Fantastic Speakers without breaking the bank

I unpackaged the speakers from the box which was organized well and had no issues getting everything out to assemble. The manual is very direct and straight forward for people with minimal or no experience setting up speakers. Upon setting the speakers up I felt that Cerwin Vega did a great job of including everything you need in one package to get you up and running.
The Sound when I first loaded a Stevie Ray Vaughn cd was bone chilling amazing, I felt like he was in my living room playing his guitar. I have the speakers setup on my desk on either side of my monitor, well the way the speakers produce the sound it kind of embraces you and it feels like the music is all around you, I literally put my head to my monitor because the sound appeared to be coming right out of his amplifier on my screen, I was watching a concert. These speakers have fantastic bass for a small speaker and a switch to turn the bass boost on and off. The high's and mid frequencies sound very very good as well, Now I had Logitech before with a sub woofer so I thought these wouldn't carry bass that well, Guess what they do an amazing job carrying out the bass, it's not just boomy air or filler like some sub woofers sound. Coming from regular pc speakers I was blown away by how articulate the sound was, So crisp and clear. 3 dimensional sounding speakers if you ask me. I have lots of old tube amps and play guitar so I like to say I have a good ear for tone.
I listen to blues and classic rock and they hold up really well, i could see if you listened to Rap or any kind of shake your booty music with tons of bass you may want to get something with a bigger sub woofer included. The bass sound's true for what I listen to but I know how alot of that electronica music use's an immense amount of low low bass frequencies.
They are put together well and have a nice bottom adhevise pad so they won't slide on any surface, my desk happens to have a glass top and they don't budge, nice feature. They are cosmetically good looking and don't take up to much room.
The volume on these speakers is very loud and because of the 3 dimensional sound you don't have to turn them up that loud if you are just listening to things on your computer. If you are buying these for stereo speakers then i wouldn't recommend them as they are for a desktop pc system, they do have an mp3 input which sounds very nice and they do go loud, The speakers are a very loud 15 watts each and my wife on the second floor could hear the songs playing with ease, and I was down in the finished basement.
I know i'm all over the place here, don't ever review products but I had to take the time to say how pleased and wowed i am with these speakers. You could spend 79 dollars on Logitech 7.1 pc speaker system and they wont touch what these Cerwin Vega's sound like. For 2 speakers it sound's like the whole band is playing in front of you.
I would summarize these as very loud speakers with crisp highs, tight low end,not boomy, mids perfectly centered and you can actually hear things you normally wouldn't pickup in songs. I heard Morocco's in a song by the band Free that I never have heard before in the song.
Spend the 99 dollars and save yourself the time and energy from buying 3 or 4 cheap 40dollar sets of speakers, Cerwin Vega has been around and all the reviews but one are all positive. I cannot say enough how pleased i am, instead of playing my les paul right now, I am writing this review so I hope that shows how serious I am about my love for these little guys. If your in the market for decent speakers for your computer system I give these my stamp of approval.

Expected a lot more from this speaker. Cerwin Vega is a big speaker company and these speakers did not live up to brand. The bass response is poor. Can not turn volume up because the quality sounds horrible. I use these speakers as monitors for mixing, head phones sound a thousand times better.

ok i had some bose companion II in my room (12x12) that i thought were great, but were not loud enough and lacked bass, so i got these cerwin vegas. i was turned off at first because it said 30 watts but let me tell you these are the loudest computer speakers your going to find. i used to turn my bose up all the way and these are louder at half power..no joke! the sound quality is like none other.. i have never heard anything as good as these, not even my dads double base sony 7000 tower speakers sound as good as these. these things sound like atleast 6 inch woofers or more with all the bass they produce. bose are good for classical music and acoustic, but if you want REAL speakers for rock hip hop and rap, trust me you have to get these. they may be 100 bucks but you get what you pay for and i am telling you the sound they produce is worth more than that. simply these are amazing!

I've been a fan of Cerwin Vega! speakers for years. I've used many different brands of speakers for my computer as well as my home theater, and Cerwin Vega! speakers always deliver on sound quality, regardless of price. These desktop speakers are no exception. They've amazed me and have reaffirmed my faith in Cerwin Vega!
These speakers are built insanely well, from the smooth finish, quality materials, attractive facade, and the foam rubber base that covers the entire base, unlike cheaper or lesser speakers I've used with only pads. These are designed for the audio enthusiast who doesn't have money for $500 studio monitors and doesn't want 6 speakers to achieve good sound. I've listened to all types of music (Beethoven to Metallica and everything in between) and have been amazed at the sound, not even considering they are only $100.
I wasn't impressed with how hot the built in amp can get when at medium to high levels, but this wasn't unexpected for the price, the size, and the power. I think you should replace the included speaker wire with a higher gauge wire, but otherwise it's fine at normal levels. Just remember with better wire comes less strain on the amp--it doesn't really affect quality in speakers of this grade. No reason to buy $200 speaker cable for $100 speakers!
I also wasn't impressed with the distortion I was experiencing at high volumes, but I realized I had the "Vega-Bass" feature enabled AND the equalizer in iTunes wasn't set to "Flat", as these speakers are intended to be used with Flat settings. If you modify the EQ and enable Vega-Bass, keep the volume below 75% or you will get some mild distortion. If you keep a Flat EQ and use Vega-Bass, feel comfortable at up to around 90% volume, which is insanely loud.
These aren't meant to replace $1000 home theater setups, but for a desk in a decent environment, they're fantastic. I give them a full five stars for anyone not doing mission-critical sound work, as Cerwin-Vega! speakers have a tendency to be a bit bass-heavy. Great for consuming media and monitoring recording if you keep the bass in check though.
I definitely recommend getting these, even if they're not on display at your local Best Buy. I've recommended a 100' spool of Monster Cable but you don't need 100' of this cable. Try to find around 10 feet and you'll be okay.

