I was shopping for new subwoofer and came across these BP9040 speakers. Built in 8" subwoofers. You are able to adjust the amount of bass you like. Movies and music sound awesome. Still surprised how great they sound, paired with CS9040. The mids are incredibly clear, with the right amount of bass. Solving my subwoofer problem. Ended up being a great time to upgrade my L/C/R speakers.Thunderous and clear sounding. You can feel the bass through your chest.. 7.2 setup with Denon X2200 pushing them. I can always later add A90 atmos speakers later as well.- Mensrea69

Absolutely outstanding sound. Great mids and lows, will always sound better with an amplifier instead of a straight AVR. The Bipolar aspect definitely fills the void in which you'd think is a small tower. Do not let rhe size fool you. Will only sound better once my house is finally built and i can move into the loving room.

I wasn’t sure if i wanted the BP9060 or BP9040. But after some thinking I went for the BP9040 because my rears are the SR9040 and my center is the CS9040 so i wanted everything to match. I’m really happy with the def tech speakers and the sound is amazing. I recently got the A90 and do notice the overhead sound. The bass one the 9040 is really good for its size. I have a Marantz SR6015 and present 1 is setup to what def tech recommends and present 2 is LFE. The only big thing I noticed definitely is the bass. The bass control on the speaker itsell is only at the 3 o’clock position and it’s crazy how much bass the produce. I definitely do want to buy 2 more of the 9040 along with a90 for the rears to have the full 5.0.4 surround sound. Still not sure if i need the emotiva amp. If i do get one I’ll start small for the a90’s.

These speakers are awesome! I was comparing these two an equivalent Bowers and Wilkins. The sound is crisp and fills the room. I have a designated home theater and chose these for the ease of adding Atmos upfacing speakers. I have a large paradigm subwoofer as part of the system and there’s not too much bass with the individual subs in the towers. Very happy with the purchase.

I wasn’t familiar with the brand and the price was a little more than I was expecting to spend. Bottom line if it’s your price range you’ll be very pleased.
I knew that I was going to take the 14 days to really try the system. Sound quality and construction was everything I expected

Upgraded the TV room with all DEF TECH except subs. Chose the Def Tech due to it's bi polar sound design because the room lacks side walls and is very open. Def Tech Towers BP9040's, CS9040 center, SR9040 surround, AVR Denon X3400H, PB-2000 Subs. Outstanding room filling sound couldn't be more pleased. Not using towers built in subs.

I did a major upgrade to my home theater and these Speakers completed the project! Since these speakers can handle the watts, I did add a 200 Watt Per Channel Amplifier. The pop sounds that some folks have written about, did happen once or twice for the few two weeks. I've since completed the burn-in period and I haven't heard it.

This is one of 5, have 2 towers. Heard demo in the "magnolia room" before we purchased and are so pleased with the performance of the whole system. Go sit and listen then buy.

Great set of speakers! They are visually some of the best looking speakers out there. The BP 9000 series is excellent and this is the second tier in the series. They sound absolutely great for small to medium sized rooms. Some people will not need a separate subwoofer but if you have a home theater, you absolutely still should have a dedicated subwoofer or two.
Speakers sound great, especially for the sale price. I wouldn’t pay $1000 a piece but for half of that and less they are absolutely a steal.

The Definitive Technology 9040 speakers have completely transformed my listening experience. Right out of the box, these speakers impress with their sleek, modern design that effortlessly complements any room décor. But it’s the sound quality where they truly shine.
These speakers deliver an audio performance that is nothing short of spectacular. The highs are crisp and clear, the mids are well-defined, and the bass—thanks to the integrated subwoofers—rumbles with an intensity that you can feel in your bones. Whether I’m watching an action-packed movie or enjoying a symphony orchestra, the soundstage is wide and immersive, making me feel like I’m in the center of the action.
Setup was a breeze, with intuitive connections that had me up and running in no time. The build quality is robust, ensuring that these speakers will be a part of my home audio system for many years to come.
Overall, the Definitive Technology 9040 speakers offer an unrivaled listening experience that audiophiles and casual listeners alike will appreciate. If you’re looking for speakers that combine aesthetic appeal with powerful, detailed sound, look no further.

