If you are looking for a way to keep all of your devices safe, look no further than the Bitdefender BOX. While older antiviral software, or hardware devices to protect your home don't protect smart devices like Google Home, door locks, etc., the Botdefender BOX handles everything.
The installation was easy, thanks to the option of being able to clone your network, meaning you don;t have to go to each individual device and reconnect it to a new netwrok. You can opt to use your existing WiFi router as well, but I did not try this setup; I used the Bitdefender BOX as my WiFi router.
The Bitdefender BOX is great because it gives you so much control and information over your WiFi and its connections. You can pause devices, opt to get notifications on your phone when new devices are connected to the network, and monitor network activity.
Finally, the Bitdefender BOX offers a wide array of parental controls. You can restrict usage times, devices, websites, and more. It is a great way to not just protect your family from laicious threats, but also to keep a better handle on the amount of "screen time" your children get.
Keep in mind that after the first year, there is a $99/year subscription fee for continued protection, but for the first year, and moving forward, this includes Bitdefender Total Security antivirus software for an unlimited number of devices.

I have been waiting to hook up the Bitdefender 2 until I received either my repaired or replaced Linksys EA9500 Router in order to test out the difficulty that some people have reportedly said to have had with the installation process. But since I still have yet to receive the router along with the numerous review's covering the setup of the Bitdefender 2 with a secondary router setup in Bridge mode, as well as falling behind on deadlines, I've decided to go ahead and set it up in a stand alone Router set-up in order to test the Bitdefender's WiFi abilities along with the user app to see if it could be used effectively with only 1 Ethernet port while most of our devices connected wirelessly. To my surprise after 2 weeks of almost all of our network being connected wirelessly the Bitdefender 2 Is not only holding it's own, but performing flawlessly with only a slight decrease in speed compared to the Linksys EA9500 tri-band wireless router speeds, for the one week it actually worked. I tested both routers two hour's after each had been setup but I did have to use two different ways of testing the speeds so I cannot be 100% sure of the accuracy, but am fairly confident that the Bitdefender 2 was only 12 mb's slower or about 10% slower than the Linksys. Which is much better than some of the professional reviewer's website's testing showed a 25% slow down when downloading large files. We have not experienced any noticeable slowdowns anywhere close to those extremes. Although we have lost a little bit of Wi-Fi coverage which has been only noticeable when sitting out on the deck and in the back yard but that will be fixed with the return of my router. But otherwise from streaming video's to my wife's music app's while she works from her home office through an access point connecting her to their VPN. And since I work night's and only occasionally get home early enough in the mornings to replay WWII in 7.1 surround, to my wife's dismay, mainly Friday morning's when I have all day to play game's on the Xbox One or streaming movie's from Netflix while the wife is working and still have not been able to create any kind of significant traffic to cause any stuttering, bottlenecks, slowdowns or any other kind of network disruptions.
As far as the initial set-up was a breeze and I had the router up and running in 15 minutes and the Bitdefender Central app works seamlessly with the Bitdefender antivirus app I have been using for a few month's. Then they have made installing the Total Security software very easy by emailing the appropriate link to your own email address from within the central app under each device and allows you to upgrade any and all device's as I upgraded all of our laptop's from the Bitdefender Total Internet Protection to Bitdefender Total Security and was very happy to see it extended our coverage time to include the unused time from the Internet Security to give me over a year and a half's worth of coverage before the yearly subscription comes due. Which Bitdefender includes the best antivirus protection for all of your devices plus giving you the piece of mind that everything in your home is protected including every little oddball device you can imagine all the up to every piece of your home entertainment system including your stereo receiver, blue ray player's, gaming system's, to whichever smart TV you could ever imagine.
It's the best protection against any malware, viruses, ransomware, and anything that a hacker could or will do if given the opportunity and this little device could have saved me hundreds of needless hour's of work repairing pc's that I built for people and all the other's I ended up fixing through referrals due to laziness or mostly from letting antivirus protection become outdated since when they paid for it, and they didn't ever see it do anything for them! Until eventually having some sort of problem usually in the form of the dreaded Blue Screen of Death or more commonly known as the BSOD! So I cannot recommend the Bitdefender 2 enough! If not for your own safety & piece of mind than at least for your family's safety and if that isn't enough then for God's sake do it for your poor computer tech guy who thanks to you will be retiring at 55 unless his heart explodes from unnecessary stress.

