This replaces my CanoScan LiDE 500 scanner. Considerably improved over the previous model. Improved software, easy operation, quiet, USB powered (does not require separate AC adapter). And excellent (as always) Canon customer support to back it up. I also own an HP scanner, and it cannot hold a candle to this one, in any respect. And a great price at BestBuy, with prompt shipping.

    Best little scanner EVER

If you just want to scan pictures and documents and don't want to pay a big price, then this is the scanner for you. It scans beautifully with almost no input for the user (great for novices!) and if you want to fix up the pic after scanning, it helps you do that, too. It has tools to help you make an old pic like new and make a new pic look like it was taken 50 years ago You don't have to be anywhere close to a pro to use this. Also, it uses only 1 cord (to connect to the computer) and you can sit it on it's side when you are not using it for space-saving. Also: It Works with VISTA 64-BIT!!! (note: not all will!!) For great scans and little money, this is the best scanner there is!!!

After years of using a LiDE35 I upgraded to the LiDE200. Sharp clear scans. OCR doen't work the way it's suppose to but I really don't use that anyway, my major concern was pictures. The newer software, MP Navigator, automatically crops pictures on the first scan, no preview needed.

I bought this to replace another Cannon which had a good life but died. This model was attractive because of the price and features, especially since there is no power plug- gets it from the computer. It scans things reasonably fast, and the quality is acceptable. I have not scanned photos yet. I do mostly financial documents, and this works great. I wish the software was a bit easier to use, or was more consistent with the older versions. I miss just pressing the scan button on the unit and my document scanning automatically. You have to open up the software first for that to work- in the old days I did not.

best Canon CanoScan LiDE200 Flatbed Color Scanner

hi I decided to replace my old "all in one" printer which I was using as a scanner and a photocopying with the Canon LIDE200. I liked the specification: 4800x4800 dpi and a claimed 11 second scan rate. The first thing I noticed as I was unpacking the scanner from the box was a mysterious WARNING about unlocking the lid of the scanner. The scanner was packed with the lid unlocked (as I found out later), and the instructions mentioned to keep the lid locked for travel or extensive handling. Fair enough, but it made me wonder if I had already done something bad to my scanner (I hadn't). I then installed the software. I expected big things from Canon here, because generally they are pretty smart about software. The software, in terms of use, is much better than the software I had for scanning with my old scanner. The scanner has an "easy" setting that basically just scans at 300DPI without a fuss. If you want to scan at full resolution, you have to open the "driver" that exposes a page with all the bells and whistles to let you really fine tune your scan and set the highest resolutions. All this was fair enough, however I found a few minor disturbing problems with the software. Firstly, once you've opened the "driver", it's not intuitive to figure out how to get back to the "no brainer" mode. Also, when you want to save your scan, it always seems to default to the scanning library it sets up. If you override it, it doesn't stay "changed". This is a slight pain. I always wonder who they hire to test and give feedback, because I always feel like I'm pointing out what should be the "obvious" to large companies like Canon (actually I really love Canon - so take no offense!). As far as scanning speed is concerned, the scanner does indeed scan a 300 dpi page in about 11 seconds (that's pretty fast folks). However, the estimate does not include the 3 seconds the software takes to respond to the command to begin scanning (I'm running a duo core processor - no slouch) and the few seconds it takes to save the image. All in all, speed is impressive. Now on to document quality. I tried scanning a few brochures and to be honest, at 300 DPI I wasn't super impressed with the result. So I went into the "driver" at set the scanning at maximum resolution (4800 x 4800). You get a pretty good result at that resolution, but by no means was I blown away. Perhaps more "tweaks" of the driver is needed. I noticed that the scanner attempts to "improve" the picture (which it does) but some of the detail of the text was a little off (brochure had images and text). I wondered if the lid of the scanner was making really good contact. Next time I will add a few pages of plain white paper behind the image and see if it makes a difference. I tried scanning a printed document, and compared it to a printed document I scanned using my old scanner. I scanned the image to a PDF and low and behold, a major, major improvement (at 300 DPI). So, I gave the scanner four "stars". Why not five? Well, the software is much easier to use than my old scanner, but still not without a few minor "quirks". This is a great scanner for scanning documents. How well it will actually scan and reproduce a photo is still in question, and perhaps I need to learn how to use the driver software better. I don't think I could scan an original photo without seeing some degradation in quality. I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences regarding copying photos. I hope I'm wrong in my assessment, because I really expected a 4800x4800 scanner to reproduce "dead on" copies of a photo.

