requested of it with little issues. As far as value for the device, I would say it’s a decent value. I did a search for similar laptops with close to the same specs and this laptop was the least expensive model from this retailer (excluding clearance prices). In general, I would probably not recommend this laptop because machines with better specs can be found for around the same price. That said, it’s not a bad laptop.

Both of my laptops (old MacBook Pro and Lenovo Y50) were starting to show their age. Basic processing was getting slower and slower.
I needed a laptop for college courses, and this fits the bill. I got it at a little bit of a discount, and it does everything I need it to do as a student.
8GB is fine for everyday use, I occasionally edit audio for a podcast and the computer sometimes lags behind on memory and processing power when doing that. That's to be expected.
The battery life is pretty good. It can handle an average day on one charge for me. I still routinely bring my charger along, just in case. It charges from low power rather quickly, which is convenient as well.
The speakers are lower quality, but what do you expect in a budget laptop. They don't sound bad, but they're definitely not top tier.
The display is fine. It's an HD display, but it's not insane. I use it inside and it's bright enough for that.
My only issue is that the 128GB SSD isn't very large, but I was able to replace it fairly easily with a 1TB SSD.
Overall, it's a great little laptop if you keep your expectations in check. Don't expect a workhorse for the price, but it will definitely handle everyday functions of running Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web surfing.

Bought this as a school computer. Mostly for online classes. Plenty is speed, lots of storage and good memory. So far battery life is respectable, I haven’t run out of juice yet even after a couple hours. No problems running spreadsheet, word processor and being online all at the same time. Even stream videos while working and no issues. Probably not what you’d need for I line gaming or video editing but so far it’s performed well with everything I’ve thrown at it.

This laptop is fast and easy to setup. I got it to travel with as the 14 inch would take up less space. It was very reasonably priced and serves our purpose. It does not have a card reader or expanded keyboard. The charging cord has a cord that is smaller than most, and the plug is tiny. Good to have i3 processor.

Better than I thought I was getting. Core i3 processor outdoes itself all the time. Short on storage but I knew that upon purchase. Can use an external ssd for more if you need it . Fast, small, lightweight. Does what I wanted to do plus more. Not my main computer but punches above its weight. Inexpensive solution to one of my problems. I use it for usb duplication and internet and that is all, works for that.

This is a great light weight unit for surfing and casual work. I have not tested it’s limits on applications yet. My only disappointment is the BB description says touch screen it is not. And the viewing angle is not great. There is only one spot directly in front of it that you can experience all the brightness and color. Left and right or screen angled back and there are dark corners

Great value! This is nice size laptop that meets my needs. I like that is functional and lightweight. I can carry this and my work chromebook without being weighed down. When watching videos, the picture is crystal clear and I forget at times that it's a laptop! Battery life is great as well. It can run all day without needing to be charged.

The ASUS Vivobook 14” Laptop, equipped with an Intel Core i3-1115G4 processor, 8GB of memory, and a 128GB SSD, strikes a commendable balance between performance and affordability. Its sleek, transparent silver finish gives it a modern and professional look, making it suitable for both students and professionals who need a dependable daily driver without breaking the bank.
Performance-wise, the Intel Core i3-1115G4 offers solid capabilities for everyday tasks such as browsing the web, working on documents, and streaming videos. While it may not be the best choice for intensive tasks like video editing or gaming, the 8GB of RAM ensures smooth multitasking for standard applications.

I bought this for a younger family member that seems to break just about everything. This computer was on sale for $199 and was the perfect price for a replacement computer. This does come with Windows 11 in S Mode, took about 10 min to switch out of S Mode and into Windows 11 Home. Laptop is very light, and portable.

TL;DR: Great as a general use computer. Battery life is disappointing. Quite a bit of (Microsoft-specific) bloatware. The Microsoft Windows 11 "S" version just isn't worth it in comparison to the full version. NO TOUCHSCREEN, despite what the website leads you to believe. Vivid screen, nice keyboard. Not a lot of hard drive space, but with the 8GB memory, it runs fast!
Review:
I have now had this laptop for about a month and it is my primary laptop (my previous one, a Chromebook, broke). I bought this instead of another Chromebook because ultimately, I just use Microsoft Office more. I don't play video games on this laptop, it's mainly for work, casual browsing, video chats with friends, and watching YouTube. For those kind of things, it works great.
When I first purchased it, the laptop had a limited version of Microsoft Windows 11 called "S", which is supposed to be the Microsoft version of Chromebook's OS. I tried to use it, to see how it went, and at first I liked the speediness of the apps. But, you can't download anything that isn't in the Microsoft app shop (their version of Google's Play store), and the Microsoft app shop is seriously lacking. Finally, after about two weeks, I went to full version.
One major drawback of this laptop is the battery. It drains very quickly for a mid-to-lower tier graphics laptop. One of the things I was hoping to get with it was portability, as it's small, less than 4 lbs, and easy to carry. But if you're doing anything besides typing on a Word document, the battery will be drained in a few hours.
I've increased the battery life by tweaking the settings here and there and trying to get rid of as much bloatware as I can. Unfortunately, Microsoft loves including needless stuff on their laptops, from Xbox Gaming to Microsoft Edge. I tried Edge for a few weeks out of curiosity (I haven't really used a Microsoft browser since the early 2000s) and I don't mind the layout of Edge, and I think they've made some serious improvements on its usability, but what a battery hog! It was using 83% of my system's battery, and when I was using Edge, I noticed within 3 hours, I'd have to plug my laptop in to charge. I went back to Firefox and cut the battery drain by half. Unfortunately, you cannot uninstall Edge from the laptop, nor can you uninstall most of the other bloatware.
As for the screen, it's quite vivid and looks great inside and in natural lighting streaming through a window. I have no complaints, although I do suspect it's another battery drain. By the way, the website and the in-store label says the laptop is touchscreen. IT IS NOT. Disappointing that there isn't a touchscreen version, but not a deal-breaker for me (especially when bought at the sale price, which was less than $300).
Also, the keyboard isn't cramped, feels responsive, and has a good "snap" when typing. There are F-keys which double as shortcuts, something I always like.
Microsoft Windows 11 has moved the windows icon to the middle of the taskbar and has changed the look of everything, I suspect to mimic Chromebooks' OS. I don't mind it, although I do wish the icon had remained on the left side (now there's a weather/widget icon there), but I find the appearance of the windows to be cleaner. Again, I do wish there was less bloat though; I don't mind the option of certain useful widgets, but if you want to use them there's no way to turn off the "feed" (aka useless "articles" that they think you'll be interested in) that also pops up. The ASUS laptops also come with something called MyASUS, which provides more customization, including a handy battery charging customization that extends battery life.
The 8GB memory and SSD hard drive keeps the laptop running at a nice clip. My laptop before the Chromebook was 16GB but a normal hard drive and it was a slow dinosaur. Be aware that this is only 128 GB though; not very much.
All-in-all, I can't complain. For a laptop that's under $300 (when on sale), this is a really good deal. I don't think I'd pay full price for this -- with the low hard drive space and the disappointing battery life and lack of touchscreen, I think there's better options once you push above $400, so definitely get this on sale if you're considering it.

Good laptop at affordable price range. I use it for a little music production laptop. It can handle running a bunch of vsts at once and doesn't get all buggy. I stream gamepass on it from time time and and also holds up well

This is a great laptop for everyday use. It has just enough power and it's just the right size. It's portable without being too small and it is very durable. Would definitely buy this again.