I love this product! With a few dozen devices currently interent connected in our home, keeping everything protected from outside threats is almost impossible on a device by device basis. However, the Bitdefender Box is a no nonsense way to protect all connected items in your house including computers, phones, tablets, TV's, streaming devices, etc.
The setup was fairly painless and the app was easy to use. Once set up, the Box goes through and detects all of your devices automatically and recommends setting up Bitdefender protection for devices that can roam outside the home network to provide protection when away from home.
I have noticed no effect on speed of my internet connection and network. I do recommend this for a home solution.

The Bitdefender - BOX 2 Smart Home Cybersecurity Hub is a solid solution for adding internet security to your entire home network. Initial installation is very simple and only takes a few moments. I ran into a bit of a problem because it turned out that my personal wireless router is one of the very few that does not offer AP or Bridge Mode settings. 2 of the 3 BOX 2 installation scenarios require this capability. This meant I needed to set up the BOX 2 as my primary router. It works fine in this mode and I had no problems. However, you may want to verify that your router DOES offer AP or Bridge Mode connectivity settings (again, most do).
Once set up, I was impressed with how it identified the devices on my network and automatically extended protection to them. For laptops and mobile devices, it wants you to install software locally on the device. This provides protection when away from your local network and is also necessary in order to implement Parental Controls.
Because of the hiccups I experienced, I needed to contact support. I found that, if you leave a message for a call-back, you will get a prompt response. If you continue waiting for phone support, you may lose patience before your call is answered. The call backs and email responses I received, however, were very helpful.
My primary complaints with the Bitdefender BOX 2 are:
- Parental Controls are not intuitive and I had to search the web to find out how to access and activate them.
- The filtering of inappropriate content works for individual sites but not for image or video searches. This issue is raised on the support forums.
Bottom-line: If your primary focus is internet security, this is a great solution for your local network and beyond. If your primary focus is parental controls, this is not the best solution. For parental controls, the options available with most recent smart routers are superior to what BOX 2 currently offers.

Didn't work well with orbi as access point. No option to disable wifi. Can only manage through app. App interface is awful. I do not recommend this product for advanced users. I gave it two stara because perhaps it may work as a barebones system for less advance users.

This is my very first security box. I was curious and now I think everyone should invest in one. Hubby is always working on documents and he has virus after virus, which made me think, someone or something is hacking into our systems. I'm all apple and he is all PC. Regardless, this box provide security. I myself like to download anything that looks cool or interesting and the uncertainty that comes with it. I never cared for paying monthly, yearly or any type of subscription for McAfee which is pretty popular but when I did buy new stuff a free trial came with it. cool but I didn't renew.
Installation took a solid 20 mins because I took my time and read through everything. reading is fundamental in cases like these. Notifications started to pop up on things being blocked. At first it was annoying then I realized, all of this stuff was getting through before. Malicious web pages or links in emails that were being opened and causing a lot of trouble was the biggest headache but all fixable.
I performed a full system scan and caught a number of issues in some of the computers. Depending on the size and speed of your computer and network, this scan can take minutes or at most an hour.
Not much support though for IOS devices. Box 2 doesn't recognize my static IP devices. For that, it lost a star.

