Great camera for taking on vacation and travel as a back up to my DSLR. This point and shoot has some cool features, one being the creative mode. I use this camera mostly for work, being an Architect and having to photo construction progress as well as old buildings for remodel. The camera works good in low light, has an adequate zoom for close shots of building details. It is light weight, easy to handle, and great in the field.

    DSLR replacement

I bought this to use in Europe instead of my DSLR. I wanted a point and shoot instead of setting up, choosing lenses etc. We were doing tours which doesn't allow using that kind of time. During testing I thought that the pictures looked good. On the trip a flaw came out, focus is more bothersome than I would like. At night, unless the subject is close (where the green light and help) or is well lit, it will not focus up well. I would have thought that it would go to infinity. Now my DSLR doesn't do that either, but you can switch to manual and do what you need. Also while in the bus, at times it wouldn't focus outside of the window. Instead, it would focus on the window itself. I had to get right up to the window for it to focus correctly. The other thing that I think can be a problem, is that when the flash is deployed, it seems very flimsy and vulnerable. I noticed that when I was looking at initially, but instead of worrying about it, I got the extended coverage. On the other hand, I like that I had to manually deploy it, so there were some nice night shots that an automatic flash would have ruined. All in all, it was basically what I had expected from it. I did like the high zoom factor which gave me some closer shots than the others around me.

This camera is rather heavy compared to the Cannon Powershot. The picture quality is good although sometimes it is difficult to get it to focus the way you would want. The zoom is really nice and quality of picture when at full zoom is good. It is still small enough to fit in a pocket and that makes it a great travel camera without the bulk of a bigger SLR. After owning many different point and shoot cameras I still had to read the instruction book to figure out some of the settings. The learning curve is easy and instructions good. The video feature is excellent as well. All in all I am pleased with this camera.

I wanted a camera that was recommended to me by a professional birder. It was fairly easy to use but I ultimately decided that this camera was smaller, lighter, easier to carry and really met my needs. Its easy to use and takes a great picture. Many useful and easy to use settings.

This is a small form-factor, light weight, easy to carry camera that has many excellent features. The 30x optical zoom is powerful, but a little jerky in trying to stop at some midpoint. Videos are extremely easy to use with reasonably good audio. Video quality is excellent. Using an inexpensive 64GB memory chip you can get 16,000 photos, or 8 hours of video, or some combination thereof stored on the camera. Battery life is very good. Included software to connect to a PC is adequate, but nothing special. Display is crisp and does a good job. On screen control/setting displays are excellent and can be limited and/or turned-off if you don't like the clutter. Actually, there are so many options on this camera, that first use can be somewhat daunting. Ignore all the special features at first - the "Auto" setting does an excellent job. If the camera suggests "raising the flash" you can usually ignore that advice and still get good quality pictures. While a little pricey for a small camera, it is worth every penny.

Shot to shot speed is excellent. Zoom is outstanding. Focus is not tack sharp but is acceptable. Color saturation is not up to usual Canon standards . Some buttons can cause battery drain because they can be active when you think the camera is off. The manual is very weak on some points like getting the connection between the camera and am iPad . I used it extensively on. Recent 2 week trip (1000 pic)

We wanted a smaller camera with high resolution and video, and we wanted something easy to use and smaller to carry in a pocket or purse. This one does it all, great images, easy functions and did everything we wanted it to do.

This camera is easy to use and I liked the 30x zoom. The size is flat enough to slip into a pants pocket. Daylight pictures are very good; however, nighttime pictures are only good. However, I could not get the WIFI connection to up load photos to my computer to work. The Zeek Squad said they would not help me unless I had a contract. What a shame that a consumer can not get support for a brand new product without spending more money to make the item perform as advertised! If asked, I would point out the WIFI difficulty to a potential buyer.

This is a great little camera to take out and about. It is lightweight and fits in a pocket. It is designed nicely with a spot for your hand to hold the camera steady when taking photos. The dials are pretty much self-explanatory so there is no need to constantly check the instruction manual. Some people may not like the fact that you must manually raise the flash. However, I have not found this to be an issue. The camera takes great pictures in low light situations. It responds very efficiently, so it is easy to take multiple shots quickly. I used this camera for the first time on a recent trip to Disneyland and kept remarking that I was so glad that I had made this purchase. The quality of the photos was amazing. Colors were accurate and sharp and the subjects were clear and distinct. My pictures were beautiful!