Best Speakers to Amplify Computer

We needed speakers to help us hear You Tube and DVD instructional videos more clearly as the built-in computer speakers were not up to the task.
We were favorably impressed with these in the Bust Buy showroom when compared to the lower priced sets. These Cerwin-Vega speakers have great bass and midrange. Really amazing speakers for the size and price. Unless you are some sort of audio purist (and audio purists wouldn't buy a $99 speaker set anyway) you are going to be amazed by the volume and quality of sound you will be enjoying. Don't waste your money on the lower priced computer speaker sets. Have a listen in the Best Buy store and decide for yourself. Best computer speakers for the money! We are rocking out here on Pandora in the home office as a side benefit!

As an audiophile I was really skeptical as how these would perform but was blown away when I got them home. Clear highs and mids. Bass is good. I wasn't planning on a room shaking bass so this was perfect. The bass boost switch gives it a little more bass but when the volume is turned up distortion is plain as day. As these are speakers that are not meant to reproduce bass at that level. I thought that a 100 watt system was gonna be perfect for me but this 30 combined watts is more than enough for my small entertainment room of 16x10. My cousin who has a 5.1 Logitech system says these sound so much better. He's gonna give away his system and maybe buy these too. The worst part? They're not broken in yet. Like cars, speakers have a break-in period. Awesome speakers.

Perfect entry level monitors for home studios
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I`m going to start by saying that monitor speakers were one of the last things I needed to complete my home studio. I was pricing monitor speakers at Guitar Center and realized that entry level recording monitors were going to run me at least $150 per speaker, which was a bit much for me financially. I was wondering around Best Buy last week and bumped into these Cerwin Vega XD3s. I figured "Why not..." being $100 for the whole pair. I was hoping to have stumbled onto a total gem that in turn saves me money,.. and I DID! These sound great! I haven't had the pleasure of getting to hear some REALLY expensive studio monitors, but I do have a great ear for music and sound quality, and the XD3`s sound good enough for anyone starting up a home recording studio on a budget. They do seem to be very picky on the quality of the audio coming through them, basically they let you know it when you are playing low quality audio through them (check those bit rates audiophiles). Lastly, just keep in mind that just as any speaker does, they definitely require breaking in. That thought makes me even more happy about the XD3s because they are only going to get better! I haven't had much listening time yet, but all my software instruments in Logic Pro 9 sound VERY rich and real, especially strings. One more thing that I absolutely love about these is the Vega Bass switch! I have it on when I listen to music because I like strong, punching bass, but when I am recording I turn it off for that flat studio monitor sound, and they accomplish a very flat sound. To my ear not one frequency range seems stronger than any of the others.... unless Vega Bass is on, then the kick drum, bass guitar, and low guitar notes (palm mutes) definitely pop out a bit more.

First of, I've been debating whether to get this or Bose C2. Bose has definitely has clarity in midrange out the box. Cerwin Vega has power right out of the box, but midrange is lacking, especially when watching movies. But then, I have Asus Xonar card and after using equalizer it sound great now. I got this for $80 and if you have enough room and don't mind having subwoofer I'd recommend Klipsch Pro-Media for $135 (on sale). Mind you that this is not going to blow your house, although this is still loud, but it is sufficient for my needs.

These speakers ROCK! I had bought a pair of Bose computer speakers for the same $99, and was unhappy about the lack of volume, and overall sound quality. I took them back and a savvy salesman walked me over to the 'bookshelf speaker' section and showed me these. Not only do these sound WAY better, they have LOTS of volume available. They are solidly built as a rock, have a sep. tweeter and bass, and sub-woofers in the back. They look great, and do not take up a lot of space. I could not be happier. Thank you Best Buy salesman!

