Love the top end and the bass is all that and then some. The 606s2 merges well with my system, looking forward to getting the right amp and using my avr as a pre pro only as i want to bring out the speakers full potential. In short in very happy with the bowers Wilkins 606s2 and believe it is well worth the cost

Bowers & Wilkins 607 S2 25th Anniversary Edition Bookshelf Speakers provide affordable audiophile performance at $699 for the pair. They are best-in-class to my ears, an investment in listening pleasure for decades to come. They don’t wear out, but tend to get better with age. Billed as “entry level,” the sound is anything but. **ABOUT THE COMPANY, THESE SPEAKERS** Bowers & Wilkins is a revered British speaker maker. This series is an update to their original 600 Series. These are two-way speakers with 5-inch Continuum cone mid-range woofers and 1-inch aluminum dome tweeters. Bass is ported to the rear, ideally within about six inches of a reflecting wall behind it. Translated, this means crisp, clean highs and big, booming lows. The design layout provides a rear port directing bass from the cabinet to the wall behind the speaker. Placement is everything! **EVALUATION METHODOLOGY** A 7.1-channel system is in place, fed by a Pioneer A/V receiver – a pair of front mains, a center channel, a pair of front surround speakers and a pair of rear speakers, plus a hefty subwoofer. Add them up to get seven speakers, plus the subwoofer equaling 7.1 channels of sound. A different branded pair of bookshelf speakers are in place up front as well as the center channel seen in my photos, and including the pair of very large floor-standing speakers seen in my photos. These behemoths are self-powered with 1000 total watts of combined excellence. Tweaked for my ears and those of my other listeners, we are accustomed to the sound from the existing system, so substituting these new B&W bookshelf models was going to be interesting to say the least. As with most modern A/V receivers, the Pioneer features auto setup using its own plug-in microphone on a long cord. Through its menu, the size of each speaker in the system can be designated. Next, the microphone is placed in the center of the listening area between two listener’s seats. And then, a press of the button tells the receiver to emit tones through each speaker. Listening to the sounds, it deduces the distance from the receiver and the nature of the sound that is detected in order to set the sound parameters just right. We had to decide how these B&Ws would be deployed. I knew we wanted them up front, but where? We tried them as front mains, and then as front surrounds. In all cases, the big speakers were decommissioned so as to let the B&Ws shine in comparison with like-size non-B&W bookshelf speakers up front. The B&Ws were immediately heard as “bright” yet not too bright. The highs were perceived as crisp and clean, even if a bit too sharp. Not a bad thing, just an observation. Reconfiguring again, we re-did all the settings with the B&Ws in place as front surrounds instead of as front mains. The receiver emitted its tones and made its settings. Ah, this was just right. Now, time to let the new speakers “burn in” for a few days, for a total of about 25 hours. Recalibrating, the B&W’s sound mellowed out a bit. They are shipped with a pair of foam plugs to be used should the bass be a bit too much out of the rear-facing ports. In our setup, we did not feel the need to use the plugs. To each their own, you know. Listening to source material was the next part of the evaluation. We chose to listen first to the Eagles Live from the Forum MMXVIII, a familiar 2018 CD with words and music to favorite old songs on this newest release. We cranked it up, listening to tracks so familiar to our ears whether playing in the car or at home through the originally-configured big system. Subbing in the pair of B&W speakers in the two positions mentioned above, we listened and agreed that the new bookshelf speakers were best placed as front surrounds. This placement choice was confirmed and reconfirmed through trial. Next up, we needed to watch a familiar movie known for great sound. We chose the 2007 action shoot-em-up with Bruce Willis, Live Free or Die Hard in 5.1 sound. Good choice. They blowed things up real good in that movie, shown on an 84-inch OLED screen in glorious 4K UHD. We let the Pioneer convert to 7.1-channel surround sound, and it did just that so well. To finish the comparison several days later and after becoming comfortable with the performance of the system as it was, we once again disconnected the B&Ws and put everything back as it was before introducing these fine Bowers & Wilkins speakers. Not a fair fight in this configuration because the big, powered floor-standing speakers hide a total of eight mid-range, four tweeters and one large bass speaker. It is a fair fight with the other pair of similarly-sized bookshelf speakers. The final trial was with just these Bowers & Wilkins speakers in a simple stereo sound setting. Once again, we employed the receiver’s automated setup using its plug-in microphone. Just two small speakers, please. Done. With nothing but the B&Ws, we listened to favorite tracks on the Eagles album. Then, we did it again with just the other bookshelf speakers, which cost less than the B&Ws. **CONCLUDING STATEMENTS** Mumbo-jumbo and tech speak aside, the anniversary edition Bowers & Wilkins speakers were described in my test setting as amazing along with other superlatives. Our source material, both the Eagles CD and Die Hard movie, among a few others, were exciting to hear with the addition/substitution of the Bowers & Wilkins anniversary 607 S2 speakers. We loved the crisp and clean highs, the well-defined lows and that balanced sound out of the B&Ws. Regardless of your setup, be it stereo or multi-channel home theater deploying Bowers & Wilkins anniversary 607 S2 speakers will be a plus to the system. To OUR ears, well, we love these speakers. Open them up and let them shine. Bravo Bowers & Wilkins. **TRY THEM ON** If possible, audition them at your nearest Best Buy and do your own comparison against others in their sound room OR take our word for it, purchase a pair and audition at home. Your ears will tell you if you agree with our assessment or not. Sound is such a subjective determination, so don’t be afraid to disagree. It’s your ears, your money. Not that users will need to exercise it, these speakers are covered by the manufacturer’s five year warranty.

