Customers highly value the keyboard quality, particularly praising the precision touchpad and build quality. Positive feedback also highlights the excellent battery life and ease of use, with many appreciating the straightforward setup process. While some find the weight to be a drawback, others appreciate the satisfying key travel. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect of the product.

Great keyboard but adds a lot of weight

I am always trying to find the right keyboard for my Surface. I got the official keyboard cover and I enjoyed typing on it, but it still feels flimsy as you type on it. I always heard great things with Brydge and was excited to get this. After a few weeks with this, here are my thoughts:
Pros:
-Feel: this is an amazing typing experience. The keys feel great as you type away. It also has good key travel for my smaller hands, but this actually feels like a true laptop experience. The touchpad is nice and responsive:
-Protection: like all Brydge products, the keyboard attaches to the tablet/computer via two hinges that securely holds it and gives you the clamshell design. The hinges are nice and secure, I don’t fear it opening by accident or falling out.
-Viewing angles: The hinges also give you good viewing angles and keeps it in that angle so you don’t have to use the Surface’s built in kickstand. Which also allows you to truly use the Surface on your lap without it feeling awkward.
-other features: backlit keyboard, always a good thing. Long battery life (6 months with initial charge).
Cons:
-weight. At 1.46 lbs, this adds to the overall weight when you have the Surface attached.
-temperature: the surface pro 7 already gets hot when I use it. Having the Keyboard which connects via BT makes it even hotter. This is not a knock off tue keyboard, but the overall experience can be an uncomfortable one.
Overall, I really enjoy the Brydge Keyboard. I feel it works well, improves your trying experience. Highly recommend this keyboard.

A Better Keyboard

This is my second Brydge keyboard, my first I used with my Surface Pro G3, it was a huge step up from MS's no travel keyboard pad. My current Surface Pro G7, came bundled with a MS keyboard, so I'm going compare and contrast the MS keyboard with the Brydge 12.3 Pro+. Given my love for my first Brydge keyboard, I was anxious to try they new Brydge 12.3 Pro+.
First weight, the new Bridge Pro+ is lighter than the original, but more than twice the weight of the MS keyboard, but this is not all bad the Brydge balance the Surface's weight so it can be positioned it at any angle, without using the kickstand. You can also use the Brydge detached from the surface (BT connection) so you can position the surface at greater distance (I do this frequently where the surface is about a foot from the keyboard - or in my lap), I can't do this with the MS keyboard, that has to be attached to Surface, and you can't balance it in your lap (too flimsy).
As I said the brydge connects to the Surface via Bluetooth, but to save power the Brydge powers down after a few minutes of non-use. So when you start to use again the first keystroke is lost unless you remember to wake it up by pressing the shift, ctl or fn key first; I use other BT keyboards all the time so I'm accustomed to this, I also have learned to look for backlighting to be on before I start typing. So this a difference but not a big deal to me.
Key travel/key size - a big win for Brydge, all the keys are slightly larger the the MS keyboard, and the key travel is a little longer, it just feels much more natural to type on the Brydge keyboard - no contest.
Backlighting, I love backlighted keyboards, don't know how I got along without one. The Brydge backlight is almost twice as bright as the MS keyboard, and it stays on longer. It's also adjustable low, med, and bright.
Charging, the new keyboard holds a charge about 3 times longer than their original (6mo vs 2mo); Both are plenty long, and when charging the keyboard you can still use it. The MS keyboard does not need charging, but that means their backlighting and keyboard draws power from the Surface. So with the Brydge your Surface will last longer on batteries.
Trackpad, this is an area the MS keyboard has improved the most. The MS trackpad is very good, but the Brydge trackpad, is slightly larger, and even more accurate, 100% of trackpad is responsive, the edges of the MS trackpad, may or may not do what you would expect.
Protection, the Brydge is made of aluminum, it much stronger than the "Fabric"/plastic MS keyboard. It also heavier, which may, be a negative to some. I'd also have to call the Brydge keyboard is "prettier" the construction is excellent, it match's the Surface's high quality appearance. The MS keyboard, still looks/feels like an afterthought.
One ding (star) against the new Brydge 12.3 Pro+ keyboard with my MS Surface 7, it pulls off the hinges pretty easily. With my old Brydge I could lift the surface and the Brydge keyboard stay connected to the hinges. If I do the same with my new Brydge keyboard attached the Surface pulls out of the hinges. Their original had multiple silicone inserts for the different thickness of the different Generations of MS Surfaces. There is not that much difference between the G4-G7 but there is some, I wish the Surface did not separate as easily as it does.
Overall the Brydge is a much better keyboard, in almost every way than the MS keyword. If I had to buy either a MS keyboard or a Brydge the cost/performance difference makes this an easy decision - Brydge wins. Except for staying connected to the surface, when lifting the screen, it's nearly perfect.

