These are absolutely horrible now. The earcup covers are completely worn. That started earlier than previous models. Theres feedback like static or rattling in one of the earcups. I bought apple care, because I had problems with a previous set of beats headphones I bought. Before apple was good about replacing them, not anymore. I would never, EVER buy beats headphones again after these experiences.

This is usage impression of Beats Dr Dre Solo Pro Pharrell’s More Matte Collection with iPhone
First impression of the headphone on hand felt solid structure in every aspect of it. Its ear cup cover material is smooth leather alike and strong that fits well on the ear and probably due to slim flexibility of how they are attached to the main frame allowing adapt to different angle.
Unfolding and folding it is smooth transition and despite of its size doesn’t feel heavy and bulky.
Regarding physical controls, it follow the principle of minimalist as all of Apple product. Controls of Volumes, Play etc can be performed via pressing effortlessly the outside cover of ear cup on one side. On the other side has only one button to control the noise cancellation attributes to block, unblock or turn off at all.
It come with carrying case made of soft fabric, which is flexible and has small attachment for screwlock that come with the package. Regarding the case material, probably it depend on each person preference, but the case does’t protect enough if being squeezed in between hard objects in the backpack for instance, but it is flexible and ligher than traditional hard case.
Its detailed functionality is quite close to description from apple dr Dre site (https://www.beatsbydre.com/support/how-to/set-up-and-use-solo-pro).
Setting is mostly limited to the pairing that automatically happen with iPhone without any manual steps.
Now, to the core of headphone, the sound. Being non specialized audiophile, listening is immersive in a sense you feel being close to the performance that the sound does surround your mindset. Two listening executed. First listening of streaming of the live performance of Billie Eilish on Apple Music, in which her voice felt as next to live in person while instruments playing around. Second song stored in the phone listening concert of U2 singing Bullet the blue Sky featuring BB King, in which listening takes to different level in recording room feeling as can feel the mix of drum, guitar and both voice clearly while behind the multitude repeat.
Then for listening experience, spent more than couple of hours while mixing between news and music while working. In this regard, as prolonged usage, my ear felt strong pressure causing some level of pain. Probably this is due to the type of headphone as experienced similar pain with same kind but with different brand. But still with Solo Pro I had to move bit frequently.
Regarding noise cancelling, it is controlled with one tiny button sitting purely lonely at bottom of one of ear cup. Pressing it once then again do the off/on function. The noise cancellation seems to work quite well, can’t fell people coming and going, auto driving, doors opening/closing. However, for instance in a case of a mature person speaking lowed while two kids talking and playing at about 25 feet from listening position, noise cancelling worked but still could hear some voices, It was like being in the crowded swimming pool and when being under water can hear some still but not clearly.
What felt come short, probably this is not exclusive tot he headphone, instead is about the integration between iPhone and Headphone, the control of headphone via iPhone is bit cumbersome. While listing, controlling musing and volume from phone is strategy forward via Apple Music and Song being played. However, for control of noise cancelling, have to enter to Settings>General>Bluetooth>Connected Solo Pro info, then from there can control its different mode.
Then although I could not use the feature of Share Audio, it doesn’t allow to play simultaneously with non Apple headphone while connected to the phone.
Using Siri was straight forward for the short number of use case I did. Like “Siri play song name xyz from my library” and was precise response. “Siri what is my latest email” and wasn’t the optimal response but good enough. “Siri reply to email” and was surprisingly precise on this one. Activating Siri is tapping the control, wasn’t complicated at all.
Among many little things of its functionality that I liked, it is the control itself that are minimalistic that doesn’t interfere with overall H/W design, functional still and mechanical through pressure of buttons, and not made of sensor that work as touch or slide over the surface. I consider this big benefit as I noticed in other brand with touch base control what happen is accidentally as move arm while listening on sofa or so and touch control which change volume, or turn off etc.
Rating and recomendation given based on the quality of sound.
Attached photo of unpacking and paring on the phone process.

