Solid and High Tech Air Fryer

This unit has moved the air fryer forward a few steps in terms of technology. It includes a WiFi connection ability as well as connectivity with Amazon Alexa. I did connect my house WiFi following the included instructions and this device was recognized immediately and the wireless connection was successful. The normal style wireless icon now appeared solid (no blinking) to indicate the connection was completed. I also installed the VeSync app on my Android phone. This app offers some control of the air fryer using your phone to tell the fryer what to do over the WiFi connection. This was nice but not very useful. You can just enter the commands more quickly on the Cosori Air Fryer touch screen. In fact there seems to be a weak point in that you can set a temperature and time on your phone, but you still need to hit start on the air fryer or nothing happens. So it has a safety value but not worth using. I also added this air fryer to my 5th gen Echo Dot. The connection to Alexa was very quick and easy to do using the VeSync and Alexa apps. When you tell Alexa to cook on the air fryer for say 12 minutes at 350 degrees, the fryer starts cooking without the need to touch ‘start’ at the air fryer, so that is nice. I really loved the preset frying programs which you access by just pushing a button on the bright touch screen, these are explained in the manual very clearly. Although it is suggested to preheat, I found that it’s simple to just add a couple extra minutes cooking time. Also the very thorough little 25 page manual will provide tips on safety and ensuring complete cooking; so I do suggest reading the manual, it is very well done. An example is you can customize the presets and a handy chart is included to facilitate any customizations you wish. Not to be overlooked is an included and outstanding recipe book (over 100 pages). It is printed on glossy paper and is fantastic. I’ve tried several recipes and all were delicious – kudos to Cosori for providing this book. You will find that this fryer is very sturdy and has an external shell that does ‘not’ get hot with the exception of the vent area in the back - wonderful. It is suggested to keep the unit 5 inches from a wall, but I was more comfortable with 12 inches from the wall. Also the 2-part-basket is removed by pulling on the handle, but you will find it is expedient to hold one hand on a cool part of the unit as you pull the basket out since it takes some force to remove and insert the basket. A great feature is the button on the handle which drops the inner basket away from the outer basket-shell. Be sure to do this with the inner and outer baskets on a table (not in mid-air). There is a plastic slide used to cover the button so you don’t accidently press it. The cooking of various foods was similar to other cookers based on a half dozen items I tried. However this unit was easier to use due to the technology and easier to clean. I would highly recommend it.

Love this airfryer! I have had a couple of others and this Cosori airfryer definitely wins a good place in my kitchen. It is well designed and is easy to use and most of all makes great food for our family. I think those are the most important things one needs to remember when purchasing an airfryer. This is the first Airfryer in my kitchen that connects to the Wi-Fi as well and I found this feature and its app very well thought and done. You can preset a number of things before cooking your food and be able to monitor the progress as well. Once it is done, you get a notification on your phone if you enable it. The first thing I did was get the fries in and some cook some fish as well. The fryer handled it well and everything came out delicious. I didn't need to do any guess work as far as tempoand time, the smart appliance did it all for me. The box also contains a nicely done Cookbook, that will give you lots of ideas to cook for your lunches and dinners. I'm pretty excited about this appliance and putting it to work every day will be on my list. This thing even prompts you to shake your fries when it is time to insure they are cooked well! I'm very satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it!

