We purchased this printer 3 years ago for friends. The printer is very easy for them and has continued to be trustworthy. No problems or issues and the ink that came with the printer is still printing nice copies. We are so happy with their experience that we bought this model for ourselves this year. Easy set up. Pretty quiet printing and it is a nice size. The printer does have a lot of features like a FAX option and Air Print. High Praise for this Brother INKvestment printer!

Seriously, this printer checks all of my boxes and then some. It’s perfect for a home or small office set up. It prints good photos and fast documents. It has a manual tray in the back for loading a variety of documents and a standard paper tray in the front. It has a loading scanner tray on the top of the printer, but you can always put documents and photos directly on the scanning bed as well.
The big push for this printer is the “investment ink”. At full, Brother estimates you can get page yields of 1,200 color pages and around 2,400 back and white pages. Brother estimates that these tanks will last a year based on standard usage, but obviously, your yield is going to vary depending on the type of content you are printing. I have had this printer a week. I have printed about 70 documents and about 20 fine quality pictures. So far, I have barely made a dent in my remaining ink (see attached picture). I would have run out of ink in my standard inkjet a few photos ago. But this printer keeps on going. And, when I eventually replace my ink tanks, I expect I will pay less for the year as these huge tanks aren’t all that expensive. I was spending $50 on my HP cartridges that were empty in a few months. I expect these tanks will last much much longer.
The printer is easy to set up. Documentation with the printer is fairly limited. There is a QR code on the front of the included documentation that will take you to online files in you need more info, but in my experience, everything was pretty straight forward. You can download the latest drivers from the Brother website or install from the included DVD. For my test, I fully installed the brother software on my laptop, but the other PCs on my network required no software installation. Windows found the device on the network and installed basic drivers for them with no prompting on my part. I would still recommend installing the software as you get more features and can easily monitor the printer’s ink chambers, but if you just want to print office documents, you don’t really need more than the basic windows driver. The printer works great on both Samsung and Apple tablets and phones. In both cases, I could download the Brother iPrint&Scan from Google Play and the Apple App Store to print photos, but AirPrint worked great to just print documents from my iPad and iPhone.
The feature set on this printer is amazing. You get dual sided printing. You can fax. You can scan to email. You can scan a document into an editable Word document. You can scan to One Drive, Drop Box, e-mail, or Google Drive. You can even scan a spreadsheet directly into Excel. Scanning to mobile produced a QR code that you can scan with your phone to download scanned document. There are tons and tons of features for this printer and, in my experience, they all worked well.
So far, printer maintenance has been easy. In the last week, the printer itself has had two firmware updates. Both times, the printer notified me of the update and installed it quickly and effortlessly. I’ve had no problem with streaks or lines in prints. Everything has come out looking great.
I like the quality of my photo prints on this printer much more than a HP printer I picked up a few years ago. The images just look brighter and truer to the screen image. With the right photo paper, images really pop. I got the best results from premium Fujifilm, but even pictures on HP paper looked good.
If I had any complaint, the manual paper tray on the back of the machine could be a bit finicky. The printer would say paper is loaded, but sometimes when I went to print I had to reload the photo paper in order to get it to go through. It’s important, I discovered, to make sure your photo paper is fully in the slot. Beyond that, the Brother MFC-J995DW has worked flawlessly. I have been testing this printer for a week. I have documents and photos everywhere and my family thinks they look great.
I love the features and simplicity of the printer, the quality of the prints, and the size of the ink tank. This printer really does check all my boxes and I recommend it to anyone in the market.

