I bought this for school and I was hesitant because of the price ,but wanted a good quality laptop. Love the touch screen on this and never realized until months later that it folds into a tablet. That’s a bonus. Fast, sleek, and a good battery life. I have a iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard as well and sometimes a laptop is what you need to get assignments done with the use of Microsoft office which is a burden on an iPad. Not that much heavier than the iPad with Magic Keyboard if not the same. Only thing that I had an issue with and it may just have been something I’ve done but I had to factory reset my laptop after I let the battery die one night. I didn’t lose anything because it was still new and I didn’t save nothing on there yet. It’s been working fine since then with no complaints.

Purchased at a discount and very happy with the laptop. The touch screen and resolution, speed and touchpad all work great! I use it for school and light gaming and Java programming. I upgraded the Ram to 16gb which is plenty for what I use it for. I run games like Witcher enhanced edition and it runs fine with some screen tearing at 1080p settings. Sonic all stars run smooth at 1080p as well as games like tron 2.0. I use my ps5 for 4K gaming. Plus there may be more setting a I can mess with that I don’t know about for these games. Love the light up keyboard and screen gets very bright. Very lite weight and 14” screen is a good size. Camera is 720p and looks good for my needs. Only thing is I wish it came w a 500gb Ssd. The AMD 5500u is a beast tho. At full price I think they could at least provide a 500gb Ssd. I will be upgrading mine down the road.

I really like this laptop, the only problem is after the warranty expired exactly 13 months the right side hinge seized up causing it to be rip away from the glass screen. To this day, the right hinge is immovable, therefore, I'm unable to closed my laptop without causing more damages. I did read a previous review stating the same issue.

Bought it for my wife, she’s coming from a sony vaio 15.6. This is our first AMD (ryzen 5 5600)laptop, was afraid of getting really hot but it works cool and fast, i think its faster than my asus TUF I5 10th gen. So far she is in love with that, speakers sound is clear and loud, screen quality is amazing, its light weight, keyboard touch is good and lit up, wifi 6 is fast, battery is long last. It would get 5 stars if i would not have to deal with windows bit locker error messages every other day

The laptop works well, it is easy to manage and the storage is good. It has a backlit keyboard and is compatible for a pen. I bought mine in blue but it simply looks black/grey. It’s very pretty. Fans make noice if you block them but if you have it in a flat surface they don’t make any noice (unless it’s a big download). Overall great purchase.

Very satisfied with this laptop. I decided to change from the brand I had bought for several years. My workplace has everything Dell, so I thought I'd give this a try. It's been great. Setup was a breeze. It feels top quality, and I highly recommend this.

    Hinge Defects on Inspiron Models

Bought the product a little over a year ago. I use it daily but for administrative work so nothing heavy. Both of the hinges on my computer seized and broke away from the screen. The first hinge seized a month or two ago and the second just recently, leaving my laptop screen hanging on by a wire. I’ve read that this is a common issue with Inspiron models but I wish I knew this at the time of purchase. Invest in a different model.