This Canon Scanner is compact, light weight, and extremely easy to use. Wished I would have purchased it sooner. I've had several scanners in the past 10 years, even all-in-one printers and this scanner out does them all. For the price it can't be beat.

Cannon Flatbed scanner is a great addition to my computer. I scan photos and documents. PDF scanning allows multiple pages (front & back) to document backs of photos or documents into one file. One USB plug and your connected. Software was easy to install and works well on Vista. I reccommend it to all. Cover is attached and would be nice if it lifted off for odd shaped scans, but not a big deal. GREAT scanner

I bought this scanner to have digital copies of important documents. Quality of the scanned documents is nice and they can be saved as PDF format. The scanner is only < 4 lbs, it does not clutter my desk and it only has one cord to use- the USB cable. It is a nice purchase and Canon makes good products.

We moved this scanner around the office to different users as needed. Everyone learned how to use it easily and the software loaded well on each computer. After a month of sharing one scanner, we purchased the same model here after it was discontinued at another vendor so that the two people who used it the most wouldn't have to keep sharing one scanner. The second scanner that we bought here has been working as easily as the first one.

Ordered scanner on a Friday before leaving on a trip and it was at my front door when I returned on the following Tuesday. Took it out of the box and had it up and running in minutes. The USB connection serves to power the scanner and tansfer images (nice feature). It does a great job and photos and documents. Has option to create pdf files from scans which is also nice. Have scanned hundreds of photos so far with no complaints. It does equally well with old B&Ws and recent color photos. At any price this is a great scanner ... the fact that it did not cost an arm and a leg was just an added bonus.

Good product Not so good OCR

I've had the scanner for only three weeks so my experiences are limited. Installation of software and drivers on my work laptop was a pain because it required special administrator privileges available only to our IT folks. The software, like any other, requires experience to use efficiently. Interestingly, the OCR scans using the dialog box or the front panel buttons do not raise the same options after the scan, e.g., converting OCR to text file. Therein lies one of the limitations of the OCR, only Notepad text files can be created which loses most of the formatting of an original document and the text gets easily scrambled by imperfections (e.g., fold lines), my chief complaint. Scan speed is average. Functionality is enhanced by using the TWAIN interface. If you do much OCR work, this is not the scanner for you.

This scanner does what it is supposed to do. It's a little slow, but for low volume work, not an issue. I like the LED design, very light weight, and uses only a USB cord for connection and power. Software is easy to use and user friendly. I'm happy with the purchase.

I bought this scanner for copying business documents but then was pleasantly surprised by its high quality photo scanning capability. Also, an added 'plus' is the stand for vertical storage, freeing up desktop space. Overall, I recommend the Canon CanoScan LiDE200 to anyone looking for a basic, affordable scanner for business or personal use.

    Killer Scanner

This scanner is very comparable to the scanner that it replaced; which was also a Cannon product and about 10 years old. I like the flat bed scanner as I can copy full pages of documents with ease and the OCR works fabulously. Corrections to scanned images are simple to complete and the resulting documents can be imported into almost any software the user chooses. My last scanner had an expandable feature so that bulky objects could be copied with relative ease; those same objects still copy but the top remains at a large angle during the process. Overall the quality and the results are the same and therefore, I rate this scanner to be user friendly and an extremely valuable asset. The copied items are essentially indistinguishable from the original. It is well worth the price I paid and an exceptional value in my opinion.

After 10-12 years of using the same flatbed scanner, I found myself looking for a new one. Imagine my surprise that the flatbed scanners were not available in store, and had to be ordered. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. The feature I like best is the USB power cord. I wish all my gadgets had that! I'm still learning how to make it do what I want, but so far, I've been fairly satisfied with the results.
