Seriously though. For the sale price, this set is a steal. First sci-fi series I ever loved. Packaging is neat — it’s minimalist, but high quality. Not over the top - just right. And because the description for these things on Best Buy can be lacking — this includes both The Plan and Razor, not Blood and Chrome though. Dew it.

This review will be more about the packaging instead of the series itself, because let's face it. If you're purchasing this box set, you probably already know how great it is. Packaging was good, heavy quality. Though, it seems as though they might be getting ready to pull it from shelves and re release it, because the price dropped super low, then they didn't get anymore in store and I couldn't find it anywhere else either. Generally when that happens, they're getting rid of all the copies currently out there. So maybe wait to purchase this box set and wait for the re release which would hopefully have a VUDU/digital copy included.

A Masterclass in Science Fiction Storytelling

A groundbreaking sci-fi series! A masterclass in well-written, character-driven storytelling, with some unforgettable performances by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, and Katee Sackhoff, just to name a few from this incredible cast.
Not to mention Bear McCreary's emotionally charged score, enriched with intricately developed leitmotifs that earn the music (in this reviewer's mind, at least) a place alongside the great thematic works of Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams. What sets Mr. McCreary's work on this series apart from those large, orchestral, cinematic scores, however, is his inventive and eclectic use of worldly instrumentation that evokes a wide range of emotion, from tear-jerking warmth and desperate humanity to spine-tingling notes of the hauntingly ethereal, all while serving to inform the viewer about the culture of the Twelve Colonies.
With rich characters, intense action, an enticing premise, and a hummable score, lovers of science fiction should not miss this amazing series!
As far as the package itself goes, it's pretty darn nice! I love the presentation of it: the grayscale artwork printed on a silvery, metallic substrate that's reminiscent of the Cylons' chromium plating. And (for this fan) it's great to finally watch it in high-definition. The show was shot digitally and many of the low-light conditions of the sets means that there's a very present noise or digital grain to just about every shot, but I love it! It's a gritty show with hand-held, documentary style cinematography, so I feel like that grain is just baked into the DNA of the series and is a part of the visual experience of it. Some films/series are shot in black and white, or color, or are crisp and digital, or soft and filmic. If there's a team of passionate artists behind the camera, then those decisions of visual presentation are just as important as the words in the script and the feeling behind an actor's performance. It's a gritty, grainy show, so if you find yourself bugged by that, I recommend that the viewer learn to love it. It's part of what makes "Battlestar Galactica" the unique story that it is. Overall, it's a great product for a great series!

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: COMPLETE SERIES IS A WONDER!

Probably one of the greatest if not the best television science fiction drama of all time, even, in my opinion, surpassing Star Trek, it is fitting justification that this television series is preserved in Blu-ray.
I have much to say about this series, even though I may not be the most passionate science fiction space buff. I find watching the episodes of this striking classic excellent adult entertainment. It is always bold in nature, interesting in story content and always, in specific episodes, sexually adult without being cheap and tawdry.
The principal characters are all defined and professionally presented in the fine acting of those who graced this epic series throughout.
I am thrilled that BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is preserved in this compact set of 26 DVDs. Even if you may not find a science fiction space series to your taste, you would appreciate that it is also a fine example of series adult drama, which my be just what you might appreciate.

Everyone remembers the 1978 season long epic known as "Battlestar Galactica." Cheesy sets, cheesy costumes, cheesy acting, and cheesy special effects Rushed into production by Universal Studios as a knee-jerk reaction to "Star Wars" (and employing many of "Star Wars" special effects technicians), the original Battlestar Galactica, from the brain of television mastermind Glen A. Larson ("Magnum P.I.", "Knight Rider"), is rife with potential.
Potential that was masterfully culled from the series almost twenty-five years later by producer Ronald D. Moore ("Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", and "Carnivale") and sewn into one of television's most engrossing new series.
Sure, the new "Battlestar Galactica" had it's faults; it seemed to lose steam around season three and did that God-awful union episode, but it recovered and delivered what I consider to be one of television's more satisfying series finales.
The casting for this series is impeccable: Edward James Olmos as fleet Commander William Adama, Mary McDonnell as the President of the Colonies Laura Roslin, Kaytee Sackhoff as the brash, mouthy Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, Jamie Bamber as Lee "Apollo" Adama, James Callis as the egomaniacal Dr. Gaius Baltar and Tricia Helfer as the gorgeous, deadly "Number 6." The cast is rife with tremendous supporting characters, led by Michael Hogan as the sympathetic, if not alcoholic Col. Saul Tigh and Grace Park as the conflicted Sharon "Boomer" Valeri. It seems every character who steps onto the landing deck of the Galactica is rife with troubles and conflicts. Rich character development, breathtaking special effects, and solid writing (for the most part) make "Battlestar Galactica" one of those examples where the remake outshines the original.

Battlestar Galactica is an AMAZING series. There is great writing and great actors doing what they do best. The begnning of the saga is basically the same story as in the 1970s version. The Humans of the 12 Colonies created Cylons to do all their menial tasks. The Cylons became sentient, rose up, and made war on the Humans. After the end of that first war, the Cylons waited and plotted and struck back in a devastating attack, leaving very few people and very few spacecraft alive. Led by the Battlestar Galactica, the remaining Humans flee across the galaxy from the relentless Cylons towards the mythical thirteenth colony of Earth. The twist? Between the two wars, the Cylons found a way to look human. There are multiple copies of any of 12 different faces. That means the Humans may be infiltrated by the Cylons. And some of these "sleeper agent" Cylons may not even know they're Cylons until they are activated...

DTS-HD Audio, all the episodes in 1080p (except the also excellent Blood & Chrome), it's fraking great! It's 21 blu-ray discs, not the 26 shown in the description. That's for the DVD version. The packaging says 20 discs with Dolby Digital audio but it's 21 with DTS-HD audio. May the Lords of Kobol have you enjoy every centon.

Realistic Depiction of the Survival of Humanity

Without a doubt, one of the greatest examples of what 'Science Fiction' is really all about. Thought provoking and inspirational drama that is as realistic as it gets. Unafraid to expose the main characters 'Darker sides' for all to see. Spare me the 'Glitzy', 'all too perfect' heros, these folks are realistic and we still love them.
Yet a genuine 'hope' for the future of mankind remains prevalent.
Should be watched in order and all the way to the end to fully understand just how powerfully this story is told. My # 1 favorite came to me promptly and in Mint condition. My Thanx

This is one of the best TV series of the 2000's. I don't really think I can add much as far as the quality of the show itself. I will say that I think the show peaked at the end of season 2.0, but it certainly wasn't bad after that point. It just wasn't as good.
As for the release itself, it's just the individual season sets and The Plan Blu-ray in a nice, thick chipboard box. The box looks nice.
As for the discs? They have extensive bonus features such as commentaries and bonus features.
Overall, it's a very nice release for a fantastic show. It's well worth your time and money.
