I never thought of myself as someone who would use an electric blanket, or in this case a cooling mattress cover, but here we are. Installing this thing from beginning to end is actually easier than I thought. The mattress cover is secured to the bed with straps. I guess it's a nice touch to keep it from falling off during sleep. The main hydro unit is the size of a lunch box. (Use distilled water or prepare yourself for a nice buildup of minerals) Connecting all of the hoses was simple enough. The unit comes with a remote which is a nice touch. The lack of a shut off timer is a disappointment. Even my $50 fan has a timer... I digress. One thing you have to remember is that the mattress cover takes about 20-30 minutes to hit the temperature that you're desiring. (I have yet to experiment with a smart plug and smart speaker to see if I can set it on a timer. Maybe for an update review) I thought the ridges on the mattress cover would make it a bit weird and uncomfortable, but it didn't hinder my sleeping at all. I prefer to be cooler during sleep, and having it set to 68, it did a great job of keeping me from experiencing night sweats. I also tried it on heat, and while it doesn't heat up as fast as an electric blanket, it did keep me toasty. (By the way, with a product named ChiliSleep, I found it odd that is also heats... name is misleading) The only thing that may be a deal breaker for some is that the main lunch box sized unit gives off white/static noise. This is mostly from the fan that I assume controls the temperature. I personally didn't mind it since I'm a heavy sleeper, but if you're the type of is a light sleeper, this may not give you a good night's rest. The only shocker for me is the actual price. This thing costs more than my mattress. I've never owned something like this, so I don't know what the average life expectancy is or how it's repaired, but I can't imagine that it's cheap. What would have been great is if this thing could change temperature on a timer setting. (Starts out at 68 on sleep, then three hours later goes to 70, and then two hours later 72, then shuts off an hour before waking up) All in all, it does that it says, along with heating... I can see this being very useful in summer and winter. (I just wish the remote had more options, or in this day and age who doesn't make an app for their device. I'm surprised it's not called the "Smart Cube Sleep Hydropower Mattress.") At the price however, I'm not sure if it's a must have...

    Subtle Comfort For Better Sleep

I'm a big guy and I naturally "run hot" even at night when I sleep so the opportunity to try the ChiliSleep Cube Heating/Cooling Mattress pad seemed like it would be awesome! In my head I would put this magic pad on my bed, set the temperature to an almost cold setting and I would sleep without sweating even under the three blankets my wife prefers to have. The reality is somewhat less dramatic but still impressive but I want to clarify just what my experience was and urge you to consider the pros and cons. First up, the unit comes in a box with the mattress pad in a drawstring bag and the Cube (the reservoir/temperature control/power supply) with an instruction booklet which contains some tips for a quality night sleep using the ChiliSleep product. Mine came as a half king size pad with an elastic strap that runs from top to bottom of the pad so you can wrap it around the mattress long ways to keep it on. This is a pro, you can set the temperature you sleep with without having to commit to a full bed width pad which may differ from your partner's preferred temperature (I can sleep cool and my wife can sleep warm at the same time). The pad itself is much thinner than I assumed from reading the description, with tiny tubes that carry water from the Cube unit through a flexible foam tube into the mattress and back out again. And I know what you're thinking but no you can't really feel the tubes when you lay on it, so if you can't sleep with wrinkles or bumps you won't have to worry. You connect the foam tube to the back of the Cube unit, and you can arrange the pad to place the tube at the head or foot of your bed depending where you plan to place the Cube. Fill the Cube with distilled water, plug it in and turn it on so it can cycle the water into the pad then fill again until the system is full and charged (about a third to half a gallon of Distilled water in my experience). The booklet suggests giving the system about 20 minutes to warm or cool your spot in bed, and here's a big con with the system: unless I missed something you can't program a start time and it has no timer to turn off either. Essentially it runs however long you have it powered on, no more and no less. Temperature control is set either on the Cube or via a remote control between 55 degrees and 110 degrees, I tried both trying to get a literal feel for the extreme high and low. This is my big caveat for anyone thinking of using this, that feeling you get climbing into a freshly changed bed all cool and fresh? Its not there when you set ChiliSleep to 55 degrees. Coldest setting doesn't feel cold when you get in. Highest setting should be like climbing into a beach towel right from the dryer but it feels no different climbing into bed after even a 45 minute warm up. Further, if you need to change the temperature at some point in the night you should wear sunglasses because the lights on the top of this are SUPER BRIGHT and when I made an adjustment at 1am the other night my room illuminated like someone turned their cell phone flashlight on which upset my wife as well as both my eyeballs. I solved the problem by placing a dry wash cloth over it and just using the remove (still bright but much smaller light source). OK, so my expectations were maybe too high because actually sleeping with the ChiliSleep Cube system on the coolest setting I didn't sweat at all, so that's a win! On the highest setting I laid in bed for about 10-15 minutes before I had to kick off the sheet (no blankets) and only a couple more minutes before I turned the temperature down real low. This means that you will be cooled or heated by the ChiliSleep Cube but its not a dramatic first impression getting into bed. One important note for setting up though, you need space on all four sides for the air to vent and it vents plenty! I originally set the Cube on my night stand which is nearly level with my head and that was a no go because it just blows warm air right out into my face, I opted to put it on the floor beside the bed and ChiliSleep recommended putting at the foot or under the bed on either end you pick (head or foot). Final thought: really impressive idea that works great if you get past the pictures in your head reading the features standing in line to buy it. You won't have that fresh bed coolness on cold or that dryer heat on hot but given time throughout the night it will keep you at the temperature you need. I recommend not adjusting in the middle of the night unless you have no sensitivity to bright lights suddenly lighting up a dark room.

