I love really good coffee, but as of late I really hadn't been drinking it as often as I'd have liked. That was in large part to just how expensive drinks from coffee shops have gotten as of late. See, as much as I've tried in the past to brew my own perfect cup at home, I've either fallen short or been unable to consistently do so. Then I'd slink back to my local barista. My taste buds were happy. My wallet....not so much. I'd often heard of these De'Longhi machines, but thought they might be too difficult to operate and/or maintain. Recently though, I paid a little closer attention to their features and what De'Longhi has been trying to achieve and I realized that their machines are right up my alley! They brew incredibly delicious coffee time and time again AND maintenance is a breeze! Just follow the messages that come up on the built-in touchscreen display! It's so simple and elegant. The machine cleans its brew and froth nozzles essentially on its own. It grinds and tamps the perfect amount of coffee from the whole bean hopper on its own. It'll even brew you a coffee from pre-ground beans if you need or want to use them. It does pretty much everything while sit back and sip. Yes, there's a somewhat significant upfront cost which might not readily seem to be as economical as a garden variety Mr. Coffee or even a pod brewer. But when you really think about it, you'll save a bundle down the line. See, I already have a drip pot and several different pod brewers. I barely use the drip pot and the pod brewers can be hit or miss (mostly miss though). I especially can't stand when pods are not manufactured correctly and mess up my pod machines. It's a huge hassle and I end up buying my coffee from a shop anyway. So really, with the Magnifica Plus. I skip most of the trips I would normally make to the coffee shop and still get that same barista quality and flavor at a steep discount (and in my pajamas too!!). According to my calculations, this machine will have paid for itself in roughly 4 to 5 months. I am so please with pretty much every aspect of the Magnifica Plus and have already recommended it to friends and family. For coffee lovers who want as close to a real barista experience as you can get at home, pick one of these up. You won't be sorry!

The De'Longhi Magnifica Plus is a super-automatic espresso drink machine. This machine includes the "Latte Crema Hot" milk system. The milk system is able to use regular milk as well as many milk substitutes. There is a dial on top of the milk carafe that allows adjustment from warm milk to milk foam as well as a clean out mode. The Magnifica Plus holds plenty of water, beans and grounds requiring less filling and emptying than my previous machine. There is a 3.5 inch color touch screen where 18 preset coffee drink recipe choices reside. All of the recipes we have used may be customized and saved by each of 4 separate users. The conical burr grinder has 13 settings so that the beans can be ground to your preference (warning: read the instructions before adjusting the grinder. I did not and it took some time to return to a proper setting). The hot water outlet attaches to the milk carafe or a water spout for those just wanting hot water. My primary two drinks are espresso and latte macchiato. Both have adjustments for intensity and size. The menu also has an option for an extra shot. I like the latte set to small size, maximum intensity with an extra shot (sometimes 2). I found it fun to play with the adjustments with several drinks until I saved my personal settings with my ideal drinks. My wife found it a bit frustrating to have to tinker with it a bit but once her preferences were dialed in, her perfect drinks were the touch of a touch screen menu choice away. The machine reminds me about needed maintenance and gives tips for making beverages. We both love this machine and consider it a vast improvement over our similarly priced previous machine.

    Your personal barista at home

I am a very serious European living in the USA, which can also be translated as a coffee snob. Over the last twenty years here, all types of coffee machines have been brought to my house with increased performance, notably in the last year. I am happy to say that this De'Longhi Magnifica Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine is the ultimate level of perfection, and finally, I can say that I have my barista at home. When the level of taste of your coffee is important and you know that so many elements have an influence on it, the need for controlling those variables: water temperature, bean grinding, steam level, steam pressure.. becomes an obsession. At the same time, I want something that can be simple and easy to prepare. For some time, I struggled between the fully automatic machines where I was presenting the variables to be sure that the coffee was prepared after pushing the button but each preparation required a presetting and the semiautomatic ones where you can play with the elaboration each time but preparing your coffee will take some time. In fact, the Magnifica Plus is exactly the solution for covering the gap between both and in my opinion, with all those 18 options (recipes) to choose from this should be the solution for quality and speed. Some elements that I have in mind to declare this the best option for automatic coffee machines: .- Variety of options: 18 are the preset recipes that you can directly select from the tactile screen and automatically your barista will do the combination of components to deliver your beverage, Sounds basic, and this is part of its beauty. .- More variety added: after the basic present options, note that the machine adds an additional option for playing with the components: water, coffee, and size that will determine your own personal preference. All those settings are actually recorded as part of your personal profile and the machine will remember them next time you prepare your beverage. The machine has the possibility of having up to 4 profiles (one per household member in my case). .- Coffee and the importance of grinding, with a significant reservoir size for coffee beans (0.55 pounds) that is sealed enough to minimize reducing the oxidation of coffee. The machine includes a grinder to transform your beans into the ground size needed (13 griding sizes). The process, after setting the size is hands-free and the machine secures the exact dosage. This is relevant because, with the coffee bean, the grinding size is the component that determines the taste and caffeine level that goes into your coffee cup. .- The water and steam with a reservoir that can be removed and filled with almost 7.5 water cups (60 ounces), you will have enough water for many services. The fast heater can generate steam up to 15 bar of pressure in no time. This is significantly important when you are preparing your espresso, after properly pressuring coffee the steam should traverse your freshly ground coffee to extract the coffee oils. .- My Magnifica includes a milk frothier that deals with milk and milk alternatives, allowing you to personalize your drink with 3 different frothing settings - light, creamy, or dense. This is basically part of the myriad of options that this machine can offer. One element here that is interesting in my particular family setting. Just thanks to the low coffee and high milk (or only milk receipts) my 14 year old son is also part of the regular users of the machine. Most of the time his super foamy chocolate is prepared with the dense option of this milk frothing. .- Quite easy to clean with all moving parts removable. Including the fully detachable reservoir for the excess water and other brewing subproducts. Note that some of the parts are also dishwasher-safe, so cleaning is not a problem, .- Quite easy to maintain, thanks to all the menus on the screen, that step-by-step guide you from the cleaning process up to the maintenance and regular use of all the components of this machine. The settings can be reviewed at any time and if needed, a link to the manual and support is available on the touch screen. .- Absolute trust in the product. I believe that a manufacturer that offers you two years of guarantee for a product that you will use several times every day is a manufacturer that trusts its product quality. So well, if you register your product on their web, the guarantee is extended to THREE years. Final considerations, This is an automatic coffee machine with enough capacity to tailor the product to your taste, that is impossible you will not be happy for an expected long life of use. I love it! Strongly recommended.

