I purchased the Gen 2 in the past and fell in love with August products ever since. I'm familiar with August products and know how wonderful their locks are. If you're experiencing any problems, check for updates in your cellphone app store. August releasing a lot of updates lately and things are improving. Especially the auto unlock feature. I love the simplicity of the new design. Only thing missing is the beep when it lock/unlock like the Gen 2 version, lol. The motor inside of the lock is strong. It's louder than the Gen 2 version when locking and unlocking. But it doesn't bother me and seem to be jammed less often than the previous models. Depends on which cellphone you using. Things are easier for iOS devices than Android devices. You need to purchase Google Home to lock it via voice. But you're not going to be able to lock with your voice. That's only for Apple device users. Plus you doesn't need to buy additional devices to do so. I recommend the keypad with these smart locks. People hate downloading the August app. Guess I know a bunch of lazy people, lol.

It is stylish, not as bulky as the first model and it knows when you're close by to unlock the door upon your arrival

But be mindful when purchasing you need the WiFi connect adapter to control over WiFi .. but if Bluetooth is good enough for you, so is this dope lock. Keep it up August.

I live in the city and hate carrying keys everywhere I walk. I bought this specifically to use with Bluetooth and have been happy so far. Took about fifteen mins to get installed and running. The app is very straight forward and the sending a "key" by text works well. It does have some connectivity issues at times. But only when I'm outside and not close enough to the door. Hardly enough to complain about. The auto lock feature works perfectly set at thirty secs. For an entry level product it's perfectly fine.

I purchased this lock, because we only have one key for our front door. We are constantly coming and going, and only one person is able to have the key at a time. It is inconvenient to not have the key and need to come in at the middle of the night, leaving someone else to stay up to let them in. With this lock, they can simply whip out their phone and unlock it, leaving us peace of mind that people can come and go as they need to without leaving the door unlocked. The installation could not have been simpler. It took me and my mom maybe 10 minutes to get it installed, and neither of us have ever installed a lock before. The only complaint I have with the installation is my fault. I didn't tighten the mounting plate enough, and the lock will sometimes slightly move as it locks and unlocks. However, I do rest knowing that it is indeed secure and will not fall off. One other complaint: It is not quiet. I can be in my room towards one end of the house and hear it as it locks and unlocks. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you have kids and want to know if they're sneaking in in the middle of the night, but it can be annoying at times. However, it is not enough of an inconvenience to knock off a star. Overall, this is a great lock with a simple to use app and simple install process.

It's really nice to come home with my arms full of groceries and not have to fumble with keys to unlock the door. I love being able to issue guests temporary digital keys which allow them to come and go as they please without me ever having to make/find/lose a physical key. Plus, paired with the wireless bridge, I am able to unlock the door remotely for guests if the need arises. My one and only complaint is that it is kind of noisy, but it's not a big deal.

So this recently came out from August and I must say it is simply product and easy to install. Note that an existing deadlock must be in place for this to function correctly. It also only works with certain deadlocks so be sure to read the specs.

Purchased this cause why not. It is working as needed. Auto Unlock works as needed. Note: 1. You may want to purchase your own batteries and use that. I had some random issues (connectivity, not locking all the way etc), and changing the batteries with fresh ones fixed it. I'm guessing the batteries it came with weren't the best quality. 2. Android OS and the BT in it is finicky and the recent updates permission may make auto-unlock worse. Its an Android thing cause my wife can use her iOS device fine without issues. 3. It is a bit loud but its bearable. Nothing that will annoy you. 4. the wifi adapter does need to be in close range and you may end up putting it on kitchen counter plugs.

I purchased this because I didn't want this on wifi immediately and it uses your existing keys, so your not needing a new lock/key. Your are simply replacing the back part of your lock. The lock uses bluetooth and the smallest interference causes the lock not to sync. I have a smart watch and bluetooth in my car so it would take 2-5min after I was standing at the door to actually unlock. Sometimes it wouldn't even sync until I powered off my car. I purchased the wifi module and this challenge became finding a plug closest to the front door. I say try to get it within 3ft. I tested it from 1ft to 5ft using an extension cord. At 4ft I started to experience lag sync which occurred about 3 out 10 times. And if my wife and I showed up together it took a little longer to sync (4ft and 5ft). I tested each distance for 2 days and the best, in my current home network setup, was 3ft or less. After testing, I decided to make my own wall outlet and put it about 1ft from the lock. This made the lock work awesome. Now the lock works like it should. By the time we get to the driveway, the lock is already in the process of syncing and starts the unlocking. Now that the lock is on wifi, we are able to unlock the door when we are away from the house. Other features include granting permission to other people to download the app and allowing them to use their mobile. This does work with Alexa as well. I would only recommend this if you also purchase the wifi module and can keep it fairly close. My friend has his wifi module at 5ft, but he also uses wifi extenders, so it could be possible to keep it that far. To sum up, I like that this doesn't require to replace your existing lock and keys; I recommend buying the wifi module and depending on your home network 1ft to 5ft distance from the lock. 5 stars if you go buy module and keep it close, 2.5 stars if you just use the lock.

It automatically unlocks my door when I pull in the driveway. We are so attached to this thing that when we lose power and actually have to use our key, we are lost. First world problems! This will make your life so much easier; being able to see if it's locked remotely, and being able to lock your door if you're not home, will really ease your mind. You can also grant someone access to get inside through the app, for as little or as long as you want.

