Perfect for PS5 And Desktops But Not Gaming PC's

The Crucial P5 Plus NVMe drive is a fantastically built piece of hardware at a fantastic price. It fits the PlayStation 5 perfectly. It should also work for desktop PCs. However, desktop is the key word here. I attempted to install this in my ROG M16 gaming laptop, but it was a few millimeters too thick. The same thing happened when I tried to use it in my portable game drive. With that said, the Crucial P5 Plus found its permanent home in my PS5. The old PS5 drive was relocated to my gaming PC. PS5 installation is very easy. There are plenty of tutorials online if you need something visual. However, since I already had an expansion drive in my PS5, things got a little tricky for me. I had to back up my games to another drive and then move them back to the secondary drive after formatting was complete. It was an extra step, but it worked flawlessly. Now, to talk about performance. The P5 is phenomenal. By upgrading to an SSD with a heatsink and the new Gen 4 standard, games felt like they loaded significantly faster. So, if you're on the fence about whether to get the heat sink or not, just get the heat sink. With all that said, I am very happy with this drive and definitely recommend it.

If you're looking for more storage for your PS5 and need something that is not only super affordable now but also from a reputable company, here's your answer. Since Sony finally updated the consoles with firmware that allowed the use of NVMe's, the competition has grown and the prices have dropped more and more. Now is the time to jump on that 1 or 2TB of space you've been eyeing. Now, if you are using this for your PC, I just wanted to throw this out there and warn people there is no screw included in the box. So make sure you are prepared for that. Since I am using this for my PS5, I recommend you watch some Youtube tutorials on how to remove the plates if you haven't done so before to avoid potentially damaging them. All you are going to need is a Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew 2 screws to get to the socket and move the screw to the 80mm mark. Plug in the drive, replace the screws and plates and you are off to the races. Performance is exactly what the console needs. Out of the box and with no firmware update needed, I scored 5652MB/s which is more than what it required. I changed my installation destination to the drive and all my games ran without a hitch. Crucial is one of the top companies I recommend for speed, price and reliability and would even look at getting a 2TB with the great pricing. I hope in the future they make even a larger capacity as I would upgrade in a heartbeat.

    Perfect PS5 Storage Upgrade

I’ve been waiting to upgrade my PS5 storage for awhile and I’m glad I did. M.2 SSDs especially the ones with heat sinks were very expensive until recently where prices have taken a free fall. You can get a new 1TB or 2TB top-end Gen4 SSD for less than half what it cost a year or two ago when PS5 launched. The Crucial P5 Plus is a Gen4 PCIE 4.0 SSD with max read/write speeds of 6600/5000 Mbps which is down just slightly from a few of the competitor drives that hit 7000/6000 for Gen4. Not a huge deal since PS5 seems to cap out around 5600Mbps anyways and Somy recommends drives that are rated for 5500+ speeds. So the P5 Plus is ready for the job. Installing it was simple, I just looked up the PS5 video for installing an SSD, popped the lid open by turning the PS5 upside down and disc side facing away from me. Slide the cover off and you see the rest looks like a PC. Use a screwdriver to remove the metal plate and the m.2 screw, then move the stand-off to the 2280 spot. Insert the SSD at a 45 angle, slide it in, and secure it with the screw on the stand-off. Put the metal plate back and close the PS5. Took about 5 mins total. I build my own PCs so this was pretty easy for me, if you are unsure let a handy friend or maybe Geek Squad take care of this for you. Once I booted up my PS5 it instantly detected the P5 Plus SSD and asked if I wanted to format it. Hit yes, and it tells the speed of the drive which again, seems capped around 5600Mbps from other reports on the web. Then on settings > storage you can choose where to install your games so I chose the Crucial since my built in storage only has 50GB left. A few notes, you definitely want a fast SSD rated at 5500Mbpd in your internal slot as this lets you run games off the drive instead of just use it to store downloaded games. External drives and slower SSDs won’t give you this option. Also, the heatsinks are more than just looks. Not sure if anyone has tested on PS5, but m.2 in the past have been shown to throttle on PC due to temps for sustained loads. Not an issue on the p5 plus since it has a very nice and substantial feeling heat sink installed. Great price and option if you need more PS5 storage!