WOW! Upgraded from Def Tech Pro 1000 5.1 Isetup I bought in 2007 to the BP9040, CS9040, A90 Atmos and rear SR9080 with a Def Tech DN10 sub. Using a Sony STRZA5000ES receiver these sound absoulutely AMAZING! Researched many different brands and listened to everything I could find before I bought these. After 6 months they sound better everyday. 14x17 living room. No regrets and I recommend these to all my friends. Best investment I've made in a long time.

In 2015 I wanted an affordable great sounding Home Theater system, did lots of research and chose a Def Tech Pro Cinema 600 speaker system and a Yamaha RXA 1050 Receiver. I thought I was in heaven and my family and friends were very impressed at how large and clean everything sounded for nearly being invisible in the modest 14'x18' Living room. I thought I was set and done! I'm also a sucker for stopping in the Best Buy "sound room" to listen to all the cool expensive speakers... last year thats when it really started! I walked out of the store with a new set of Def Tech BP 9040 Towers, then a month later, I got a CS 9040 Center speaker, then a month later, a pair of SR 9040 Surrounds. I thought I was complete and done... NOT! A couple months later I ordered the A 90 Atmos tower topper speakers. (Don't get me wrong, the Pro Cinema 600 system is a fine sounding set of speakers for their size, they easily shook the room and I loved them.) After about a total tweaking time of 2 hours cumulative with the receiver, this new 9040 speaker system is phenomenal as far as I'm concerned. I've been to many AMC, Harkins and other theaters.... My living room sounds just as good... anyone that has heard my little theater will agree... they are always wanting to know when they can come back and watch another movie. If you are looking for an awesome moderately priced home theater speaker system, Give these Def Techs a listen... You'll probably do what I did, I love mine!

I wanted some good speakers for music in my bar room and these were not it. Yes the bass is great, but the mids and highs are lacking. I set up my klipsch R-625FA Tower Speakers, and they sounded way better. The DFs highs sound really bad. when the vocals are a must, for music, these really disappoint. My klipsch are a fraction of the price of the DT and do a much better job. Why they are originally 1100 each is crazy to me. I did get them on sale for 600 each, but even then, that is way too much. I set these up in my living room with my atmos set up and when these have a center channel, to handle the vocals, it was a much better setup. These are definitely only for movies, not for music listening. Even then, if you have an atmos set up with a good sub, you dont need these at all. Some cheaper towers that handle the mids will do. Dont know why the reviews are so high fir these. For the price, you can get way better towers.

I am a bit biased as I have the Pro Cinema 600 in my guest room for gaming and movies, the Pro Cinema 1000 in the master for movies and the AW 6500 outdoor speakers for music. The BP9040’s are my first pair of Bi-Polar and first pair of towers, they have overachieved in all areas! The room filling bi polar soundstage is a must for theater experience(friends and family alike prefer my house to the theater), and I coupled them with the atmos speakers, never going back to satellites alone! The clarity and punch of these towers is exciting, I can’t wait to listen to movies and music alike as the experience with the BP’s is like going from DVD to Blu-ray, there is no comparison.
These are efficient speakers but I would reccomend throwing some real power at them to experience their full capabilities. I started with 100 watts from a Yamaha receiver which sounded good, but I upgraded to a high end Marantz amp which Tom the system over the top. The integrated subs go deeper than I thought, low enough to shake your nose yet adjustable if you do not want to wake the Neighbor’s. Worth every penny, next time I am going got the BP9080’s.

Just recently replaced my decades old DefTech BP20's, with the new BP9040 towers, and i can't say enough about the sound coming out of these speakers and with the added powered subwoofer each one has, the bass is incredible. Makes the music sound like a live performance with precision depth clarity and room filling satisfaction like no other. Definitive Technology is always a constant winner when you are obsessed with sound!!

The sound quality is better than I expected. I am hearing sounds in movies that I didn't hear with my previous setup. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone who wants quality in their home theater .