A solid home office all-in-one

The Brother MFC-J995 is a very nice, compact all-in-one printer, FAX, copier, scanner that is well suited to personal or home office use. It’s a solid product for a reasonable price. However, even with its large ink capacity, it’s really not intended for heavy or enterprise use.
The build quality is good as I would expect of a Brother product, and I found the installation to be especially easy. If you’re adverse to reading even the setup guide, the prompts on its LCD screen will walk you through the process. Plug it in, and it turns on. It then prompts you to install the ink tanks and allow them time fill its internal tanks. After connecting to your home WIFI, its banner and test pages automatically print. It does have its demo mode switched on which scrolls through all its features after a short period of disuse. It took a little searching, but this can be canceled in the Setting/Initial Settings/Misc menu.
I purposely did not initially load the Brother software on my computer. Windows 10 found and installed the printer/scanner and provided basic functions with generic drivers. After a quick test, I installed the Brother software package. As always, I went online to make sure I had the most current software. Even so, it immediately called home and suggested three recommended updates. This included an update for the firmware and two program modules. During the install, you are given some choices. I skipped the FAX software since I no longer have a landline, but I did choose to install the separate PaperPort program. PaperPort has been around a long time, and it’s pretty much a Swiss Army knife for accessing printer and scanner functions, managing files, and conversion to different formats. This is Version 14 SE. If you want the pro version, you’ll have to pay. I should mention that if you let Windows install the printer initially rather than first loading the Brother drivers and software, you will have two instances of the printer show up under devices. You can leave them both, but to reduce confusion I deleted the initial Windows generic version.
As stated, this is a very compact unit. Even with the bump out on the right side to accommodate its “INKvestment” tank system, it’s just a slight bit over 17” in width. The Inkvestment system is the basis of the claim of “one year of ink in the box”. Obviously, time will tell on that count. The printing is clear and sharp, and Brother has come a long way in improving its photo printing. I found that to get truly nice color you need to set the default to “vivid” in the properties menu. For normal printing and scanning (plain paper printing and 200 dip scanning), it has acceptable but not exceptional speed. Photo printing is fairly slow at over a minute for a 4x6 print, but the results are very good for a four-color printer. It does duplex printing but the document scanner does not duplex and has a capacity of about 10 sheets. There is a manual one sheet feed slot on the rear. Connectivity is extensive with WIFI, Ethernet, USB as well as NFC for Android and Apple print. You can print and scan with any and all devices connected to your WIFI or in close proximity. There are USB and an SD Card ports built in as well, so you can print from or scan to connected cards and devices.
The software and printer LCD touch panel have a lot of options which attest to Brother aiming at the home office market. The Brother iPrint&Scan appears very simple on its opening page. There are buttons to choose either print or scan, and once you choose you are given basic options. However, if you dig a little, there are lots of potential presets and workflows you can set up with a high level of control. It allows you to scan directly into a variety of programs and several cloud services. Also, there’s the PaperPort program that you can use if it suits your needs. PaperPort can access all the printer and scanner devices on your network, not just your Brother unit. There’s a Brother program called Control Center 4 which is their version of a command and organizational system. Both of these programs have OCR and PDF creation abilities.
My conclusion is that the MCF-J995 is a pretty good jack of all trades for family or small home business use. It’s very compact. It’s well built. It has a very large ink capacity for a small unit. It does everything pretty darn well at a very reasonable price for the high-quality results. It’s not a class leader in any individual task, but that’s the nature of all-in-ones. It well surpasses the cheap under $100 units that often break the bank with ink costs and do everything marginally. It’s a good choice that’s worth the money if you’re looking for an actual tool for home use that will last a few years.

I’ve had a lot of experience with ink printers over the years. With each printer that I have owned, there has always been a sense of compromise. Whether it was high ink consumption or slow recognition of my request to print, each printer had its drawbacks.
My pleasure is genuine as I write this review for the Brother J995DW Wireless All-In-One Printer. The set up is extremely simple. The touch screen display guides the user with the quick set up and calibration. Connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi is as easy as linking up your phone or tablet to your network. The printer does come with a small phone cable if you just want to connect the printer directly to your phone line and need to send a fax. I have to mention that the touchscreen display is a decent size, easy to read and recognizes my interactions whereas other printers felt short in those areas.
The response time to process my printing request from my laptop was almost immediate. The print time is amazingly fast. For a full-color photo on 8x11 paper, it printed out in 35 seconds. If you’re needing to copy a small document that is several pages, there is an automatic document feeder that makes fast copies while not destroying the original document(s).
There seems to have been a lot of thought in the little things like how easy it is to load the paper into the tray or how the paper support tray unfolds to an angle which prevents the paper from falling to the floor upon printout. I also have the option to load a single piece of paper in the manual feed slot for those times where I just want to use a single piece of photo paper without having to pull out the standard paper tray. The manual feed slot also allows for envelopes to be printed on.
The Brother J995DW also has the option to print directly from a USB or a memory card directly to the printer. The touchscreen display allows you to preview the photo/image that you are wanting to print.
I’m really impressed with this Brother printer. This printer delivers without compromise.