Great sound for smaller heads

The Beats Solo Pro headphones look great, sound great, and feel premium. Unfortunately, they miss several marks that prevent them from being for everyone, including myself. And as much as I want to enjoy them, I just can’t.
Initial impressions from the Solo Pros is great. The packaged product is pretty minimal with the headphones, charging cable, and a soft case included. I wanted a more durable case, but the one included does enough to keep them covered, even if it doesn't offer all-around protection.
The design of the headphones is also minimalist. To power them on and connect them you unfold them. Fold them up and they power down. The right side sports 2 buttons behind the cover plate at the top and bottom, and another behind the B. You only know the buttons exist because you read the instructions. The left side has one button on the bottom of the ear piece which is visible if you look for it. The only markings on the outside are the Beats logo on the ear pieces and the branding on the headband. I got the red ones and the color is eye popping and catching. True to fashion, the Beats Solo Pro gain attention from people.
While minimalist, the controls make sense once you start using them. The top and bottom buttons on the right side control volume, while the button behind the B allows you to pause, play, skip forward, skip backward, scan forward, and answer calls. The left button toggles the listening mode between noise cancelling, transparency, and off. Holding the left button for 5 seconds enters pairing mode. I got used to the controls quickly, and I like the feedback from pressing each button. There is a satisfying click and resistance that is just right. Many headphones miss the mark on this point.
Another area these get right is the speaker performance. From noise canceling to audio playback, these perform really well. With the noise canceling toggled off they block out a decent amount of noise, and Beats instructs you to use the “off” settings to maximize battery performance when you don’t need the active cancellation. However, when you turn on active noise canceling, they block out even more. I like to use them at my desk while working, and with the feature turned off I can hear my mechanical keyboard click under each keypress. When I turn on active canceling the click is extremely muffled, and while I can still hear a bit of it, it’s close to silent. More importantly, much of the ambient noise around me, like fans and AC, doesn’t exist when set to active canceling. I also really like the transparency mode. It uses microphones on each earcup to amplify sound around you so you can hear it with these on. This is great for conversations in the middle audio playback and it’s a feature I love using on a set of earbuds I own.
Whether noise canceling is enabled or not, I find the sound quality to be very good, with just enough bass without being bass heavy, and crisp, clean highs. They do lack some of the really deep bass I have heard on other Beats headsets, but I don’t mind that because the sound quality seems cleaner to my ears. There is no EQ setting to tailor the sound to your preferences, but I find their tuning to be very acceptable for my tastes and overall well balanced. If you like your music to have a deeper tone, however, you might find these lacking.
With these praise points and such quality pros in favor of the Beats, it’s tough for me to say I don’t care to use them often. But I don’t. My biggest reason for this is the fit. They feel like good quality overall, and the first time I put them on I kind-of liked them. But as I wore them more and for longer periods, I found my ears getting sweaty and my head became uncomfortable. The truth of the matter is, I have a large head and these things feel like they may be more suited to smaller noggins. Now that I have tried them for longer periods of time, I find that I can’t even wear them comfortably for more than 30 minutes or so before I start to notice the squeeze feeling from ear to ear. As a result, I find myself turning to other headphones or earbuds that I own anytime I put these on. I did test battery life with them and found them to actually produce slightly better time than the 22 hours advertised, but that test was definitely not on my head.
One other thing that annoys me is the targeting of the product specifically to the Apple community. I like the design aesthetics of Beats, but I am not an Apple user. I use Android and Windows devices, and all my charging cables are Micro-USB/C. However, the documentation makes it clear these are targeting Apple users with heavy emphasis on features for Apple devices being more prominent. For instance, they have Siri-specific hands-free control, and charging is done via the included lightning cable, not Micro-USB. These things annoy me as they tend to alienate my market segment. I also like being able to use one or two cables, max, to charge all my devices, and this lightning cable just adds clutter to the mix for one specific device. I hate that proprietary approach.
Overall, if you have an average head or high tolerance for the squeeze feeling with headphones, and you are invested in the Apple ecosystem, these might be a great fit for you. They certainly sound great enough to warrant a try. However, if you have a bigger head like I do, or want a more universal feeling from your headphones, look elsewhere. It’s a shame because I do want to like these, but I just can’t get comfortable.