    AVERAGE PERFORMANCE / MICRON QUALITY

INTRODUCTION The P5 Plus is a new offering from Crucial / Micron. Sporting a PCIe 4.0 interface, integrated heat sink, and a DRAM cache, the drive has a lot going for it. Crucial backs the drive by a good 5 year manufacturer’s warranty, which is decent in this day, considering some manufacturer’s offer only a 3 year warranty, 5 is a welcome benefit. Crucial claims speeds up to 6600MB/s, more than enough to satisfy the PS5’s minimum read/write speed requirements. INSTALLATION The Crucial P5 installed into my older i7-9700k based desktop PC without issue. The older PCIe Gen 3 desktop required no drivers and was instantly recognized and Windows 11 installed with no fuss. If you are installing this on a newer computer like my 13th gen i5, you will most likely need a VMD driver to get Windows to recognize the drive in the PCIe Gen 4 interface. The VMD driver is readily available from Intel, and once I installed the driver, Windows recognized the drive, formatted it and installed quickly, quietly, and without any issues. PERFORMANCE The Crucial P5 Plus offers average performance compared to similar PCIe 4 drives. The P5 had no problems sending and receiving data from my older desktop’s PCIe 3.0 interface. The 3.0 interface could not even begin to reach the limits of the 4.0 interface. The P5 handled all the data as fast as my old workhorse could throw at it. However, once I pulled the drive from my older desktop and installed it into my current desktop, speeds were not nearly as impressive. Crucial touts speeds up to 6600MB/s, but I was not able to reach their claimed performance numbers. It wasn’t a fault of the desktop, as my current PCIe 4.0 drive from another manufacturer handily beats the Crucial offering. My current NVMe 4.0 drive outpaces the Crucial by over 900MB/s, roughly 6900MB/s vs 6000MB/s. The integrated heatsink is a nice feature and may pay dividends in the future. However, repeated read/write tests of this drive compared to my faster NVMe drive, which is not equipped with a heatsink, showed little difference in overall temperatures. The Crucial P5 maintained its cool, running only around 41C during testing. My non-heatsink drive was only 3 – 4 degrees warmer after repeated tests, so the addition of the heatsink may not be an absolute necessity with decent airflow in your machine. FINAL THOUGHTS The P5 Plus is a solid offering from Crucial. I have always had excellent luck with Micron memory and have no reason to believe this drive won’t be nothing but reliable. The P5 Plus isn’t the fastest drive on the market, but it is a solid choice. An integrated heatsink and a DRAM cache should ensure any user will be able to get the most from their drive. Whether you are shopping for desktop drive or a PlayStation 5 drive, this one should be worthy of your consideration. RECOMMENDED

    blazing fast extra storage space

I was on the lookout for expanding my PS5 storage to address the issue of running out of enough storage while I like to keep my old games also, I had to delete some of them due to the storage space issue. I researched for almost a month to find a steal deal and voila this Crucial PS Plus is a lifesaver. It is a high-performance PCIe Gen 4 SSD that is designed for my PS5. It offers sequential read speeds of up to 6,600 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, which is significantly faster than PCIe Gen 3 SSDs. Installation is straightforward with a nice goodie from Crucial which is the included heatsink with its thermal pad pre-installed. This made my whole installation process much faster. It is recommended by Sony to keep the drive cool under heavy loads. This is especially important for the PS5, which can generate a lot of heat which leads to affecting the console performance by the rising temperature. I popped out the side cover, unscrewed the SSD bay’s cover, and put the Crucial SSD in. It was a nice and clean process that took me 10 minutes to finish everything and was ready to fire up my PS5 console. After I turned on my PS5 I was welcomed by a formatting message on the screen “which is required to continue the setup”. After that, the SSD drive was ready to go. My reading speed was 5500mgbs which is a blazing fast. I moved some of my big old games from the internal storage to this new Crucial and amazingly they all transferred at a blazing speed. I also tried to load up a game first from my internal storage and then moved it to the new SSD and noticed that both have the same load speed. Other games I moved to the Crucial SSD loaded fast and had no issues. It is an amazing SSD. Speed is reliable and blazing fast. Overall, This Crucial P5 Plus SSD drive is a great choice and worth it for the easy almost ready-of-the-box installation and performance you get.