The Magnifica line is what appears to be the entry-level models of De’ Longhi automatic espresso machines but this has nothing to do with the quality of beverages from the Magnifica Plus. From initial setup to first drink took about five minutes after I figured out what the water spout part was and found scissors to open the included trial bag of beans. One thing that surprised me during setup was no mention of bean grind fineness or how to determine if it's correct. I really like the style and design of the machine. The water receptacle slides out to the front and comes out completely for cleaning. It also has the ability to use a water filter (one was included) to ensure the best flavor for your coffee. There is also a fill port so you don't have to take it out completely to fill the container. I also like that you have to pull out the whole drip tray to access and dispose of the spent grinds. It reminds me to dump the waste water even if it's not full. The Magnifica Plus has18 different drink options and the ability to customize the size and coffee intensity for each one. To keep your sanity, there are personal profiles that let the machine remember up to four people’s customizations. It also remembers the last drink made in each profile. The best feature for me is the automatic milk steamer/frother. Just fill the pitcher and connect it to the front of the machine and it does the rest. When you’re finished just take the container off and stick it in the fridge till next time. Making your drinks literally is as easy as swiping through the menu and touching what you want. If it's a milk based drink it shows you the correct setting to put the frother on and starts making your drink. If the default isn't to your liking, you can customize the size from small to extra-large and strength from 1-5. You can also add an extra shot. Once the drink finishes it asks if you want to save the changes to your profile. I was able to measure the difference in sizes for a coffee: Small was 5oz, Medium was 6.3oz Large was 7.5 and Extra-Large was 9.8oz. One final option is if you want to use pre-ground coffee, which needs to be selected before you brew. I’ve been pleased with all the drinks I’ve had so far and look forward to building my next favorite choice. If I had to find a negative it would be that there is no light on the spout shining down into my cup. There is nothing entry-level about the Magnifica Plus and if you're looking for a fully automatic coffee experience from bean to cup including milk, this is the one to get.

De'Longhi outdid themselves. I love coffee. I have been saving money and time making a line to buy my coffee. so, its preprogramed to make 18 different coffee drinks. and you can save a custom drink recipe. it has a nice touch screen display to navigate the menus and make your drink. the nice thing about the magnifica plus is that you can use other milks like soy milk, almond milk and rice milk. it's a game changer having this ability for your lattes i tried with another machine and i was upset since I can't drink any kind of milk and I prefer almond or rice milk myself. the machine does use filters, and it adjusts to how hard your water is it something that I didn't understand until i got this magnifica plus. the carafe for the milk can be removed and put in the fridge just in case to put too much milk in it. you don't have to put that milk back into the bottle. by the way you have to use pre ground coffee, no pods or anything like that. so you get a wide range of coffee choices which i prefer. I rather have a French vanilla from one brand and then a dark roast from another. you are not stuck with that one brand of coffee

