    Great sound from a soundbar

I compared this to a Sonos system in my local Best Buy and really wanted the Sonos system to sound better since it supported rear channels. However, the sound from this DT soundbar is amazing. The sub-woofer is excellent and the unit is very easy to install. The remote is a bit primitive but does everything necessary. For a virtual sound system in a limited space or for someone who doesn't want speaker wires everywhere, this is a great option. It supports multiple HDMI inputs + optical. I fed everything to it using HDMI and then HDMI to my TV except for streaming over the internet, which comes into my TV and outputs to the soundbar via optical. A bit pricy but worth it to me.

Sound bar sounds great, but set-up for WiFi music was cumbersome. Great customer support team and good tech support hours assisted in set up. Additionally was hoping that this sound at supported the HDMI ARC for sound quality and inputs, but had to use optical connection instead, otherwise I would not get antenna TV sound out of the sound bar. Very happy with sound quality however.

Perfect sound for music and movies. Easy set up. With app I can play favorite streaming. Bass and center sound as dynamic as 7 speaker Denon system I had in house

Bought to replace wired 5.1 surround system with Yamaha receiver and Definitive speakers. The sound is very good from this sound bar but not equal to my previous system for separating surround sound direction. The build quality of this unit is poor. No hardware is included for wall mounting. Managed to break the cheap plastic spacers included for mounting (Definitive did send me new ones). The buttons on the top of the unit for power and volume are also cheaply designed and easily damaged. Space is tight for the cables that you would connect to the various inputs. Was able to connect my Apple TV via HDMI and use the unit as an AirPlay speaker in conjunction with my other AirPlay speakers. Have not used PlayFi feature. Overall a very good unit, just don't expect real surround sound and be very careful when mounting and wiring.

The sound from the bar is fantastic and the psycho surround is really cool. It is easy to set up. However, there are two major issues that may be addressed on the software/firmware side. First and foremost, don’t buy this if you hope to have a wireless home-wide sound system. The DTS PlayFi app is difficult to use and fails to reliably access my iOS library, making me wish for an old Bluetooth system. It’s maddening. Now that I’m committed, I hope DTS developers improve the Play-Fi app. Second, there is no display or indicator of the audio mode (2.1? 5.1? DTS? Dolby?) except volume, which clearly doesn’t need one. So it’s hard to troubleshoot home theater sound playback.

This has amazing sound for a stand alone sounbar and sub but I wanted surround sound and was told I could pair the w7's as surrounds with this but it is not possible. I had to return and get the studio micro version which paired perfectly.

nice, clean loud center channel. very nice bass. the only reason i am not giving 5 star rating is because of the night sound function and surround sound mode. the night sound on typically is not controlling the ups and downs between the channels and advertisement. surround sound mode at +10 also did not give good surround effect.

Likes: 1. Excellent sound. Very well balanced. Bass is clear and solid (after my little tweak below), especially when playing dvd's and streamed music connected by aux cable (no bluetooth). No distortion or glare even when volume is at max. 2. The center channel volume is adjustable 3. The finish! 4. When I was first playing with it I noticed that the bass can get little boomy. Not always. But it bothered me a little. IMO it's because of the sub's housing's lack of heftiness. I was surprised that the soundbar feels more robust than the sub. So I put a couple of heavy textbooks and a 15-lb dumbbell weight on top of the sub - huge improvement. It's out of sight anyway. 5. The build of the soundbar - it is very solid. I think it's actually heavier than the sub. 6. Convincing rendering of 5.1. Dislikes: 1. No bluetooth, but they have a valid reason I think. 2. More often than not, picture and sound do not sync. I've contacted customer support, got a response in a couple of days, and it was a software update to be input into the unit via thumb drive. Have not done it yet. 3. There's that little issue with the sub - see above. 4. Soundwise, not much difference between the Music and Movie settings. This is probably not doable because left and right channels are a mere three feet apart(?) Not really a problem for me. Overall, i am very pleased with this purchase. Soon i will scope out expansion possibilities - the other reason for this choice.

Decent sound but a few drawbacks.

The setup documentation isn't step by step and the documents are in different places. Calling support meant getting a call back but they did call back that day and were very helpful. You have to download apps to your phone to set it up for wireless music playback but again the documentation about which app you need and steps to go in is not very good. The feature for programming other the codes from other remotes to the soundbar doesn't work. There are no EQ, bass, treble or surround settings adjustments. You can adjust the overall volume, sub volume and center volume that's it. You can't add other wireless speakers to this unit to make it a true 5.1 system but you can do that with the smaller version of this soundbar. Last drawback is the soundbars overall volume could be a bit louder I have a large room and it this unit struggles with movie sound effects not the sub that's fine only the sound bar struggles. I got this on sale for $400 and while the overall sound is good and dialog for movies and TV shows is clear I wouldn't recommend this at the full $1400 price. At $400 it's not a bad deal but research on this unit leads you to think you can add wireless units to it and that with the apps you can modify EQ settings etc... and you can't. Knowing what I know now I'd certainly audition other units especially the smaller version that can expand with wireless speakers before buying this one again.

Had my eye on this system for months. Finally bought when on sale and have been loving it. Best money spent in awhile. Easy setup right out of box. Love not having wires run all over the house. Sounds and looks great, highly recommended! Only negative is remote kinda boring.

This soundbar looks terrific and the sound is very good. I particularly like being able to enhance the center sound for those movies where it is at times hard to understand the dialog. The only thing to improve is the surround sound; maybe my bedroom is not shaped for optimum surround sound.

When it comes to music, Definitive Technology knows how to play music. Especially if your music is lossless the sound is excellent, you can hear every sound crystal clear. I had plenty of time watching movies and I can tell you that sound is better than any other sound-bar out there. it really complements my 55in sony tv. I'm really happy with my Definity Technology W-Studio wireless sound system. Yes, I would really recommend it to a friend.

I was looking for a high quality sound bar for both clear tv sound (especially dialog) and listening to music. Sound is rich and clear! Big plus that it is expandable to whole-house system over time. Only negative is that the computer control program is only available for PCs and I have only Mac computers in my house. Hopefully Definitive Technology will add Mac software in the near future.

I have been shopping around for one of the best sound bars that would work with my room. I have two walls of windows (floor to ceiling) with wood floors, this is the one of the worst rooms for sound. But after looking around and trying to find the best i could for the moeny i gave this one a shot. And let me tell you I love it... it for sure surprised me and I can hear great now.

If you are serious about sound bar just go and get this one. You are really going to enjoy surround sound, every sound bar produces a good sound when you hear it, but only you notice when you put the two sound bars and compare. If you can afford this sound bar, don't even think twice just grab it.

Purchased this on sale and have been thoroughly pleased. Used this to replace an old Denon surround setup since I wanted to declutter. The soundstage isn’t as wide as it once was but the sound in general is great. Dialog is clear and forward while the bass was initially overwhelming, it got better once I found a good acoustic spot for the subwoofer. HDMI switching works well and it plays nicely with my Harmony remote. The most pleasant surprise was how it handled music in the “music” mode. Not audiophile by any means but sure is a fun listen from directv streams. Understandably it’s not 4K compatible but it’s gonna be a bit before I transition from regular Blu-ray. If you don’t need 4K or Bluetooth, this will work!

This sound bar has a nice clear sound quality. The Subwoofer provides the correct amount of "thump" needed for all applications. The instructions for set up left me guessing at first, but once I downloaded the app all was well.
