Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the EF50mm F1.4 USM Standard Lens for EOS DSLR Cameras, praising its excellent image quality, great performance in low light conditions, and beautiful bokeh effect. It is also considered a great value for the price. While some users have mentioned that the lens takes a bit longer to focus compared to the 1.8 version, the overall positive feedback suggests that this lens is a popular choice for portrait photography and general-purpose use.

Shoot above f/2.2 for best results

I love this lens and recommend it for professionals and casual shooters both. I shoot a lot of weddings and this year I decided to use primes over zooms for my wedding work and I haven't looked back. I got this lens at Best Buy in Yonkers, NY and I recommend this Canon 50mm f1.4 over the f/1.8 version. Faster and better bokeh. The 1.4 is also built better than the 1.8 version and is the better alternative if you don't have the Cheddar Chee$e for fork over for the King of Kings 50mm f/1.2L. Some reviews on the internet don't give this f/1.4 great ratings because it is soft at f/1.4 to f/2.0. It certainly can be but I don't find that to be the case in all situations. If I'm shooting a portrait of one person and use fill flash, the results from f1.4 to 1.8 are quite excellent. If there's more than 1 person in the frame you want in focus, you should be stopping down anyway, no question about it. This lens is best used at f/2.2 to f/8 IMO.Be aware that this lens doesn't come with a hood, but third party hoods are available for cheap. I always used a lens hood when shooting professionally or personally.

I love this lens! Its my first lens so I may be biased but where's why I love it. The images are so sharp - even in night time with low light. The focus is easy - auto focus mode on the lens is easy to use with my Canon 90D. The lens feels sturdy in the hand and attaches easily. I also got a UV filter and lens hood (3rd party) to protect it from harsh direct light. The lens plays nice with the camera body's internal auto focus system as well. I can focus with the shutter button as well as by tapping the display screen. If you want a lens to get you that Bokeh effect, this is the one! Plenty of other great resources online about how to maximize use of this lens.

This has become the main lens that I use in my bag. Overall you won't be disappointed, I do feel it can be a bit slow on the shutter, maybe that is the adapter since I use this lens with my mirrorless camera, but I still think is a great purchase. I used it for a birthday theme park shoot, family session, and got amazing photos with it. I have used it in low lighting, bright scenes and it picks up colors and lighting very well. I cannot speak too much on the video aspect, my intended use is pictures, but I feel like even with video the lens works well. It feels great in the hand, however it can be pretty heavy for my Canon M50. That doesn't scare me from using the lens, again add in the adapter and it's weighty. I did have a hard time with fitting desired background in certain shots (still playing around with it), but that's not necessarily a negative, it just shows how close and how far you can get with the lens depending on what you are shooting. So far, I am not disappointed with my lens!

I bought this lense with low light closer up shots in mind. In addition to great photos in low light without flash, I love having the1.4fs for blur and the distance meters. I now have better control on certain focal points.

This was a repurchase due to my camera bag being stolen(I know...made me sick for months). I absolutely love this lens and it takes beautiful portraits. Plus it is very easy to use.

I upgraded from the Canon 50mm 1.8 to the 50mm 1.4 in this purchase based on the improved build quality and reputation of the f1.4 lens. While the 'thrifty fifty' f1.8 is a great lens and hard to beat the f1.4 lens is a step up. Hard to describe but the subtle differences in glass, construction of the body and overall build quality but it is an exceptional lens and worth the upgrade. I ordered the lens online and had it delivered to the store... it arrived a day earlier than projected! The Best Buy staff was great and I'm totally pleased with the transaction.

Great lens for everyday use. Just used it for the first-time last week on a trip to Lake Lure, NC. It performed as well as I expected for a lens costing only $400 which I found very reasonable being retired I have to be careful of what I spend. Used this lens on a 5D so several photos had to be cropped to keep them within limits.

One of My Favorite Canon Lenses

Every now and then I bring out all of the Canon lenses and just randomly shoot a bunch of shots with each of them and then review the pictures without ever touching them up. This happens to be one of my favorite lenses and I know this because I always have so many more pictures with this lens than a couple of the others I just had to have, which I also like too. I have to say, there is only one Canon lens I probably didn't need and it is the Fisheye lens. Cool lens but I still have two-three pretty expensive lenses on my wish list I would rather have than that Fisheye one.

If you are looking for a really good Portrait lens, get this one! If you have a cropped sensor this acts like a 85mm which is perfect for me! But if you have a full frame it acts like the 50mm aka Nifty Fifty. This lens makes everything buttery smooth! It’s amazing for B-Rolls but make sure it’s very stabilized since the lens is not. These are some of the pictures you can get with it, good for portraits and more!

If you are looking for a perfect indoor lens, this one is for you. It works well everywhere too. Two most common indoor photography challenges are lighting and clutter (stuff you don't want in your pictures). This prime lens solves both problems, It's 1.4L aperture is great to capture stunning photos in minimal lights and prime focus blurs everything but the subject. Its ultrasonic motor is fast, gives amazing results with pet photography.

This is my second copy and it is a bit better than my first one when it comes to sharpness when shooting wide open. Color saturation is great, built quality is also really good. My fist copy lasted around five years using it 4 times a week and about 500 shots every time as it’s my go to lens when shooting street runners.