The Brydge 12.3 Pro+ wireless keyboard! It comes with a keyboard and a USB type C to C cable for charging. The keyboard has two slot in hinges where you can slot in your Surface Pro 4-7 to convert it into a laptop form factor. The slots are very firm and will hold your Surface Pro in place pretty well. Unless you intentionally remove your Surface Pro, it won't fall out. The hinges themselves are very stiff, so the position you angle the Surface Pro at will be pretty solid and not shift. Build quality of the keyboard is very good also. The keyboard itself is just a bit thinner than the Surface Pro and the solid construction of the keyboard materials make it look and feel like a very durable product.
On performance, this keyboard seems be very laggy for me (related to track pad). Not sure if this is due to Bluetooth connectivity issues or if i got a defective track pad but it was very noticeable. It is most obvious when moving the mouse with the keyboard's track pad, the choppy animation and non-fluid tracking made it feel like i was on a 30 FPS screen. Putting my Surface Type Cover back on and using the track pad from there did not render the same issue (so i could only assume it is the Brydge keyboard causing this issue). The typing experience on the other hand is not too bad. The key travel is very satisfying and consistent throughout. It certainly does not feel as good as typing on the Surface Type Cover, but comes close enough. The only issue i have with typing is that the palm rejection of the track pad was not that great. I would find myself typing and the cursor moves to another spot in a document where i did not click. This issue really discouraged me from typing on the keyboard and defeats the purpose of even having it in the first place. The only workaround for this issue is if you have a USB or Bluetooth mouse that you are using and disable to Brydge keyboard's track pad or you just disable the Bridge keyboard's track pad and use the touch screen feature of the Surface Pro to move your cursor. Not doing so will really hinder any typing related activity you will need to perform. I typically use a USB mouse (Logitech G502 Hero) with my Surface Pro, so i was able to avoid this issue with the track pad but certainly wanted to point it out for anyone that may use the track pad only so they may be aware.
Track pad issues aside, if you are looking for a way to convert your Surface Pro into a laptop, this keyboard cannot be recommended enough as there are work arounds for issues described above. However, if you are looking for a reliable and keyboard and you will not be using a separate mouse, i would certainly stick with the Surface Type Cover or other alternatives.

I used this keyboard daily with my Microsoft surface pro 7 for two years and It held up very well. The typing experience is one of the best I’ve ever had, and the trackpad is buttery smooth. Taking the surface out of the hinges is relatively easy, as they grip it pretty firmly. Opening and closing the hinges is pretty easy, but you definitely need to use two hands. It is slightly bulky and heavy, but the quality is great. The battery lasts a very long time, as I only have to recharge this about once a month. One of the control keys started popping off after extensive typing, but since I had the Best Buy protection plan on it, they replaced it with a new one for me at no cost. Brydge products are absolutely amazing and worth every penny.

My review is from the standpoint of a long time Surface Pro 4 user. I’ve put a lot of miles on it. And I had real high hopes of this robust unit breathing a little bit more life into my beloved Surface. Unfortunately, it will not.
I’ve used a type cover for my Surface since I’ve had it. I’ve become very accustomed to the removal and flipping of the cover so that I can walk around and write on the screen while doing field surveys. I’ve never once dropped it using it like this. I feel it’s really well balanced and there is plenty of grip on the cover and the back of the Surface. But this keyboard turns a Surface into something else I am not as familiar with. It essentially turns it into a heavy clamshell laptop. And I mean heavy.
The construction of this keyboard is excellent. Down to the matching metal finish (that looks much newer and a bit less yellow than my Surface…) and the really nice arrangements of screws on the bottom. The feel, the quality, even the perfectly placed rubber feet are all spot on. I can’t say how much I like the ability to lean it on a wall and have nothing but rubber touching the floor or the wall. The keys feel and sound great. The battery life of this keyboard is unreal. 6 months??? Wow. There are a lot of great things going on here for sure.
Then you start to see the drawbacks. Just getting a Surface into the clamps took a lot more energy than I expected. It was borderline uncomfortable to put that much pressure on the keyboard or my Surface. Even then I appreciated the idea that it was not going to be slipping out any time soon. Until I realized just how tight it actually was. When installed, the now laptop took a good bit of force to open up. So much so that it causes the screen to distort around the clamps. At one point my entire screen was flickering when adjusting the orientation.
Once you make the connection via Bluetooth the keyboard is recognized after a few seconds of the Surface waking up. But it can sometimes take up to 10 seconds for it to connect. Which is clearly not what you would get if you had an actual laptop as it would be immediate. I also seem to keep having to dial down the mouse speed for the trackpad each time I connect it as well.
Then there is the weight. Again, I’ve become highly accustomed to the weight and feel of my Surface with a type cover. But this keyboard installed on a Surface feels incredibly hefty. There is no way I can use my Surface in the same fashion as I did before. The hinges don’t allow you to fold it over completely. And removing and reinstalling it over and over is not the right move there either as it would just tear up the rubber in the clamps and potentially damage the screen.
What this really needs is: A physical connection to the dock of the Surface rather than a Bluetooth connection, looser hinges to minimize screen flexing or may some sort of release on the clamps, and a significant weight reduction even at the expense of battery life if need be. Knock those out and this would easily be a 5* item.

