Cave Story was an odd experience for me because I bought it thinking it was an action RPG only to quickly realize it's much more of a platformer with RPG elements. Despite this (and the fact I'm not a big platformer fan) this games charm and creative game play won me over. I appreciated the creative and somewhat silly story. The retro art style is well executed. The platforming challenges were mostly fun and only occasionally rage inducing. The end of the game does get quite difficult though.

An odd control scheme and very little tutorial does not detract from this being one of the most endearing 'nindies' to finally find its way to the Nintendo Switch. With surprisingly deep customisation and brilliant level design combined with a great soundtrack this is a must have for any fan of the 'Metroidvania' genre. An additional incentive to purchase the physical copy of this game is what comes with it. Included with the game is an awesome booklet of controls and original artwork, reminicient of the booklets that used to come with games in the late 80's/early 90's. And that's not all...also included is a cd minidisc of several tracks of the soundtrack for those who really got into the music of 'Cave Story'. The learning curve is a bit rough at first due to a slightly different control scheme (down arrow to enter door!) but is a small price to pay once gotten used to. All in all very much worth getting the physical edition of this fun and challenging game. Highly Recommend!

Cave Story brings you into this interesting world with a great story. The mechanic of this game has to do with picking up triangles that upgrade your weapons. If you get hit though, your weapons will degrade and you will have to collect more triangles. It makes for a much different kind of shooter where the risk of getting hit is not only health but also your weapon power. The story is cute and the characters are lovable. I would highly recommend this game !

Cave Story is a classic 2D platformer that is free-to-play on PC. However, this version has extra content that is not available in the free version. That being said, it's a bit expensive for what you get, so I would wait for a discount.

Cave Story has an interesting story with charming characters. It may be a bit overpriced for a game that was free years ago but with added updates like the added co-op, the improved quality of life in some parts, and better graphics make it a more worthwhile purchase especially for first-timers like me. I would also like to note that the physical copy comes with a manual. Keychains are included but only if purchased from Gamestop unfortunately. I would recommend to people who have yet played the game and who enjoy challenging platformers.

The game is a fun, challenging retro style platformer that feels right at home on a Nintendo console. The game is fully remastered with updated graphics and music soundtrack, but also features the ability to select original graphics and/or music. This physical version also contains a full game manual and original soundtrack on a mini CD, which makes it feel like a premium package. Would highly recommend to all Switch owners.

This throwback to the golden age of gaming is quite fun. This copy came with a booklet and soundtrack. This game is addictive and fun. It's a very cool game!

I had never played Cave Story before, somehow, despite being immersed in the indie game scene since 2010 or so. Luckily, Nicalis released a version on Switch (one of the rare physical releases of this content!) and I took the plunge, being quite a fan of sidescrolling action, puzzle and exploration games like Braid, Metroid, and Shovel Knight. Unfortunately, Cave Story+ left me slightly disappointed. It's a very good game overall, and the presentation here is excellent, but it does little to distinguish itself from a world with numerous similar games to play. This isn't to say that it's not worth paying; I just think $30 is a little steep for an experience that doesn't surpass more recent entries in its genre. That's hardly the game's fault, having been developed during a drought of similar titles, but it would have made more of an impression on me ten years ago than it does in 2017. With that said, there are a handful of particularly nice features unique to this version. In particular, the instructional booklet packaged alongside the game is a treat, inspired by the days of NES game booklets. In short, if you can get this game on a discount, even through the Best Buy Gamer's Club, I'd recommend it. Just don't go in looking for a transcendent experience.

This version is the definitive version. It's the best portable version and the best big screen version too. The slight graphic update modernizes it while still keeping a completely retro feel. The controls are perfect with a pro controller. I'm really happy with it and the port is great; I've had no bugs or issues.

I'm really glad I was able to pick up a copy of this game so late after the release. Great title, everyone should try, especially great on the go.

This game is a modern classic and probably one of the best “indie” games of all time. Fans of metroidvania style games should check it out.

One of the indie games I was super excited to see come to switch. If you haven’t played it yet it’s well worth picking up for switch.

This is an indie classic that makes a perfect fit on the switch. Love the little touches with the soundtrack and manual included.

Havent beat the game, but the frist level is reallly really hard. I mean you need to be able to jump and shoot at the same time. make sure to dodge the bees!

I never played this on any earlier systems, but this seems like a great port. Controls are easy, and it takes me back with the retro graphics. Only just begun, but I like it a lot.

Cave Story has been around for years as a freeware release on PC, but the Switch version makes a strong case for purchase. The included retro-style manual and CD soundtrack are nice additions, and the remastered music and graphics are a huge improvement over the original release. This version is a little pricey, but I feel the game has enough charm and replayability to warrant a look.

Cave Story has been around for a decade, but this is the game's first physical release, and it really feels like the ultimate edition of the game. It has updated visuals, allows you to choose between several versions of the soundtrack, comes with a great physical instruction manual and soundtrack cd, and an upcoming download will let you switch between the original and new graphics.

The game is a challenge so be prepared for that and to get a soundtrack and booklet inside a switch game is a plus

Son was asking for His one and he has played it a lot since getting it. He’s happy with it and says it’s fun.