We live in Phoenix so the summers get really warm here and we keep the thermostat around 78 in the summer to avoid $500+ air conditioning bills. When I saw this unit to keep the bed cool, I wanted to give it a try. First the positives: It is very easy to setup...just put the mattress pad under the sheets, fill the unit with distilled water, and plug the unit into the pad. That's pretty much it. It comes with a remote control so you can quickly change the temperature settings without needing to get out of bed. You can set the temp anywhere between 55 and 115 degrees. I started at the lowest setting and the temperature says it is about 59 degrees. This works perfectly for me since it usually doesn't get that cool with the sheets on. The other positive is that it is very quiet. I don't hear it running over the fan in my room. The negatives: There are only a couple of negatives I really have, the price and it only covers half the bed.. If you buy it, note that it only covers half the bed (we may try keeping it in the middle of the bed to see if it will cool both of us down during the summer). Overall, very easy to setup and I slept much better since I was cooler. I would recommend this to anyone willing to pay the price for this.

Controlling the temperature of my bed is something that I have found to be a game changer for me. More specifically the ability to be able to cool the bed since an electric blanket fixed the heating issue for me. Nonetheless,, the Chili sleep pad does come with its unique pros and cons to consider, especially with its extreme price tag. PROS - Cools almost immediately - Ice Cube (the main pump for the unit) is easy to understand - Has a remote for easy adjustment - cools and heats for hours - Product adjusts between 55 - 115 degrees CONS - Needs extra tubing so the cube and tubing can be hidden; tubing is external and unattractive. Looks like some kind of medical therapy device in my bedroom - THERE IS NO AUTO TURN OFF FEATURE! This is the absolute worst part of this machine. It needs a timer or auto off for overnight use. - Instructions aren't as straightforward "for dummies" I'd say they should be A few other things to take note of -- everything below 62 degrees feels like you're laying on a wet mattress. You can at first feel the tubing through the pad. The pad has a cooling side and a comfy side, but seems like a headache to change frequently. Also, be aware that it takes 20-30 minutes for the device to heat up, depending on the selected temperature. It also makes a gentle "white noise" as it pumps...it actually helps me fall asleep better. Overall. Nonetheless, even with the cons described, this is a fairly good option for those who get hot at night.

Easing into a cool night sleep

For years, I’ve battled with comfortable sleeping temperatures. I typically overheat and I’ve tried a variety of devices to help remedy that problem. Oscillating fans that point right at me end up causing me to have headaches in the morning and fans that route under the covers just get my feet cold. I really wanted to find something that would cool my entire body - head to toe. The mattress pad from ChiliSleep seemed to be a decent option for me. I have a king size Sleep Number bed with a split mattress. So, I ordered the Half King option. Installation of the mattress pad was easy. I simply unfolded the pad and laid it flat on the mattress. The mattress pad is hydro-powered and it can heat or cool the bed between 55º - 115º. There are tubes that run from the cube control unit and the mattress pad. The tubes deliver the heated or cooled water to the mattress pad and they lock into place on the mattress pad and cube. The instructions suggest that you ‘preheat’ or ‘precool’ the mattress pad for about 30 minutes before using it. After about 5 minutes, I did notice the mattress pad starting to feel cool, but I would agree that the longer it was on, the cooler it got. I’ve used the mattress pad for a few nights now and have been happy with the results I've gotten. I have felt cooler throughout the night and woken up feeling more refreshed then when I don’t use it. I have tried other cooling pads similar to this, but it only used circulating air to cool it. It never seemed as cool as this mattress pad. So, I really thing the hydro-powered technology helps to regulate the temperature throughout the pad much better than other heating/cooling bed accessories. While the ChiliSleep Cube is a hefty investment, it does get the job done well.