As someone who has used a LOT of laptops over the past 10 years, I have experienced a lot of ups-and-downs in this market. I have to say that overall, this Dell Inspiron 14 7415 laptop is fantastic choice for a wide range of users. This is a 14 inch a convertible laptop with the following features: - AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Processor - 256 SSD storage (could be better) - 8 GB of RAM (upgradeable) - Integrated AMD graphics (pretty good for integrated) - Touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 display (extra points for not being less than 1080 in 2021!) - USB 3.1 type A ports (x2) - USB C 4.0 port (x1 , also used for charging) - HDMI port (x1) - Headset/microphone combination port - Micro SD port Additionally, it has... - Fingerprint reader for easy sign-in - Backlit keyboard with 2 stages of brightness (and very well done) - Really decent trackpad for a laptop this size Quickly, for the techy folks who want to know... - Yes, them memory is upgradeable. Per Dell, up to 16GB - The SSD is the harder-to-find, shorter M.2 style (see photo for clarification) USABILITY Even at 14 inches, the screen is bright and crisp. The bezels are minimal, and because this is a convertible notebook, meaning you can bend the screen all the way around to put it in tablet-style, it means you can bend it back farther than you can with some laptops, making it very usable if you are looking at it while standing up. The keys are a nice size and spaced well. The arrow keys are scrunched together in the corner, so up and down are rather small and can be difficult to place without looking at where your fingers are located. This laptop also offers a fingerprint reader, which is embedded in the power button. The power button is in the top right corner of the keyboard, meaning the Delete key is one key to the left of where you might be used to finding it on other laptops. It may be a good idea to disable actions associated with pressing the power button if you are a frequent user of the Delete key. The backlighting in this keyboard is among the best I have seen. There are 2 levels of brightness, along with turning it off completely. At full brightness, there is light present around the edges of the screen, but it is very subtle and not distracting, as I have found with other backlit keyboards. The keys are also opaque enough that the light shining through to illuminate the character on the key makes that character crisp and clear, and easier to identify symbols. I would compare the lighting of these keys to a Kindle Paperwhite, where they almost appear as white painted onto the key, but equally clear in the dark as in a fully lit room. The trackpad is also superior to many others I have used. It is responsive and offers a good array of customizations. While this may seem commonplace, I have found recently that it is not. A laptop given to me to use at work required a special software download to even be able to reverse the scrolling direction. On this Dell Inspiron, the settings adjustments are directly in the Windows 10 settings, making them easy to access. The touchscreen is quite responsive as well. I am not a huge user of touchscreen laptops as I don't like fingerprints on my display, and I also may want to point at something on my screen without causing an action by the computer, but when using this in a tablet mode, it works well. PERFORMANCE As mentioned above, the memory is upgradable. Depending on the user for this computer, this may or may not be a concern. The 8 GB of memory is sufficient to perform basic work on the computer - internet browsing, checking email, opening a word processor or spreadsheet, and video conferencing. However, since 8 GB is today's bare minimum, for those who want to do more, the memory can be upgraded. As a regular user of Adobe Photoshop, a computer's performance with this software is important to me. Photoshop installed and opened with ease on this computer. However, it did start slowing down a bit once I started modifying photos, especially with artistic effects and multiple layers. However, the fact that I can do this work at all on the laptop makes it usable for me out of the box. I might need my main workstation for large projects, but quick edits are doable, and a bump in the memory will help even more. This laptop includes integrated graphics. You probably won't be able to hard-core gaming on it. However, light gaming should be possible, especially with a RAM upgrade. This laptop has 256 GB SSD, so hard drive performance is not an issue. However, I wish Dell would have at least added 512 GB into it. While we live in a world of cloud storage, software alone takes up a lot of space and can quickly deplete storage you might need for local files. This is also upgradable, but it uses the shorter version of M.2 SSD modules, so it is likely to cost a bit more to upgrade it since these modules are less common. Battery life has been impressive as well. After a full charge, I spent about 2 hours installing software, browsing the internet, and checking email, and the battery was still at 75%. When testing Photoshop's performance, the fans definitely kicked in and it was clear they were running hard, so that dropped the battery slightly more, but this is an intense-use application and can be expected. By the way, even when running hard, the fans were very quiet. I was in a quiet room by myself, but if I were using this in a coffee shop or other location where there is background noise, I doubt I would have heard them at all. OTHER FEATURES AND THOUGHTS The Dell Inspiron 14 7415 has a USB C port, but it also uses this for charging. To be able to use both data transfer and power, you will need some kind of hub or dongle that has passthrough, meaning the hub/dongle needs to have a USB C port that you can plug the power cable into to pass power to the battery, along with another USB C port for data transfer. It also has 2 USB 3.1 ports and a standard-size HDMI port, which is nice if you wish to connect it to a larger external monitor when you are working from a desk. As far as laptops of this size are concerned, this laptop is slightly heavier than some models I have seen in this size. However, in most cases, it probably won't be that noticeable. The extra weight comes from the some of the nice aluminum casing, as it is not all plastic like some lower-end laptops. It is very thin and will fit comfortably even in smaller bags. Another included feature that I love on newer laptops is the switch at the top of the display that closes the shutter on the video camera, which this Dell Inspiron includes. This is a physical switch that you can slide that actually covers the video camera. I usually put a piece of post-it paper over the video camera since I am bothered by the constant visibility when I am not using it, so this is much appreciated. It is also detectable by Windows and related software. When I am using video conferencing software, it can recognize when I open and close this shutter. Like most laptop keyboards, the function keys (F1-F12) have secondary (nowadays primary) alternate functions assigned to them. This laptop has the usual - volume up, down, and mute, screen brightness up and down, keyboard backlight adjustments, etc. However, this Dell laptop gives generous spacing to the shift and enter keys, and uses full-size left and right arrow keys. As a result, the print-screen, home, end, and insert keys share F10, F11, and F12. Insert and delete follow those going to the right, and finally the power button. This takes away functions that might otherwise be used for these keys. For example, F4 is the Play/Pause key, but there are no Skip Forward and Skip Back keys. And yet, F9 doesn't have any special feature assigned to it. I wouldn't mind this as much if this key could be customized, but none of these keys can be customized. It isn't a huge deal, but it would have been a nice add-in to allow customization of this one key. Overall, this laptop is a great choice whether the user requires a lot or very little from it. It's thin and lightweight, but comfortably large enough to get a lot of work done. The keyboard and trackpad are a joy to use, and the screen is crisp and bright, with a resolution that won't require a lot of left-right scrolling on webpages and documents (I HATE that on 768 resolution laptops -that should be banned on any new computer today!).