Excellent alternative to Type Cover

This keyboard base is an excellent alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro Type Cover as it offers most of the same excellent experiences at a similar price and with better lap usability. The Brydge Pro+ turns your Surface Pro into full-fledged laptop!
The build quality is truly amazing, offering a very nice balance of weight, thinness, and size. The keyboard base is the same physical size as my Surface Pro 6, making it feel like a perfect fit. The hinges grip the Surface firmly and it is very secure, but also easy to remove for use as a tablet when you want it. Balance and portability are excellent, I tested this on a road trip to a client, and it is backseat memo writing approved! The base kept the Surface stable and secure, even while encountering some pretty rough potholes on a Wisconsin farm country highway! The battery life is excellent! I’ve been using this non-stop since I received it, after charging to 100% (arrived with about 80% charge), and it is only down to 83% with the backlight on the middle brightness level! The trackpad feels really nice, the gesture control works very well, but there is some very noticeable lag and latency… I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, messing with tracking settings in Windows, even going as far as turning off Bluetooth and WiFi on surrounding devices. It will track well most of the time, but when there is an issue, it’s like your cursor is ice skating across the screen while missing frames! This isn’t a huge deal as most of the time, it works well and is at least very useable, but when its bad, its really bad. I believe this has more to do with the Bluetooth in the Surface Pro 6 than the Brydge Pro+, as the same issue happens with my Logitech MX Anywhere 2S Bluetooth mouse. Hopefully this will be solved through an update to the Surface drivers, but it appears that it is NOT an issue with the Brydge Pro+. Typing will occasionally have slight latency, especially after a few minutes of not using it, but it disappears very quickly and is fairly common with Bluetooth LE devices to save power.
Overall, I really love using this keyboard base! It’s stable and turns my Surface Pro 6 into a laptop that is amazing to use, still very light weight, and looks amazing! I would highly recommend this for students and professionals who need portability and usability in a variety of “table-less” environments!

An excellent keyboard & touchpad for Surface Pro

Brydge - 12.3 Pro+ wireless keyboard with touchpad
This is an excellent product and certainly a dynamic upgrade over the keyboard cover that Microsoft sells for the Surface Pro. I understand that this keyboard is only compatible with
Surface Pro 4-7. My particular model is the 5.
I could tell this is a high quality product by the packaging it came in.
Installation was a snap with clear instructions in the installation guide. The battery did need charged when I received the package. Once the battery was charged, it stated holding the FN Key and Del. A green light came on. The next step was to go to settings to activate the Bluetooth. No problem.
The settings also indicates the battery power level percentage which is supposed to be about 6 months. After a few days, the percentage reads 89% The screen can adjust to different angles and the keyboard is backlit. I noticed that the backlighting was not working but I found out how to turn that feature on from the support page on the Brydge website.
The charging cable is USB-C male ends. My SP-5 does not have a USB-C. Rather,, it is equipped with USB. However, I was able to charge the keyboard with my SP Mini which has a USB-C port. I would imagine there would be an adapter to take care of that situation if you wouldnot have a USB-C charging device.
If you haver a Surface Pro 4-7 and are in need of a keyboard, this is a better solution that Microsoft's type cover except for one thing - portability. You could use the Brydge cover while transporting the SP but the MS type cover is better for that.
I have had occasion to replace the MS Type cover. If I had to do it again, I would without a doubt choose the Brydge keyboard.