I have actually looked forward to writing this review for the Cosori Pro Gen2 5.8 Smart Air Fryer because it is one of those rare products that not only delivers everything it claims, but more as well. As I unpacked the box, I was impressed with how well it was packed. There was more than enough packing to keep it safe during shipping, but the designers actually went the extra mile to make sure that any punctures or such like would not affect the product itself. Everything was packed in a well-thought-out manner...first the top layer of packing along with the warranty, Quick Start Guide, an extremely useful Quick Reference Guide (which gives you not only suggested cooking times for certain types of foods, but also how to preheat, but also proper placement of foods inside the basket, how to easily and properly bread certain foods, and even how to adapt regular over recipes for the air fryer!) and a 128-page recipe book! The recipes aren't just run of the mill boring recipes either! Seriously, everything from Sausage-stuffed Mushrooms and Cajun-Blackened Catfish to Ginger Blueberry Scones! So many of these I never thought possible to cook in an air-fryer. But then again, the Cosori Air Fryer is not your everyday air fryer! The rest of the unpacking was simple, so next was reading the quick-start guide. Of course, the first thing was to make sure all the packing tape was removed, and then give the unit a quick cleaning. This was easy enough...the cleaning involves nothing more than you would expect to give any new appliance. After cleaning, when the unit is ready to start using, Cosori recommends giving the unit a good trial run. This involves two test runs, one for five minutes and the other for six minutes. This not only makes sure the unit is working correctly, but allows the user to become a bit familiar with how to actually operate the unit once he/she is ready. Next comes the "smart" part. Seeing how this is a smart air-fryer, it is necessary to connect the unit to your wi-fi AFTER downloading the VeSync app. Now, part of writing an honest review is to also mention anything "negative" about the product. This was a frustrating experience for me. The app itself was easy enough to download, but it several attempts of going through the initial setup before i was finally able to get it to connect. I was almost tempted to simply NOT use the unit as a smart device, but like I said, it finally did connect. I don't have any idea what the issue was, and it may have been something I wasn't doing correctly. But I guess all that matters is that it did connect. There is also the option to connect to Alexa. No matter what I tried to do, Alexa absolutely would not enable the VeSync skill. I wasn't able to find out anything online, and the Amazon rep was completely unable to help, so at this point I am limited to using the smart function via the phone app only. Now, of all the things regarding the "smart" feature, this is probably the most aggravating. I have read ad re-read the instructions, but in order to use the app, you must still manually push the start button on the unit itself. I have tried to reason this out as to why it is designed that way, but the reasoning completely eludes me. Safety, in case you accidentally start cooking via the app?? I don't know. And like I said, I feel I must include this point in this review. After looking through several of the recipes in the amazing recipe book, I chose to start with a simple grilled cheese sandwich. I never in a thousand years would have thought it was possible to do this in an air fryer, but the Cosori handled it like a pro. You make it just like you would if you were going to cook it on the stove, including buttering both sides of the bread. I then decided on garlic toast. This too turned out deliciously! The bread comes out perfectly toasted with the absolute right amount of crunch. BUT THE SECRET LIES IN PREHEATING. Cosori recommends preheating before cooking everything, and in order to achieve a perfect dish, it is important to follow this suggestion. Otherwise, as I discovered on my first attempt at a grilled cheese, it just doesn't turn out the way you want. Preheating makes all the difference. I am looking forward to this coming weekend and trying out the included skewers on the include rack. I have a feeling I am going to be in for an exquisitely wonderful surprise, especially if my first two dishes are any indication!! And this brings me to mention just how large the 5.8 quart basket really is! It will make cooking for my family quick and easy! I love the quick disconnect feature which allows the user to disconnect the basket easily for cleaning. There is a button cover that the user must actually push forward to use this function, and is very smart feature on Cosori's part. I can only imagine the possible disasters if the button wasn't covered and the user pushed it! Thank you Cosori! All in all this is the best air fryer I have ever owned, in spite of the difficulty in connecting to wi-fi and not being able to pair with Alexa. Neither of these issues affects the cooking experience, and seeing the multitude of recipes included in the included recipe book, this is going to be a real game-changer in my life. I absolutely did not know just how versatile the Cosori Air Fryer truly is. There is no other air fryer on the market that I would ever recommend more highly than the Cosori Pro Gen2 5.8qt Smart Air Fryer, and will definitely be recommending it to my friends and family. Do yourself a huge favor and get one. You will definitely be glad you did!