Crucial delivers a solid choice amoung m.2 drives

The Crucial - P5 Plus SSD is a solid choice for an M.2 drive, especially if you are planning to use it for the PS5 or as a primary drive! The included heatsink keeps the drive cool while gaming. I’ve used Crucial storage solutions for many years, from SSDs to RAM, it has always been a good brand with few issues. I’m going to use this drive as a secondary drive to store games on. Pros - Well Priced for enthusiast level performance. - Included heatsink keeps drive cool. - Endurance of 600TBW and a 5-year warranty. Cons - None so far. The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB has a listed maximum speed of 6600 MB/s Read and 5000 MB/s Write. This places the Crucial P5 Plus on the higher end for Read/Write speeds for a PCI 4.0 M.2 drive, there are faster drives pushing above 7000 MB/s. The P5 Plus tends to drop in performance during long write activities, anything over 30 seconds saw a large drop in write speed from the 5000 MB/s to around 1500 MB/s. This is rather common amoung M.2 drives across the brands. I'll be installing this as a secondary drive to store games on, the write speed will not have the biggest impact to performance so it will be less important for my use. I benchmarked this using a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master Rev. 1.0 with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, as the second and third m.2 slot are PCI 4.0, but I will be installing this on a system with an Asus TUF Gaming Z590-Plus WiFi and Intel i7-11700. The slot will be running at PCI 3.0 speeds so anything above this will be wasted. The heatsink on this drive does add some bulk, but not by much. It increases the height of the SSD to 0.37in (9.5mm), which would still be too large for many laptops but perfect for the PS5! Check your laptop specification before buying as an additional drive. For the price, this drive is a great bargain between performance and price. There are plenty of options out there, but with the reliability of Crucial and performance of this drive, this was a sweet spot for my needs. The MSRP is $99.99, though with the recent drop in M.2 SSD prices, there have been many sales bringing the drive down to around $60. Overall, the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB delivers great value and the heatsink option makes it ready to go in more extreme systems like a gaming computer or PS5! I have used Crucial storage solutions in the past and will continue to use and recommend them!

I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Has great specs at a great price from a trusted brand with 5-year warranty. TBW is right there with the best of the bests. Comes with a great heatsink, max temp I saw was 53 c. Usually that alone costs ~$8 - $15. Testing proved it hit rated specs in synthetic benchmarks. Transfer speeds to and from were great for the price. While it isn’t the best SSD on the market, as it scores in the top 25 percentile on average, it is a stellar bang for your buck. Great for your PC or PS5. I don’t know how long it will last as I haven’t had it for long. But Crucial/Micron are huge players and I’d expect good things. Boot times were fast. Very responsive for window install. QUICK SPECS: - 2280 NVMe Gen 4 SSD - 176 Layer TLC NAND from Micron ARM 32 Bit processor. - 2 GB LPDDR4 2133 MT/s - 600 TBW - Direct Storage Enabled - Full Hardware-Based Encryption (not always seen). TESTING: Crystal Disk Mark: - See attached photo: But I got the rated Read and Write of 6,600 and 5,000 MB/s (Mine was 6,799.23 and 5,019.06 MB/s). - See attached photo: For External NVMe encloser (10 GB/s max) it scored Read 1,064 MB/s and Write 1,042.82 MB/s. I don’t know why you’d buy this fast of a drive for that. But it does hit full speeds. Transferring of Files: - Using an X570 motherboard that supports dual NVMe 4x4 transferred COD (151 GB) between the Crucial P5 Plus and Western Digital SN850x back-to-back. - Transferring from Crucial P5 Plus to WD SN850x: Peaked at ~3.00 GB/s (3,000 MB/s) but mainly stayed 700 MB/s – 1.10 GB/s. Took three minutes. - Transferring from WD SN850x to Crucial P5 Plus: Stayed at ~2.6 – 3.0 GB/s until the last 17 GB where it dropped to ~1.00 – 1.3 GB/s. Took 1 minute. Yes, 151 GB took 1 minute to transfer. Insane! WITH MOMENTUM CACHE: Crystal Mark Scores went through the roof, with Read 12,715.20 MB/s (vs 6,799.23) and Write 9,357.42 MB/s (vs 5,019.06). But repeated tests back-to-back showed a quick degradation to Read 6,489.83 MB/s and Write 7,162.44 MB/s. Honestly, I turned it off as it can cause some instability to data and found the increased speeds to be negligible in my normal operation and at times even hindered it. Actual transfer rates were worse. I did test this twice to verify results. - SN850x to Crucial: ~ 2.2 – 2.5 GB/s (vs 2.5 – 3.0 GB/s). - Crucial to SN850x: ~1.75 GB/s for 80 GB then 600 MB/s – 1.10 GB/s for the rest. (vs 700 – 1.10 GB/s)