Functions Well, But Lacks Key User Information

This is a difficult product to evaluate, so I’ll keep my comments simple at first, and then expand: The product arrives in a medium all-cardboard box with a smaller box inside. With the exception of some necessary foam to protect the electronic controller (“The Cube”), the packaging is fully recyclable, which is great. The pad arrives in a cinched bag and The Cube the smaller box. Unpacking is a snap. Once installed, the product does work as described (and then some). But there were issues: Installation was a challenge that others are not likely to face. To stabilize the pad there are 2 stretch strap that run parallel to the side of the bed and are intended to be place under the mattress. I ran into a problem, not of the product’s making, but related to my bed. I have an older model SleepNumber with an adjustable base that allows the heads to operate independently, and the foot as one unit. Due to SleepNumber’s strange design, the mattress is screwed to the frame from above, requiring basically a full disassembly of the bed to get under the mattress. I instead chose to run the straps and the tubing under the mattress pad. Filling The Cube, per instructions, was easy as was starting the flow. It would have been wonderful and much neater installation had the manufacturer provide about 3’ more of the dual hose. As you can see in the picture, in order to connect the tubing to The Cube requires it exits the bedding awkwardly and unattractively. With additional length, it could have exited from the top of the king (not California) and be hidden before attaching to The Cube. Surprises abound. First, despite there being no mention in the description or in the minimalist (and incomplete) Instruction Manual, the unit both heats and cools. After contacting the manufacturer, I learned the product is adjustable from 55 – 115 degrees F. This was especially confusing since the pad arrived with large stickers identifying the upper as the “Comfy Side” and the bottom as the “Cooler Side.” Second, the very brief Instruction Manual, such as it is, lacked basic but essential information such as how to synch the remote to The Cube. The company provided a web link with instructions, but shouldn’t such information be included? Sleeping is pleasant. It takes the unit about 30 minutes to reach the designated temperature, and the user needs to be accurate. If you set the temp too high (as I first did) it also takes about a half-hour for the temperature to adjust. The pad is filled with tubing for the hot or cold water to circulate. Most users will feel these why lying atop them. However, I quickly found I was undisturbed by the sensation and felt adjusted to the sensation after 2 nights. Others of course, may not be so adaptable. The bedside Cube has both pumping and heating/cooling equipment in it and does make noise, gentle and “white noise” usually. I found, however, that during the night the steady thrum of the equipment changed to an inconsistent, random noise. The volume did not change, but the stop/start was annoying and awakened me. This may be unique to my sample, but be aware of the possibility. In sum, I’d recommend it—not enthusiastically, but still positively—to those who wish to try a night’s sleep with control, over the bed temperature. The range of 55 – 115 degrees F gives the user a lot of options, but the optimal setting will take some trial and error. My biggest concern is the lack of meaningful/helpful documentation that really is necessary for several functions.

The chill pad comes stored in a nice heavy-duty bag and fits onto your mattress easily with two straps that fit around the mattress. The pad is light and not bulky at all. You place your sheet back over the pad and mattress as normal and it stays firmly in place. Setting up the control unit is as easy as a humidifier. You just snap in the hose from the pad to the connector on the unit, fill it with distilled water and turn it on. You then slowly fill the unit with water as it fills the pad. It took less than a gallon to completely fill. You will want to start it on full heat or cold for about 20 minutes before getting into bed. Then you can easily adjust the temperature from the unit or the included remote. It can go from a toasty heat to a relaxing cool in a matter of minutes. My wife and our dog both love it and look forward to getting under the covers each night. The lights on the unit go out after a short while, which is great while you are sleeping. However, with no lights on, it can be easy to get out of bed and forget to turn it off. I wish it had a light that stayed on to easily remind you that it is on. Overall, I am very satisfied and I am considering purchasing another unit from my son's bed. It is rather expensive but worth every penny for the comfort it provides. The only maintenance is draining and replacing the water on a monthly basis.