These Bowers & Wilkins 607 S2 Anniversary Edition Bookshelf speakers are a treat to listen to. I set these up on my 5.1.2 home theater run by an Onkyo TX-NR555. I did run these Bi-Amped as I do with my standard floor standing speakers. The build quality on these speakers is outstanding. There is a 1” Decoupled Double Dome Aluminum Tweeter, a 5” Mid-Driver that is made of a woven material, and a Rear-Firing Flow Port for bass. The Grills are magnetic which offers the easiest option for grills on or off while retaining a clean front face. There are dual terminals that allow for bi-amping or bi-wiring, but they do come with terminal jumpers installed. The connection terminals are solid and work perfectly with my banana plug connectors. The speaker cabinets are solid, heavy, and built very well. The sound on these speakers, as with any others, does take a little time to open up. However, once it does, you know you are listening to a great pair of speakers. The sound is crisp and clear with a well-rounded sound stage. One really nice thing that is included is a pair of foam plugs for the rear Flow Port to help with bass reflex depending on how close the speakers are to a wall to optimize the sound to your space and speaker location. I have used these to listen to several different genre of music and also to watch movies. There is a brightness to music that is very pleasing to listen to and for movies, they sound robust. I was extremely pleased with the quality of sound on these speakers. I would really love to set these up as a 2 channel running off a turntable and amp for dedicated listening as I really think these would shine for that application. I played around with different volume levels and was pleased regardless of where it was at, though I preferred them at a higher volume. Overall, there was a lot of thought and design put into these speakers and it shows. They sound fantastic, are built very well, and look great! I know that I will enjoy these speakers no matter what I use them for and would recommend to others looking for a great pair of bookshelf speakers.