Essential Security for a Connected World

Conventional anti-virus software is not no longer adequate in providing the necessary network security. Devices are getting dumber and hackers are getting smarter. What I mean is that more and more everyday devices are connecting to our home internet networks that have no operating system or system security software. They range from home security cameras, gaming consoles, toys and home appliances. This gives has added an outstanding convenience to our lives, but opens us up to severe security threats. Devices with no security can be taken over by hackers to exploit our network or other systems.
It's a scary connected network world, but thank goodness for products like Bitdefender Box. It provides a means to protect and monitor these convenient, but otherwise security vulnerable devices. It can assist in detecting vulnerabilities in your home network and provide suggestions to secure. Conventional ant-virus software cannot block all security risks and Bitdefender Box provides an additional layer of protection. It has the computing power to gather a base-line of your network and provide notifications when anomalies are detected. $250 upfront cost and $99 per year subscription may sound expensive, but it is well worth knowing you have the best network security protection available. The yearly subscription provides unlimited license for all of your connected devices. Bitdefender has always been a trusted leader in anti-virus software and they are bringing their same high standard protection to the multilayered cybersecurity realm.
Bitdefender Box has to have some complexity to provide the complex multilayer security needed. The directions could be intimating to someone that is not very tech savy. As an IT professional I believe the instructions are are as simple as they can be for such a powerful product. You will need to know how to change your existing router to bridge mode to add to your existing network. It can be used as a stand-alone wireless router but is not recommended. There are printed instructions and walk through directions as you configure on your mobile device through the Bitdefender Central application. All setup has to be done on a mobile device and most people are going to use their phone to monitor their system anyway. It is about the size of a normal router and looks polished anywhere you have to put it close to your router for a wired ethernet connection. If you need assistance, there is free technical support. I had no setup issues and did not have to use it. If your world revolves around a connection to the world-wide web, this device is as essential as your wireless router and the included Bitdefender Total Security Internet Security software will provide all the protection your network can get from external threats.

I never knew or the first Bit Defender Box, so can't compare this to the original. I can say the Bit Defender Box 2 is perfect for the smart home, where you have laptops, tablets, watches, assistants, TVs, switches and more all connected to the internet. You need the Bit Defender Box 2 to give you peace of mind that your home network is secure. Setup was relatively straight forward - although you don't make the mistake of download the Bit Defender Box app from the appstore, you need the Bitdefender Central App instead. It took me half a day to configure everything, mainly because I was going through changing my WiFi connection to the new SSID for the Bit Defender Box 2. The mobile app (on iOS) is quite powerful and gives you detailed stats on usage, devices, threats, etc. You can also setup safe browsing rules (great for monitoring your kids internet usage). A bonus of the Bit Defender Box 2 is it comes with a 1 year subscription to Bitdefender Total Security for all your devices (any device that can install software). System impact of the software was low (i.e. no slow downs, etc). You need to renew the subscription to the Bitdefender Box 2 every year. I do wish the Bitdefender Box 2 had multiple ethernet ports - but other than that, very happy and looking forward to seeing how it protects me over the next 12 months. Also want to add, if you have family members who are BAD at security (parents, siblings, etc) this is the perfect device to buy and setup in their home - so you know someone less tech savvy won't end up compromising their PC or your network.

