I've had this monitor for about 2 years now. It is absolutely fantastic. The display is beautiful and I run games at 120FPS regularly with it. I've had zero issues with it and highly recommend it.

I finally made the move from a desktop to a laptop, but I didn't want to give up the large screen. The Dell U2720QM fit the bill. It's a beautiful monitor with a thin bezel, minimal branding and great display. The only connection you need is to your laptop is the USB-C cable. All your peripherals can be plugged into the multiple ports in the back of the monitor avoiding the need for a hub. The result is a clean, easy to use workstation (see photo).

USBC Dock Display: 1 Ring (Cable) To Rule Them All

    |

Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Summary: This is the best possible work from home monitor available if your laptop has a DisplayPort capable USC port or a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port (all Apple Laptops with USBC/Thunderbolt Ports). Purchased in July 2021 from Best Buy, I've now owned this monitor for 4 months. I work in Tech (Silicon Mountain, Colorado) and while my company's HQ campus is 20 min away, COVID has us working from home indefinitely. The U2720QM uses an In-Plane-Switching panel. This means you get accurate colors off-angle. If a monitor you're considering is NOT an IPS panel then you should make sure it's curved. Colors wash out non centered viewing angles for VA type panels and the curvature corrects the amount of color wash-out. VA Panels enjoy deeper blacks and higher display brightness. I owned a Samsung curved display and it ran so hot that the display film burned away at the edges and i had to return it. The only other reason you should buy a curved monitor is if you personally just like it (there's no benefit ergonomically and they take up a crazy amount of desk space due to their thick depth of size). Professionals always use IPS displays. Apple uses IPS in all of their non-OLED products. Why Dell? -Don't just buy a "Dell" Monitor. Buy a "Dell Premier Color" Monitor like this one is. Dell Premier Color monitors have the absolute best quality control, 2nd to NONE. The odds of you getting a dead pixel, or color inaccuracies out of the box are cut in half compared with other manufactures. Dell color calibrates your "Standard" mode in factory to sRGB color space. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY - Dell's premier color monitors come with a pixel guarantee. If you get a dud, Dell will quick ship you a replacement in the first 120 days with no hassle. I did this with my U2713HM in 2011 and it was impressive customer service. Paired with my brand new HP Z Book Firefly 14inch G8 - 1 cable provides power (90w), display (4k @60Hz 24bit with HDR off and 30bit with HDR on) , and USB extension (enables monitor USB ports). I also have the MacBook Pro M1 as my personal computer. The M1 does even better with this display - outputting 4k 60Hz 30bit with or without HDR. Also works with my M1 iPad Pro but only mirrors at the awkward iPad aspect ratio due to Apple's iPad OS feature set (or lack there of). Charging and USB ports work perfect with iPad M1 and i expect future iPad OS updates to support "Display Extension" in addition to mirroring. Quirks: 1. Windows only allows 8bit OS color via USB-C unless HDR is turned on. This experience is specific to Intel graphics with Thunderbolt 3 and i expect AMD to support 8 bit *with dithering, or 10bit. If you have a discrete nVidia graphics card that has its own USB C port, i expect it to support 8bit *with dithering or 10bit color. I'm only speaking about using USBC and not DisplayPort 1.4 connection on monitor. 2. The Display stand is sticky. All of my other dell monitors have had butter-like smoothness when adjusting height or rotation. This monitor is sticky and hard to adjust. It's awful, really. Reasons NOT to buy: 1. You're a content creator with a real content creator's budget and you want to edit HDR content. -Just buy the Apple XDR Display (or the smallest LG OLED TV) - the Dell 20QM might advertise HDR as a feature but with 400nits of brightness, it's the worst possible implementation of HDR. 10bit Color only supported with HDR turned on in Windows. Wait for microLED displays to take root at Dell or Buy the Apple XDR. Additionally, there are better and more accurate sRGB monitors out there. 2. You only have a desktop -Save money and get a non-USBC docking version of this monitor for like $350 or buy a display with other more useful desktop features like higher refresh rates, VRR, and HDMI 2.1 3. You have poor eye-sight. -If you struggle to read text in 4k @ 125% Scaling in Windows, i cannot recommend this monitor. As soon as you scale to 150% or higher, you're just using a 1440p display with a bit better pixel density. Save money and buy a 1440p (2k) monitor. 4. You have a thunderbolt dock already. -A CalDigit TS3+ Thunderbolt 3 dock is a fine option. The thunderbolt 3 passthrough will support DisplayPort 1.4 even though the physical display port option on this dock is only 1.2 5. You don't have a USBC with DisplayPort Logo port or Thunderbolt 3/4 Port on your laptop. -Dont waste your money. Wait for the microLED version of this display to come out and then upgrade your laptop and your monitor.

In my opinion, this has to be one of the best computer monitors I've ever used. The simplistic design is superb but the easy of use is even more user-friendly. I'd highly recommend this Dell monitor.

It took me a while to figure it out but the ritual I have to go through every morning is to start up my MacBook, make sure the display preference is set to “Default for Display” then close the laptop, turn on the monitor, connect my MacBook, then press any key on my Bluetooth keyboard to make it connect. If I don’t do it exactly this way the monitor image is zoomed in and laggy with weird flickering horizontal lines when I mouse over the right side of the screen (see attached). I also can’t launch Photoshop unless the monitor is connected and working properly, otherwise photoshop images fill with bright green when zoomed in. The fit and finish is not amazing, the frame near the under screen buttons is not really tight and flush (see attached) but the image is good and with some fiddling with the onscreen menus you can get it pretty sharp and bright. Aside from it’s odd quirks, it’s a good monitor, and the extra real estate makes doing my work much easier than on the cramped laptop screen.