This headset sounds really good. Easy to pair with iOS or Android. You just unfold it and it paired right away with iOS . On Android it was simple too. It comes with the lightning cable, soft case and clip. Noise cancellation is good and you can also allow sound to come through. There's no audio cable which I was a little disappointed but then realized we use Bluetooth either way when charging most iOS devices. The battery is supposed to last over 20hours with noise cancellation and over 40 with it off. The right ear has the lightning port, volume, FF, RW play and pause circular button. On the bottom left is the mode/ pair button.

First of all, I have several headphones including the latest AirPods Pro with ANC and transparency feature. And I have a mixed feeling about that headphone. So let's discuss about the newest entry from Beats who, for those of you that are not aware, is also owned by Apple.
The bad:
- Like AirPods Pro, no separate software to control the equalizer. You basically stuck with the one that Apple has, which, as much as I love Apple, I have to admit...suck. So, you basically stuck. No freedom to set up the music the way you like it.
- I have a medium size head, but this headphone is really tight on me. Maybe because it's still brand new, and eventually with more wear, it will get more comfortable. I hope. But if you plan to get this, you might want to try putting this on your head to make sure that you like the fit.
- The noise canceling feature is not the best one around. I practically has to put the volume all the way up if I want no sound from outside at all. During quiet music or when the music stop, I can still hear faint noises from outside.
- And that brings us to my next complain I have about ALL Apple headphone... the volume. I like to hear my music loud. With all Apple headphone, I basically has to put the volume all the way up. I may never need to have the volume higher than it's available, but I still like to have that option. But I guess with noise canceling feature, I finally have a headphone that satisfy my listening experience.
The good:
- A very stylish looking headphone that will put you in style. I love the color range that it's available. I am guy and I love the red color. But I'll be happy with any of the color that's available.
- As much as I don't think this has the best ANC, I still think this is one of the headphone best features. You have the transparency option which basically magnify the sound around you. It's a cool feature but I am not particularly a fan because to me, it actually makes it harder to hear.
- If you have Apple product, the pairing is a breeze. You basically has to "open" the headphone close to iPhone/iPad and the headphone will pair automatically. A very cool feature, especially if you like me, love everything about Apple products. So seamless and effortless. This is why I use Apple headphone even though there are better ones out there. Nothing beats the convenient of having this thing pair with your product automatically as soon as you turn it on.
- Turning on & off: You fold it, it's off. You "open" the headphone, it's on. Very cool. Again, very convenient and very seamless. You don't need to "feel" the headphone to find an on/off button.
- Music control on the headphone. The right side of the headphone is like a control center. You push the top part to turn the volume up and down to turn the volume down. You press the center part, the song stops. Press the center twice, skip a song Press three times, go back to the previous song. Again, cool feature. And because of the size, it's very easy to do all of those 'navigations'.
- I know I said that the headphone feels really tight on me, but the pad is made of a very soft leather and it feels good on your ear.
- 22 hours of battery with ANC on. 44 without. But if you have this headphone, why not take the advantage of the noise canceling. And 10 minutes charging equals to 3 hours playing.
- And the last: the sound. I hate the sound on Beats Powerbeat3. I can't imagine that Apple would release a product that's bad. The sound of the headphone is like you listening a music made with an empty can. I have Powerbeats2 which sounds so much better. I know Beats used to be known for its thumping bass sound. But I think since Apple took over, they overhaul the sound. This might not be the best headphone out there, but I really appreciate using this while listening to Al Jarreau or Rush You can hear all of those nuances that you would never hear from hearing a regular headphone. I feel that the bass is there but not overwhelming. It actually balances nicely with the treble. Listening to J Lo "Dance Again", you hear the thumbing bass but you still hear her voice really clear. Very nice sound.
In the end, I believe this will be my headphone of choice, especially if I want to just immerse myself completely in the music that I want to hear. The price might be a little bit steep, but if you can get it cheaper or on sale, and you like the fit, this might not be a bad choice.