I’ve used just about all types of antivirus and anti malware software but this is my first test of a hardware based protection system. To just call a hardware based antivirus/antimalware system does not do it justice. Think of it like an enterprise level firewall and router for all the devices in your home - mobile devices, pc’s and all connected devices ( including IoT devices such as cameras, locks even lights.) It is an impressive idea in a small package. Key points :
Set up -
The set up took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Very simple and straight forward. I did not like that it can be only set up from a mobile device but this is the way of so many vendors these days. Regardless, I liked the approach of the setup. You have 3 options, use your router from your ISP and clone your network, use your own router and install it as a bridge device or install it as standalone router with it’s own network. I chose to use it as a standalone router with a newly created network. I would not recommend it as your only network, I chose this option as a way to connect to a secure network for my PC’s. There is some network latency when this device is installed so I prefer to have a network for gaming and a network for my PC’s ( where my most sensitive data is i.e. Banking etc.)
Operation -
Once everything was installed, the app began discovering the devices I had connected to the network. After some odd behavior , everything ran smoothly. For some reason the app required I reboot my Mac before it listed it as secured ( I did it twice.) It also did not discover my Ipad until I backed out of the app and went back . I can tell you I have Bitdefender antivirus installed on the devices so maybe that had somehting to do with . Not sure , it is a minor quibble anyway. A major issue , which I have not be able to isolate, is that my Mac kept disconnecting from the new network internet and I could not reconnect. My Ipad worked fine but I have only been able to reconnect a few times after I waited a while. After a few minutes, I would lose internet. I would normally think it was my computer but since I can connect to my other networks with no issues, I think the issue is with the Bitdefender Box itself but I cannot tell.
Performance -
As a router, it is meh. It is AC1900 spec so it should be fine in most applications. It is MIMO with a 3x3 antenna array and dual band 2.4/5GHz. If you do not know what it means, it is not important in a buying decision. What I did see was average performance as a router with slight throughput degradation the farther I got away ( line of sight.) I live in an apartment and the contruction is tough on wifi. Once I got outside or in the far corner, I did see a drop. Not terrible but I can see a large home or older plaster/brick home causing some issues.
As a protection device, it is unbeatable. Obviously I could not test all malware, phishing and virus attacks but there are several websites that you can test various types of attacks and nothing got by the Bitdefender Box.
Overall , I like the idea but it is hard to get by that my Mac kept dropping the internet. I tried restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting and other tests. All were to no avail. I cannot say definitively it is the Bitdefender Box and I have not been able to test it on my other PC’s as yet. I like the idea and the design. In my opinion, it should never be used as your primary network, the router is just average and I am not sure the performance will be on par with ISP and your own router ( the Bitdefender Box only has 1 WAN port.) What I do not like is the cost, at $250 plus $99 per year after the first year, it is getting pricey for what you get. If I were Bitdefender, I would make a full feature router with multiple ports, a better radio and a lifetime subscription. Charge more for it, but make it so it blows the competition away. I am going to give it 3 stars based on I could not get it work properly on my Mac, the router and the cost. Hard to recommend because of my issue but don’t let my one experience sway you. Based on it being a security device alone, it is 5 stars. If you have security concerns, give it try.

I was an early adopter of WiFi, and was at the time working for a large software R&D lab. One of the items the security team insisted I install in my home was a standalone firewall. I've been relying on software firewalls for a number of years because of cost, but am glad to see stand-alone firewalls now available at a reasonable price. Of course, one of the key things about a standalone firewall is that you don't know how well it's working unless it fails. On this point, I'm relying on the testing labs out there to assume the Box 2 is doing its job.
The Box 2 can fit into your network in a number of ways. The way I chose to implement, and I suspect most others will follow, is using my existing router (Linksys WRT3200) and inserting the Box between my cable modem and the router. As all devices are connected via my router, this allows the Box to intercept threats before they can reach any device, including the Linksys.
Setup is reasonably straightforward, although I did encounter an issue when I switched my router to bridge/AP mode. Everything froze, but a call to Bitdefender support had me up and running in about 15 minutes.
Be aware that the Box, like its competitors, requires an annual subscription to the software. In the case of BitDefender, this includes not just the software for the Box, but unlimited licenses for all of your computers and mobile devices.
If you want (and really, you should want it) the added security of a standalone device between you and the bad guys, the BitDefender Box 2 is an excellent device to use.

I was a little unsure on what to expect of this product. It is the first of its kind that I have owned. In my household of 7, we use our internet connection for tv's, tablets, phones, and computers so we have a lot of devices. This product was easy to set up and I have had only a few issues since I received it a week or so ago. Getting each device connected to the Bitdefender Box was not easy but only once or twice after setup did a device become unconnected from the Box. The app is easy to use and whenever it stops a malicious url or a threat is blocked to a specific connected device I get an alert on my phone, which is nice. Overall, I wouldn't term it an absolute necessity but it makes my home network seem more secure, which is lovely.