Purchased screen for work at home to connect with my MacBook Pro 13 inch. I am able to view 2 documents on Dell monitor and 3rd document on the MacBook. Dell monitor displays a very crisp screen. When not in use close sleep mode and turn monitor off so it does burn an image. So far , it was a good decision so far.

It’s not glass-y. Kinda matte. No grits. Very smooth. I love it. I work in design, not highly visual but still need to use Adobe product everyday. This monitor is more than enough for my line of work. I did make sure I used the same color profile on this monitor as my MacBook’s display.“Color LCD”? I believe. Otherwise the default color looks a bit off, if you were after the Retina look.

I wanted a multipurpose monitor that would handle 4k video as well as sharp imaging for doing spreadsheets and documents. I had been using an older Dell Ultrasharp so I thought I would upgrade to the newer version. The new Ultrasharps have a very thin bezel which is nice when you are using multiple monitors. The images quality at 4k is very sharp. The colors are rich and the displayed images have great contrast levels. I watched several 4k videos and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the image and its intensity. The white screen used when working on documents doesnt show any bleeding on the edges or greying variations across the monitor. The entire display seems to be fairly uniform in its whiteness which is great. This monitor comes with several usb ports, a full size display port and a hdmi port and Dell does supply an hdmi and a usb cable. I love the adjustability of the monitor due to its stand. You can rotate the monitor or move it up or down to perfectly align with your work space. The biggest downside to this monitor is the buttons that are mounted under the front right hand of the display. You need to press the buttons to access the menus and to select a different source. These buttons are extremely difficult to press at times, I found using my finger nail vs my finger tip helps. If you are planning on using this monitor with multiple computers be prepared to deal with some frustration with the buttons.

Excellent monitor with MacBooks! I purchased a Samsung 28inch 4k and wasn’t happy with color from the moment I plugged it in. Got this Dell Ultrasharp and it was on point from the getgo. USB C hub makes it even more convenient with one cable to charge/display, and the USB port on the monitor is perfect for a webcam.

Great monitor so far, clear and sharp. Tip that might help some: in the monitor settings, change the Response Time from Fast to Normal. This will prevent ghosting of text when you are scrolling on a webpage.

Great monitor that I use for work and also gaming as well. At the time of my purchase I bought two to get a dual screen setup for my MacBook Air M1 when I’m not on my windows work laptop. Resolution is terrible when you use a display port to connect the MBA. So I returned the second monitor. But now I no longer have a MBA and have a windows desktop so I most likely will buy a second monitor during Black Friday this year. If you’re on the fence about this purchase, you won’t regret it. I’ve had no issues with it at all.

Excellent Monitor. Easy to maneuver and adjust, beautiful colors and resolution. My understanding is that this is the exact same as the U2720Q, but this QM just comes without the display port cable, for a much cheaper price. Menu is a little wonky, but you get used to it quickly.

I got this monitor along with a business laptop for a job and had to return it when I moved on. Found that I missed it so much I bought my own. Great features - I especially appreciate the easily accessible powered USB ports on the side and beautiful display. Simple to set up and easy to switch between portrait and landscape.

For work reasons, I had to switch from a iMac 27" to a regular PC laptop. I purchase this monitor to "replace" the beautiful iMac 5K display. Obviously, the pixel density is not as high and you don't have the same detail sharpness. I would say this becomes an issue if you do a lot of graphic design, otherwise the resolution is good enough for all the other type of application. The design of the monitor is good in general, the base make it very stable. I wish there was a webcam included in it. The monitor's controls are hard to navigate through. The small buttons at the right corner of the screen are hard to push at times. I'm having a hard time to color calibrate the screen, this may be due to my level of inexperience. i would recommend the product to a friend, although I still miss the 5k resolution.

I have had this monitor for close to three weeks now. I have owned a couple of ultra sharp monitors from Dell in the past and they were all great. This one is no exception. Spec wise it is a pretty good IPS monitor. It is 4K, 1300:1 contrast ratio and 350 cd/m2. That just pretty much means it is bright, you get a bitter better black level performance than your typical IPS monitor and text will look nice and sharp. The reflection coating does a decent job. The stand is small but doesn't feel flimsy. The screen is quite adjustable as you can see in the picture. I have it connected to a M1 Mac mini via USB-C and it has been working well. Just to note, I believe connecting the monitor via USB-C drops the data rate of the USB ports to 2.0 speeds. The buttons can be a bit finicky to press but not terrible. My panel is thankfully pretty good with backlight bleed not being an issue. Before this Dell I tried out a LG 4K IPS monitor which was on sale for around $400. It wasn't as bright, the stand was not height adjustable (my fault for not realizing this) and the contrast ratio was noticeably a bit lower. Overall, while a bit more on the pricier side I'd say this is a great monitor and Dell does have a nice 3 year warranty on their Ultra Sharp monitors as well.

Amazing display. The only issue is the seam on the bottom right of the monitor has some glue that comes apart a little bit. If you have OCD, it will drive you up the wall, but after time, you will just be content with the fantastic display.

I bought the Dell monitor on the recommendation of Wirecutter. I am on my second model after the first had a recurring green line. BestBuy was ultra-responsive and I had my replacement monitor within a few days. I love the monitor, and it provides beautiful color and performance. I am a writer with dwindling eyesight, so I needed a monitor that provided a lot of surface area to work with. I also wanted a monitor that I could use for casual movie watching or YouTube viewing. It works seamlessly with my MacBook Pro, and it looks fantastic on my desk. I wish the monitor had built-in speakers, but I haven’t had any complaints with using the speakers on my tethered MacBook. Overall, an excellent product made better by BestBuy’s customer service.
