This is a first for me using such a device and I had a pretty good experience over the last few days with it. In the box came the glucose monitor, 10 sterile lancets, 10 disposable covers, as well as the usual quick start guide and warranty documents.I also received an additional 100 lancets as well as 100 test strips. The instructions to use the monitoring system are very straightforward and I find that from unboxing to your first test will take you less than five minutes. The entire monitoring system has a very sleek design and can be easily stored in a pocket with very little to no bulk. It does not require a battery and needs no charging since it works through the attachment it has for your phone. The app ( required for use) is extremely useful and I find that getting a reading ( which requires only a small amount of blood) happens very fast , like within 8 seconds. The app tracks each of your tests based on time and date and you can add notes as well as it has a built in weight and food log. You also have the option to easily share your results with others. The readings I received from the device were very close to what I got when I used the monitoring system my mother using so I am confident that the readings are not bad at all. The criticisms I have for this system begin with the lancets. Even though there is a storage place for the test strips, there is none for the lancets, which for those of us who are not too careful or are forgetful, might cause re-use of a previously used lancet. Also the loading/triggering mechanism for the lancet feels a bit fragile , like it will break and it also deceptively makes you think you should push the lancet all the way down to secure it . This is only a problem in the sense that you will have to then turn the lancet trigger to the highest setting as well as push you finger firmly into the opening for the lancet to pierce your skin (maybe I am thick-skinned). The final complaint I have is that built quality feels cheap and therefore durability of the product is in question. It is very light and might have been designed to be so but it doesn’t feel very solid and I don’t know how long it will last.

Pros: it's small and discreet, you can take with you anywhere. You can now test your sugars and get results in a matter of seconds, all on your smartphone, yes you need a smartphone. it's "all in one". The app is great at logging and good motivation with its In Range scoring system. Cons: The strips are expensive and you can only rely on the ones they send. if you plan on using a wipe and new needles every time you take a sample, you will have to carry them in another place because only the strips and one needle fit in the package. Meh

Dario - Blood Glucose Monitoring System Starter Kit - Android - Black I’m going to break this review down into parts. Each part of the system will be reviewed as a stand alone item with an overall remark at the end. What you get: My system came with the meter, lancet device, 100 lancets, and 100 test strips. I see they are offering this exact system with only 10 lancets and 10 test strips. Different offers at different times. Every company does this, so high marks for what I got. Lancet device: The Lancet device is also the case that holds everything. If the lancet device fails the whole thing is a loss. This is a poor design to try and keep cost down and portability up. Locking the lancet device into the ready position is easy but not completely clear. The click you hear when it’s ready is very faint. Changing a lancet is not easy, you almost need a set of pliers to get them out. Not because they are held in that tight, but because they are so close to the side of the case that fingers have a hard time gripping them for removal. There are only 4 settings on the depth however there is nothing stopping you from leaving it between numbers. The lancet itself is a small needle and is very comfortable when pricking your finger. Although the lancet devise/case holds 25 test strips it has no place for extra lancets. I would not feel comfortable using the same lancet for 25 tests. For overall use this is a 50/50. Test Strips: My unit came with 100 test strips. They are easy to use but not so easy to get out of the case. Again they are held in the lancet device but at the other end, under a removable cap. Not a cap you can remove, but a cap that MUST be removed to access the test strip container that has another flip cap on it. When closing the test strip cap if you hold the unit so the strips are at the closing end, the cap will bend the next test strip. You need to hold the device so the strips are at the hinged end of the cap. Then you need to replace the cap on the lancet device. This cap should be hinged like the one on the test strip container. For this I give it a little lower score because of the bending the test strips and 2 caps to open. The meter: Again the meter is held in the lancet device. You push a little slid button and the meter pops out. This little door that hold the meter will not stay closed without the meter put back. This does not cause any difficulty using the device. The meter then gets inserted onto your headphone jack. The iPhone one probably gets inserted into the lightning port, just a guess. You must download the software onto your phone. Then make an account and give it permissions for just about everything. I denied most of them because there is no way my glucose meter needs access to everything on my phone. This is a major invasion of privacy and I wouldn’t be surprised if future software updates remove all the access the app is wanting. It wants access to Camera, Contacts, Location, Microphone, Phone, and storage. It also asks permission to install other apps to work with it, no thank you. Here is the first major fail of this system. The meter will only fit a phone that is either naked or with one of those thin protect nothing covers. If you have a real case, say Otterbox or Lifeproof, forget it. You will need to purchase an extender for any real case. Lifeproof already knows you can’t use the headphone jack so you get the extender, others don’t. If they would have made the meter to fit a real case, not just a cover, this wouldn’t be an issue. Or even included one in the lancet case, problem solved. Here’s the second fail on the meter. Accuracy, plain and simple. My existing meter has been checked at my doctors office to ensure it’s accuracy. The Dario meter is accurate between 90 and 120. Below 90 it reads about 12 points high. So when I don’t feel well the Dario tells me I’m at 72. Low for me but not enough for me to feel this bad. My existing meter then tells me I’m at 60, well that’s why I don’t feel well. On the other end of the scale it reads even higher. My morning fasting reading with the Dario was 162. What? Why so high? Recheck with my existing meter and it’s 120. I’m seeing lots of reviews of out of range readings for the Dario, I was hoping that wouldn’t be the case for me. I’ve tried many meters over the 2 decades I’ve been using them. Some are good, some are great, and some are just plain bad. Even name brand meters can be junk. This meter is for the people who are just getting started and only need to see how close they are to 90-120. In that range it is accurate. My bottom line: I would like to use, and like this meter, but I can’t. I need something more accurate and easier to deal with. My existing meter comes in a small zipper case that holds everything you could need for 50 tests. The Dario is not accurate enough and only holds 25 test strips and no extra lancets.