It's always comforting, knowing that your wi-fi network is safe from intrusions. This product provides that comfort. It has recently been reported that smart TVs as well as other smart home devices are vulnerable to cyber attack. This products alleges to prevent those incursions. While I can't attest to the validation of those claims, I do appreciate having the ability to monitor every device currently connected to your network. As well as the ability to remove them from it.
Setup for the Bitdefender BOX took about 10 minutes, and was relatively uneventful. The one snag I ran into was rectified without having to call customer support. While extensive network knowledge isn't prerequisite, it is good to have.
The Bitdefender apps/software are the driving force behind this device. The app allows you to connect and configure protection for your devices. I installed the app on my cell phone and tablets (I did not install the software on my laptops because I am happy with my current protection, and apparently, the two can not coexist on one machine). The apps quickly scanned my phone and tablets for vulnerabilities, and going forward, will protect them from potential attacks.
After installation, a speedtest did reveal some slight degradation in my internet speed, but the device did not appear to have any conflicts with my VPN.
The product includes one free year of protection. After that, you are required to pay for a subscription, or all of your protection ends: both software and hardware. Then you are stuck with a modern looking paperweight (although, it will still be available for use as a router. But, your current router is probably a better device than this one).
While I am not wild about the concept of forking over a pretty big chunk of change for a product, then paying more money in order to use it, this could possibly be a worthwhile product if you fear that you could be the target for a cyber attack, or prefer an extra layer of security. It's too soon to tell if it'll be worth renewing my subscription after my free year expires. In the meantime, I would tentatively recommend this product.

I installed the Bitdefender - BOX 2 Smart Home Cybersecurity Hub into my existing network as a pass-through devices since I already have a heavily configured router. It was much easier to install and configure tat I expected. I has many features and has already blocked 1 attack. It scans for: malware, Phishing, Fraud, PUA, Untrusted, Dangerous website, Network Attack (blocked on for me), Privacy Threat, Botnet Behavior and Unusual Behavior. I gave the device only a four because I really don't know how it actually does these things. For example my Malware Bytes blocked malicious sites and malware during this time that this device did not.

The BOX 2 is great for home and small business application. It provides superior network protection, guarding against IoT, Computer and Mobile attacks. It is managed through a centralized app that includes parental controls. The user is provided with unlimited access to Bitdefender software (requires an annual subscription after the included first year) for deployment on networked wired and wireless devices.
It lacks some router features and has only one available ethernet port for connecting a device if you are using the other port for connecting to a device like a cable modem. I hooked my BOX 2 up to a second router with 8 ports to accommodate local hardwired equipment.
The Bitdefender BOX 2 is an evolution of the original BOX and has a great track record including high ratings for anti-virus. It updates itself and evolves to meet new threats. Nice work!

I’ve had this set up for 3 days now and as far as I can tell, everything seems copacetic.
Set up was easy using my iPad downloaded the app, followed the included instructions, and was up and running quickly.
Honestly, I can’t tell any difference in how my network functions with the Bit Defender. It is just as speedy as before, and no noticeable issues. So I assume that means everything is ok.
I will probably be able to really give a more thorough report after using this for a few months, but as of now all seems well. I’d certainly recommend giving this a try.

The Bitdefender Box 2 is a product that is designed to protect all of the devices in your home, including home automation gadgets and other usually not secure appliances. In this regard, it works very well. Getting there was a challenge.
As with most devices these days, the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. There is a single page, double sided brochure that has the steps required to install the Box. Installation of an App is required, Bitdefender Central, which I proceeded to do on my iPhone. You are stepped through activating the Box, and then it is time to decide how you are going to connect the box to your network. They have 2 scenarios, neither of which really explain what is happening, and neither fitting my use. After several calls to the tech support, and determining what this box is expecting, and what it is providing, i was able to get it installed. Here is what I learned.
My network consists of a DSL modem, providing DHCP to my internal network. I have a switch that then feeds other devices, plus 3 Apple Access Points. The Box creates its own network with DHCP. The box must be between the modem and the switch. The modem still needs to provide DHCP, but is only needed to give an address to the external port of the Box. This means that everything internal to your network gets a new address, any forwarding rules need to be recreated, and any non-DHCP devices have to be manually readdressed. Also everything is double NAT’ed to the internet. If you didn’t understand any of this, and you have anything but a simple network, you may have difficulty in getting this installed. It also can provide its own wireless network, but I did not test that.
It has now discovered 66 devices that it is protecting. For IOS and OSX and I assume other operating systems, you can install software that will also protect your device while off your network. The Bitdefender Central software shows all activity, how many threats that have been blocked, and devices that need attention. It discovered that a device is vulnerable to a Denial of Service attack that I assume it is now protecting, but it isn’t clear. It has also blocked 110 links to suspicious URLs from embedded graphics in emails that my wife gets. So I guess it is doing its job.
Overall, a decent product once the original installation is correct.

