Gameplay is responsive, equipment matters, and playthroughs aren't dauntingly long since you tend to clear familiar areas faster as you go. Plus saves will keep you right where you are in a run, which is best if you expect interruptions like I do. Some humor and some (mostly optional) story are there to discover also.

This is a fun game, but hard. It's one of those games where you have to die to move forward.

in hand held mode. Most games I haven't been that crazy about playing in hand held mode but with this game it didn't bother me too much.
Dead Cells is a pretty good game for the money. I've gotten a decent amount of hours so far with it and still find it enjoyable but I've had to put it down recently because it's kind of become a bit of a grind.
I'd say look into some dead cells tip videos otherwise you might waste a ton of hours that you wouldn't otherwise.

I’m not a huge Metroidvania genre fan, however dead cells (as well as hollow knight and guacamelee) pulled me in. It is a difficult play as it takes some getting used to. Majority won’t breeze through this game as timing and map memorization gets important for optimal runs.

Honestly, I never heard of this game at all nor even knew it existed.
My friend gave me this game as a suggestion and I said "what the heck, let's try it".
3 weeks later, and I cannot stop playing it. It is the perfect combination of anger, frustration and rage quiting and at the same time relief and accomplishment.
You are going to die. Period. That's the point of the game. I quote Cleveland from Family Guy "You don't win, you just do a little better every time" and it's so true.
When you die, you start over from the very beginning, BUT anything you unlock (weapons, mutations, etc) carries over to the new game and you get this urge to see how you can go "this time" around.
It's such a great side scrolling platformer with an interesting story arc. I highly recommend this to anyone's Switch Library.

First off rogue games are not my favorite but Dead Cells does it right. You might start over again but every time you die you keep certain aspects you’ve gained so eventually you will get powerful enough to move forward. Easily have hours sunk into this game and I just got it. Highly recommend!

This games lives up to the hype, and the developers and continuing to work and update it. There was just a huge balance patch added, and I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't the last one they did. The controls are tight, and with the large variety of weapons, the games does not get stale quickly.

Ok so metroidvania is a term being used a lot, there are a lot of games being released in that style. However this game takes that amazing formula and changes it up by adding rougelite elements like no checkpoints. It is a great game if you like the genres mentioned. The replayability is very high.

This is my first step into this genre of game. I must say it is addictive. When I die on a run and plan to quit, I'll usually take a look at what weapons are next and then decide just one more... It is feeling a little bit like a grind but it is still fun hours later.

Depending on the day, I may call this my game of the year for 2018. At the very least it is my favorite indie game of 2018. It's definitely not for everyone, it requires dedication and legitimate practice to progress, but it's so rewarding to do so. Highly recommended.

I really enjoy the level and artwork of Dead Cells. The gameplay is quite different in that you learn or pick up new skills / items that let you advance further in the game after you die. This gives you a reason to continue and try to peel away at the story.

A great game that is slightly different every time you play.

This is one of those games that makes you say "just one more try," and then suddenly it's three in the morning. Frustrating but not too frustrating, intense but not too intense, very well-tuned and ultimately very worth the purchase price.

Dead Cells is a simple yet addictive game. Lots to explore and replay ability is through the roof. Won best action game of the year when it was released for good reason. Plays well on the Switch.

I'm not typically a fan of perma-death games but this one I find to be very fun! It's hard to put down! Plus I've sunk about 20hrs in so far and have not gotten near beating it yet so plenty of game time as well! Highly recommend!

I am not normally a big fan of rogue/rogue lite type games. However, Dead Cells is phenomenal. It is paced very well. Gameplay mechanic's are smooth and precise. Loving every minute, even after the hundreds of times I've died.

My first thought upon dying was that I’d rather play Symphony of the Night. So I turned it off and played a better game on my PS3. If your looking for something new or portable I’m sure this is fun and worthwhile.