I'll keep this concise: you have very few reasons to get anything else. Whether for gaming, data storage, content creation, etc., this has what it takes to upgrade your current setup. ***WHAT IT GETS RIGHT:*** 1.) Built-in heatsink which goes all the way around. You won't have an issue with a cooked underside PCB. This takes the heat out the top. The heatsink looks nice, too. 2.) When connected to a PCI-E Gen. 4 device, this actually hits advertised read speeds. Even in older (Gen. 3) hardware, you'll peg the rev. limiter with this, capping off the 3500 MB/s bus speed. 3.) Price. Compared to the Gaming-pocalypse of early 2021 to 2023, the price on something this fast and this quality - at this storage size - is incredible. 4.) Hardware encryption. It's shocking that something consumer-focused - specifically GAMING focused - would include hardware encryption, but here it is. 5.) A write-cache. Small to medium files write incredibly fast due to a sizeable write cache. 6.) Disk-cloning software. It may not be your ideal cloning-software, depending on how often you require it, but it's just an extra bonus for Crucial to include it. ***WHAT MAY BE LACKING:*** The kitchen sink? Honestly, the only type of user who may not like this dtive is the gamer/builder who wants to keep the stock motherboard NVMe heatsinks. That's it. That's all I can think of. ***CONCLUSION:*** Get it.

PS5 - M.2 1TB SSD Drive for PS5 Console. First Impressions - A well packed crucial storage product for PS5 - It comes in an outer wrapper and a durable inside shell case. I unpacked the drive on my test bench in preperation for install. Notably I had a .5TB installed already and had no space to transfer some of the games so - adios ! Installation - This is about a three minute installation on a PS5. After securing and reconnecting the console - it will speed test and format the drive automatically. This took a few minutes and then I was able to transfer downloaded PS4 and PS5 titles from internal storage to this drive. Speed - It's FAST ! This seems to slightly improve load times. The drive it replaces was barely above the rated 5000Mbps. The new crucial drive benched at 6850Mbps ! What I love - Easy to install A Ton of storage for downloaded games and media SPEED - it's fast and improves load times Overall - This is a great upgrade for your console to free up internal storage and avoid battles over having to remove a game or two to make more room for new games !

