    Great Laptop for the Price

Bought this laptop as a Christmas gift for my nephew. He's in college and needed a more powerful laptop for his engineering software. I was looking for a laptop that can run all the engineering software which required high resolution and quick response. Also the numeric keypad which this laptop has! BestBuy and Dell representative were both very helpful explaining to us about all the features about this Dell - G7 15.6 laptop. They told us that even though this is a gaming laptop, it would be the best to handle the engineering software and the processor horse power underneath will surely deliver the performance. We made the decision to buy this based upon the pros: 1. 16GB of DDR4 RAM - DDR4 is much faster and with 16GB is plenty for him 2. 128gb SSD - definitely enough for him to load the engineering software for fast launching 3. 1TB HDD is surely plenty for him to store data 4. the Dell rep did pointed out that this laptop has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design which is best for gaming graphics but would also can handle the high graphic software that hi will be using it for 5. 3 USB 3.1 and one USB Type-C - plenty of ports and ability to expand using the Type-C The only drawback for this laptop is the weight with him taking to classes. But he doesn't mind so we don't mind either :)

On sale at $1050 it was a no brainer for what it has in and on it. There are a lot of similar laptop computers as this right now. I chose this one for how easy it was to upgrade and price. I have also owned and used a lot of Dell laptops, desktop computers and servers in the work environment before I retired. I know they make good well thought out equipment. Ok now the reasons I chose this model, again price was up there but all the ports were a big seller HDMI port, 3 USB 3.1 ports and one Thunderbolt/USB C port, SD card slot (love photography) and a Ethernet port it doesn't getting any faster for network access, you have to have it if you are a tech. Inside you have the latest 8th generation Intel core 6 CPU and the NVidia 1060 Max Q graphics card. Very stout and should last for years. One screw gets you into chassis were you have access to ram, both drives, wireless card and battery. I already upgrade the hard drive to a Samsung - 860 EVO 1TB and moved the operating system to it. I then upgraded the 128GB PCI Express drive to a Samsung - 970 EVO 250GB drive which is about 4 times faster. I use that drive to store music patches for use in Kontact 5 music software. the patches load in just a few seconds.

This is a really good laptop for the price, simple and modern design and not the classic gaming laptop look. When looking for a gaming laptop on a budget after weeks of research, the Dell G7 was definitely the best deal under 1K , with Intel Core i7 8th Gen, 16 GB Ram and NVIDIA Geforce GTX graphics gaming is a great experience and when paired with a wider range monitor you can sharply edit photos on Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating is the quality of the monitor because I am a hobbyist photographer so I need higher quality of image, but I think it works just great for other tasks and you get a great value for your money. Battery is OK, for regular web browsing i can last for up to 3 hours, but if you are running heavy programs like Photoshop, in less than an hour you are going to need to plug it to the battery charger. Pros: - Price - Specs - Discreet Design - Thermal Cooling Cons: - Monitor - Weight - Battery

Windows boot is fast because of the128gb SSD . With i7 8750h all the latest games are playable without any latency. The laptop is heavy which is understandable. The cpu fan makes huge noise at times. But for the configuration its a good buy.

So far, it works as a good entry level gaming computer for the price. For those expecting a quiet machine when gaming, look elsewhere. Or be realistic and know the limitations of laptop gaming. For the price point, there will always be pros and cons. Of course, it will throttle on battery power. It does that to save battery power. You could turn off the throttling, but then the lack of battery power life would defeat the purpose. If I am going to be gaming on this, I know that it will always be close to a power outlet. For some, that is a hard pass on this laptop. For what I paid, this laptop does what I need it to be. If you are expecting a top end gaming laptop for this price, you must be living in a fantasy world.