Huge Sound in a Little Package

I have never had the pleasure of owning a set of Bowers and Wilkens speakers before. Being a home theatre enthusiast, I do have familiarity with the brand. When I had the opportunity to grab a pair of these 600 series Anniversary bookshelf speakers, I didn’t hesitate. Everything I have heard about B&W speakers are now realized after spending a few weeks with this set. It all began with the unboxing: From the moment you open the flaps and begin to unpack it is clear B&W cares deeply about their products. The speakers are wrapped in thick foam. The removable, magnetic grill is wrapped in an additional layer of plastic to protect it from breaking. The grill is made of very thin plastic framing with acoustic mesh wrapped around it. B&W kept these lightweight as to not harm the sounds when installed. B&W also includes 2 foam plugs which are used to dampen the bass response from the rear output if these are being set close to a wall and reverberate too much bass. There is also a set of rubber nubs for feet, or spikes for mounting to speaker stands (B&W has their own that accompany these speakers but sold separately). The overall construction of the speaker box is solid. It feels like (though I would never try it) you could drop this from a two story window and they would survive.. The 1 inch twitter is immediately noticeable when looking at the front. The words “600 series” wrap around the top while “Anniversary Edition” round out the bottom and is finished in a brushed nickel like metal. There is a high tech metal grill that covers the actual twitter itself. The 5” midrange is also pretty special. It is built using a proprietary “Continuum” which is woven to produce clarity and power. It is also a beautiful shiny silver color and really pops when the covers are off. Setup is straight forward. These require the use of an amplifier or receiver to power them. I connected these to my Denon receiver’s left and right front channel, capable of producing 150 watts RMS, more than enough power to drive these at the 100 watt RMS spec. I connected them using 14 gauge wire with banana clips. I chose to focus my energy on only these two bookshelf speakers, so I eliminated all other speakers in my setup. I change the receiver over to stereo. I placed each speaker about 12” away from the wall to give them ample breathing room. For this, I did not install the plugs during the corse of my listening experience. Now to what really matters, the sounds. I started with some music piping over bluetooth from my iPhone to the Denon. Not the best audio quality I know, but it’s a solid reference point for me since this all of the music I listen to comes from Apple Music pipped over the iPhone, most of the time using bluetooth. With the audio set at about 10% I began with some instrumental Jazz, the twitters were immediately noticeable as they sonically reproduced the horn and other brass instruments as if I was sitting in a concert hall. Sound was clear, crisp, but not overly sharp. It felt well balances and gave the illusion I had far more than just a pair of bookshelf speakers running in stereo. The sound reverberated off of the adjacent walls as if I had a 10 speaker array. Cranking up the volume to around 30% presented more of a “concert” experience and became almost too loud to comfortably listen to. Typically I run my older speakers at around 40% to get about 20% the volume I am hearing now. Truly amazing. After the Jazz I throw on some hip-hop. I honestly had to check to verify my subwoofer was powered off… these guys push so much bass response for not even having a woofer, it’s incredible. Bass never sounded like it wanted to bottom out, it just got softer during parts that really needed a subwoofer. Vocals remain sharp and distinguishable. Switching to rock was no surprise, amazing. Guitars, drums, vocals, all sounded individual and reproduced with absolute precision. I could easily replace my entire 5.1 setup with just these 2 speakers and it would be a vast improvement. Switching over to movies was also a joy. With the ability to throw audio against the walls the way these do, I felt a sense of realism and depth that I have not experienced before even with a full array of speakers. Truly remarkable. In conclusion, these are worth every cent of their asking price, and Franky, after hearing them, they are worth more! As someone who is more of a videophile than an audiophile, these are converting me. I have paid more attention to small sound details that I ever have before. I’ve been playing with small placement adjustments to fine tune my soundstage and getting noticeable results. I recommend these to anyone wanting to get into a high end audio experience or even for folks who have been in that world for a long time. B&W shows its sound heritage and legacy with these truly anniversary edition speakers. I cannot wait to add more B&W to my setup for an even more immersive experience.

B&W did a really good job with these. I’m very impressed. I replaced two Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 1000s with these on my 5.1 system. They are beautiful to look at. Pretty compact in size compared to other bookshelf speakers. They actually fit perfectly in the tight spot I had my Pro Monitor 1000s in. Very crisp highs and decent amount of bass as well. Ive been working to break these in listening to music in 2.1. I would really like to pair these with the B&W center, I feel that would round out the system well. When I unboxed them, I noticed they had red and black plastic plugs in the contactor holes. They DO come out and are not that hard to remove. I used the edge of a knife to pry them up a little and then they came right out. I use banana plugs so I was a bit worried when I saw the plugs but once they were removed the plugs work great. I would highly recommend these speakers whether you want a 2.1 for music or 5.1+ for surround. They are absolutely amazing. Another thing I will mention is to make sure you get a good quality amp to push these bad boys!