    Advanced testing kit

This is more advanced than other blood sugar testing kits I've used, and there's a lot that I like about it. However, I was disappointed that it didn't come with a pouch or carrying case. I've seen less expensive kits that have one included and I was surprised this doesn't have one. I'd give it 4 & a half stars, but don't think that oversight takes away from the overall usefulness and reliability of this system. I would still very much recommend it, since this is such a minor issue. The Dario system is a self-contained device. The full kit comes with the system or device, which includes a small package of lancets, ten disposable phone covers, and two guides, a box of lancets, and a box of test strips. These last 2 can be reordered separately, although when I checked prices, they're more than for my other kit. The strips are put into a cartridge of ten strips that fit in a compartment on one end, and the lancing device is the other end, rather than a separate item. There's a button on the side of the device which releases the glucose meter. Remove this part from the device, then the plug fits into the headphone jack on your cell phone. Install the app on your phone, plug in the meter, and it walks you through the steps the first time, which actually takes less time than the tutorial. When prompted by the app, put a strip in the meter, add a drop of blood, and the results show on the screen in a few seconds. The advantage to the meter plugging into the phone is that the app holds all of the results, instead of the device. Set up the profile and the app keeps up with additional personal and medical details. You can also enter nutritional info and connect a fitness app to the Dario app. It's a pretty thorough system which goes beyond just accurate testing, and provides additional tools to assist with managing diabetes. I found that the app on the phone was easy to use and very helpful.

I have Type 2 Diabetes. Fortunately, mine is controlled by medication, but I do occasionally have to check my sugars. I do not like carrying around a meter, though, as I don’t check them all the time. They are cumbersome to carry, and most don’t log your sugars so that you can track them. You either have to have an additional app or carry a log around in order to record them. Yes, they do have memories, but don’t sync with a computer. Just not convenient for me. The Dario comes very close to solving most of those issues. The actual unit is small, compared to a standard meter. The unit holds your transmitter, your lancet device, and stores your strips. It’s small enough to carry in a clutch or purse without taking up too much room. The transmitter plugs into your headset jack (so you’ll need to make sure your phone has one). The Dario app tracks and records your readings and can even alert an emergency contact if you have a hypoglycemic event. It’s a rather ingenious design. However, since you have to change out a lancet each time you test, it would have been nice if they went a step further and had a way to store extra lancets. Then it would be a matter of grabbing and going, rather than trying to remember an extra item (e.g. bag of lancets). I will add that I did mention the Dario to my Diabetes Management program nurse, and she was very excited about it. She was going to share the information about the unit to others in our program.

