I never realized the need for a rice cooker until my wife brought one into our marriage from her college days. This review is me getting this to replace that tiny little guy, bless him for his work. The 5 quart size is what initially grabbed my attention - not too big and not too small. And talk about multifunction! There are 18 in total, dealing with different rices, grains, and even cooking functions like slow cooking, steaming, and sauteing. This is a machine that can take the place of several appliances at once, and in a day and age where you can never have enough counter space, that is a game changer. The three functions I use the most on this are quick rice, steam, and slow cook. In the normal process, the machine takes six steps to cook the rice. The quick rice function skips several of these to make the process truly as easy as pushing a button. I make a lot of dishes starting with raw veggies, and since steaming versus boiling is nutritionally preferred, I am able to make healthy dishes stay healthy. Throwing a slow cooker into the mix is an awesome extra!

I got my Cosori 5qt rice cooker about a week ago and after using it a few times, I’d say it’s a solid choice for a versatile rice cooker. If you only want a rice cooker, and don’t care about getting it set perfectly for your tastes, there are probably better options for you. You can get cheaper, super basic rice only, 1 touch cookers that are fine. But this device goes a bit beyond that and has been giving us excellent results. You can quickly dial in various types of rice and other grains such as quinoa and oatmeal into the intuitive controls. To make a batch of white long grain rice on the slower setting takes close to an hour. That is nearly twice as long as our basic rice cooker, but the results are noticeably better. Quick setting is just under 40 minutes and seems just slightly less fluffy, but still excellent. We also used it to sauté some beef, cook rice and steam some broccoli to make some incredibly tasty broccoli beef. Though time consuming to do it all on this single device, the results were fantastic. There is also a keep warm setting and a delay timer. The overall design of the cooker is aesthetically pleasing with a black, clean modern look. The control button layout is nice and the timer is big and easy to read from across the room. The lid locking mechanism feels well designed. And perhaps most important to me, it cleans up easy. The non stick bowl and lid both are easily removed and cleaned. Overall I think this cooker is a solid choice. It could be used as a nice multifunctional device for a cramped space such as a dorm room. Or still find value in a larger kitchen where probably wont gets as much out of its multi use features but still produce perfectly cooked rice and grains. I’m giving this device a sold 5* rating and would absolutely recommend it to a friend.

I'm a rice newb. Never really made rice myself before and never used a rice cooker. I like rice, though, so I thought this would be a good buy for my ADHD brain since there's not a ton of steps involved. I was right. It's not an instant process, but it makes good rice and it's mostly a set it and forget it exists until it beeps at you kind of thing so I've been doing well with it. Setup is as easy as it can be. Read the instructions to get an idea of how much rice and water you need and that's about it. You plug in the rice cooker and select the type of rice and it figures out the rest for you. I was a little worried when I winged my first batch of rice and said 50 minutes on the timer. I was also thrown off by the lack of time controls since every other kitchen gadget you use lets you customize the time. It makes sense when you stop and think about it since this cooks the rice until it's done so the timer is just an estimate. After you press start, you just kind of forget about it until you don't. It'll beep at you when it's done but I didn't even notice the beep the first time. After it's done cooking, it'll just start a new timer counting up while it keeps the rice warm. As stated before, I winged my first batch of rice. I basically had read something online a while back that I remembered about just barely covering the rice with the water. I did that and the rice turned out perfect as far as I was concerned. Subsequent batches, I used the measuring cup included and it feels like you basically get the same result. Pretty much always just a little more water than rice. Every batch has turned out great through and the best feature is just hitting start and not needing to do anything else until it's ready. Even as a rice newb, I've at least heard plenty about needing to wash your rice before you cook it. So I can safely say that washing the rice is the only pain point as far as cooking rice is concerned with this cooker. Obviously no fault to the rice cooker there. Once it's washed, it's a really nice set it and forget tool. I'll be eating a lot more rice now. I don't know what else to say about this one. It seems very idiot proof. I've been really lax with my measurements and it always just turns out good. If you're in the market for a rice cooker and this is in your budget, even though I don't have any experience with other cookers, this seems like a good one to me.

I love the look. It’s not as big as a pressure cooker and it’s not as small as a traditional rice cooker. Depending on the size of your kitchen you may have to store this elsewhere but it’s attractive enough to sit on your countertop if you have the space. The digital component is a step up from the traditional rice cooker. I also like that it has a touchscreen. When you plug it in, there’s a menu that appears on the front with different cooking options. There’s options to slow cook, saute, steam, etc. that’s other than just cooking rice. A basket is included for steaming vegetables and other items. I followed the instructions to clean the inner pot by completing a test run. This will make sure it’s working properly and clean it of any possible residue. Once I did that I followed the instructions for cooking white rice. I used long grain white which used the grain to water ration of 1:1 1/4 cups(every 1 cup of grain use 1 1/4 cups of water). I only cooked 2 cups of rice. The instructions do not give estimated cook times for anything other than 1, 5, and 10 cups of rice. So you’ll have to do a bit of math if you’re using a different measurement. The good thing is that this cooker is smart enough to know the cook times automatically. I was afraid the rice would overcook based on the estimated cook times but the cooker reduced the time as it cooked. I’ll admit the rice came out a bit gummy so I’ll have to do some tweaking to make sure I get my desired outcome. I also tried oatmeal in the cooker and I must say I really liked the outcome. The only downside was the time it took to cook. You’ll have to prepare for at least a 30 minute cook time with oatmeal. But it was well worth the wait. The texture and taste was great. I’ll try to cook jasmine rice next and try to steam a couple of different vegetables. I imagine I can’t really mess that up. Not sure how this device is different from a traditional rice cooker besides being able to slow cook and sauté. There’s a cookbook included with a few recipes to help with slow cooking. I would recommend this if you want something versatile that can do a little more than just cook rice.