The Brother INKvestment is a printer that I think will make many people extremely happy. What makes this printer so good, besides the amazing print quality - the ink cartridges last for up to a year long.
When it comes to printers and ink, my biggest pet peeve was the ink and how quickly the cartridges would run out. With the Brother Inkvestment, that takes care of the problem very well. The box comes with a year supply of ink in just the single cartridges. So, I no longer have to worry about running to the store whenever I need to print something, due to no ink.
After spending a week with this printer, I can say I truly like it. The set up is very easy and straight forward, as it has nice detailed instructions right on the 2.7'' colored touch screen. Once it's connected to your wifi, it stays connected. I haven't had any issues with the printer losing connection to wifi. Another neat feature this printer includes is, it comes equipped with an NFC reader. That means, if you have something to print on a mobile phone or tablet that's equipped with an NFC reader, you just need to hold it up to the printer, and it will recognize the device and print.
This printer is also equipped with a scanner, that works great. It scans images very well with very good detail. The print quality is amazing. Very rich and bright in color, with excellent detail. The one and only gripe I have about this printer, is that printing is a little slow. It's not a deal breaker, as it does a great job on detail. I don't have a land line, so I didn't get a chance to try out the fax machine.
Overall, I am very impressed with this printer. This is one of the nicest printers I have ever used, and with all the features plus yearly supplies of ink, the Brother Inkvestment is truly a gem. I would definitely recommend this printer to anyone!

The Brother MFC-J995DW is a wonderful 3-in-1 printer that does every task beautifully. I tested all three functionalities and will share my experience with all of them in this review.
Installing the printer was relatively hassle-free, even though it took me over an hour. I highly recommend following the Quick Easy Guide. The process of installing the ink cartridges was easy and took maybe 5 mins including the wait for the ink to transfer. Setting it up to the WiFi was a bigger task, but only because my router (Sagecom) has issues with new devices. A static IP fixed that though.
I tried first to set it up on my iPhone 8, but was unable to print and unable to update the firmware on it, so I had to do it on my iMac. Before being able to update the firmware on a computer (at least through WiFi), you have to download the Java Development Kit, which acted a little bit buggy, but I was able to update the firmware this way. After updating, I could start printing, both on my iMac and my iPhone.
As a printer, it works fast and the quality is great. Printing from my computer and my iPhone was easy and quick. You need the Brother iPrint&Scan app both on iPhone and your computer to be able to print, which also allows you to scan. You can also print by clicking the “Print” button in an app menu. When I printed a document this way, the printer was already selected and ready to go, and the document started printing as soon as I hit “Print.”
As a scanner, it produces a rich, vibrant scan of the original, and it does it quickly. The color and detail were quite impressive, even on lower settings. With the app, it’s easy to select the destination of the scanned image, making it very convenient. This is easily the best scanner I’ve ever owned.
Many of you don’t have or use a fax machine anymore, but if you do, I can assure you it does a fine job at faxing a document. Nothing wrong with the quality of the scan, and it’s pretty easy to save numbers and set up your fax information.
The user interface is designed pretty well. You do pretty much everything on a small touch screen, and I had no issues using it. In addition to the touch screen, there’s a back, cancel and home button. Sometimes you have to hit back, other times cancel. Just one button would’ve been fine, because if you hit back when you’re supposed to hit cancel, the printer acts like it doesn’t understand, when you clearly just wanted to back to the previous menu. It’s a minor complaint but I wanted to mention it.
Overall, this is a great printer at a great price. I’ve had several printers over the years, and this is definitely my favorite so far. One last thing, remember to pull that little thingy out, or the paper will just fall on the floor.

