Delivery Package was a little roughed up, I assembled the scooter and did what manual says , then I proceeded to give it a go, scooter wasn’t as fast as the ones on streets, scooter seemed to be making noises like it was manufactured wrong. All in all I say give it try and hopefully yours isn’t broken.

There are a lot of fun but I can't write it very far without it completely shutting off and the battery percentage going up and down so other than those bugs that need to be fixed it's a fun item but for the money you're paying it should work better than it does

The Bird One is my first electric scooter. It is a personal version of the rideshare scooters strewn about various cities, with mixed reactions (mostly from those who have never tried one, as most people that I witnessed scooting around had a huge smile on their face). Prior to getting this, I hadn't had a chance to try out any of the rental versions, though I had seen them around and was curious. I did have a folding kick scooter from the early 00’s when they first got popular, and as a kid I rode around on one that had the big bicycle style handlebars, and my daughter has a cheap aluminum frame kids scooter, so I was equipped with all I needed to know about riding one. The design is similar to the rental version, giving the scooter a bit of heft to it. The manual lists the weight as 38.6 lbs. A bell and light are included, but a mount for your phone (which is required to lock/unlock and sleep/wake) is only available as an 3rd party after-market item. The QR code mount takes up valuable handlebar real estate, which doesn’t make much sense given that you would usually only pair to your phone once, leaving little room for 3rd party accessories that typically mount to the handlebars. The literature boasts a 25-mile range. I took a 6-mile ride from my house to my office along mostly flat streets (Google Maps shows an elevation variation of about 3 feet), to see if I could use it for commuting. The 30-minute trip used around 32% off the battery when starting from a full charge, and the return trip took another 33%. Extrapolating this out would get me around 18 miles total for this charge, about ¾ of the estimated range. Perhaps shorter, more frequent trips would give better battery life due to the regenerative braking. Unlike many of the other kick-type e-scooters on the market, this model does not fold, making it difficult to transport and store. Depending on the size of your car, taking it on a road trip would either be cumbersome or not possible. Taking it on public transportation would similarly be discouraged. I would also not feel comfortable wheeling it into a store or other business, so leaving it outside is really the only option. The scooter is equipped with GPS tracking, and when the lock is engaged the brakes also turn on making it difficult to roll. If you do attempt to wheel it while electronically locked, the scooter emits a chirping sound and flashes the lights. Despite those anti-theft measures, I still would recommend using a proper bike lock and securing it to a stationary object. I went with a lock that came with about 10 lbs of hardened steel chain. The handlebars are at a good height for me, standing at 5’9”. I don’t have to reach down low or bend to hold them, nor are they uncomfortably high. The grips are textured to prevent slipping, but I would recommend gloves. The handlebars only turn about 45 degrees to either side (so no pulling any sweet bar spins or tail whips), and have a slight catch when they are centered. I’m assuming this helps prevent turning too much and going out of control, especially at higher speeds. However, the limited turning ability also means that maneuvering the scooter into or out from a closet from a narrow hallway is a difficult task. Even turning the scooter around in the other direction takes either a 5-to-7-point affair or a considerable amount of space. To do a quick turnaround in a tight spot, I’ve been dismounting the scooter and lifting it by the back of the deck, near the rear wheel, then pivoting the scooter on the front wheel while holding the handlebars. The deck its covered in some sort of rubbery material, to provide both grip and slight cushion from the bumps on the street. It is much nicer than the skateboard style grip tape. The deck conceals the battery, and has the kickstand attached. The kickstand itself is easily engaged and disengaged with a swipe of the toe. The app, at least on android, needs some serious work. It is used to lock and unlock the scooter, which engages the brake to make moving the scooter difficult but not impossible. Unfortunately, it tends to freeze up, resulting in some frustration trying to get it going again after locking it up outside. The app seems to keep data about the scooter cached so that if you check the battery while charging it may seem as though it didn’t change at all after a few hours, but closing and restarting the app shows that the scooter battery is full. There were many times when I thought I had put the scooter to sleep via the app, only to have it chirp at me while charging as it received unknown signals from my phone. Other times I would try to put it to sleep so that I could move it without having to turn it on and unlock it, and the app would swear up and down that it was asleep, but I could barely move the scooter with the electric lock and anti-theft chirping engaged. The ride itself is smooth despite the lack of a suspension system. I really felt like I was flying down the streets. The accelerator is on the right handlebar, pressed with your thumb, and is easy to push and hold down. When I first got on, top speed felt almost too fast, but after giving it a few goes around the block to get a feel for things it felt just about right. Not so fast as to feel dangerous, but enough speed to make you feel like you’re getting somewhere in a hurry. You still feel the bumps on rougher streets, grates, and rumble strips, but I’ve tried bending my knees and “pumping” the scooter like they do in the rhythm section of a BMX course to handle some areas without taking too many judders. All-in-all, this is a sturdy, smooth ride. I really, really want it to become my daily driver. It has the range to get me to work and back comfortably. As a condo dwelling resident of a major metropolitan city, it’s just not very convenient. Storing at home it is a hassle, as is taking it out of my laundry room and maneuvering it through doors and down halls. The fact that you are to avoid using the scooter during and after wet or extreme weather conditions, such as rain and snow, limits the number of days you could safely operate it. And even though there are some security measures, such as GPS tracking and electronic locks, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it out for any extended period of time, such as during work hours or overnight, even with a heavy duty lock and chain. I have left it locked up chained to a bike rack for short durations, like to the Post Office or a convenience store, but I made sure it was within sight the whole time. With the familiarity of the ride share scooters, I’m also concerned that people might see the logo and assume it was available for rental, and try to “pair” it to their app (since it uses the same app used for rentals and has a big fat ubiquitous QR code right on the handlebars) then get frustrated and take it out on the scooter. I guess what I really want is for personal electric vehicles to be the new normal, with more dedicated bike lanes and more parking (with charging stations), and not have to worry about theft or vandals. Until the day of this bright utopia, I’m hoping that riding this around will inspire others to take the plunge into getting a PEV to lower their carbon footprint and help normalize these devices. In the real world, the non-folding nature of this scooter really limits its usage, keeping it from something I would absolutely take anywhere and everywhere, knowing that I have options, and instead is something that I have to weigh the pros and cons to determine if the time spent locking & unlocking / time spent out of sight / security of location / round trip distance is worth it over driving. The scooter itself is otherwise amazing for pleasure cruises, or for puttering around your palatial estate.