It's a great keyboard option

Very easy to insert and sync the Bluetooth connection. And while very sturdy and multi positional, the tablet can easily be removed to go tablet only again.
Typing feels as good as any other small laptop I have used. It's a bit better key feel than my 2 larger Dell laptops.
I did removed one star because the weight of the Brydge. The Brydge doubles the weight of my surface. The Brydge is nice and sturdy, but the battery/aluminum/?materials?. Adds significant weight. I included the weights for those who care to worry about overall weight.
Surface Tablet alone: 1lb 11oz.
Brydge Keyboard alone: 1lb 7.4oz
Microsoft Type alone: 11oz
Overall, this is a great keyboard option if you, like me, bought your Surface and didn't get a free keyboard at time of purchase. It's a bit heavier than the competition. Yet, you don't have to sacrifice anything else to get a full keyboard experience with your Surface tablet. Effectively Brydging the gap.

Versatile Brydge Keyboard for Surface Pro!

This is an amazing full size keyboard (compared to surface pro keyboard) for surface pro 4/5/6/7 models. Its rugged, well-built and transformed my surface pro 6 into a versatile laptop. I had it for a week on my surface pro 6 and am happy with its functionality so far. The small plastic piece holding the kick stand hinge on one side of surface pro broke off and it costs about $400 dollars to get that replaced. The Brydge wireless keyboad was a perfect fix (and a life saver!) to the broken hinge on my kick stand and I never have to worry about using the kick stand again. Set-up was a breeze, the touch pad on the keyboard is very responsive and has the multi gesture control similar to the original keyboard. This brydge keyboard made my surface pro a little heavy but I didn't mind the weight as now I can now rest it on my lap and work during my travel. The key board has all the functions as the surface pro keyboard, so I didn't feel like I was missing the original key board and one charge lasts about 6 months. It’s a backlit keyboard with 3 levels of brightness and I had no problem using it in the dark. It taunts about having bezel that has active antimicrobial ingredient that inhibits the growth of microorganisms, which is good to know, not that I have had issues with bacterial growing on my keyboard or PC in the past. I had the iPad Brydge keyboard for years and never had any issue with it and I can attest to the quality products that they make.

The Brydge keyboard holds itself where you open it to. It provides a protective cover for the Surface PRO. Easy to charge with the included C-cable. Neatly placed on the right side, the small cable can charge the keyboard directly from the Surface PRO.
The rubber corners neatly and securely hold the Surface PRO corners and folds flat. The backlit keys allow typing when ambient lighting minimal.
Since I use my Brydge on my lap I am happy to say my palm rest in the open areas on the lower right and left of the track pad. Regular sized key button makes typing a breeze.
The track pad works well with the lower edge simulating real mouse button clicks. Zoom in or out with two finger gestures. All in all a great addition to the Surface PRO. Bluetooth enabled. Function key to disable the trackpad (ALT-Fn).

I bought this with my new Surface Pro 7. I was a little hesitant as some of the reviews are pretty critical. I have found that the Surface fits nicely in the grooves and have not had any problems as others have said. I still am waiting for my screen protector, so we'll see if that changes. The delay when waking up the keyboard is just a second or two and really not a big deal or deal breaker. Battery seems to work as advertised. However, I don't typically do a lot of constant typing, so depending on use this may or may not be true. It took about an hour and a half for me to fully charge it after getting it set up. I've used it for several days with moderate use and the battery is still going strong. The back lit keys are a huge upgrade from the type cover I was used to using. I was a little worried it would be a big change from the type cover as far as getting used to the keys and positioning my hands/fingers but it hasn't been an issue at all. They keys are very responsive and easy to push. some of the added controls over the type cover are a nice touch. Only complaint is that the backlighting is adjustable and it took a search on the internet to figure it out. But once you figure it out it is easy to do. I would definitely recommend.