Overall, this laptop is a very nice laptop for gaming (I bought it for college too as I will use it in modelling/CAD). It only gets loud under load, it only gets hot under load. and it has a ton of power. An i7 8750h and 1060 Max-Q is all you need to run modern games at high settings. Pros - Perfect balance of weight and durability. I feel confident holding this laptop (6 pounds) - 15.6 inches is great for portability - It's much quieter compared to other gaming laptops - Very smooth display! (Hopefully you get lucky and acquire the AUO63ED panel like I did, which is overclock-able to ~90-100hz!) - Keyboard lighting is blue!!! - USB ports are fast, and there's a thunderbolt 3 that supports 4 lane-PCIE - Touchpad is smooth and accurate - Keyboard has a full numpad - The front of it has nice blue accented cooling pipes inside - Easy access to interior parts with just one screw! (Holy moly, other manufacturers, pay attention!) - 128gb SSD boots up Windows fast, just make sure you download all other things to the hard drive. - The i7 8750h is a monster CPU. This thing can handle so many tasks at once it's ridiculous. I was downloading 3 games on 3 different platforms and able to play Rocket League smoothly at the same time. Cons - Big bezels for the display - Display isn't very color accurate - Backlighting for keys is very low, and there's only 3 settings for them - I had to make sure the 1060 Max-Q was being used in most applications that don't specify otherwise. (The laptop tried using the integrated graphics) - There is no num-lock lighting indication (there's one for caps lock) - Arrow keys are squeezed together and small I was being very nit-picky for the cons. This laptop is amazing! If you need power for tasks, games on the side, and are on a budget of ~$1,200 then you need to buy this!

This is a nice and powerful system with outstanding graphics, however.... the fan noise when playing a game that uses the accelerated graphics card is way too noisy. You wouldn't be able to use it on, let's say, an airplane, without disturbing the people around you. I would have returned it for a quieter system but I didn't discover this until the initial 25 days had passed. It really performs well but just way too much fan noise when the NVIDIA card is engaged, otherwise, it runs very quietly. Also, it's very heavy.

Bought this for my wife as she loves to play computer games with her grown children who now live elsewhere. It is a great way for them to stay connected. She has been very pleased with this laptop. She hasn't experienced any lag or video issues. So far she hasn't played any games that this laptop can't handle. The fan can get pretty noisy when running graphics intense games and the laptop can get uncomfortably warm in her lap. The battery life is not exceptional either but what do you expect when you run resource hogging games?

Bought to work off-site with Visual Studio, SQL Server and Python machine learning open source tools. Great laptop for doing IT/computer science. Use the high speed gen 2 USB to transfer large files (100GB databases) between laptop and Alienware desktop. Moves the files fast. Has the power to manipulate large databases (about 2 million records) at about the same speed as a desktop. Boot time is only a few seconds with the 128 GB solid state drive. I use HTML to drive a 27 inch monitor and external keyboard/mouse with the USB 3 plugs. I can honestly say there is nothing I don't like about the computer. It is quiet and powerful. I would highly recommend for any IT professional or university student. The I7 with 16 GB handles everything I throw at it, including having windows open running SQL Server queries, visual studio development and 4-5 Chrome windows (one with streaming video). Rarely does the fan run flat out (when doing a query that takes 20-30 minutes to run). I love this computer. Highly recommend the I7-8th generation processor. It allows me to take the office development environment anywhere I go. Only problem is I had to get the nobel lock from Dell, it's the new tech, bought and returned 2 that didn't work.

I bought this laptop mainly for Rendering in Vray, Adobe Programs, and casual gaming. This laptop handles all pretty well! I'm sure if you're looking at this laptop though, your more concerned with Gaming... well I got it with a free copy of Black ops 4 and it handles ultra settings flawlessly. A couple of cons: -Screen could be brighter. I also find it to have a slight warm tone -Fan can be a bit loud when playing games -Large Bezels (if that bothers you)