The Crucial - P5 Plus 1TB Internal solid-state memory stick is a blazingly fast instant upgrade to my windows PC. I was able to transfer at speeds far surpassing 6k MB/s (reading) and nearly 5k writing. Setup is painful in two ways: first, the instructions that come with the device direct you to a website, something I unfortunately learned after I had torn my computer apart to install it. Secondly, and this may just be the way my desktop PC is set up, I had a very difficult time getting the machine to recognize the additional storage. Crucial's website definitely helped with troubleshooting and -- after a few starting from scratch moments -- I was able to get it up a running. The speed is amazing - even for a modestly priced internal solid-state disk. I was able to make a clone of a very large Lightroom photo library measuring about 560GB within minutes. The fact that it is a solid-state drive certainly helps with the amazing speeds -- but, SSDs have a limited read/write lifespan so I worry a little about using this as a backup. I will likely use it to store active projects I am working on. Overall, I think this is a great addition to your PC if you are looking for reasonably priced, super-fast additional storage.

I was in need of extra storage for my PS5 and came across the Crucial P5 one terabyte. I trust Crucial as a brand because they offer a good balance of speed, storage and cost options. I have found them to be just as reliable as their competitors and sometimes even better. SSD storage has become popular thanks in part to how convenient it is to use and install but also thanks to the read and write speeds that just seem to get faster each generation. I typically have a format for the reviews that I write I will be deviating from that in this instance due to the fact that this is such a simple product therefore there’s only so much to say about it. The Crucial P5 Plus is advertised for PC/PS5 use and is an M.2 2280 sized driver so it is a tad smaller than the full sized 110 which means it can fit in smaller PC builds. I like the 2280 form factor and the fact that it includes a heatsink to prevent overheating. I opted to use mine in my PS5 I am thankful that pricing for memory has gone down since the release of the PS5. The P5 plus is rated for a maximum read and write speeds of up to 6600MB/s and to those who don’t care or know what that means in lay men’s terms it’s really fast. I am impressed with the fact that you ACTUALLTY get 1tb of storage space to use with the PS5 once formatted. I opened my PS5 for the first time and unfortunately broke one of the clips and it was for the top. Protip here you only need to remove the bottom face plate to install and upgrade your usable storage. Don’t be like me who did it blindly. It took less than 30 seconds to format and I transferred God of War which is roughly 85gb of storage from system storage to the Crucial P5 in less than 3 minutes that is nuts. I also transferred Call of Duty because it is WELL OVER 100GB of space. That too took little to no time at all. Long story short Crucial will offer you the best bang for your buck. Go pick one up you will be glad that you did don’t spend more than you have to it could be put towards games and accessories.

The Crucial P5 Plus is a great NVMe SSD from one of the leading manufacturers of storage. I installed the P5 Plus first in my PS5 to see how well it would work when loading/playing games and it worked exactly as advertised. The installation was super simple and the heat sink is just enough so that it doesn’t get stuck when trying to install it. When it came to game play I experienced no lag when playing any game (shooters/RPG/sports) even after having it on for multiple hours there was little to no noticeable slow-down while gaming. The attached heat sink does an amazing job by making sure the drive doesn’t get too hot and it comes preinstalled so one less thing I personally needed to worry about. Now the PS5 only showed that I was getting read speeds of 5200 , not the 6600 its rated for but the 6600 is a best case scenario. One thing I would like to mention is the P5 Plus did not come with a NVMe screw so please keep that in mind. Besides the PS5 I also attached the Crucial P5 plus to a laptop (external NVMe enclosure) and used it to transfer some video files and music files and this harddrive worked like a champ , I did see a drop off in the transfer speeds after a while however I was transferring huge files which totaled about 350 GB. Overall this is one of the best NVMe harddrives on the market and this thing is fast. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade/add additional storage or to use as a backup drive. The drive it self has a whole mess of other techy things that help protect your data (the drive makes auto adjustment to so the drive does not get too hot to damage it) which I would go into but to make a long story short Crucial is known as a world leader when it comes to storage for a reason.