Brother MFC-995DW is my second brother printer. Before this I had MFC-J630W for almost 7 years and it is working well even now. So, from a reliability point of view brother printers are excellent in my opinion. I have had this printer for around 2 weeks now and here are my observations.
Pros
=====
1. Easy to setup
2. A number of connectivity options (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB to single PC, NFC, WiFi-Direct)
3. Much faster printing speed (as compared to J630W). I don't know how it compares to other printers in this price range. In my tests, I was able to get 11 black & white prints per minute.
4. The double sided printing capability is great and saves me papers :)
5. The ink is supposed to last 1 year but let's see how that goes :)
6. Great color prints even with lots of graphics (I printed few power point slides). If you are trying to print color pages on both sides, please make sure that you have good quality paper.
Cons
====
1. I think the LCD screen should have been a bit bigger
2. As there are no physical buttons, you have to use LCD touch screen only. The smaller size of the LCD screen means smaller buttons which results in pressing the wrong button accidentally.
3. If you use ADF, you can use the double side printing feature
Overall, it is a good entry level all-in-one printer which obviously is a huge improvement over my old J630W. It's printing speed and long lasting inks make it a good choice for home or small business printing.

For starters, I’ll say this is a good printer. There are several things to like including the features, size, print quality, ease of setup (well... more on that later). For the features I feel it’s very compact and fits neatly in place of our previous $50 “throw away” printer.
Honestly, there’s not a whole lot to say here. It does what you want it to do and if you’ve used an all-in-one in the last 10 years you’re going to have no issues working this thing.
About initial setup, our first printer arrived at our door with a cracked (really not that noticeable and, honestly, we didn’t care that much since it didn’t ruin the images on screen) screen. Moreover, it wasn’t functioning. Unfortunately, the touch screen is required to complete initial setup and so we essentially had a brick on our hands. BB got us a replacement quickly and we were up in running in < 3 minutes.
I don’t know if this was a quality control issue or if it’s damage that occurred during shipping. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it’s just one that slipped through the cracks.

I made a great INKvestment!

The Brother MFC-J995DW printer is clearly ahead of many other printers.
Let me start by saying the “INKvestment” name is genius.
I always wanted to purchase a replacement printer with updated features that are more convenient with today’s technology. My old printer is about 12 years so it is behind.
So let me give everyone a summary of my experience after using my new MFC-J995DW INKvestment printer by Brother.
In the box:
It is simply just the printer, phone cord, install cd and manuals. I had my printer in perfect condition because it was packed properly. That is important to me because that seems to enhance my experience knowing that brother company find that important.
You don’t do much besides following the intructions after you insert the cd in your compute.
Setting up:
This is supposed to be easy but it took me about 30 minutes to get it all ready. I’m very thorough with instructions and I took the extra time to make sure I don’t have to move it again. Loading the ink cartridges was so easy I enjoyed do it. I decided not to do the phone line setup for the fax because I have no desire to use it but it’s good to know I have the option.
Features:
-WiFi printing is a big deal for me. I can do every printing wireless using my smartphone or laptop. It also have NFC so if you have phone with NFC you can scan it by the touch pad for printing without using the WiFi network.
-Ink Tank which allows uninterrupted printing for up to 1 year. I only started using this printer a few days ago but to know that I have about a year of printing before looking to purchase more ink is a good INKvestment.
-Scan is also easy to use and probably a must have for anyone looking for a printer. I will use it more to attach documents to my emails because I will not be using this to fax.
-Paper tray is loaded inside the printer which gives the MFC-J995DW INKvestment printer a clean look with no clutter.
-Touchscreen measuring 2.7 in and responsive and accurate to every touch. Having it in color is also good.
Appearance:
To me the MFC-J995DW INKvestment printer look good and sleek for all it does.
It compliments well with my desktop and anything on the same WiFi network can print from anywhere in the house. I did some printing tests using my laptop, iPhone, and iPad. All were instant and printing was perfect with no streaks.
Final take:
Besides spending a little more time setting up the MFC-J995DW INKvestment printer I think it covers everything I need when using a printer and more. I do not do a lot of printing but this will be great in a small office and will actually save the business money because there is no need to have a printer for every computer.
I’m looking forward in using this for my home needs and maybe one day a business. The MFC-J995DW printer will save me money all while everything that involves printing will be much easier. I’m happy that I had an opportunity to leave my review because I feel confident that many people will be just as impressed after trying the MFC-J995DW.

Very easy to set up. My laptop and iphone recognized it immediatley when setting up wifi. So nice to print from my phone! I've had a Brother printer in the past and always found the ink/toner usage was very reasonable. I'm sure it will be the same with this printer. I've printed a few pages already and the color and the grayscale prints were of fine quality. A nice plus is this is an all in-one-printer with a very small footprint - not some huge bulking printer like so many other all-in-one printers. I'm very happy with this printer.