This keyboard is just alright. There are several issues I have with it
1- Why would the power function be connected to the function key? There is space on the keyboard for it to have its own separate power button. There should be no need to press function and delete to power on and off the device.
2- The keyboard makes the Surface Pro 7 heat up and with frequent periods of use, the Surface Pro 7 heats up real quick. If there was some way for the makers of the device to utilize the Surface prongs then the device would be much better. The rubber prongs attached to the device make you afraid of using it because of the potential of a cracked screen. A 150 dollar keyboard breaking a 1700 dollar tablet laptop.... no way!
3- Brydge has back covers for entire ipad line. Given that the surface pro is basically a tablet, building a back cover would be something needed for a device of this type. Hopefully Brydge will come around and make such a device
The Brydge 12.3 Pro+ turns the surface pro into a true laptop. It is better than the original surface type cover, and has great functionality. However, because of these flaws, the keyboard is just an "ok" device to use.

I ordered this keyboard for my Surface Pro 7.
Out of the box, the keyboard feels pretty solid, and a decent replacement for the flimsy Surface keyboards that Microsoft makes. I am comparing this to both the Surface keyboard, and Microsofts full size keyboard in the same price range. The first thing I'll mention is that the main area where your hands sit is made of plastic, not metal. The key travel is substantially greater for typing, which really slows me down as I'm used to the light touch I can use on the Microsoft board. The keys are a bit more rounded, which I guess doesn't matter, but asthetically isn't as pleasing.
The actualy use of the keyboard seems to be pretty quality, but I find I have many missed keystrokes due to using the surface book keyboard, and other Microsoft products with less key travel. Once you're used to that I'd imagine it types well otherwise.
The trackpad is larger, taking up from the bottom of the space bar all of the way to the edge. This is pretty useful. It's sensitive and works well.
I literally shoved the Surface into the hinge and it seems to be holding well. When the computer is closed it does seem to have a small gap between the screen and keys- which is OK but again doesn't look as smooth as it could.
The main reason I purchased this keyboard was to better work on my lap or in bed. I had a Surface book and missed the solid keyboard.
Overall, it's good, but don't expect the same quality and functionality as a surface book keyboard. For the cost though, this is an excellent product so far.

Great Quality Meets a Terribly Fatal Design Choice

The idea is brilliant. The build quality is phenomenal. Works and pairs instantly with the Surface Pro 7. But I returned it. Why? It has a fatal flaw. The FN lock doesn't exist. I contacted Brydge first to see if they were planning on doing a firmware upgrade to support this in the future. Never heard back so ended up returning it.
Imagine this: you want to switch to a different window -- ALT + TAB doesn't work. You need to press ALT + FN + TAB. You'd think that (a) the F1-F12 keys would be the default and lesser used keys (brightness, volume, trackpad control, etc.) would be the ones needing FN. Nope. They are the base. OR, (b) there would be some way to actually make it FN is always on.
To be clear, previous generation of Brydge keyboards for Surface Pro did have a way to lock the FN key so that F1-F12 would work without needing to press FN. So this was either a really poor design decision by a product manager somewhere, or a really poor execution of the QA process.
So - if you are someone that rarely uses F1 thru F12 keys, you might get by with this. However, if you're doing any sort of multi-tasking and grew up with ALT+F4, ALT+Tab, CTRL-C CTRL-V, forget this. Makes no sense to use the FN key in addition to the muscle memory shortcuts you've developed over your lifetime.
Typing on this is better than the Surface Pro keyboard -- that was the big draw. And it makes the Surface Pro study, which is also awesome.
If Brydge releases a firmware update to allow for FN lock (or makes the function keys (F1 - F12) the base standard, I'll purchase it in a heartbeat.

I recently made the switch from the Type Cover over to the Brydge 12.3 Pro+ and I honestly wish I would have done it sooner! The keyboard holds my Surface Pro 7 firmly and the connecting process is super simple. The typing experience is amazing and I love the track pad which is way nicer and slightly bigger than the Type Cover.
I really only have three things I don't like about the Brydge. The first is that I cant flip it 360 degrees and use my Surface as a tablet. I was worried about it at first but all you have to do is pull it out of the tabs which isn't as big of a deal as I expected. The second is how stiff it is when opening the laptop. I understand it needs to be stiff to hold the tablet up, but I wish it was a tiny bit smoother. The final thing is the fact that the top of the keyboard is plastic and not metal to match the bottom. This isn't a big deal and doesn't affect the functionality of the keyboard in the slightest, just something I wish was an option.
Overall I think it's an amazing keyboard and by far the best competitor to the Type Cover I've used.

Excellent product. If you want to turn or at least make it feel like your tablet is a laptop. Has to be one of the best keyboard accessories I've used. Strong, durable, and the lighting makes it easier to see the keys. The charge on the Brydge 12.3 Pro+ almost makes you forget that you needed to charge it in the first place.