After three failed attempts at setup I was tempted to call the tech support number but then I realized I am supposed to be tech support for a number of people so I refused and kept trying. After an error hinted that my phone was attempting to connect with cellular data instead of my Wi-Fi I gave the setup a try on my trusty old Galaxy tablet. Voila in minutes the Box was setting up a mirror of my Wi-Fi through the Box. As of this review my two Google home units both connected to it easily with no trouble, automatically. Whether the rest of the house connects to it seamlessly will remain to be seen. It is not really clearly explained how the Box protects your devices but I'm assuming it presents a firewall that prevents hacking from the outside. I'm only giving it three stars for two reasons: the awkward difficult setup on my trusty Moto phone that never did work, and the apparent marketing gimmick of trying to sell bitdefender antivirus to every device you have connected to your Wi-Fi. There is a free 30-day trial for all of that but I figured why bother if I don't plan on buying the subscriptions.
During the setup you can opt to either run all of your Wi-Fi through it or set up a separate secure access point or set it up to mirror your current access point

Complete Protection for Home Connected Devices!

Device / Privacy protection is number one requirement for many users. As we are moving more into internet things, it is important that all our smart home devices are protected at most. The challenge most of the protection software comes with 3 users license and unlimited licenses are bit pricey. Also, lack of support for various devices / operation systems including mobile OS and no protection for internet connected things such as TVs, Receivers etc.
Bitdefender - BOX 2 Smart Home Cyber Security Hub has solution for all of these. The design is sleek. Setup is quick and easy. Download the Bitdefender App either in iOS or Android and login with existing account or create a new account. It can be configured either with existing modem and act as router or it will work as bridge mode with existing modem / router. There is a 24/7 support number provided if any issue arise during installation.
Once it is connected to the network, it will scan all connected devices within the network. It will provide information about ongoing events and will help to prevent security breaches. Since all the devices are connected with Box Wi-Fi, my entire home devices are protected rather than few devices. It will block all suspicious links and sites. It is easy to unblock the links in the app.
In current world, it is important to protect all of our data as most of us store our contents in cloud like Dropbox, Box or OneDrive. Also, many of us are using password safes to store all our passwords. If the network is not protected, it is possible that we might lose all our data including financial information.
I am impressed with the concept and design of Bitdefender Box 2 Smart Home Cybersecurity Hub. I highly recommend this product to provide full home protection for connected devices.

The BOX 2 is a big step up in price from the original version; however, if offers enough additional punch to offset that difference. In addition, the first year subscription to the protection service is included.
With 3 options for installation, it can work with your existing ISP provided router, your personal router, or as a standalone.
Installation is very easy to a point. After what appeared to be successful installation, I discovered my 3 Amazon Echos and attached smart plugs were no longer connected to my network. To resolve this, I called Bitdefender's tech support. What a positive experience! The call was quickly answered, and the tech rep that I spoke with was excellent. He guided me through a new set up of the device and stayed with me during the steps for getting my Echos back on line. Also, it picks up new devices as they come on line. This is important because, while you can easily install virus protect for laptops/tablets/etc., there are many other devices that connect to the internet that you can't protect that way. They can be protected by the BOX 2.
The BOX 2 is not perfection and can be a bit of a challenge getting it up and running, but I would recommend it be considered for all-in-one protection, especially if you have or plan to have smart home devices.