I love this printer! It was easy to set up. Directions were in the package. I like that it does automatic double side printing. No problems and I’ve used the scanner and the feeder for copying for a month. Very neat and compact looking.
My last 3 printers were HP and each replacement lasted a shorter time, so I’m glad to find a dependable replacement. My only dislike is that the paper tray sits so low that it’s a little hard to get my fingers under it to pull it out. I may put it on a monitor stand to lift it up.

After owning, and throwing away, Canon printers for years we thought we'd try something different and read good things about this one. It was quite a bit more expensive than the cheap Canons we'd bought before but it held more ink and that was good. Now owned it over a year and love it. Prints great, easy to use, and have not bought ink yet. We don't print really a lot but by now I would have replaced Canon ink probably twice. It's compact too so fits easily on the desk. Would definitely buy again.

Great Ink Saver!

Bought this based on the number of positive reviews from other buyers and from what I found online on page yields for these types of inks. I came over as an HP Photosmart and Officejet user and those machines just guzzled inks nonstop.
The Pros of this machine: ink saver!! (reviewing this after a month and a half of use and having printed about 70-80 pages black), hefty machine, feels sturdy (but there are parts that are a bit flimsy), good print quality for what I need it to do, double sided automatic printing capability, easy home and mobile printing setup, and automatic document feeder.
Basically this machine does everything that I need it to do while saving me ink. Now, at this point, after having printed 70-80 pages black, I still have 2100 ages left on the black cartridge, per printer. I have also examined the cartridge and it's practically full. This black ink cartridge alone should last me a whole year, based on my usage.
Now, for the Cons: definitely slower than the HPs I've had, print quality is not as sharp, some parts of the printer feel flimsy (paper holder tray), general aesthetic appeal is rather boring, the touch screen needs to be bigger and can use a 21st century redesign, and not the fastest or the sturdiest product for business use (you might fall asleep waiting for it to finish printing or you can also go on lunch break while it is printing).
In short, this printer is good for home or student use. It works great for me and my printing style. I timed it at 1 minute for 2 pages, front and back (so really 4 pages), no graphics. I would give it 5 stars if it had a sturdier paper holder tray and a sleeker design, but hey, I am saving at least $75 on ink and no guilt when printing. By the way, it does not come with a USB cable but does have a software cd.

Did a lot of research before purchase as I was concerned about cost per page for an inkjet printer to replace an old HP8600 that died after 8 to 10 years. Printer was very easy to set up and produces text and graphics at least as good as the more expensive HP it replaced. It's too early to evaluate true cost per page. I appreciate that the smaller size i.e. less desktop acreage. I don't need the fax feature, but when I went to download the Mac fax driver (October 2020) I received a warning not to use it as it may damage my computer. I don't know whether this is a transient problem that will be fixed, but Mac users needing fax should beware.

Brother MFC-J995DW Seems To Perform Well

This little compact printer seems to perform adequately to meet my needs, although I've only been using it for three days. I have a new iMac with operating system 10.15.X. The Geek Squad associate was here on Tuesday and was able to download the iPrint&Scan software and demonstrated a scan using this software. In previous reviews of this machine, folks had problems scanning using Catalina 10.15.X. All we scanned so far is just a two sentence document, so I need to exercise this function more fully to review it adequately. So far, my impression is favorable. It's not too noisy and since I don't sit at my desk all day I haven't noticed it cleaning the heads and making noise yet. I really like the fact that it will print 2-sided, saving paper. When it comes time to do my taxes and print out my voluminous returns I'll have a better idea of how well it performs under pressure. (The input tray only holds 150 pages.)

I have always purchased HP printers in the past. They never lasted and would always have problems from the get go. They were always noisey and take forever to wake up and print. The only thing good about them was my cat was fascinated with all the noises they would make. No matter where he was in the house he would come running to see what was going on. I wasn't looking to print high quality photos. I was just looking for a printer that works when I need it to. Decided to try Brother after reading reviews. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. Unbelievably easy setup, quick printing and plenty of ink. I have bought a million things from Best Buy and this is my first review. That's how happy I am with this printer!