Feel like a kid again riding this thing

The short review is this. Anything that can give me that childhood grin that reminds me of when I got a new bike as a kid is well worth it. And the Bird scooter is no exception. This is my first electric vehicle and I must pay its a blast. It was very easy to get rolling since it is almost fully assembled with very minor and easy set up to get up and going. You get everything you need in the box to get riding fairly quickly (Pun intended). Attach a part and start charging. Couldnt be easier. No complicated instructions or small parts everywhere to keep track of. The manual is well written with easy to follow steps with enough info to get you going without overloading you with too much. While charging its time to download the app, create an account, and pair it to your scooter. Had no major issues here connecting my Samsung phone. The app is well set up and easy to follow with a nice layout and plenty of features. After charging it was time to ride. Thankfully I had a bike helmet already so I was ready to go. It is so easy to learn and ride with controls that are second nature for the most part since they are similar to how a kids scooter rides with brakes and controls that couldnt be easier. I wasnt expecting it to be as fast as it is. But it really gets going. I mean I have a 2018 Suzuki GSXS 750 so I know theres really no comparison. But when you are upright like that it just feels faster. This is where my childhood grin kicked in. It is just plain fun, no other way to describe it. I was able to take a few nice long rides without ever even getting close to running out of juice. But just in case I always just reconnected to the charger when I got home so it would be full and ready to roll again next time. Maintenance is pretty straight forward. Just keep it clean, dry, and charged and you should be good to go for a long time. Time will tell as far as reliability, etc. So far so good with first electric vehicle. I wasnt too sure about how well something that runs on a battery would perform. Ive been one that didnt every think Id get an electric car. Not there theres much comparison but its opened my eyes a bit to that possibility in the future. Love this Bird scooter and am looking forward to my next ride, and the next, etc. etc.

I’m mostly unhappy with this purchase. It cost 1000$ with all the tax and shipping and it is definitely not worth the price. 1. ITS MAX RANGE IS LIKE 13 MILES, NOT 24! It’s hilarious that they think it can go 24 miles. I got stranded once when I used it for 12 miles, the battery ran out. 2. My bird is broken, it doesn’t sleep. When I try to put it to sleep it wakes up immediately and when I tried to contact customer service through the chat no one answered and I waited like 30 minutes. Emailing them takes forever as well so good luck getting in contact with customer support when you’re stranded. When they finally got back to me, none of their solutions fixed it 3. Sometimes my bird scooter does not go. I have to connect and reconnect my scooter multiple times until it starts. Customer service again doesn’t answer on the chat feature. 4. You can feel EVERY tiny little bump, even pebbles. 5. Again customer service SUCKS. No one has ever answered the chat for me, even when I was stranded. When you call it just says to email them and they take DAYS to email you back. If you’re stranded, you’re on your own. Which happens a lot with all the tech issues. Overall I do NOT recommend this scooter. Sure it’s stylish and it’s a sturdy scooter but with the sturdiness comes the heaviness of it. It’s like 40 lbs

Hey there - thanks for the feedback and it sounds like you didn't have a very good experience with your Bird One and our Support Team and I'm happy to give you my thoughts.

First, for the range of 25 miles, that's with ideal, flat conditions and without too much extra wear on the motor and battery. We always suggest to test out the full range given your current conditions before trying to push it too far, which will hopefully avoid anyone getting stranded. We're sorry to hear you had that happen to you and we're glad you're OK.

Second, we saw your emails and responded to each one within two hours, so I'm sorry if you feel like we didn't meet your expectations or help you as much as you thought we should have. We want every new member of the Bird Fam to have a great experience and we're sorry that didn't happen for you.

Thanks again for your feedback and for testing out a Bird One.

    Scooter will not run

I got the scooter in July and now it disconnects within 5 minutes of riding it. Called Bird customer service and they are almost none existant. I'm only able to talk to some one in the payment department via phone. I did the suggested the troubleshooting and it still will not run. It just stops like its not connecting properly or disconnecting from the power source. Battery is at 100% and app shows it's connected. Contacted support several times via app & email. I paid too much for this scooter for it not to work within 3 months???
