This keyboard definitely transforms a Surface Pro into something else. Which can easily be classified as something closer to a laptop than a tablet PC. And I think most of those interested in this item will be looking to make that very change. Objectively speaking, for every feature you give up by using this with your Surface Pro, it gives something back in return for better or worse. And the resulting product is something that is just right for certain situations. First off, this keyboard is an absolute unit. And I mean that in every good way possible. The craftsmanship is excellent. It matches so well with the Surface itself in finish, dimensionally speaking, and attention to detail in its general design. The hinge is very stable and the weight of the unit is enough to allow you to fold the Surface pretty far back without tipping it over while it’s resting on a table. The clamps are very secure once the keyboard is installed. The Surface shown here has a protective skin and a screen protector installed which made forcing it into place a little difficult. And in order to make sure I wasn’t damaging either, I had to move it very slow. I would urge that same caution to others as well. If you have a thicker glass screen protector already installed, I do not think this will work. I would advise against this keyboard in that case. And while the clamps add bulk to the overall thickness, and will likely take away the ability to slide this into a perfect slot in a bag, it does add a layer of protection by reducing surface contact in public areas by the gap it creates between the computer and what it’s resting on. That also means it adds a significant amount of protection against liquid spills. And not to mention that gap makes it so much easier to pick up off a table too. This unit does not make a physical electrical connection and must be charged independently with a USB-C cable. This is something that is not provided in the box and I recommend a 1 meter USB-C to USB-C cable to charge it from the Surface to the keyboard while the surface is plugged in with its own charger. That may be the fastest solution. If you use a USB-C cable to charge the Surface already, then I would continue using that and be sure to charge the keyboard when needed. The keyboard itself is impressive. The keys feel very similar to the OEM offering but with the perfect amount of additional travel. And that might be the right area to have an improvement compared to the OEM option with a keyboard of this stature. The additional weight this keyboard adds to me is offset by the extra bounce and responsiveness from the keys and track pad. It doesn’t make it feel flimsy in operation and more like a dead weight. It just feels sturdy and somewhat rugged. I want to complain that there isn’t space for the new Slim Pen 2 to be stored. But the additional internals required to charge it, the resulting reduced battery capacity, potential conflicts between devices, and most importantly…most people buying this will likely not be using a pen anyway are reasons enough to not have this included. Perhaps I lack the perspective, but I just can’t see scenario where using a pen with this keyboard installed would be very useful anyway. Overall, this is an excellent addition to a Surface Pro 8 for someone who is on the go that needs a lot of protection, a more robust keyboard, and wants to reduce contact with surfaces by a considerable amount.

I have the Surface Pro 8 and did not like using the magnetic folio keyboard because using the kickstand is hard when on the lap. I have used the Brydge for my Pro 7 and then with the switch to the Pro 8, I needed to get this keyboard. As space is at a minimum at the hospital, having my Pro 8 with the Brydge to use on my lap was essential. Although it adds more weight to your Pro 8 (about 1.5 lbs), I feel assured that it will not tip over. The two hinges secure the Pro 8 snuggly, no fear of scratching the screen. They hinges are also very sturdy and well built and offers 180 degree viewing angles. It is slightly bigger compared to the Pro 7 model, and you really don’t notice the additional space. The keys feel nice when typing, really good travel, backlit keyboard to use at. If by, and a very responsive. touchpad. For full usage over the past 2 weeks, battery life has been excellent and had no need to charge it since I first used it at full charge. Only issue I’ve noticed is the Silver color shows more scuffs. Overall, I’m really excited that I got this for my Pro 8. Well worth it and it does enhance your Surface experience.

I've really grown to love the BRDGE over my Pro keyboard. This device uses a standard C charge plug. Mine did not have one in the box as indicated on list of items included. Also missing was the instruction manual. I'm waiting for the factory to send me one of each. Now the good news, it charges quickly, pairs well with my Surface Pro, but has occasionally lost Bluetooth connectivity. Simple to fix since the Surface pro has a touch screen to call up the SERTTINGS app and then reconnect the keypad. I never had this problem with another BRYDGE keyboard, so it may be the PRO's Bluetooth issue. The keys are responsive and nicely back-lit . All the function keys like volume up/down, screen brightness, mute, keyboard brightness (on and off) right on the top row. F-keys are available with use of the FN key on the bottom left. There is a hot key on the lower right which calls up the fly-out list for whatever command or program you are running. A real time saver. It does add a little weight to the PRO but it holds the display rock solid in position and is super easy to insert and remove , and open and close. Super thin hinges are nicely positioned out of the screens real-estate for viewing [email protected] the keyboard and how long the battery stays charged.