I have seen countless reviews from other websites saying that the Dell G7, so I have to buy to see if the price for performance was too good to be true. What I did was I actually undervolted both the CPU and integrated GPU to lower temps for the system. This have my dedicated GPU never reached pass 71 degrees Celsius, and this was tested with heavens benchmark, Furmark, and GPU demanding titles like Final Fantasy XV. Solid performance with good temperatures overall. If you have some extra money to spare, I suggest investing in some extra storage, like a M.2 NVME storage from Samsung for extra speed, and 3 or 4 TB hard drive for possible video editing or lots of mods for games. Now what about the RAM? Due to Dell's annoying proprietary motherboards, you're only limited to few RAM to upgrade, the ones comes to mind is crucial RAM, since they don't have a XMP setting. The screen is a little full as well, but good enough for me. Keyboard is also decent to type on too. One more important factor is GeForce Experience, MAKE SURE you don't have battery booster turned on if you want to play or edit on battery. Overall, I think the Dell G7 is good gaming Laptop for the price, you just need to be ready to modifications to get the bang for your buck.

A Laptop with a lot of potential

As some may know jus by looking at the specs, this gaming laptop offers a lot for a pretty good price. I really like the design of the laptop despite the seriously oversized bezel. I really wish they shrunk the bezel. The monitor itself leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of brightness and color accuracy. I had to tinker with the settings to get it to look respectable so it is possible to get it to look decent, but the brightness is a bummer for me. Now to the serious problem about this laptop, THE TEMPS. Many users have reported their g7 laptops getting hot after DELL updated their bios and I can vouch for these complaints. You will feel the laptop really get hot right above the keyboard and sometimes you FPS is affected by this. You are not able to adjust the fan curve which doesn't help the situation either. The good thing about this problem is that it does seem fixable. As some owners have noted, the system didn't have this problem in the old bios so there is hope that this problem can be fixed by DELL simply updating the bios properly, but I cannot recommend this laptop to anyone with the current heating problems it is experiencing. Save your money and buy a little bit more of an expensive laptop that has good cooling.

      Hello Johnny,

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry that this computer's monitor is not exactly meeting your expectations. With regards to the temperature of your computer, here are some tips to keep your computer operating at a cooler temperature:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uJ8AdG.

We hope these tips will help your computer operate cooler for you.

I bought this to start up my new business. It has been so useful with lots of storage and input slots. It doesn't have touch screen but I did not expect that on this laptop. It is quick and easy to use. It sits in my workstation but I have used it at meetings as well. Not too heavy but the capability does need some heft. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

I have no complaints about this computer. The SSD is very fast, and the HDD is bearable. The construction is solid, and the keyboard is comfortable to use. I have no regrets about buying this laptop. I have yet to find a game that this computer struggles to run well. It does get a tad bit hot right above the heat syncs, but this is better than the CPU or GPU being too hot. This product is amazing.

Overall good, fast, and optional "so far". Doing my solid work job with no issue. 1st I wasn't like the keyboard blue light, but it's not bad in dark. However, battery will die in 4 hr. So heavy, (do not buy to your wife), and finally, system sometime go crazy which is frozed up 1 time in the 1st month. I hope this device stay fast and reliable forever otherwise will not worth the money.

The computer bag that accompanies it was sleaky and fashionably designed to make one great. The speed was amazing. Got this for a very good price when I purchased it. I needed a new PC asap for new work and school needs, and wanted something powerful enough to get my feet wet with PC gaming. After some initial annoyances due in part to reading negative reviews of the (then) current BIOS, it currently runs extremely well after installing the most recent BIOS version (I highly recommend doing this asap should you own one). Overall...it's heavy and bulky and far from ultra portable. I knew that going in so I can't knock it for that, but it's worth mentioning. The sound is great, the display is blah (knew that going in), but since installing new BIOS it's everything I expected it to be as far as performance. Also worth noting: for some reason it wants to use a driver for a Killer Wireless Adapter, which mine does not have (Killer LAN only on mine). Apparently some models use this, mine does not. Anyway, good product for what it is. Knowing what I know now, I'd spend the money on building a desktop.