Works great. We also bought the connect and it works remotely and also with Alexa Make sure you go all the way through the initial install steps including calibration I’m using with a Bellkin router and stays connected just fine and the router is a Couple of rooms away !

I have been an August smart Lock user for over the past four years, I was not too impressed with the previous version's reliability and design, the lock had some lag time between receiving signal and auto unlocking, an oversized round lock mechanism that many visitors had to stare at to figure how to open; Plus the batteries died which seemed way to fast. This newly redesigned August lock feels like it's had been rebuilt with time and care, the response time for auto unlocking is much more efficient, the design now looks more like a common lock you'd expect, the added feature of knowing if the door is left ajar and I can't comment too much on the battery life since I've had it for one month but so far the improvements have made me overall happy. A minor thing I would say about the new redisgned I didn't like is, this version doesn't have an audible tone to let you know it's been unlock but the sound of the unlocking mechanism itself is louder from the previous version, so regardless you'll know from the sound of the gears working that it's unlocking, even from a far distance that's for sure! Great improvements August, I'm once again happy with your products!

This smart lock is great. The quality of the lock is very nice, especially for the price. Setup took me less than 10 minutes, and it has been working flawlessly for the past few days since I’ve installed it. I would recommend this for anyone that’s trying to make their home “smarter” and want the convenience that a smart lock provides.

Never heard of August so was little weary about its product. But once installed it was a breeze. Later I purchased August Key Pad which I was able to install very easily and it worked well in tandem with August Smart Lock. I assigned a key to my family members and they are glad that they don't have to lug the key everywhere they go. It was the smart decision.

I've had this product for about 9 months now. So far, this product has been pretty good, with some issues here and there. One issue to point out is that you shouldn't use dollar store batteries with it. It doesn't last long and it glitches out a lot. I used them once and one time the motor was constant running on lock. So I couldn't use the app and I couldn't unlock it with my key (I went through the back door instead). But my main issue is that with android (which I have), it's hit or miss with the auto unlock (mainly hit but the miss happens enough that it's worth mentioning). However with iPhone's (which my family has) it's really accurate with the auto unlock. They do clearly state it in the app during the setup, but I should mention it so you know before you take the plunge. But overall, I don't regret buying it by any means, and I might even buy it for my back door.

The lock is very nice and feels well built. The installation was very easy. The August app does a good job with the videos and tutorials they provide for installation. We use the Auto Unlock and auto lock features. We have not had a problem with the lock not unlocking upon approaching it. We have been using the lock for over a month now and I have not needed to use my keys. I did not install the door sense sensor because I did not want to have it sticking out of the wall and didn’t want to put another hole in the door frame. Maybe it would serve more of a purpose for somebody with kids. The only reason for 4 stars is the motors in the lock are quite loud. You can hear it from outside the door. I did not expect it. It also makes a sound after the lock is locked or unlocked that sounds like the motor is trying to over work. I have to look into this.

August smart lock was easy to install and simple to set up. It functions perfectly with the app to unlock my doors on arrival and re-lock the doors behind me. I'm a groggy morning person, so the peace of mind knowing that I *did* remember to lock the door this morning is worth it. It also payed off in other ways: letting in the plumber was easy when there was an emergency leak and the app let us know that our pet sitter wasn't coming while we were on vacation, so we were able to arrange another sitter from 1000 miles away AND let her in and out without having to get her keys. There's a million little ways that smart locks are handy -- and these locks do the job. CONS: If you have and use multiple doors, you'll need a hub for each lock -- it would be great if multiple locks could work off the same hub, but sadly that's not the case. Similarly, auto-unlock only works on one door per phone... if you're like me and have a vestibule/patio door to get through before the front or back door, I still have to unlock one of them manually -- I use the August keypad to stay key-free.

Perfecf for house sitters and out of town guest. Only wish I had more guidance in store about the August bridge, but definitely worth the purchase and pairs nicely with my Ring doorbell.

We purchased the lock so we could let in a dog walker while on vacation without needing to give them a key. It worked perfectly for that and she had no problems gaining access while we were gone. The app is very clean and simple and most importantly, it works all the time. The Auto Unlock feature when arriving home has been another unexpected highlight. I spent quite awhile trying to understand the difference between this and the more expensive August “pro” and didn’t see much call for the price delta as this unit does everything we would ask of a smart lock.

I purchased this smart lock as a way to lock the front door of my apartment, which is often left unlocked by my forgetful roommates. My apartment already had a lock installed (a Kaba Saflok deadbolt lock), but I was able to install this lock on the back of my existing lock without a problem. Instead of using the included screws to mount the mounting plate to the back of the door, I used an industrial strength 3M adhesive strip to avoid having to drill holes into the Kaba rear access plate. The lock fit perfectly and has worked perfectly since I put it in! The only complaint that I have regarding this lock is that August did not include wifi or z wave functionality in the lock itself like it does with the bulkier August Pro lock. They do make a Wifi bridge, which I purchased along with this lock, but it does not provide a consistent user experience. It suffers from poor connectivity and high latency times. Other than that, it has been the perfect compliment to my smart home setup! My favorite feature is the auto unlock hands down! I haven't needed to manually unlock my door since the day I installed it back in January!
