Customers appreciate the Inspiron Desktop's strong performance and ease of use, frequently citing its user-friendly setup and ample memory and storage. The affordable price point is also a major plus for many buyers. While some users wish for more USB ports or a solid-state drive, the overall experience is largely positive.

    Excellent desktop

I recently purchased this desktop to replace an Asus M32AD desktop that was having serious hardware problems. The Asus was 5 years old. The new computer has an i5 8th generation processor with 12MB RAM. My previous computer had an i7 7th generation processor with 12 MB RAM. I purchased a computer with an i5 8400 desktop because it is significantly less expensive then the i7 8th generation desktops. I had hoped that the upgraded i5 processor would be adequate for my needs. What I'm finding is that it's more than adequate. It is a significant improvement in processing speed over my previous i7 7th generation desktop. Very snappy response. Programs open very quickly. I do some photo editing with Photoshop CC. The i5 8400 is certainly up to the task. The only thing I have seen it struggle with is when rendering shake reduction filter, which takes some time to complete. Generally speaking, I'm very happy with the Dell Inspiron 3620-i5 desktop, and would highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't need a gaming machine or to edit videos.

just what to expect from Dell

Easy setup, decent performance, easy access to driver updates. Unfortunately Dell must have warehouses full of 802.11agn wireless cards that they need to get rid of - can't think of any other reason to include this old slow tech with an 8th gen CPU. Setup a similar HP Pavilion 590-p0050 Desktop last week that was $50 less and included 802.11ac and 16GB of Intel Optane memory to act as a hard disk cache - made the 1TB HDD perform more like an SSD. And what's up with all these desktops not offering reasonably priced SSD options anyhow? (Oh yeah, warehouses full of HDDs!)

Enough power for a general user, very simple and straightforward to set up and use. Sufficient features. Would be better with the solid-state drive however, the one terabyte drive does well.

I have always like Dell Computer products and I try to be a loyal shopper so when it came time to buy a new computer this one had a great price and all the guts inside I needed. The geek squad tried to save my old desktop, but it was 13 years old and slower than anything on the market. The geek squad had repaired it several times but the Hard drive finally failed. I guess I got my moneys worth out of it. I was able to save all my data to an external harddrive so was able to reload it all on the new Dell InSpiron desktop. I now own 4 Dell computers for myswelf and my business so everything is up and fast. Love BestBuy and the Geek Squad!

Nice machine but nagging reboot problem

Given the i5 processor, 12 gb memory, and 1 tb drive this is a well equipped machine. I needed one immediately due to a HD crash on my regular laptop. Unfortunately, and especially when processing photos with Adobe Photoshop Elements the machine will suddenly lock up and then present the Blue Screen of Death. It reports something related to a DPC Watchdog Violation and then reboots. I've had this happen multiple times in an hour. My research indicates that there are many people having this problem and it has been going on for several years with no real solution. I did manage to find a video driver for the integrated video card that seemed to help the problem. Alas, it is still there. Troubleshooting has been hampered by Microsoft and Dell procedures that tell you how to step through a solution but I find that no such commands or instructions exist in my Windows 10 OS. I would not recommend this to a friend at this point, and if it does not get better I may have to take the machine back.

      Hi Carmine,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the issues that your computer has been having. We'd recommend the following steps to help diagnose the Blue Screen Errors:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - https://dell.to/2mpf8IW.

I needed to make a change when my old desktop's graphics card finally failed. My computer Guru said to go to Best Buy and purchase a Dell. Glad I listened to him. Set up was simple, not as easy as dealing with Best Buy, but a delight. Fast, powerful and ready for work.

It's smaller than the standard tower. It's not as deep. So that makes it easy to fit in whatever space you want to put it. In my case I had to put it under the counter at a store. It fit, and all the wires in the back had plenty of room since the depth does not take up much space. Performance wise, it's excellent with the 12GB RAM standard, and the Core i5 8th gen processor!

Quick - responsive - does what it needs to do. I purchased this machine as a simple home PC. I'm not a heavy duty gamer or an author. But it handles by game(s) and my word documents with ease. The negatives are (1) a limited number of USB ports (4 in the back and two up front), I would have liked at least two more in the back; and (2) the lack of expansion ports inside. There is only one. I have a video card that I would like to install, there is a port for it, but no power plug. A little disappointing and a trip to the Geek Squad to resolve.

I purchased this computer for my parents. When I opened the case, I saw decent guts in this Dell, including a full size power supply and M.2 slot. I promptly bought a Samsung 970 and it installed Windows 10 in less than 7 minutes (I wanted a clean copy of Windows). I would definitely recommend this desktop. It doesn't have a dedicated video card, so no games or media creation, but for everything else, it can scream.

I've been using this computer for almost 2 months now and, overall, aside from photos being a bit slow to populate, it is pretty fast. Also, the disc drive is extremely flimsy and I wish there were a couple more USB ports. I have had no other issues, thus far. It starts right up and runs quietly.

I've been a long time Dell believer. I had the opportunity to buy used IMac from a friend really cheap. I tried for a whole year to get used to it, and finally got so frustrated I went to Best Buy and bought a new Dell with Windows 10. I've had to relearn Windows, but it's more familiar to me than the iMac after a year. I expect my new Dell to last as long as my others have. I've never had one crash, I've donated my old ones when I want to get a new one.

Amazingly half the size of my previous 2008 Dell. Quiet and powerful, it should be a good replacement for my old machine that was fried in an electrical storm. Having a tough time moving old files from my back up drive but that’s my issue not the PC’s. Good value for the money.