Love these headphones. Completely sound proof and last a long time before needing to charge. Easily syncs to all bluetooth devices. Comfortable and has a really long range on when being far from synced device. There are so many things to like about these pair of headphones and of course a few items that not quite make them perfect.
1. One of the first things that I noticed is the they are solid. When you feel them in your hands, there is a sense of a well built product. The materials used in the head band are both flexible aluminum and hard quality plastic. The ear piece material looks leather like and the foam used in the ear piece is an essence of memory foam.
2. I love folding them up to turn on and off the head set.
3. The pairing to my iPhone was so fast, I had to double check they were paired!
4. I chose the matte dark blue color, which is sharp looking.
5. The sounds is so good, to a point where I look forward to putting them on to listen to my music! Let me just say, I have owned a number of quality headphones from big name brands, the sound rivals them, this includes sound cancelling.
6. The ANC is my favorite feature of these headphones. You can still listen to you favorite music and still be cognizant of what is going on around you. The button on the left ear piece allow you to switch back and forth from ANC to noice cancelling in under a second.
7. The controls on the right ear piece are very convenient and is effortless when you want to increase/decrease volume, answer phone calls, etc.....the push click to control is smooth.
8. The battery life if amazing. I can go days between charging and that's when I am talking, movie viewing, and of course listening to music.
9. Being an Apple product, there is zero problems from going from device to device connectivity. It just works!
10. Talking - the microphone on the Solo Pros are very good! Every person that I have spoken with comments, how clear they can hear me. I use these Solo Pros for WFH. I have not tested them in loud environments.
Almost perfect:
1. I notice at the 4 hour mark of using these headphones, my ears got fatigued. Keep in mind, these headphone are "On the Ears", so there is slight pressure for long term usage. I do have to take breaks throughout the day.
2. Are they worth the price? I found these Solo Pros on sale at the $200 price point. And I would say, that is a perfect price point for these Solo Pros, due to all the tech and quality built in!
All in all, I love my Solo Pros and highly recommend them for purchase!

Short Answer: GET THESE HEADPHONES!!!
I love beats headphones but I haven't had a pair in a while. I was debating between the Truly Wireless PowerBeats and these. I ultimately chose these and I'm so glad I did! First off, the color is beautifully neutral, which I love. Secondly, the sound is out of this world. The noise cancellation is great and they have a feature to turn off the noise cancellation so you can hear the surrounding noises. This is a great feature! Third, they are very comfortable. I can easily wear these for 2 to 3 hours without feeling any discomfort anywhere on my head. Fourth, switching over from one device to another is a breeze. Fifth, just opening the headphones from the folded position to turn them on is a fantastic and an easy to use feature. Lastly, the battery life is insane! The charge itself lasts about 3 or 4 days and it charges very quickly. One time they were at 18% and I put them on their charger for 5 or 7 minutes and when I took them off, they were at 95%!! They are a little steep in price but I'm expecting them to last for years and the quality is so good, the price is worth it.

Overall, these are great headphones! Before these, I had the Beats Solo 3 headphones which I liked very much but basically fell apart after a few years. I was torn between the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 II and the Beats Solo Pro. The Bose were a little more comfortable on my head and seemed to have a tad bit better high fidelity, however I thought the controls were more difficult to navigate and the price was higher than the Beats. It was hard for me to judge the sound quality of the Beats at BB because the Beats display samples were not set up very well causing the sound to keep shorting out. The Beats were more stylish, and, in my opinion, the controls were much more user friendly since all functions are controlled by the number of times you push the side panel of the headset, rather than finding your way around the small switches on the Bose. For that reason, but mostly due to the cheaper price, I purchased the Beats. When I got home and tried them out, I was amazed at the great sound quality which was hard to judge at the store. The tone was very balanced, and the volume could be raised very loud without any distortion. I mostly use the headphones while on the treadmill at the gym for about an hour. Even though most of the reviews I had read mentioned that they were too tight and less comfortable than other headphones, I did not find that to be the case. Perhaps if I wore them longer, I would have a different opinion. Although I can surely tell the difference when switching to noise cancelling mode, I don’t really use that feature. However, I DO tend to keep the transparency mode on most of the time which I really love. When they are on and someone wants to talk to me, I simply pause the sound and press the little button on the left earpiece to turn on transparency and I can hear everything without having to take the headphones off. The Beats charge super-fast and, even with keeping the transparency mode on all the time, they hold a charge for a very long time. There ARE a few negatives. First, as others have mentioned, it lacks a 3.5mm audio cable. If you have the need for one, you must purchase it separately. Because of this, I cannot plug the headphones into my gym’s built-in treadmill TV to hear the audio. Nor will I be able to use them on a plane. I can only connect to Bluetooth devices. The headphones have no on-off switch. Instead, they turn off and on by folding or unfolding them. While this is a somewhat good feature, I wish it also had an override button so they can turn off if I am wearing them around my neck for a period of time. I read that they are supposed to go into a lower power mode when remaining on without using them and even though I can always recharge them, it just bugs me that they remain on without being folded. Finally, for some reason I have pinched my hand a few times between headphone joints when unfolding them. This never happened with the Beats Solo 3s. In summary, I would highly recommend these. Note that various colors are sometimes cheaper than others. For example, the dark blue, light blue, and red are $30 less than the other colors. Also note that BB gives you 6 months of free Apple Music with the purchase which I am really enjoying!