My only experience with an air fryer thus far has been the now-discontinued 2-quart compact Dash air fryer, which I loved dearly before I gave it away while moving. I had never replaced it, and having the opportunity to try out the Cosori gave me immense hope to return to my air frying days. For starters, it can be difficult to justify this purchase if you're particularly penny-pinching. An oven does roughly the same thing, right? Partially. The air fryer's unique strength is that it does more or less the same thing as an oven but faster, thanks to its smaller size and improved air circulation. As a result of both, it cooks food faster and results in a crispier texture. Thus, air fryers are great for healthier alternatives to fried foods; no one would mistake an air-fried wing for a properly deep-fried one, but the former is palatable. You can absolutely make do if health trumps taste and texture in priorities for your cooking. That said, I mainly used it to make nuggets, fries, and other snacks as they turn out crispier and tastier than in the microwave without requiring me to heat up an entire oven just for a small tray of munchies...! Bringing this back to the Cosori, the nearly 6qt capacity is a noticeable improvement over the 2qt capacity of the Dash. Not only can you make more food, but food can also be more spaced out thanks to the size and shape of the basket, meaning it is cooked faster and more evenly. Being able to toss the basket in the dishwasher is an additional bonus. The presets are nice, though I don't tend to use them for cooking from scratch (I find that experimenting with the settings and making your own "presets" works out better), and I appreciate that it has smartphone compatibility where it can send notifications to your phone to do things like shake the basket or get your food when it's ready. That is something the Dash didn't have and it makes this whole unit and experience feel premium and a bit futuristic. I admit I'm a bit burnt out on how everything is turning "smart" nowadays, by which manufacturers mean they just have a shoddy phone app that has barely any purpose, but this is a case where I feel the "smart" moniker is somewhat justified. The Cosori isn't a Star Trek replicator but having that functionality is pretty neat. Another plus is that the unit isn't too loud. The Dash could get a bit distracting, especially with a living room adjacent to the kitchen, but the Cosori does a good job of keeping things at a reasonable volume despite cooking so dang fast. The build quality is decent although the unit is made of plastic, and I feel that this would survive a couple of years at a minimum in most kitchens. Unfortunately, the Cosori — like most things — isn't perfect. The plastic is a fingerprint magnet and, with me also owning a built-in black plastic microwave that also seems to attract every fingerprint ever, this annoys me more than it might other people. It is a struggle to keep the unit looking clean after several uses. The smartphone functionality is neat, but it isn't super useful; thankfully you don't need to use it to operate the fryer, but if there is an upcharge for the smart functionality, I do have to say that I think it really isn't worth a ton just to be able to tell that food is finished cooking from your phone unless, say, you live with roommates or in some other living situation where you aren't always in a living room or other common areas near the kitchen while cooking. The basket is a bit fiddly, which is a complaint I've had about most air fryers I've used; balancing keeping it securely in place while not making it a pain to take out is a tough line to walk, but it is something to note. I also did see that the instructions recommend keeping the unit at least five inches from the wall, which I had hoped would not be a requirement but unfortunately, five inches would be a bare minimum of clearance as this unit does put out a lot of heat in the back vents. In all fairness, the Dash did have this issue as well and to the Cosori's credit, the unit itself doesn't get nearly as dangerously hot as the Dash did. Overall, this is not a bad little air fryer. I am quite pleased with it and have enjoyed cooking with it, and it is an upgrade in most ways to my old Dash unit. I would recommend weighing your air fryer needs before purchasing this unit, as the smart functionality is fun but may not suit your needs (or wants!) and the visual aspect of the unit may put those who prefer a cleaner look to their kitchen appliances off. You also may not need ~6qt capacity, as this would be a bit overkill for any single person or college student. I would recommend this tentatively.

Before I used this air fryer, I just kind of figured that an air fryer was an air fryer; end of story. I was wrong - this one noticeably improves over some bargain-bin air fryers I've used previously. First off, the build quality is really nice. It doesn't feel cheap or flimsy, and there's a few nice-to-haves about it (such as the cover for the button to disconnect the basket from the tray to make sure you can't do it on accident). I don't really cook things with skewers, but the fact that Cosori included them and a tray to use them with was a nice extra. The tray and basket seem to be of pretty good quality, and were easy to clean and dry without worrying about grease being burned into them. They have a good nonstick coating. I was somewhat wary about the smart functions. They're actually helpful though - the VeSync app has a bunch of recipes and presets to help you cook things even if there's no explicit directions on the package, and you can scan things to pull up their presets (if they have any - none of the foods I tried did, but maybe they'll add them later). Setting up the smart functions was decently painless, and you can totally use it without setting that up - though, it will nag you with a blinking Wi-Fi icon. The most important part, however, was the fact that it could tell me how much time was left from my phone. This helped me be more comfortable with multitasking while cooking, rather than solely focusing on the air fryer. As an air fryer, it does a great job. My food doesn't end up burnt or raw. I do appreciate being able to select precise cook times and temperatures without worrying about dials and if I set them right. The presets are a great bonus too - if you cook the same thing a lot, you can just find a preset you like and hit that button to re-cook it with one button press. I think my favorite thing about it, other than how easy it is to clean, is that it's really quiet. My previous air fryer had a really distinct roar that made having conversations while cooking worse because we had to talk over it. This air fryer sounds more like a modern fan. It's quiet enough that I don't have to raise my voice to talk over it. Though, unfortunately, you can't configure the menu sounds to be quieter - they're very loud beeps. If that was something you could do, that would actually make this air fryer perfect for me because I often prepare food late at night and would like to not disturb anyone else. Overall, this is a nice piece of kitchen hardware, and I'm glad I have it. The "smart" features are even useful; and while I don't like how loud the menu is it's honestly a nitpick. And who knows, maybe I'll find the setting for that buried under some menus or something after an app update.