This is review of B&W 607 S2 Anniversary Edition. Not being a deep knowledgeable of audio and related subjects, the pair of speakers does drag in the listener into immersive experience. These compact but not that small, with all the technicality inside of each box, it generate crisp and sharp note that can be distinguished as go deeper or the music and movie. Before going in details of the sound experience, need to touch bit on the process of setting up and considerations. First the cable to use for felt not minor thing. Based on short research and for expectation of best outcome, have used “AudioQuest 5' Single Rocket 33 SBW –With Silver Bananas” which I had to purchase and took time for delivery in the midst of time of Pandemic we live. Secondly, the speaker connector come with cap for each one for which house the banana connector the cap need to be removed. In this minor detail, B&W could have done better to make ease to remove it. Had bit of hard time removing 8 caps. And considering it is B&W, the Red/Black indicator could be on the fixed base of the plug rather the removal cap. Third, the connectors for speaker wire are installed pointing to upward. On this, maybe it is preference of each user but I would preferred the pointing downward for better cable management. Now to the sound experience based on Conventional Connection type suggested by B&W in its manual. I tested two different mode. First connected to Sonos Amp, second time connecting with A/V Surround Marantz SR6011. Connected with Sonos Amp, listened to Vanessa Mae playing Romance n.2 in F for violin and orchestra op.50, streaming from home network storage. As comparing purpose, played simultaneously in 2 of paired Sonos 5 2nd version. In the beginning what was impressive of 607 S2 was that first kick of violin and rest of orchestra playing that were crips and sharp, identifiable string as the note move alone. This impression made me feel sound from Sonos 5 was less clear despite of its own strength of hardware that differentiate from bookshelf speaker. Then tried whit HD Radio program from Sonos that played Gorillaz Momentary Bliss, Classic music Ciano c-moll, BuxWV 159, Totally opposed notes. The result was fantastic for my little experience. Sharp music and voice, each instrument separately but all together but sill crips sound that does differentiate with Sonos 5. Second connection was with A/V Surround Marantz receiver. For this, for proper description, I only connected the bookshelf sparks to the receiver. And movies and videos are from Apple TV, Netflix and Youtube. Hence heavily based on internet connection based contents. First tried with videos of surround sound testing from YouTube. Viewed Doby Digital Surround testing video, stereo testing video, among some others. Despite of being only stereo speakers, the surround sound perception was more than acceptable. Enough to say the rest of speakers wouldn’t be needed if one is not keen to very detailed sound effect. And this proven to be true as watch 6 Underground, the voice does feel to come from front, while in the car chasing and conversation happening with the car at almost the beginning, can feel the sound effect surrounding. Definitely is not the same with all the rest of speakers for 5.1, but what is able to produce with two speakers connected to the receiver in the small room definitely B&W 607 S2 has made presence and impressed. In short, not being technical expert on how two way and everything within works, and aside of minor details that would have been better considering It is caliber of B&W, but the end experience does make one to be immersed wether listening pop, classic, watching movie or just Youtube.

The B&W 600 series anniversary edition bookshelf speakers are excellent by themselves especially with music, but they really benefit and come alive in a full HT setup with a center channel and subwoofer with rear surrounds in a 5.1 or better setup. The midrange and clarity on these speakers is amazing, crisp, and punchy with none of the lingering lethargic drop off you get from cheaper speakers. The tweeters also do an excellent job of carrying higher pitches especially with music. They do leave something to be desired in terms of bass and LFE, so you will definitely want to use a subwoofer with these speakers in a 2.1 or 5.1+ set-up. Center channel was negligible to me. The midrange and clarity carries dialogue well enough in movies and is better in stereo for music, but the center channel obviously gives more focus to the dialogue especially if you have a good center speaker and use an HD audio format that makes good use of directional sound. I will personally keep these speakers as part of my basement Home Theater setup, and eventually upgrade my center and subwoofer to match the quality of these B&W bookshelves. All in all, this is a great pair of bookshelf speakers at a very affordable price. You can also dress them up with the speaker stands to make them really pop visually as well as acoustically.

Once you hear them you’ll understand! This is my first set of B&W speakers and the sound they produce is exquisite! I have a Denon 2700h with an older Kef kht 3005 system and I replaced the fronts with the B&W’s and the detail and crispness they produce is unbelievable. With movies I can hear so much more clarity than I did with the Kefs. Where these really shine for me though is music. Running these as a 2.1 system with the Kef sub, I was amazed at the difference. Listening to Coldplay Magic or Yellow, the clarity and brightness of the speakers blew me away. You feel like you’re hearing the music as the musicians intended. Run these with a good sub and these speakers belie their small size. I now plan to get the center and either another set of these or the 606’s to replace my other speakers. Hearing is believing and It’s easy to understand why Bowers & Wilkins has the reputation they have!