I'm so disappointed, of course a few months after thr warranty expires the screen breaks at one of the hinges despite hardly flipping it into tablet mode or removing it from my home. Dell wants close to $300 to repair it when its clearly a manufacturing issue. Ive always had Dell laptops and theyve always been close to indestructible dinosaurs that have lasted close to a decade. On top of that, the sound sucks.

I'm very disappointed in this laptop. Do not buy this laptop or any other product with a similar hinge system - do you research. There's even a class action suit against Dell because they keep using this hinge system knowing full well so many customers have experienced this same problem. I bought it in June 2022 and received assistance in the store reviewing products that would fit my needs. I was considering one of the cheaper laptops, but I was told they would not last very long. This one was right in my budget and had some fantastic features. Initially, I loved it. After about a year, the hinges made a clicking noise which I did not realize was an actual issue. In August, the bottom frame piece popped out, and not long after, the attachment keeping the hinge and screen together popped off. I carefully popped the pieces all back together and used tape to secure it best as possible. The problem I didn't realize is that the hinge was no longer hinging - it became stiff, so opening the laptop put unnecessary pressure on the screen. This morning, I went to open the laptop, everything popped off, and the corner of my screen is shattered.

I don't know if I got a bad computer because I bought this on a labor day sale, but this thing keeps crashing multiple times a day when I'm just watching Hulu. I think the battery somehow adjusted to get better with time now. Everything else is cool like speed, and display, and the finger print sensor, with the exception that I can't get sims 3, the one game I play to open at all on here :(. Hoping I can exchange for a replacement or get one with a different processor

      Melinda,

We're sorry to hear about the multiple crashes that you've experienced with your new computer. If you'd like to troubleshoot these crashes we'd recommend the following:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page -

This computer has performed extremely well since I bought it in 2021. Speed, storage, and connectivity are all 10 out of 10. It is small, compact, and lightweight so it is easy to carry between home and school. I don't use it much, but the full screen option is really nice if you're working on graphic projects or to use to watch streaming in full screen. I also love the fact that it is a touch screen. Signing documents on PDF is a breeze, and it's really nice to have that added feature. I am overall extremely happy with this purchase, this was such an upgrade from my old Dell computer that crapped out on me after a couple years. Highly recommend this computer for students and everyday use alike.