- Battery life is pretty great, lasted me many days before needing to recharge
- They recharge very quickly
- They look great
The bad:

- Transparency mode is disappointing, it’s almost as if it weren’t there
- Noise cancelling is there, but I’ve tried better ones

I consider myself an audiophile, I've had alot of high end headphones over the years (in ear, on ear, & over ear) and for the price of $170 on sale Beats Solo Pro are incredible value. I will admit that these are hard to justify purchasing their original price of $300; they're not as comfy as the Bose 700 nor do they have their level of nouse cancellation, they don't have the wide selection of Hi- Res audio connections that the Sony wh-1000xm3 have nor its sound EQ and finally do not have the incredible sound profile of the Bang & Olufsen PX. HOWEVER, if you can get them on sale, then it would be hard to find better Bass heavy headphones with features such as ANC as well as a transparency mode along with instant connection to all apple devices.
They dont feel as flimsy or as cheap as the older iterations and theyve also increased the ear cup size thankfully so while they are still considered "on ear" and not "over ear" the larger ear cups are both more comfortable and create a better seal.
Technically speaking, Passive Noise Cancellation (along with over the ear design) is more effective than the Active Noise Cancellation that Beats Solo Pro has but personally I prefer ANC. If you're willing to sacrifice a very slight degredation in sound quality with ANC on, I think it is 100% worth it over having to deal with the downsides to PNC: Hearing your own footsteps/Breathing in your ears as well as the notorious pressurized air feeling.
I do believe if you are able to get these headphones for under $200 they are great value for Apple users first and foremost (instant connection with any Apple devices), for those who enjoy Bass Heavy sound and having the option to use ANC & Transparency.
*Do keep in mind they have no native sound EQ app or settings, they are "on ear" so most likely they will not cover or seal around your ears entirely, they are not sweatproof rated & like most Apple devices they use a lightning port to charge.*

