This was a gift for my wonderful wife who always had a great eye for composition, but not the technical background to get her favorite type of pix... MACRO. This lens has opened up that world for her providing auto focus and auto exposure ability at ~ 8 inches from the lens. Images have been stunning. Bokah: she's now able to choose how deep the depth of field is and still get good shots. It's been wonderful seeing this woman who's been my photo companion on hundreds of pro shoots becoming a photographer in her own right!

Enables you to get very close shots. Depth of field, of course, is less so the window for focus is narrower. But you can work around that if you carefully frame your shots

I haven't played with my new macro lens too much, but the pictures I have taken with it, I really like. And I know the more I play with it, the better I'll get at using it.

Great lens. Very clear photos, excellent for close up macro shots. I got this lens specifically for macro photos , although I was impressed by how good/clear photos were of things (people, some semi- close pictures of birds ect) that were not extremely close (as are for macro photos) . Was not at all disappointed & have been pleased with my purchase.

Wish I had bought the 100 instead of the 60 so I don't need to get so close to the subject.

This is a very sharp lens that is useful for both macro and medium telephoto shooting. It's light weight is a good match to an SL1, The auto focus hunts a little bit when shooting macro, but this is easily overcome with a little patience or by switching to manual focus. It's a small inconvenience with respect to the overall performance of the lens. The price is very reasonable for a true macro lens.

This is an excellent product that does what it is supposed to do. But not only does it shoot extremely close to a subject (the 1 : 1 that is advertised) with excellent sharpness, but it has spot on sharpness for long shots. It can be used with portraits as well. I love this quality product!

I do a lot of close up photography and underwater shots of small animals. This lens is one of my favorite I have ever used!! It also does very well for Portrait style photography with a blurred background.

I purchased this Canon 60mm f/2.8 macro. The images it produces are very sharp, and the color is just awesome. I would say the images are on par with those produced by L-series lenses. It is solid enough for heavy use but not abuse. It is mostly plastic on the outside.

I love this lens. It opens up a whole new world of those tiny parts of natural objects. Shooting up close lets you see what the naked eye or normal lens cannot see. This lens is capable of extremely sharp images. There is a small learning curve when it comes to using a macro, but once you get it it a delight to use.

my only recommendation would be getting protection for this: the build is not as solid as (i think) the quality warrants. but then, it's great value as is. btw, if the viewfinder magnification is around .87x, the end result is a 1:1 magnification, which means you can keep both eyes open at all times without having to mentally "erase" the image from the "other" eye. a helpful plus for occasions when you are just waiting for the subject to walk into the frame.

The glass isn't the best quality but it's a great lens for beginners, a lot of creative freedom with the macro

This lens is an excellent Macro lens. It is fast and sharp. It is also great in low light situations. Best to use manual focus though, because auto-focus takes longer than desired.

Excellent lens for portraits on APS-C format cameras (Canon Rebel, 70D, 7D). [96mm equiv.] Excellent for macro, but you may prefer the 100mm Macro for better working distance from subject. Specs and more reviews at Canon USA website.

This is probably the best EF-S lens Canon makes. It is extremely sharp and with the f2.8 it provides excellent light and control of depth of field. On the bodies that use EF-S lenses it also gives the view of approximately 100mm. Great to portraits.