The Crucial P5 Plus is a 1TB SSD with heatsink. I plan to use this on my Sony Playstation 5. Removing the side cover is tricky but simple. I had to find some Youtube videos, but the trick is to lift and slide. Do not just lift up. Once you remove the side cover, there is another cover for the M.2 slot. Once you remove it, you will see several holes and at the end, you will see a ring/riser and screw. Unscrew this and remove the ring/riser. The size of the SSD is 2280. The hole labeled “80” is where you will put the ring/riser and screw in the SSD. If you done it correctly, as soon as you turn on the PS5, it will inform you of the SSD drive and that you need to format it. You will need to format it before you can use it. The PS5 detects its read speeds to be 5661 MB/s. Not bad considering the maximum speed is 6600 MB/s. I selected four games that I mostly play with a total of 251 GB of data to be moved. The estimated time to move the data was four minutes. I tried it with Gran Turismo 7. I noticed a difference when using the Livery. It loads quicker than before. The race also loads quicker. This is a great upgrade in my opinion. Especially being able to use both internal storage and this NVME drive. You can move frequently played games over to the NVME SSD drive so that they load faster.

The Crucial P5 Plus internal SSD is the perfect companion to expand your PS5 or PC's internal storage! The integrated heatsink helps keep the ultra-fast PCIe Gen 4 drive cool while under sustained loads, allowing you to keep the drive running at maximum performance for longer! I also tested this drive in the USB3.2 Gen2x2 external enclosure, and it performed incredibly well! Even through the heatsink made it impossible to put the enclosures cover back on, it performed as well as more expensive Samsung, SanDisk, and Western Digital external drives and added a little extra durability to the drive. I was able to reach performance about on par as my SanDisk USB3.2 Gen2x2 drive, as seen in the included pictures. The heatsink surround the entire drive, with cooling channels down the top and through the center, held in place via thermal compound and by four screws into the bottom heat sink. This thing is truly stellar and the best choice at this price! Another homerun from Crucial in providing excellent performance at an even better price! I would highly recommend this to someone looking for a second (or third) game drive in their PC or as an upgrade for their PS5, especially as games continue to grow larger!

This is great drive, with great speeds. I think the packaging is a bit conservative in it’s performance promise, the drive consistently beats 6600 in my tests. I posted caps of an average test with 1GB, and an average test with 4GB. The drive does not choke with a lot of writes as the cheaper drives with fast cache will, this one just keeps going full speed. It runs cooler than the other P5 Plus I have in here under a motherboard heatsink, but that may be just the difference between being on the chipset vs the cpu lanes. I really like the heatsink design, half open, half closed, it’s got the tunnel down the middle for extra cooling from PS5 mounts, but it still works great in computer cases as well. I was using one of the motherboard heatsinks for another P5 Plus, and have the picture posted of what the heat pad was actually making contact with, not much, but it’s enough, since it makes good contact with the controller, which is on the right of the logo. That’s the most important part to keep cool, but the Crucial heatsink makes good coverage, staying very cool in my air cooled PC. Definite recommend!

Such an easy way to upgrade your PS5 storage. Follow the instructions on Sonys website, which is just removing the cover and then a couple screws... this slides in (be sure to use the spacer for the screw in the PS5) and you're good to go. When I turned my PS5 on, it recognized it right away. After formatting, the PS5 rated it at 5289MB/s, which is short of the 6600mb/s rated on the box, but the operation was so quick, I doubt it's a very accurate number. I moved a few games onto the SSD totaling 363.2GB. The copy speed averaged about 1gb/s (1000mb/s). Which, all things considered, is slow, but there are a lot of factors, including the write speed of this drive, and any data compression/decompression/encryption the PS5 may do when copying between drives. But beyond that, you wouldn't even know you're playing off of a 2nd drive on the PS5. All the games and operations are as smooth and seamless as if they were on the built-in SSD, which is really all you can ask for. If you're looking for a PS5 storage upgrade, this is a great option.