Beats Solo but not Pro

Build Quality: I don’t feel like these headphones have a “pro” quality feel to them. When I look at the price of an item and the naming they used for the item as well as having experience with other items in the same category, I just don’t feel a strong quality build for something that is carrying a “pro” tag. They feel somewhat flimsy. The headphone adjustment on the right side seems stronger than the adjustment on the left side which worries me in the sense that they may wear out over time making adjustments quite difficult to stay in place.
Noise Cancellation: The noise cancellation is good but the adjustment of the noise cancellation I seem to be battling. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m using an android phone with the android beats app but there appears to be 3 noise cancellation modes on this set. 1.) Noise cancelling on – 2.) Noise cancelling off – and 3.) Transparency. I honestly can’t tell much of a difference between the transparency and noise cancelling on modes. It could be user error, or it could be defect but I tried this evening while I was cooking to turn on “transparency” (it was on in the app) but still could not hear my wife when she was talking to me. This to me makes it seem like noise cancellation is either on or off. No in between; Which one would expect an in between or some sort of other mode in a “pro” model set.
Battery Life: I can’t comment much on battery life as I have not put these through any sort of battery stress test. I listened to them for a couple hours after a full charge and they are currently sitting at 97% which is pretty good. I would need a more thorough battery test to give a hard number as to how long they last. I did notice on my phone there is a message stating “The beats app is running BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) in the background to connect to your Beats instantly.” I’m not sure if this is an adjustable feature from within the app or not but I will need to monitor the battery life on my phone given I am seeing a message about the app continuously running in the background in “some sort of mode”.
Features: I think this may be where the Solo “pros” are lacking. There really isn’t any features with this set. Some sets have a lift cup pause audio, or a cover cup pause audio. This set has a fold to power off feature which I just don’t find that useful. Most other “premium” sets auto shut off after a certain amount of time. I have also never been really found of folding headphones. I feel like they add a less premium feel to the build and the feature is not largely desired. At least not for me. It would have been nice to have built in some sort of instant pause feature like lifting a cup or covering a cup for pass-through noise cancellation. I mean after all this is supposed to be a “pro” set of headphones.
Comfort: This is my second pair of “on the ear” vs “over the ear” headphones and I have to say these do sit more comfortably on my head then the previous. They tend to hurt my ears after prolonged use but I figure if your purchasing “on the ear” headphones then you are aware they may become uncomfortable after a few hours of sitting on your ears. I prefer over the ear headphones and I’m not sure what advantages “on the ear” sets have over “over the ear” sets. I need to do my research but I still prefer to have an over the ear headset so my ears don’t get fatigued. This isn’t a negative in any way regarding this set as it is designed to be over the ear its just my opinion. But as far as an “over the ear” comfort level this is by far the best I have experienced yet.
Volume Level and Sound: This is probably my biggest negative downside to this set and I wish I had an iPhone or some other means of connecting to it to test this out. On my pixel 3 XL, the volume is limited. I can only go so high (which isn’t very loud). To be honest, it may be a safety feature but I prefer to listen to my music like 1-3 steps above what these don’t seem to go beyond. I have tried to manipulate this by adjusting volume levels on my phone and on the headphones but it seems like there may be a hard limit on just how loud these can go. The sounds quality is “just OK” the bass is lacking in a pair of “pro” headphones. I find the tones crisp and light and missing bass. If these were the regular beats and not labeled a “pro” set I could understand. But having a set of “pro” headphones regardless of the build quality, regardless of the way they feel on your head, should at least produce a “pro” sound. And these just plain don’t.
App: I don’t really see a need to download the app on Android as there is nothing other than pairing instructions, usage instructions, and a way to adjust the noise cancellation. There are no eq settings which is quite disappointing. There is no reason for me to ever open the app as even adjusting the noise cancellation features doesn’t seem to register sometimes on the headset.
Overall Opinion: My overall opinion is this headset has a lackluster build quality as well as sound and a lack of features compared to similar headphones in its class and price range. I wanted to love these but I don’t. I consider these as more of an entry level pair of headphones as opposed to the “pro” label. I don’t think the price justifies the build, feature, and sound quality of this set.

These are a good pair of headphones but not exactly what I was looking for. I love my urBeats3 but I wanted something wireless. Now, I haven't had over-the-head Beats since they first became popular years ago and from what I remember - I wasn't that big of a fan. However, these beats are pretty good. The sound quality was good and the build is nice and sturdy but for me, it wasn't loud enough. I like to blast my music on full volume and I found myself going back to my urBeats3 which are $60 compared to the $180 I paid for these. I ended up taking them back and trying out the Studio3 which are miles better. The Studio3 isn't as updated as these (chip wise I believe) but they do the same thing and sound better. The studio's were louder and had more bass. The studio's also covered my entire ear whereas these ones don't. If you're someone who doesn't like all that bass, doesn't like blasting music in your ear, then I definitely recommend these! The color selection is awesome, the build is great, and the sound is good for the right person! I learned that headphones aren't for everyone and it might take some time to find the perfect pair for you. Nonetheless, it's a pretty good product and Beats are always well made.
