There is really nothing I don't like about this scanner. It is very easy to use and does a great job at scanning in documents. It is plug and play, meaning you simply plug it in and open it up to turn it on. It automatically opens up a file folder with an owners manual and software in the folder. The manual is a link to a browser with all of the instructions. The other file is a software that allows you to select what folder you want the documents to go to and you can name the document. You load the paper and select 'scan' in the software and it passes the document through one and it scans both sides of the paper.
When you are finished, you simply close the lid of the scanner and it shuts off. This scanner doesn't even require batteries or a power supply. The USB powers the document. The documents are very clear as well. So far I have no complaints and highly recommend it!

Two Sided Scans

Ok, for a portable scanner this thing is a beast in a good way.
You can:
- Do two sided scans in one pass.
- Business card scanner built in, even handles really thick/rigid plastic business cards
It folds out like a transformer and ends up looking like a desktop scanner with paper guide and supports. The only thing missing is a place to catch the documents after scanning.
A few odd choices came with the scanner:
- The software shows up as a mount point in Windows. Depending on version of Windows, the button on the scanner can automagically open the app. The button does not work with Windows 11 and my virus scanner.
- I have not been able to get it to work with Chrome OS without using a wine emulator. The software is either Windows or Mac download.
- Updating the software will overwrite what is on the mount from the scanner. Worried a glitch may take away the software. As a side note to the positive, nice to not have to download something on every machine you connect it to.
Personally I would like to see the software be external or installable. Maybe even have a browser plugin to allow Chrome OS to work with it. Native Linux support would be nice as well. But a browser based app would allow cross platform regardless of the OS.
I did have an issue with the scanner where it was initially hard to get the paper to feed into the scanner. The software reported that there was no document to scan. That only happened initially, but seems to have worked itself out.
One other design issue I have noticed, the card scanner will jam if anything is behind the scanner, like the USB cord running to my laptop from the scanner.
Overall this is a fantastic scanner once you get by some small details and figure out how to work around them. Chrome/Linux OS support would be a nice addition. I would even be happy with a hack or maybe a web based app of some sort.
The images are fantastic though. And that is the most important part of a scanner...

As a realtor, proper and portable documentation is a must. This Cannon Scanner is perfect for that. Can take to from hoe, to office to meeting and closings.
Simple to use, scans cleanly and quickly.
Great choice and I would recommend to a friend.

This is amazing for scanning my photography contracts while I’m out and about on jobs. It is really compact and fits great in my camera backpack. It is powered by my laptop through the USB port so there is no worry about not having a outlet around. The quality of scanned documents is fantastic. I can scan double sided documents with one scan into multiple file formats. Build quality is very nice. This will definitely help me to stay organized with all of my receipts too to make tax season slightly better. I definitely plan to fill up my cloud with all of my important documents, records, medical bills as well. Using it at home, it takes up very little space on my desk all neatly folded up. Highly recommend especially it you need a little help staying organized.

Had very high hops for this scanner. First, be warned that if you have a newer computer that only has USBC ports you will have to buy another cable to connect the scanner to your computer. Though the port on the device is USB C the other end is USB A which most new computers do not have. I use an adapter on my MacBook but this cord will NOT work with a hub/adapter. Very frustrating. The unit itself comes with a software that you do not load on your computer, it has to “boot up” each time you use the device. Has a handy adapter slot for cards but found that it is very difficult to scan receipts or other papers that are smaller than a regular piece of paper. It is powered by the USB cord so there is no additional cord to keep up with and makes the unit truly portable.

Good portable scanner for the money

The Canon imageFORMULA R10 Portable Document Scanner is a good portable scanner for use on the road, office, or around the house for small scanning tasks. It is corded so you will need to have your computer nearby when scanning. It comes with scanning software to help manage the quality of the scan, color scale, and the expected scanning options, but it is not the Canon Pro software which I have in the past to help organize and manage the scanned images. It does scan fairly quickly on low dpi settings, about 7 seconds per page. If you adjust for higher dpi scans, it will take longer. It handles double-sided single page scanning very well. The big question with portable scanners is always the feed, and I found it to be fairly average. It can get finicky with multiple pages, especially if scanning double-sided documents. There are paper guides that makes scanning easier for smaller documents, like receipts. The quality of the scans were very nice, just what you'd expect from a Canon device. Overall, this is a good portable scanner especially for smaller jobs, but expect multiple page scans to be a bit more complicated.

Tried this with both my Mac (5 years old) and my Windows laptop (new, 6 months old). Software popped right up when the scanner is plugged into the Mac (nifty). For the Windows laptop I found the scanner on the D: - simply dragged it to my desktop and it created a shortcut to use the scanner. Both were super easy. The documents scanned produce a beautiful clear replica of the original document.
