This lens is on my camera about 75% of the time. It does so many things well - but I've been using especially for portraits. Very nice background blur, and razer sharp photos. It focuses very fast and accurate. Very expensive, but I will be getting my money's worth. This is my absolute favorite lens, and if I could only have one lens, this would be the one!

I have been drooling over this lens since it came out! When Best Buy ran their 18 mon. 0% interest same as cash I knew this was the only time I'd be able to buy it, and I did! This lens is so incredibly sharp and clear. The only drawback is the weight. It is VERY heavy. I don't like using a tripod most of the time, but I'm going to have to start. I'm a small woman at 5'1" so this thing is probably heavier for me then it would be for a guy. I almost gave it 4 stars because of this, but in my opinion if you use a tripod it doesn't affect your pictures. And the results are incredible. I love wildlife, my boys sports, and portrait photography. Most animals don't stand around long enough to get a tripod adjusted. This is why I don't care for tripods but I got some decent shots even handheld and zoomed all the way to 200mm. I will post a picture if I can figure out how. There is a huge difference in the glass compared to my lense that is not an L series but decent lense. This image was taken at 200 mm plus cropped way in since it was a ways off.

    Canon Makes The Best Glass

I took the lens out on a chilly, grey, winter afternoon to take some test shots. The sky was heavily overcast, with the type of evenly toned, grey clouds that bring the promise of snow, which they eventually did. In other words, I did not have the best light conditions for taking pictures. The detail in the picture is amazing. You can see the brush strokes in the paint job on the barrel of the cannon. Take a look for yourself. Canon makes the best glass, and this lens is one of the best they have ever released for the consumer market. The AF is fast. The IS is dead silent. Handhold this lens by the tripod foot, to relieve stress on the camera body mount.

I am seriously so happy that I purchased this lens. Although it is a little on the pricey side, I would always recommend it. I've shot action shots, family portraits, engagements and product with this lens. Everyone that sees the photos that come from this lens are always super impressed.

I was previously shooting with either a 50mm f/1.8 or or a f/2 135mm prime, but having to either swap lenses or carry two bodies was becoming a burden. With the fact I was rarely shooting at f/1.8 or f/2, dropping to a max aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum focal length of 70mm was a fair tradeoff for this lens's range and image stabilization. Yes, it's heavy -- that's really the biggest thing I liked about the primes over this one.

Good lens. Expensive for sure. There is a bit of a learning curve on this lens. I could not get it to auto focus on the moon, i had to switch it manual mode on the lens and camera. It took great action photos for an indoor volleyball game. Takes great portraits.

The Canon 70-200mm IS L is the best lense you can have in your camera bag, ideal for portraits and long range shots. I'm a professional videographer who just got into photography and this lense has been my best friend along with the 50mm 1.2.

Just my opinion, if you're looking for a 70-200mm lens there's nothing better than Canon's 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM lens. I've had the lens about 1 month and have used it on both my 6D and 7D Mark II. Image quality is outstanding, auto focus is instant and quiet, and the 4 stops of image stabilization works as advertised. Yes the lens is heavy and expensive, but they just don't come better than this.

Let me start off by saying I am very much an amateur photographer and this is a major hobby of mine. Not a professional. I love this lens. I mostly shoot action (auto racing, air shows, some sporting events), severe weather and landscape stuff. The amount of light that this lens allows helps greatly as well as the stabilization system. Not to mention the high quality of a Canon L series lens. I have been wanting one for a while and finances finally worked out to make it happen.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. This lens is spectacular in every way. There are several complaints about the weight, but I don't find it to be a problem at all. The hardest part was deciding to spend the money, but now that I have it I do not even think about the price. Simply put, this lens has opened up a realm of photography I did not know existed. The depth of field is fantastic and the images are superb. I am using a Canon 70D with this lens and am fully impressed with both.

This lens has been one I've rented twice before and now am a happy owner of! It's easily a favorite of mine, spanning an incredible range of zoom and maintaining an awesome, wide open aperture of f/2.8 all throughout! Not only that, this lens does f/2.8 like it's no one's business! Just look at pictures people have taken with this lens or rent one for yourself! Use one at Best Buy! This lens makes being in the Canon ecosystem worth it.
