I worked with an extremely helpful and patient associate, who took the time to explain the process to solve the issue and took a thorough look at my broken hard drive. I am waiting to speak with the lab to see if it's possible to retrieve some of the files stored in it, other companies have already given up, not offering the same options he did.

They charged me to send off and then tell me it’s going to cost more to open and diagnose. They said they did not open it up actually they did open it up and possibly damage the retrieval of the information on it. Do not recommend sending anything off to get recovered from Best Buy

Geek squad tried to recover my data on my external hard drive (passport). We think the device slipped a pin. They could not figure out how to get it back, so they refunded my money. The staff was friendly, professional, and as helpful as they could be. Referred me to the experts that the device encouraged to use to recover data. While I dropped $800 to get it back, I recovered a ton of my data for the life of three to four separate computers. I continue to make my computer and hardware purchases at Bestbuy because the staff are professional, courteous, and knowledge. Our team in Las Cruces are top notch.

I was a little worried about sending off my hard drive to be worked on or replaced because of all the data that I might lose but it turns out that the Best Buy recovery team called me and made it seamless and with my protection and already purchased hard drive to go with it they were able to recover the data and it didn’t cost me a dime This program is great.

Well, folks - get a portable drive and back up your stuff ASAP because it's generally time-consuming, expensive, and stressful to have to send in a hard drive for data recovery. Then they don't want to put anything on your portable drive except stuff under your standard user locations so if you (or your special programs) have saved stuff in other locations, kiss it good bye or get some other service that is more customized. I got great quality of the data that was recovered! I think that if you paid for your programs and stuff they should not refuse to recover it, but at least they warned me of this, and they meant it. It was sent across the country with good tracking and communications so I always knew where it was and in what stage, and had choices communicated to me. I was on a short time frame and very grateful for getting my work back promptly!

Local agents were unable to retrieve the contents of my hard drive. It was sent to Kentucky and they have retrieved some of my stuff. I will not know until it is installed on my new hard drive how successful the process was.

The local BestBuy wasn't able to recover any data from my crashed hard drive so they recommended I ship it into the main facility. I was informed they were able to recover data with corruption levels being in a range of "little to none" and "Slight". Not really sure if that means every file has "little to none" or "slight" corruption or just specific individual files. For the recovery of 53.2 G of corrupted data they want $550 for labor + media + tax. I think I will pass not knowing what I'm really going to end up with.

Being able to talk face-to-face with a person that really knows computers and is able to suggest solutions is wonderful. In addition, my computer had to be sent in to the tech center in order to be fixed. The in-store agent explained the procedures and costs that would be involved. Then, once my computer reached the tech center, I was contacted with explanations and a time frame within which the repairs would be finished. When the drive was completed, I was again contacted to let me know what outcome they had achieved, and that the computer was on the way to my home store. I am still amazed at the level of professionalism and the constant care and communication that I received! Personal, Professional and Competent . . . how could it get any better?

I had a corrupt flash drive that needed to be recovered. I had most of the documents on it backed up but there was about 3-4 month's worth of work (presentations) that I hadn't yet. Unfortunately, most of my new documents were not recoverable but I wasn't aware until after I received the flash drive back (description from report said little to no corruption). Certainly not Geek Squad's fault (I bought a cheap flash drive). I appreciate their effort. If I had to do it all again, I'd probably not pay what I did to not get what I needed. I’ve had to recreate most of that work anyways, which I could've just done in the first place and saved myself $250!

Garbage Data Recovery

I checked in my camera’s SD card for the store to recover the accidently formatted data. And I purchased the membership option because level 1 recovery was included in the benefits. Before than I already attempted try to recover the photos and video by myself using free software, most of the photos were recovered but the videos were corrupted. Since the videos are important to me, I sent in the SD card to BestBuy and hope they’ll recover it. However, after two days when it is time to pick up the SD card I brought my laptop to check the files, the videos were all unplayable and some of the photos were corrupted. I basically paid the $200 just to get the same results that I couldve done myself. So I proceeded to call to cancel the membership immediately after checking the files. The when I told the customer service representative to cancel my membership, he told me to hold and cancelled it without telling me how much I’ll get back. In the end, he told me that I’ll only get $47 refund for cancellation. I told him I would rather keep the membership if that’s the only amount I could get back, he said he couldn’t cancel the refund because of company policy. So I basically paid $169 ($216 taxed - $47) for a garbage recovery service that I literally could do using free softwares. Such a disappointment. I would not recommend for anyone to this service.

I was kept updated during the data recovery process. The recovery team received and analyzed my hard drive which took about 2 weeks. Once I approved going forward with the data recovery, I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to complete. It actually only took another 2 weeks. Fortunately, the damage was minimal and nearly 100% of my data was recovered. The missing files were unimportant.

My external hard drive failed but the GS agent want able to recover the data in store. He recommended mailing it out for a level 2 recovery. Even though they were only able to recover about 25GB of data or of the 1TB external drive the process was seamless.

Help desk did their best and explained needed to send out. Appears they do not do opening of USB's there but send out the external hard drives to another Best Buy location. Waiting on final of this since have seen Level3 recovery report and waiting on final product which will use new external that went to shop.

I had a HDD drive crash on me and I had about 10,000 pictures stored on it. I took it to Best Buy Geek Squad and they could not get it start up, the same problem I had. They sent it out to their recovery lab and recovered about 75% of my photos. After the recovery process they put my recovered photos on a new WD easystore drive. I will never get the photos that I lost back, but I appreciate Geek Squad doing a fine job on recovering the ones that could be saved. Thanks Squad! Also always back up your photos and data on multiple drives. Don't learn the hard way like I did.