Nice but cables are a little short so the unit is left exposed in your bedroom, my kids want to know if mom or dad are sick. The cables can be felt but you forget them after you start to fall asleep, but you remember them again when you get up in the middle of the night. The temperatures are good and I do find it helps me to sleep more comfortably but the background noise is off putting to me a bit but my wife hates the sound as she tries to watch late TV shows or works on her laptops. The bed takes a good 10-20mminutes to get to your set temperatures but I hate the lack of an suyo off timer especially given the price point. Someone at R&D should have their head examined. Overall nice unit but looks scary out in the open in your bedroom and lack of auto off timers, make fir 3.5 stars.

In general, I am a very warm blooded person and get overheated quite easily, especially when I'm sleeping at night, or trying to. I don't sleep well if I get hot, plus I feel a bit claustrophobic when I get hot at night. I've tried various other cooling products like sheets, pillows and mattress pads that are supposed to help keep you cool but none of them have ever been truly successful..until ChiliSleep. The ChiliSleep system is pretty amazing. It consists of a control unit that houses the heating/cooling and water units and then the double-sided mattress pad – cool weave side or cozy softer side – which contains small tubing running throughout. I have the half King pad (XL twin) but you can also get full coverage bed pads in queen, king and california king that have 2 control units if there are two sleepers. That's it. Super simple. Set up was really easy. You just need to find a place next to your bed for the control unit. Make sure to leave plenty of open space around it so that the air intake is unblocked. Place the mattress pad on your mattress either with the connection hose at the head or base on the bed and then connect that hose to the control unit. Finally, fill the control unit with distilled water. Make sure to ONLY use distilled water as it keeps the control unit scale free. You gradually fill the unit as it circulates the water through the mattress tubing. There is also a remote that controls the power and temperature settings. It took a bit of digging online but I couldn't get the remote to work and found out you'll need to first sync it to the control unit, The abridged manual that came in the box leaves out a ton of useful info like this, so go to the ChiliSleep website to find the more robust user manual. For the last week, I've been turning on the unit about 30 minutes before bed to let the mattress pad get nice and chilled. When I get into bed it's super cool and I can adjust the temp either on the control unit or again, via the remote. You can select between any temp between 55F and 115F. So it can keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Right now since it's late summer, I set it to 65F and it keeps cool all night long. No more cool and then hot spots with my previous mattress pads. It has been amazing to have a cool night's sleep for a change. I also ordered some cleaning packets that are needed to keep the system running clean and microbe free. It's recommended that you clean the system every 1 to 3 months with the cleaning solution being run through the unit then then fresh distilled water refilled. I will have to see how hard it is to do but hopefully it will not be troublesome. There are some things I have noticed that could be improved upon as well and that's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. Firstly, the price. It's a pretty expensive system but I have high hopes it will last a long time. Secondly, I have the original CUBE system and it doesn't allow for multi temp cycles throughout the night. You have to manually change the temp if it gets too cold and you want to warm it up a bit. Their more expensive and larger OOLER system does allow that via a connected app. I just wish the CUBE also offered it as well. Thirdly, there is a strong plastic smell that the mattress pad/tubing releases. It smells a bit like a new pool inner tube this first week and I hope that the scent eventually dissipates. It's a bit on an annoyance now but hopefully not too much longer into the future. Lastly, they need to include a FULL user manual in the box. The condensed version I had in the box provides just the basics and leaves out a ton of pertinent info for using and maintaining the system. As I mentioned, you can download this on their website but it requires a little digging to find it. They should make it easier. Overall, I am really enjoying the Cube system from ChiliSleep and looking forward to more comfortable sleep both this summer and now this winter. If you sleep hot or cold, this system can really make a difference!

When I first unboxed this unit I was a little concerned how it would work and feel. Now after having used it for a little while I am completely happy with obtaining this product. It says Chillsleep in the name but it does actually adjust warmer if you require it which is a great add to what I thought was more for if you are warm and need to cool down. I did find out that if you turn it down in the begining I had to adjust a little warmer because I woke up a few times where it was a little cooler than I wanted but after using it I found my setting. Now my other half wants one for there use so we are purchasing one.