    Compact, but not accurate

My wife, having type 1 diabetes since the age of 5 was very excited about this product. Especially, since it was compact, and no meter is needed since your phone is effectively your meter. It has a very smart design, with the strips, phone adapter, and lancer stored in the main unit. Which in itself is about the size of some of her makeup she keeps in her purse (which i'm afraid to go inside of haha). So, basically, the phone adapter goes in your phone, you place the testing strip into the adapter and collect your sample just like any other unit on the market. The Dario keeps a log right in its app (which is user friendly). The app can also be set up to send me an alert and her location if her levels are low. This feature I was especially excited about, because I always worry she will get low and not know where she is on her commute to/from work. This actually did happen while she was at work, I called her - she sounded fine. She then re-tested and her reading came back on the low end of normal. She then tested herself on her normal meter and it was completely normal. So this is sort of a big deal. After this fiasco, we experimented at home taking 3 readings 5 minutes apart. Each one was vastly different. 80, 130, and then 90. Perhaps this wouldn't be a problem with someone who doesn't "get low" very often. But it's a big deal with someone who is a type 1 (with an insulin pump) who in my medical opinion (as an RN) is very "brittle". For that reason alone, I cannot recommend this product to a diabetic who needs very accurate readings. All the bells and whistles are nice touches, but don't mean a whole lot if the reading(s) are not accurate. Also the Dario cannot use generic testing strips, and you must purchase them directly from the company. Which they do offer a subscription plan for... But, at this point I'm not going to even bother.

I had high hopes for this device when I selected it for review, however it didn't deliver as I'd hoped. I took my blood sugar with both the Dario as well as my usual glucose meter for most readings. The first check, it said 97. That was the only time I didn't. It was 1:30 and I'd not eaten all day. I felt shaky and needing to eat so it was probably lower. The next check it read 159. I was so surprised, I checked with my usual which read 109. That's too far off! I then grabbed my husband's meter which said 107. The next check It was again 50 higher than my usual and my husband's meter. Every reading after was approximately 50 higher than my meter as well as my husband's meter. I looked for control solution and found in the instructions it's not included with the "welcome unit." I was tempted to try with the control solution that came with my meter, but it expired a month ago. I then found that to get the control solution, it cost $8.99 to order! I feel that it should come with the "welcome unit" if it can possibly be so far off right out of the box. It also seemed when I added a drop of blood to the strip that it took the blood twice as the timer circle in the app seemed to start over. It may have been the reason the reading was off, but i didn't move away from the blood drop and put it back. I think the concept of this item is awesome however I think it still needs a little or a lot of tweaking. Can't argue with the numbers. I really wanted to love it.