    Turn SP8 into Laptop

Excellent keyboard. Great key travel and typing experience. Turns SP8 into more of a traditional laptop. When connected, the SP8 is a little top heavy so extra care is needed. I use with a laptop lap cushion/desk for best experience. No issues with connection and no lag experienced. Brydge keyboards always offer a excellent clicky feel with great travel. Keyboard also connects via bluetooth so you can use even when SP8 is not in the clips.

I returned the first one since it didn't re-establish the blue tooth connection each time I turned it on as expected. The new k/b wished perfectly. Attaches simply and the hinges make the Surface much like a laptop. Miss being able to fold keyboard under tablet when in tablet mold (original Surface keyboards) , but the keyboard itself is fantastic. I bought this specifically for my new Surface 8 Pro. Definetly adds weight and bulk to the tablet. Also saves several $ vs. MS keyboard.

Form factor of this is AWESOME. I really want to keep it…. But the Bluetooth connection is soo bad I just can’t do it. Often when I start typing, the first letter Dune appear. The touchpad will randomly move the cursor to the bottom of the screen when I’m simply trying to click on it. Maybe I got a dud? Otherwise, definitely solves a problem with the Surface - nice being able to use it as a true laptop.

This keyboard is a game-changer for the Surface Pro. The Microsoft keyboard is nice for use on a desk or flat surface, but does not work well on your lap or in bed. This keyboard turns the SP into a true laptop, perfect for the bed or lap, and the tablet comes out fairly easily to go back to a tablet.

I love this keyboard one of the only things I don't like about the surface line. It's happening to use it when I'm laying in my bed at night or relaxing on the couch. The option of this keyboard brings a whole surface pro Experience together

Common bluetooth failure so Blue Tooth dumps them

Worked great for 1 year and 6 months. Now it will not maintain the bluetooth connection to the surface pro 8 at restart. Updated Surface Pro .msi firmware and all windows updates with resolution. I have to re-pair the bluetooth connection at every startup, after sleep mode or after not using the keyboard for awhile during a session. $150 with tax new so this headache cost me $10 per month. Now I find this is a common issue and the company was purchased by another company owned by the same Brydge management. The new website has no contact or support information. I guess that's why Best Buy is selling them for pennies on the dollar now. Thanks Best Buy!

Gotta have for Surface Pro. I’ve been a Surface Pro user since the early days…and this “solves” the keyboard puzzle—do you pick a laptop with a solid keyboard, or the Pro with its thin but only-stable-on-a-table keyboard. This is a perfect solid complement. Great keyboard tactile feel, solid connection to the Pro. Try it, you’ll like it!

I liked the concept of this keyboard. It looks and feels premium and there is zero keyboard flex due to chassis being metal. It nearly doubled weight of the surface pro, fyi. The battery runs out maybe every two days with continuous use. but the main problem was that it simply had Bluetooth issues with lag and latency which made me return the product. The keyboard would enter a soft-sleep mode a few seconds after any usage. This created an awkward experience where the next key press or TouchPad interaction would incur a 250 millisecond delay as the device needs to wake up again. The next issue was that TouchPad movements produced noticible lag to the point where the mouse cursor did not keep up with basic finger movements on the TouchPad. And lastly the TouchPad just isn't precise at all as you would move your finger gently and it's not registered at all. I checked for firmware updates on products website to discover there is none. I checked what driver windows 11 installs for this and it was a driver from 2006. I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers to no avail. For a product that has the windows seal of approval and even sold directly through MS store it simply does not work so I cannot rate this above 1 star.

It's OK when it works. But when the Surface goes to sleep it disconnects and needs to be repaired from scratch in the Bluetooth menu. It also disconnects whenever you plug it in to charge and whenever you manually turn off the keyboard. Brydge support ghosted me after I sent in a video of the problem along with my proof of purchase. I've tried emailing them back and creating new support requests online a number of times and never got a response beyond the initial two where they told me to update my drivers and then requested video proof of the issue and proof of purchase. I would not recommend this to anyone.
