Overall, this lens is a superior choice for the serious photographer and pro-am. The lens is fast enough for many low light situations, the image quality is excellent edge to edge, at least with a sensor crop camera. Cost is a bit steep, but it is a must have lens.

This is the greatest lens I've used so far . . .

This is probably the greatest lens I've ever used... with the only exception being the Canon 70-200mm L IS II. Still, it is unbelievably sharp throughout the zoom range. I've taken shots that would rival the most expensive primes. Focusing is just about instantaneous because when you choose your target and it instantly appears crisp and sharp! The build is solid and strong. It is not nearly as heavy though as the previous model which seemed to be more of a metal body. In addition to being lighter, this lens is also shorter making it easier to travel with and more fun to shoot with. This EF lens features a zoom lock which prevents the barrel from zooming out while hanging from the neckstrap and also has full-time manual focusing. I say give it a try and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I had the 24-70mm L 2.8 Ultrasonic before for 4 years. An excellent lens on its own it was a bit large and heavy but I got over that for the qualtiy of the shots. The odd thing about the first one was that the zoom seemed backwards (or maybe I am backwards) at 70mm it was all tucked in as small as it could be, at 24mm the lens extended all the way out to its largest configuration. I did have an issue where fast shots of my kids would come up out of focus. For posed shots and not-so-fast action, focus was fine. New Mark II has greatly improved focus speed. It is a bit lighter and does not have the giant hood. The new hood is a smaller flower-petal shaped one making it look less like a weapon. The lens also zooms in what I consider to be the correct direction, at 70mm the lens is fully extended and at 24mm it is all tucked in.

I really didn't want to buy this lens because I had the range already covered and was able to buy some length on a 100-400, When talking to other photographers about everything from a great portrait lens to candid hobby photography, EVERYONE said this was the glass for the job. I ended up selling my 100-400 and the kit lens18-135 that came with the 80D and purchased it. Wow the larger aperture really has made a huge difference, it makes everything looks SOOOOOO clean and professional. I took a couple random shots of my wife before a date and WOW it looks like a model ad. Purchased additional protection and keeping this forever.

This is the only lens you need! It's very versatile and sharp. The shallow depth of field is amazing. It's quick and a great all around lens. This is seriously on my camera more than any other lens. I love it! If you can afford this lens get it! It's the only one you really need besides a 70-200 2.8 ii ;)

Proudly upgraded my camera and the Canon - EOS Mark II Mirrorless Camera has excided my expectation! I got the EF24-70mm and you can shoot just about anything with it. The images are in such high quality and look so amaxing raw you almost feel like you don't need to edit the images. Absolutely in love with everything about it. I can't wait to capture beautiful weddings with this !

This is the first L lens I have ever purchased and I am thoroughly happy with my decision. When comparing this lens to the lenses that my peers own... I would always come back to this lens as my #1 go to. This lens is ideal for portrait photography and I would also trust it for landscape. You get exactly what you ask for! 24-70mm of zoom, a wide angle and an incredible boca effect. Cannot upload photos for preview due to file sizes being too large.

Personally, I love this lens, I am amateur photographer, learning and improving steadily. I own a 7D and will soon be buying a 6D. I'm not great at writing reviews but here's a summary of my friend's view on the lens (he is a professional photographer, a real one, haha): Pros - smaller, lighter lens with improved weight distribution. Flare resistance, sharpness and color accuracy comparable to Canon L Prime lenses. New center pinch-style lens cap and button-release hood. Cons - No more internal zooming, camera can't stand face down on hood, expensive, doesn't hold focus after changing focal length. Exposure is affected slightly throughout zoom range.

This lens is great! I’m so glad I decided to finally purchase it after years of admiring it from online. It really is as versatile as other reviewers say it is. Not only is it great for portraits but landscape as well. I personally like it for food photography along with my nifty fifty. Great for multiple occasions!

Just bought it a few weeks ago after reading numerous reviews online. It's a good compromise between a really wide angle lens and one with decent reach. Hopefully it's as sturdy as it is heavy. Appears well made and all functions seem very smooth. Hopefully I'll be able to iron out the ins and outs of the lens paired to my new Canon 5D M IV. So far, so good. Awesome pics.

Canon never disappoints with there lens lineup. I picked this one up to complement my 70-200 With the 2 lenses its all you need in your bag. Have done several days of shooting. Its quick and the focus is amazing. Love the depth of field from this lens. I was worries about not having stabilization on it at 70mm but not to worries it does just fine. Would highly recommend this lens to anyone that is looking for a constant aperture lens.

I think this lens is pretty awesome. Takes great pictures and good in low light and consistently at f/2.8. The thing it is missing is image stabilization. There is probably some argument about the fact that it's in the 24-70 range so why would you need IS but I guess I would just expect it from a $2300 lens. Honestly before I rip this lens up for not having IS, I should be honest that I haven't used it a ton because it's been cold out and I haven't had a chance to do much outside shooting. However, I'm planning a trip to South America and decided to take a 18-135mm and 50mm over this lovely thing. The primary reason is due to its weight when trying to carry it backpacking and lack of IS for quick on the move stuff. You might say I'm being picky about it for my specific, immediate purposes but it is what it is. So in no way am I saying this lens is bad. In fact, it's awesome and super sharp. However, it is heavy and doesn't have IS. So that's my reason for 4 stars.

If you’re slowly making your way over from amateur to pro, this is the PERFECT lens. While you will eventually want to add more L series glass to your kit, this range gives you a more versatile first lens to get accustomed to. Phenomenal lens for everything from landscapes to portraits.

This Canon - EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Standard Zoom Lens is a great fast glass lens. It is my first prime lens. The pictures are so sharp via hand held and especially on a tri pod. Zoom ring is nice tight and smooth. There is no image stabilization. The zoom lock is firm and dose not allow for accidental release. Easy to install and remove. The 2.8 F/Stop is great. Makes this lens even more versatile. This lens is paired with my T8I with a battery grip. Will be purchasing R5 to use with this lens. Recommend to all.