My first experience with Bowers & Wilkins products. My first impression is these speakers are high quality and deliver very clear sound. I connected them to my Sony 7.2 AVR Model: STRDN1080. The two Bowers & Wilkins speakers replaced my old ones and for the first try, I realized the clarity of sound to the extent I can hear music that I couldn't hear before. the front mesh is removable which makes the appearance very elegant. Great quality of sound!!!

Tremendous stereo imaging in a small space, the bass is very tight--and I have them up within an inch or two of the wall. I have never heard response from a tweeter like these speakers have. To my ear, the crossover is about perfect without a dead spot. IF I play a heavily compressed mp3, the treble can sound splashy, but if I have a properly compressed 128K, I do not believe I hear anything but a high quality playback. Replaced some 20 year old JBL's with a 5" woofer--they served me well, but these, oh my, these deliver a tremendous quality sound in a small office. The imaging listening to classic jazz or blues puts the featured performer squarely between the two speakers in the center point with a presence that is almost like headphones. They do require more power to bring out the best in them. Where my little amp used to push the JBL's moderately well at 4 on a 10 scale, I have to dial the amp up to 6 or 7 to get comparable loudness, but the detail and the imaging are worth the extra power. I will likely invest in a new class D amp to feed these better, cleaner power, but I know it will be worth it because very few speakers in my experience have offered this degree of detail and near perfect stereo imaging.

Absolutely phenomenal. The highs, the mids, the bass, the size, the looks. It is near a perfect speaker. As someone who is a bit sensitive to high frequency sound, these have excellent detail without being too bright as some would say. Mid range/vocals, simply amazing. Bass is actually surprisingly good, for such a small driver and cabinet it can definitely deliver satisfying bass. Granted not enough to go without a sub for my taste, so I’ll be getting an SVS subwoofer to supplement these. Another thing is the imaging. These blew me away as it sounded like there was a dedicated center speaker right in front of me. Not only that but sounds that move from left to right/right to left actually sound like they are moving right in front of you. And of course I personally think these look fantastic. They ooze class and high end, even though they are considered B&W’s entry level bookshelves. So overall, 10/10. Only warning is that you do need a powerful amp to drive these. Something that can drive as low as 4 ohms.

I got them for a great deal on Open Box and they are great for an office speaker. The tweeter is not as good as the 700 series or 800 series, but they are fine. If you get them on Open Box they are good value, better than any other speaker at this price. Better than Klipsch for sure.

Coming from the good and clear sound Presonus e3.5 bookshelf (not for heavy metal), these 607s are a big jump in power and that is very impressive considering the size of the speaker specially the bass, throw any thing you want to this little guys and enjoy because in going to sound great specially if you come from a decent speakers, some people are going to find the treble high depending on what are you listening but you could equalize to your taste by software or an amp with that option, I pair these with a SVS soundbase amp (150w @ 4ohm 80w+/- @ 8ohm) the result is very good.

    B&W 606 versus 607 Anniversary Edition- 607 wins

I bought the 606 after having read several professional reviews that this model was best speaker for 2020 at this price point. I listed to them many hours - after break in period and thought I had found my perfect speakers. My wife said they were too big for my study area adjacent to bedroom so I ordered the 607. I listened to them for many hours and even went back and forth with 606 during same songs. Here is my take - 607 have better imaging and tighter mid-bass. Easier to listen at lower volumes. Yes 606 have more bass but the soundstage is not as in front and vocals are behind the instruments. In contrast the 607 put the vocals upfront and the lesser bass is not a detriment in a small listening area.Hard decision but nod to the 607's -they are very musical and easy to listen to whether it is classic rock, reggae, funk or current hip-hop/rap. This small bookshelf is truly amazing for a 2 channel system! Kudos to Best Buy that allows one to allow thorough listening and make the right purchase for your situation. BTW - Both speakers were powered by Marantz PM7000N Integrated Amp listening to CDs on a Denon disc player and streaming albums and playlists on Tidal.

Very clear and dynamic sound. Surprising amount of bass for such a little speaker.

Good speakers for the size/cost. I ultimately swapped them for 707's as I liked the look of those better, and they sounded better too. They are more expensive though, so if these are within the price range you are looking at, definitely give them a shot!
