If you love Metroidvania-style games, Axiom Verge is for you. It's got awesome weapons and environments. The extras in the Multiverse Edition are worth the extra cost over a physical copy. This is a must-have in your Nintendo Switch collection.

Finally, a physical copy to an amazing game and what an edition. It comes with a sound track, blu-ray with 5 hours worth of features, the game w/paying homage to Super Mario Bros, and much much more!

This game is pretty fantastic. It takes the Metroidvania genre and builds on it immensely. An interesting story, a wide variety of weapons, and plenty of hidden secrets to discover. This is one of those games that uses "the potato chip effect" so effectively that it is hard to put down. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Plus, the extras in the Multiverse Edition are pretty awesome too. Definitely worth the $40 price tag.

I'm a fan of old school Metroid titles and this game is very much like those. Great music and weapons too. I like the stuff that came with the Multiverse edition.

If you like games like metroid and castlevania then you'll enjoy Axiom Verge. A beautiful and engaging art style compliments a game with a lot of depth. Not as good as a classic like Super Metroid or SotN, but a great addition to the Switch library all the same.

This game is awesome! Anyone who enjoyed super metroid will feel right at home here. The entire game, design, programming, artwork, music, was made by one guy. And this multiverse edition is a collector’s dream come true. What you get for the money is truly fantastic. Plus, the developer is donating 75% of their profits from the physical copy sales to the child of the man who made the game because the kid has a disease and very high medical bills. All of that, plus it’s an amazing game to play!

This game is similar to the 2d Metroid games. It is hard to believe that most of the game was made by just one person. It is an outstanding game for fans of metroid style games. Also the developer is donating 75% of the sales of the physical realease of this game are being donated to help cover the medical expenses of the son of the games creator. So buy this game physically not digitally and get an awesome game, with extra swag, and know your money is going to a good cause.

If you're a huge fan of the Metroid series by Nintendo, this game is a must buy! The design of this game from the sprite work to the mechanics screams Metroid, which if you look behind the development of the game, becomes more obvious. The game does, however, has its own unique weapons and abilities that makes it its own game. As Trace, you obtain multiple weapons, smart bombs, and powers that allow you to transform the world around you through glitches that affect the terrain around you to discover secrets and hidden paths. This game was obviously made with love and is very deep for an indie game. The Multiverse edition is great for fans of this game as it does include a behind-the-scenes documentary and an artbook of the whole project that is nice to own and look back on. Whether you get this on your Switch, PS4, or any other platform, you will not regret this purchase!

Axiom Verge proudly wears its inspiration on its sleeve, namely the Metroid series and in particular the original NES game. Created primarily by just a single developer with a passion for classic games it features an inspired dark retro style and and a *fantastic* sound track. The Switch release features a number of nice additions including an artbook, soundtrack CD and a making of feature Blu-Ray.

I remember the early days of my gaming career...and by that I mean being 6 years old and playing Metroid for the NES for the first time. I fondly remember jumping up and down mashing the B and A buttons, pumping motherbrain full of missiles. Some 25 years later, those nostalgic feelings are as fresh as ever when I fire up that title screen again. The reason I'm sharing this? That's because Axiom Verge let me relive those feelings again, without having to play the original metroid game. Let's something straight. I would not classify this as a metroidvania. To do so would imply that there are elements from the Castlevania series present in Axiom Verge, and I believe it would be a misrepresentation. This feelings purely like a Metroid game through and through. That is not to say it is a rip off, or clone, in anyway. The material, plethora of weapons/items, story, etc, are all new IP's that do a great job of being a unique game, just with a Metroid feel. One weapon in particular is a nod toward the buggy nature of the cartridge based NES metroid (specifically when tiles weren't the right color, or design). The reason why I said it's a cross between Metroid and Super Metroid? Well there are a few reasons for that. The game feels very 8 bit in nature, especially the graphics. While the graphics are 8 bit there are features that allow for camera zooming (automatically), especially when you in a room with a rather large boss. I guess I'm trying to say it's not a fixed 8 bit graphic setup. Super Metroid chimes in with the ability to save, as well as the mapping system, and a few other odds and ends here and there. It was all just fantastic. The only downside to this game is the publisher, Badland Games. Upon making a deal with the developer, they agreed a portion of the profits would be donated to the medical care for his disabled son. Many people bought multiple copies of this game for that very reason, and it turns out they never made good on their promise. While the developer and distributor put up their own lawsuit, it wouldn't surprise me to find out it turns into a class action lawsuit against Badland games. All this being said, don't let that stop you from buying the game. I held off for a few years on this game, waiting until I could get a physical copy on a Nintendo system. *Something* about playing this game on a Nintendo system just felt right. This was a great game and I eagerly await the next!

This is a fantastic game, made by one man. It’s a great take on the Metroid-vania or exploratory side scroller genre. Also, 75% of the proceeds of the physical version of the game will go to a great cause for the developer’s sons health issues.

This games story and atmosphere is great, it really pulls off the tone of Super Metroid. The controls are a little finicky; you get this ability to teleport a few feet in front of you, but how you do it is by double tapping the joystick forward, I found myself constantly doing it by mistake in boss fights since I was moving forward then would stop and move forward again thus triggering the teleport. There is no way to turn this off that I know of. Other than that it's a great game and I wouldn't let that small issue ruin it for your (it didn't for me).