Best point-shoot camera we ever owned

He previously had an ELF from 10 yrs ago. We decided to upgrade and can't be happier. You'll see all the great comments about image quality but I wanted to emphasize two features. 1. Wifi transfer to my tablet is so convenient. I don't have to take the SD card out and can get the images uploaded to the cloud via my OneDrive and/or Dropbox account on my tablet. 2. Zoom is super impressive and I wanted to show actual pictures and have uploaded shots from Cabo showing a condo and a boat.

Before leaving for vacation, I bought this camera to replace another Canon with a lens that did not retract and required a lens cap that I had to attach with a cord. This camera is better than my Canon PowerShot SX500 IS and fits nicely in my purse or fanny pack. The lens retracts and covers, which was a great feature for me. Great pictures and video with pretty decent sound. I am no camera expert but I have had digital cameras since the Apple Quick Take and this is the best lightweight camera I have owned so far. The size is great, the price was right! Nice responsive zoom; controls are typical Canon controls that I am used to. I usually leave my camera in "auto" mode but I know I can use the manual controls when I need to. I bought an extra battery but during the entire three days at Disneyland, we didn't need to charge it more than one time and we shot quite a lot of video! And, while shooting video, I was able to zoom easily in and out when needed. I am very happy with this camera and am very glad that I bought it.

Camera exceeds expectations. Major pluses: 35X Zoom,, excellent resolution, easy operating system, small size. Minuses: only 230 images per battery charge, at f/3.7 low light performance is marginal. Overall it's definitely money's worth (cost $299) and clearly beats all competitors..

Did not want to lug my DSLR every where when a smaller camera would do. With so many to choose from I researched a lot. I choose this camera. It has almost as many functions as my DSLR and the picture quality is amazing. Low light pictures are good. Overall a very well priced camera with great options and I bet years of great service.

I used to use a Canon Rebel but then I changed to a Canon Powershot SX 30. With this camera I have increased to 20 megapixels photos from my SX710 HS. I love photographing water falls. This camera has the option of taking continuous shots (without a video recording). I can take a lot of pictures of a waterfall and choose the one which has the best water droplets. I use the fastest shutter speeds possible and the highest ISO. It has wifi to download to my computer and it is the smallest camera I have used so it is easier to carry when hiking and climbing to get the right waterfall picture. I love the high resolution because I blow up my pictures and print parts of them at high ppi. Sometimes I print pictures on fabric and make them into quilts. I made one quilt that was 36 x 45 inches from one picture. Supposedly this camera doesn't have as good images in low light because the images are not as sharp. But I haven't shot any in very low light yet.

I actually bought 2 of these prior to a trip to Disney, I have 2 Canon DSLR's but honestly got tired of the weight and bulk these caused. During the day camera functions pretty awesome, used a lot of the sports mode for moving shots and its quick focus, no real complaints for day time use. Night time is a while different animal, flash on = lengthy focus times (don't try to point and shoot here). When you don't have to worry about time or making it 'quick' its ok, but the lag time and length of time from push to picture costs us some shots. In the camera's defense, I should have done more shooting with it prior to the trip, but I figured set to auto and go. 1080p video - Kills batteries within minutes. I put a newly charged battery, took about 4 minutes of video, using (on all photos and video)SanDisk Extreme Plus 90mb/s 32gb cards. from new to flashing battery dying in that time. I haven't tested it much to see if I could have adjusted for anything but review is on what I done so far. Overall happy with the purchase, only wish on my end is that I had done a little more testing. Defiantly worth the $259 price tag on each of the 2 I bought.

So far, comparing with my big Canon 28 -55 mm lens at Macro, it blows the DSLR away in Depth of Field, an OMG, Rapid shots! Video is beautiful as well. Now I will compare with the DSLR and 500mm max zoom and I am guessing there will be a tie on that one.

I purchased this camera specifically to take on vacation with me. I had a older Canon PowerShot and it has always worked well but it isn't as portable. I wanted something that I could slip into my pocket with many if not all or more of the same features of my current camera. This compact model performed flawlessly. It took great pictures, was easy to learn ow to use, and it has a power meter, something that I missed on the older model. I would post some example pictures but they are all of the highest quality and larger than this site allows.

Easy to operate and navigate thru options. Would prefer to have see thru focus point to save battery. Battery life a little disappointing, but if you plan ahead it works. Zoom is great. Brings shots up close and personal.
