This laptop performs very well while it works. However, it has had a few unexpected Blue Screen Of Death errors which means hardware failures. We have also had to hard reboot it several times as it has froze. The last thing that happened to it was that after it was used the previous day as usual (nothing but watching YouTube videos and working on documents) the next day my wife powered it on and it started updating the firmware automatically, and it got stuck at 0% indefinitely. After waiting a long time I tried to hard reboot it and it doesn’t respond to holding the power button down for as long as you want. The only recommendation that I found online was to wait until the battery drains to then connect it to the Power adapter and power it on again. It is ridiculous that there is no other way to shutdown the PC, and on top of that, batteries are no longer accessible unless you open the laptop which that would void the warranty. TBH I expected much more from this laptop with all these characteristics. It is very fast and the quality of the display is awesome, but it shouldn’t behave all these issues.

I'm a 78 year old Veteran and worked in printed circuit board design/layout (self taught ) for 33 years. I'm Still struggling a bit moving up from Windows 7. I have programs I created with VB6 and can't use until I can install VB6 and I'll get there when I can clear an issue with my Email. I'm really impressed with this new machine. The graphics are incredible and one of the reasons for going to 17". I have several thousand scanned photos of family photos and scans of documents going back as far as 1940's. The
Mini USB slot has a Mini 256G chip with everything safely copied from my old machine and USB sticks. The screen resolution is fantastic and my favorite music sounds great. I am more than
satisfied with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend
a new Dell to my friends. My future wife 1957 & me 1946

My fave purchase. I had another brand laptop which I used for remote work. Very unreliable. Made me late for work (yes still have to Kronos in) a few times and lowered my productivity. This was a spontaneous purchase - gently used - but not abused. The specs were very user friendly. I would get the same thing another time with a few upgrades. Lighted keyboard and better battery life. It runs best when plugged in to a power source.

I just bought this Dell - Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 - 17" QHD+ Touch Laptop - 11th Gen Intel Core i7 -NVIDIA - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD+32GB Optane - Silver computer recently. So far I love it! It’s pretty fast and has a lot of cool features that I haven’t even learned how to use yet. It’s sleek (thin) & I love that it has a touch screen! I would recommend this purchase.

This computer is not as strong as my previous one. However, it is faster and lighter. If it is half as heavy duty as my previous one that last over five years before an update, I am going to be okay.

Alright, let me just say that this thing is BIG! In bold guys. Now I can’t complain, but it sometimes gets hard to flip this thing because it’s just massive. I really like the upgrade from my last computers large bezels to this one, I looked back to my HP and I felt narrowed in to the screen and just felt uncomfortable. Battery is fine for one day of use for school, but I did run into issues with it dying without me even using it (probably my fault by leaving it on somehow). Backlight is negligible until your in the dark, which is probably what it’s for :). Trackpad is ginormous and you’ll never run out of space to move the cursor. With all that said I would like to mention that in my research their are maybe 1 or 2 other 2in1 laptops out their that are a good company, have a 17 inch screen, and have a better graphics card that Intels Iris XE. Those where just the specs I needed for some programs I needed to run for school while maintaining the 2in1 feature! This laptop is fantastic, it has everything you need! Just buy it already!
Also, picture is of an older chrome book, I never took it next to my HP.

Darn 7706, second one, no good.

I went through my first 7706 in 20 days. That's right, 20 days. It literally went blue screened and said I didn't have a drive with an OS on it. Returned it to Best Buy, thank God Im an elite member and had the longer return period. I did contact Dell, went through the basic trouble shooting then was told that I only had the basic coverage on the laptop and to repair it would cost ME. I tried to reason with the dell associate and remind him I had only had the laptop for less then 3 weeks. I was told again that my computer required advanced trouble shooting and it would cost me. I told him, no it won't, I'll just return it to Best Buy. SO on to the second 7706, this one is showing a NEW message:
"AN OPERATING SYSTEM EXCEPTION WAS CAUSED BY SYSTEM MEMORY"
Ive done some research and came up with the possibility of a BIOS problem. Something about how the newest update is a problem, and to revert to an earlier BIOS. I have 1.4.1 u reverted back to 1.3. so far so good, I just completed that today though. So we'll see. I would like to recommend this laptop, it's quick and I love the large 17.3" screen. I do wish it had a better graphics card in it and a better screen. I'm thinking if I would do it all over again I'd get a workstation laptop. Something that had the better graphics card, better screen to support my graphic design and more RAM. I want a Dell workstation after all this fuss. Maybe Dell would discount a fantastic workstation even more, and match the cost of the 7706 and just so a straight swap. I would get a Dell tattoo for that also.... Lol. I like dell, this 7706 series I'm not happy with though.

Lina,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about the overheating that you're experiencing. Here are some recommendations for your computer to operate at a cooler temperature:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue. 2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system. Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage. 3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%. 4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. 5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. 6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

This laptop is ok, but for the price I paid, it is disappointing.
1. The backlit keyboard makes it hard to see the letters, unless I'm in a dark room.
2. The speakers are not very loud, so that when I have it on level 100 and in a meeting, it isn't loud enough to be heard by the other 4 people in the room.
3. I plug in my earbuds, and after about 5 uses, the laptop no longer detects earbuds are plugged in, and it will continue to play out loud. I paid almost $1500 for this laptop, I should not have to deal with these issues.

Dear StaseeGee,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize for the issues with audio, keyboard, and earbuds you are experiencing with your Dell Inspiron 7706 2-in-1 computer. This is certainly not the experience that we like to hear from our customers. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to help improve our current and future products.
To help to see keyboard letters better, we suggest disabling the backlit keyboard when you are in lit areas. Below I have provided the steps to disable the backlighting and the full article link.
Backlit keyboard options in BIOS 1. Click the + sign next to System Configuration. 2. Click Keyboard Illumination. 3.* Disabled or Off - The keyboard illumination is off. *Dim - The keyboard illumination is at half brightness. *Bright - The keyboard illumination is at full brightness. 4. Click Apply, and then Exit.
Below I have provided the steps to run the Microsoft Sound Troubleshooter. I have also included the full article link that has more options if they are needed. We also suggest making sure the audio drivers are up to date on your PC. I have given you a link to the Drivers and Downloads page for your computer below so you can check for and do any applicable updates.
How to run the Windows Sound Troubleshooter in Microsoft Windows 10 1. Click Start, and then select Settings (gear icon). 2. Click Update & Security and select Troubleshoot. 3. Click Playing Audio and then click Run the troubleshooter. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Frustrated with New Inspiron's Mic
|

I was so excited to replace my old Inspiron after about 5 years with the newer model. I had loved my old laptop. But after my Jan 29, 2022 purchase, only a few weeks later I am frustrated. The mic does not work. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Geek Squad support (I have a total care membership) and still it is not resolved. I have an appointment to bring it in but that likely means having to leave my work laptop for a few days.
The other frustration is that it is hard to read the keys on the new model. My hold model had dark keys with light font. The new model has silver keys with a light font and it makes it challenging to see the the keys. See photos of both attached.
I hope my mic issue is just a fluke. The Geek Squad is usually great at fixing issues so I am hopeful this will get resolved. But I must say we are not off to a great start:(
