Takes to long to cool area

It takes alittle long to cool the area recommended. It took about 2 hours to get it to 70 degrees. We are using it in a shop area so we don't run it all the time. So. When you are ready to work without being hot you have to wait for about 2 hours.

I don't like window units because once in, they are there until Fall and I like fresh air as much as possible. We reviewed the portables and this seemed to be the best. It took no time to attach the hose to the unit, attach the window plate to the hose, put the foam around the plate and close the window. When not needed, just open the window, remove the plate, scrunch up the hose and it rolls to the corner till next time. It is fairly quiet. So far we have not had to drain any water from it. We keep it in our 12x15 living room, which has two open doorways. It doesn't make the room cold enough to hang meat, but, it does make it really comfortable. I think it could make a closed room really cool.

I did quite a bit of research prior to committing to this item, so I was unhappy to find that it began making sputtering sounds and blinking "LL" after only one and an half weeks. A few days later, it began leaking, and this was even after draining. We had to place a water bottle around the drain in order to get it to work again. How classy is that? The boxy unit takes up floor space; the window hose is a monstrosity; the roaring sound of the machine makes it sound like it's an industrial generator (major pomp and circumstance for something that doesn't even cool a room); the real eyesore is the plastic bottle holding this jalopy up by a BPA-laced, proverbial thread is downright ratchet. And while this is not what I bargained for, I just don't have the time or energy to load it up into my car and drive it to Timbuktu (ok, four miles back to the store) and deal with the dismissive, obfuscating, double-talking Geek Squad "techs."

Great unit for a large space

This unit is perfect if you're trying to cool down a large room quickly. The light on the face of the unit is a bit bright so if you are planning on putting it next to your bed, I would recommend a different unit. The only other small complaint I have is that once the air conditioning starts going, the 'kick' it makes when switching from the fan to air is a bit startling. I've gotten used to it over the past few weeks but it can be a bit much in a quiet room.

This works for our intended purpose. I am not 100% sure how this would work in a house. We use it in our garage in S. TX to cool and remove humidity because we have a workshop out there. The unit cools quickly. Overall a good product for the price.

Very happy with the Danby 12000 btu portable. It keeps our 500sq ft living area at 72-75 F with outside temps in the 90s and direct sun. We set the timer to come on about 11am before the temps rise too much. If we cook or have company it might get to 76 but still feels comfortable. Runs more quiet than our high velocity frigidare window unit. Only complaint is that you need the remote to access the sleep and timer modes. Seems to be almost as efficient as a window unit.(costs us about $1/day)
Portables are a great alternative when you don't want an unsightly AC unit visible from the street, or blocking closed curtains.

Our AC went out in the middle of a 100+ degree heat wave. This was the only unit in stock at the local store so I had no other options. Although it will not cool down the entire house, starting in the early evening we were able to put it in one kids room for a while, then the other one to cool them down, and then move it to the master bedroom (about 450 sq.ft.) to run all night. Noise level was acceptable and in fact acted like a white noise generator. The only drawback was the window exhaust kit was somewhat tricky to get in place and keep the hose attached. One time it detached and the hot air that should have been blowing outside was blowing into the room - negating the cooling effect. Took a while to figure out why the room wasn't as cool as before.
Only needed it for a couple days until the AC was repaired, so I can't comment on the durability of this unit. But for an emergency it worked great to keep a decent sized room cool enough to sleep in.

My boyfriend and I purchased this air conditioning unit for our bedroom. We live in an extremely hot climate and even with our AC running in the summer, our bedroom never got cool enough for us to be comfortable at night. Since making this purchase we have been sleeping like babies! It keeps our room cold and comfortable all night long.

Our previous unit of type same btu and brand went out and we replaced it with this. This being the newer model does not have the same settings and does not seem to cool as well for our size apt. If you have a small apt it would be great but not for multiple rooms. Our older unit cooled multiple rooms better.

Poorly made vents for the ac unit. Connecting it was a hassle and needed some tape. However this thing will cool down any bedroom/living room. Product works as intended just wish they spent a little bit more money on the materials they give you.

Bedroom is finally cool - I can sleep

I have a bedroom with very high, cathedral ceilings, west facing bubble skylights & two small west facing windows that don't get much airflow. Combine that with the hot summer temps we've had the last several weeks & you can imagine the oven my room becomes everyday & through the night. This air conditioning unit has helped SO much in cooling this room down to a tolerable temperature that I can finally sleep comfortably. Because of the room size & high ceiling the room never gets cold, but this unit does a decent job.

It's great for one room, but I was expecting it to cover the living room. I thought it would have more power, however if your using it for a bedroom it's perfect and it fits in the window without making any adjustments. It's easy to set up.