A Not So Smart Air Fryer

This air fryer from Corsori is pretty standard and not really thing to write home about. There are things to like about it, but at the same time many more things to criticize about it too. Overall it's not a bad product, but it can definitely be improved. On the good side, as a standalone air fryer, it is quite decent. The unit heats up relatively quickly (about 4 minutes to 350 degrees preheat) and cooks your food blazingly fast. It may be contributed to the design of the basket and how it funnels air, but everything I've cooked has come out crispy with low effort. While not silent, it is quiet enough that you can watch the television in the same room. The vent blows the hot air directly out of the back, so placement of it will need to be thought out. Included with the package is a recipe book with a lot of easy to make dishes. While this is advertised as a smart product, you do not need to integrate with it at all. That is about where the positives end. There are many things to criticize about it, and a lot of it boils down to minor annoyances while using the fryer. For starters, the buckets closes securely in the fryer, which is great. However, the fryer is not heavy enough so whenever you go to remove the bucket, it also slightly moves the fryer - very annoying. Every time you turn it on, the temperature and time resets to default instead of showing what you last used - very annoying. The lights stay on when it is supposedly off, and they also turn on additional lights when the bucket is out meaning it's on the whole time while it is being washed - very annoying. The beeping when pressing any button is extremely loud - very annoying. If you don't want to use the smart app, the WIFI light will continuously blink - very annoying. Now literally everything that's been listed can be solved with software, so this is where the smart app comes in, right? Wrong. You can barely control anything in the smart app. You can stop cooking, but cannot start it remotely because of a law. When you do stop it, you don't have an option to turn it off so the lights just stay on until you manually turn it off. In fact, all the app is good for is notifications that your food is ready. What is the point of having a smart app if you cannot configure your product with it? Absolutely useless feature and not worth it for the extra cost. Think of all the times you've needed to turn off your oven remotely. Basically almost never because you would check on your food physically before deciding to turn it off. So for an air fryer only, it is decent in cooking your food. All the minor annoyances aside, if you don't interact with this often it's not a big deal. If you catch this with a good price, it is definitely a competitive product. Because it does have an app integration, it's possible that it can be updated in the future. However as it stands, it is hard to recommend this as a smart product.

Verdict: a good air fryer that includes some convenient technology. It air fries well, it is WiFi capable, and it has an aap. Initial impressions. The unit is not as heavy as I expected. It looks good overall, with a convenient and easy to use front panel. It comes with a recipe book, manual, and shortcut pamphlet. The bottom tray can separate into two to ease cleaning. The cooking tray is quite big, and definitely bigger than our current air fryer. The tray design is great for counter storage, as opposed to a clamshell design. Setup. In terms of the analog air fryer functions, setup is minimal… Turn it on, wait a few minutes for preheat, load, and start. The most interesting feature of this air fryer, the WiFi capability, does require some setup. First download the VeSyn app, then pair your phone to the machine. You’ll have to create an account during the app setup. App. The app sounds like a fantastic capability, but I was a little disappointed. I expect more functionality, especially the ability to turn the machine on remotely. Nevertheless, the app provides access to a digital cook book, you can set temperatures, set and check timers, and get notifications. This really helps for meal prep so you can orchestrate other dishes or start making a fresh salad when you are 10 minutes away from finishing with the air fryer. Performance. This machine air fries pretty good! We made yuca on one day, and we air fried chicken drumsticks on a different day. Both came out great, and healthier that the normal frying for the yuca, and more delicious than baked drumsticks. While the frying tray is big, you don’t as much flat surface area as a different design fryer. Things I love: - Wifi capable and connects to an app! - Convenient button panel - Great size for a kitchen counter - The frying tray is quite large and non-stick - The frying tray also separates into two parts for easy cleaning - Reasonably fast start-up Things I don’t love: - The buttons are hard to press… That’s something that is pretty important to get right - It’s not loud… but it’s not super quiet either. Probably on par with other air fyers. Overall, this is good air fryer. It certainly performs its core purpose (air frying) well. The technology additions are welcome, and I sure could be remedied through remote updates. While there is room to improve, this machine provides new technology features that improve convenience. At this price range, this machine offers good overall value. I recommend it.