I have always liked Cerwin Vega so I though I would give these a try. I have read here that they are shallow and pathetic and they have no bass and they just sound flat. I am using an Alienware PC with no extra software, just easy media player to play FLAC and WMA Audio Files and 320 MP3 files. The Cerwins sound great to me, they have a nice tight Bass which is not to over bearing and you have to remember the subs are 3" big. The high end is very clear up to almost 90 % volume and the Bass just starts to get some slight distortion. I do wish the mids were a tad better but Its okay. These speakers will get really loud for there size and they have a great soundstage. One thing I did notice is they have to be at 1/3 volume or higher to start to really sound good and at 1/2 or 3/4 they are flat out rediculious for there size. I am very happy I bought these and Cerwin Vega has again not let me down with there product. Oh, and they come with a 5 year limited warrenty from Cerwin which is great. If there is any negatives it would be that the left speaker which has the power supply and amp in it does get warm to hot after a couple of hours of use, and that's where the on and off switch is. But it no big deal to me. Again very good little speakers for the $100.

It is about the audio source with these.

They look very appealing and have a good box unlike logic-tech speakers. It might be cause I am a fan of stage monitors(the speakers that face the band in a concert) and PA speaker look.
Anyways, I noticed these speakers are very picky in the audio source, which is not good or bad, it is just a thing. Good quality audio in, get you good quality out, bad quality in and you will know it. Basically it translates to your high bit rate music sounding better, and being able to pick up on the loss of quality in your lower bit rate/quality mp3. I might even say these take roots more from speakers used to monitor sound in a studio than speakers used for casual listening.
The bass is not ground moving but it is there and more than enough for listening to music. A bass head looking to "listen" with their body more than their ears should invest into a dedicated sub-woofer.
So if you care about your sound, you want speakers that produce accurate sound for sub $300 and you are okay with using CDs or high quality sound files then these are great.

I bought this on a whim to replace a Bose Companion set hooked up to a Sony TV in my "manly retreat". The Bose set may be ok for a PC but they don't have enough dynamic range or low end for the TV.
I have a full multi-channel sound system for the TV, but sometimes I just want to boost the volume and bass a bit without cranking up the fancy stereo system. I was fully prepared to take the Cerwin Vegas back if they failed to cut the mustard, but I am really pleased with the sound. There is no discernible distortion even at full volume. I also decided to use a Y jack to send the signal to a rarely used powered subwoofer, which adds just enough additional bass. This setup works so well i really don't need the multi-speaker sound system.

I took back a set of Bose Companion 2 due to poor sound to purchase the Klipsch ProMedia until I noticed these on the shelf for the same price as the Bose. These speakers have more power and the sound is much clearer, and the bass is clearer. I think the previous reviewer received a bad set as I do not have any hum even at full volume and the bass is clear but not earth shaking, but that is expected from the lack of a sub woofer. The only negative I have is that the power switch is located on the back, but I was aware of that when I purchased the item.

Great speakers for a small room

I bought this set of speakers for my college apartment and they sound AMAZING! The sound quality is clear with a good balance of mids and highs. Bass is not boomy, but not bad. They can get pretty loud without any distortion either. I pair this set of speakers with my Polk Audio PSW10 10" subwoofer and it is a great, inexpensive setup for my room.
I was split between the Cerwin Vega XD3 speakers vs. the M-Audio AV30 speakers (both at Best Buy) and ended up giving this pair a shot even though it was a little more expensive.
Appearance wise, they are well constructed with a good weight to them. It was easy to set up and the red light around the volume knob adds a nice touch.

I was in the market for a small footprint computer speaker system for my bedroom. It's meant to take the place of the TV speakers that my PC is connected to. I've found that the Cerwin Vegas is just as good as the clarity of the Bose Companion 2 and still give me the right amount of bass for movies.
Since it is used for a bedroom, I didn't want to deal with a subwoofer and so far, I'm not missing it. If you've own Cerwin Vegas before, you know what I'm talking about.

For those who don't know the name, Cerwin Vega is a major brand in stage speakers. These wooden body speakers are head and shoulders above anything else in the $99 range. They have a small sub built in if you want a little bass and dont have room.
They are perfect for a desktop, have a very clean look and great sound for gaming. They don't compare to my Klipsch 2.1 for pure quality, but they cost considerably less. You will NOT be disappointed for your $99.

I am a bit of an audiophile, my main system has ($850) monitor speakers driven by a ($1,300) receiver. I just picked these up the XD3 from Best Buy today and am very happy with them. They sound way bigger than the price suggests. I compared them side by side with my $850 speakers and i was impressed at how they had tonal similarities, and how well the XD3's held up in general.
When looking for a speaker that is portable and inexpensive there are many limitations, size and durability. The only other desktop speaker of this size that I considered paying more money for is the $199 Brand X, which got great reviews from many audiophile magazines, among many many others. The problem is that the X does not have speaker grills and we all know that speakers with exposed drivers get damaged, ever seen speakers without grills at Best Buy? Well, it just so happens that Best Buy is currently the only retailer selling the XD3.
Just a little advice, if you are considering any other speakers, give these a listen, I think you will redirect your funds to a better buy, the XD3.

I recently purchased these and they sound great. The first thing I did was plug in my iPod and played several genres of music to see how they performed. My conclusion is that there are great for rock music but not so much for hip hop. I can crank it up pretty loud with rock but at the same levels the hip hop became distorted. Other than that I really enjoy them.