See pictures : I have the Western Digital SN850 for comparison, which I uninstalled and reinstalled for the sake of this review. A very value priced SSD drive to upgrade your PS5! Do not be intimidated about upgrading your PS5, it's very easy to do, you can watch several videos online, took me 5 minutes. You will need a small screw driver and a flat head to quickly do this procedure. The minimum speed for the PS5 is 5500MB/s read, and as you can see from the screen shot below, this drive will meet this demand, but just barely. I spent a little more money on the SN850 and there are even faster drives out there now, but this is unnecessary. You will barely, if at all, notice a difference when you're actually playing your games. This drive I ran a few times gave me 5530-5600MB/s. My SN850 is running around 6500MB/s, but I assure you I didn't notice a difference. That said, you do save money going with the Crucial, at time of this writing it's about $23 saved before tax. The other thing I like about this drive besides saving money is the cooling fin. The images I included shows the SN850 compared to the P5 Plus, you can see the P5 Plus has the probably more superior long grooves that is traditionally found in PC parts, where as the SN850 uses triangular cut outs. This will likely not impact you at all, but just something I noticed. One final note is although I am relating this to PS5 use, you can of course install this on a PC as well and just keep in mind the specs when compared to competitors. It is just a sneeze slower, but it's alot more economical.

I've used several of Crucial's SSDs over the years, most recently the slower P3 Plus. The P5 Plus is one of Crucial's high-end and faster models. While it isn't the fastest Gen 4 NVMe SSD on the market, it offers more than enough performance for PlayStation 5 games and is plug-and-play with its included heatsink. However, those looking to install this in a high-end gaming PC can likely get better value and performance from competing models. ===PROS=== - Speeds are very fast and often clock higher than what Crucial advertises. Before installing this in my PS5, I first loaded it into my gaming PC to run detailed speed tests using CrystalDiskMark. On my PC, I clocked sequential read speeds as high as 6,800 MB/s, and sequential write speeds as high as 5,100 MB/s. Notably, random read/write speeds are significantly slower (roughly 650 MB/s read; 550 MB/s write), which is actually slower than some cheaper NVMe SSDs that I've used. - After I installed this in my PS5, the console immediately performed its own speed test and reported read speeds of 5621 MB/s, which is just above the recommended read speed of 5500 MB/s that Sony recommends. As such, this is a perfect drive to add more storage to your PS5 console. There would be zero noticeable difference in PS5 game loading time with a faster drive. - The endurance of the P5 Plus drives is right in line with other higher end SSDs. This 1 TB model has an endurance of 600 TBW (terabytes written), which is the supposed maximum amount of data that can be written to the drive during its lifetime. It will take quite a lot of PS5 game downloads to hit that 600 TBW threshold. ===CONS=== - If you have the patience, consider purchasing the bare version of this drive without the heatsink. You can find and install your own heatsink possibly at a better value. - While speeds are perfect for PS5, PC users may want to look at other options. For instance, similarly priced models from WD and Samsung offer much faster speeds. In particular, the random read/write speeds of comparable drives are much better than the P5 Plus, which would be hugely beneficial for PC performance and software load times. Additionally, the included heatsink will probably make this drive too large for most laptops. ===OVERALL=== This is a perfect drive for PS5. And it seems that is how Crucial is marketing this version of the P5 Plus with the included heatsink -- as an SSD designed specifically for PS5. If you want a plug-and-play option to upgrade the storage in your PS5, this drive should be at the top of your list. PC users can likely find better options with faster random read/write speeds. However, as a PS5 drive, this is an easy recommendation.

The Crucial P5 Plus PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD is a great option for anyone looking to expand storage for their PS5 or PC. Especially right now, as they are on sale. This SSD has fast read and write speeds and worked great as a replacement for my usb storage that I had for my PS5. Because the games were being moved from usb to m.2, it did take it a while but I also moved over 556 GB all at once so i expected it to take a long time. Games that I have stored on the SSD launch fast and it performs like they were on the base storage space. I also like that it has an included heatsink attached as there's nothing to cool that area of the ps5 other than the one fan cooling the entire system, but I am not sure how much air actually flows through that area. Being Gen4, it is actually faster than the 970 Evo Plus that is in my PC that is Gen3, so it was tempting to use it as my boot drive in my pc and use the Samsung drive as extra storage, but I have been looking to expand my PS5 storage and get off of the usb storage and saw this as a good opportunity. Anyway, overall I have been very happy with this drive and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast 1 TB SSD.