Dario - Blood Glucose Monitoring System Starter Kit - Android - Black I come into this review a complete rookie when it comes to monitoring my glucose levels. This is the results of working with my doctor and my pre-diabetic diagnosis.. I have started on a daily medicine to manage my glucose levels. I haven’t been on the meds for very long so my follow up doctor visit is still some weeks away. My family has a history of being diabetic so although I keep my weight in check and don’t eat a lot of sugar it appears this was going to happen to me no matter what I did. So this brings us the the Dario Blood Glucose Monitoring kit. To start with the process of testing is pretty easy. Once you do it a few time it is very easy and I like that the results don’t take much time to get. The portable kit is quite self contained with but I don’t understand why it does not have a way to carry the extra lances you need. It does carry plenty of test stips but only one lance at a time. So that is an extra item to keep track of. The written instructions to use the monitor are easy to understand but if you have any questions the videos linked from the Dario site are very comprehensive and walk you through using the monitor. I had a problem with my first two tests. Checked my wife who was in a perfect range and then later I got consistent readings. Not the numbers I was hoping for but this is a medical issue that requires constant monitoring. So I am very lucky to now have the ability to see if I can work my glucose levels and not be guessing. The software on my Android phone is quite easy to use and I understand there is almost no difference with the IOS software for the Apple platform. There are a lot of tracking options in the software that I am just now starting to explore. Dario has a few monthly subscription plans for getting the replacement supplies and other services they offer. For now I won’t be exploring those services until I have a better understanding of my needs and with consulting my doctor. At least I will have more testing information for his review so he can better advise me on how I manage my glucose going forward. I can’t rate this monitor against other products in the market. What I can say is this meter was very simple to use. And I feel empowered to better manage my medical condition. I still have a lot to learn and to have a daily scheduled for testing. What I can say is that if your in the market for a glucose testing meter I would recommend the Dario system. Keep in mind I am a rookie here but Dario has a lot of resources for me to learn from. With some time and actual numbers I will have the information I need to manage this unfortunate medical condition.

    HANDY GLUCOSE METER

I originally got the DARIO Blood Glucose Monitoring System because my husband is a TYPE 2 Diabetic. I thought he would find it useful, but needed a smartphone, which he didn't have until recently. During the past month, I have now been diagnosed as a pre-diabetic, so now I'm starting to use the DARIO. DARIO Glucose Meter was easy to setup and downloading the appl to my Samsung S8+ was quick. The device was easy to start using. The appl is attractive and pretty easy to use in order to track your blood testing and the time of day (or pre-/post- meal) the test was done. What I'm having continual problems with is the lancet ... either pricking my finger the "first time" I use it ... OR ... it pricking deep enough to extract enough blood for the DARIO to test it. I have adjusted the "setting" from 1 to 4, and I didn't find much difference in the actual puncturing of my skin. I also manually adjusted the lancet in how "high" it sits in the trigger area. For the first 4 physical tests I successfully did, I went through 5 lancets and about 8 test strips. I'm also concerned that the results may not be very accurate. For the above referenced first 4 tests I did, the results were: 282, 399, 377, and 353. All high (as I expected since I was very stressed out due to other medical issues), but the last 3 were all done within 15 minutes of each other. I felt the results should have been "close" to each other. I'm continuing to use DARIO because I find it valuable and important for me to easily track my glucose numbers. Nice device!

Having a compact test kit that's small enough to fit in your pocket is pretty cool. The DARIO system is a little bigger than a disposable lighter. Neat eh? The app is a simple download and necessary for the system to work. That's the part I'm uneasy about. More personal info online. Shudder. But you can keep track of as much or little info as you prefer. Your medical provider may find this type of tracking very useful in managing your diabetes. Since I don't know the cost of test strips I cannot honestly say how this system compares. A compact system that's the Swiss Army knife of testing is a pretty good deal.

This simplifies keeping a check on my blood sugar. Everything you need is in one unit. The testing strip unit attaches to your phone through the headphone jack, and the testing strip requires a tiny amount of blood. The app analyzes the blood quickly. Having test results automatically saved in the app makes it easy to spot trends and patterns. Definitely an upgrade from my old unit.

I bought one but it did not work. I tried to get help from Dario customer support. They didn't do anything for replacement but they claimed on the phone setting and the software was corrupted. After resetting of the phone according to their instruction and reinstall the software but it still doesn't work. After all, they cheated us for money.

Initial setup was fine. I called in 2019 and told them that my mother was no longer using the system and I didn't need them to call or send me supplies. They kept billing my card. for 2020 and 2021. I was notified only because I saw my credit card notice. Do NOT sign up with them and expect them to cancel even when you call. They said all calls are monitored and recorded. However, they can only see notes where I called and said she was not using regularly. Not that I cancelled. How convenient.