If you’re considering this machine, then you likely know what a good cup of coffee tastes like. The bottom line is this DeLonghi Magnifica Plus makes excellent espresso drinks, looks sleek, and would be a great add to any kitchen. Overall I give it 4.5 stars, losing a half star because it could use better documentation. PROs • Set up is simple and the machine comes fully assembled. Like many espresso makers, a litmus strip is included to adjust the machine to your water’s hardness. • There’s a separate chute that lets you make a single cup of coffee with pre-ground beans instead of what’s in the hopper. This is useful, for example, if you want to make a cup of decaf. And, if you make a coffee using the chute that requires two shots, the machine will run the brew cycle once, then prompt you to add more grinds for a second shot. • Drink strength has 5 levels of adjustment. This allows for a fine customization. I was able to find a better balance between acidity, fruitiness and bitterness with the same beans on the DeLonghi versus other machines I’ve used. • There’s a great variety of drinks available on the Magnifica Plus: Espresso, Coffee, Doppio, Long, Americano, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Latte, Cappuccino Mix, Espresso Macchiato, Flat White, Cortado, Milk, Hot Water. Some drinks also have a “cold” option that will prompt you to add ice to your cup before the drink is prepared. The Milk option is nice in case you want to heat or froth milk without having coffee. • Standby time before the machine automatically shuts off is adjustable from 30 min to 3 hrs. This gives you a generous range so that you don’t have to restart the machine in between cups of coffee. • The DeLonghi is easy to maintain. It does not require periodic lubrication, and its infuser is recommended to be cleaned monthly. Also, the internals don’t get very dirty in the DeLonghi. When the infuser is pulled out, there are not many grounds spilled over in the inside. • At the end of every milk drink, the DeLonghi runs a cleaning cycle to rid milk from the tubes, but the container can be stored in the fridge without immediate washing. This is more convenient compared to other machines whose milk container must be washed after every use. CONs • Documentation is a let down. Though there are pictures on the display of the different drinks, there is no description of what the drinks mean or how they are made by the machine, which may or may not be what you’re used to from a café. For example, what’s the difference between a Double Espresso and Doppio in DeLonghi’s vernacular? DeLonghi really needs documentation or a website explaining what their drink definitions are. • The milk frother does not get as hot as I’d like, especially compared to a coffee maker with a steam rod. The Magnifica pours milk foam at 135 to 140 degrees versus 180 degrees using a steam rod. This is likely to avoid getting dried upscalded milk in the internal mechanism. If you’re serious about milk foam, you’ll want a separate steamer or frother that gives you more control. So is the DeLonghi as good as my favorite café? The coffee itself is excellent and on par after some experimentation with beans, aroma strength, and grind setting. I certainly prefer the froth and foam from a café, though. What you get with the DeLonghi is a high level of customization, a great variety of drinks, a modern appearance, and low maintenance. If it’s in your budget, it’s well worth getting.

The De'Longhi Magnifica Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine is an awesome, must have for coffee lovers. I moved from an older De’Longhi Dinamica machine and was pleasantly surprised by how great this machine makes all sorts of coffees. First, setup is extremely easy. The machine takes you step-by-step through the setup process using pictures and prompts on the 3.5” color screen. Couldn’t be any easier to get up and running within a few minutes. Speaking of the color touchscreen, I thought it would be “gimmicky” but it is actually extremely useful. With simple taps of the screen, you can adjust the size and intensity of your drinks. You can even create different profiles so you and others can save customizations making drinks the next time that much easier. It’s so simple to use the screen and follow the instructions. Flavor and variety from this machine are what you would expect from a machine at this price point - great. With many drink options, including hot frothy milk - my kids favorite for hot chocolate, and the customizations, you can brew a perfect cup of coffee every time. The milk carafe on this machine is a huge step up from the older version. With the ability to adjust the amount of froth, you can make a perfect frothy drink in no time. And the machine steps you through the cleaning process after every use of the froth capability so you don’t have to mess with gunky jammed parts. The De’Longhi Manifica Plus machine has become out daily driver replacing our standard coffee maker. It’s not the cheapest automatic machine on the market, but well worth the price!

At first looks I said out loud OMG this is a beast of a machine because of the packaging it was in but once I got it out of the boxes and on the counter it was a different story. I ended up having to read almost everything in the manual to figure out what went where but it was well worth doing once done reading. I also thought it would take some time to learn how to use but once I set everything up and plugged it in the De'Longhi machine took over by telling me every step along the way granted my first time ever making an espresso didn't look right lol (looked like chocolate milk) it turned out pretty good and tasted like one that you would buy. This espresso machine has a the ability to tell you via the screen on it exactly how to make each one and also lets you choose how big of a drink and how strong. The best part is you can even use pre ground coffee or beans which ever you prefer. The Pros to the De'Longhi - Magnifica Plus are That it lets you know when to clean, descale, add more water to the reservoir, has a bean grinder and storage for beans, a scoop to put pre ground coffee in with in the area for it also tells you when to put in it and it makes a dang great Latte, Cappuccino.. Cons to it and there's only two the Price sticker but who cares about that for a great Espresso at home and not having to pay for one at a corner Coffee house and the fact of having to buy the glassware to use to make the drinks. All in all this is a 100% buy item even with the price tag

Calling all coffee lovers. Get it before it is gone. The De'Longhi Magnifica Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine is a little too perfect. The brew quality of the espresso is perfect, and it allows for personalization for different users. The set up is very simple, and most everything is done with the touch screen introduction. The detachable milk carafe makes use very simple. All you have to do is add the milk and if you have any leftover simply detach and store the whole carafe in the fridge and it will be ready to go next time you need it. The machine itself does a great job in cleaning itself when done or when you turn it off. So far it has done ok with regular coffee beans and also the flavored coffee beans that tend to be a little more oily. Best part is that once you make your latte or expresso or your choice of brew the grains get put in the tray that is attached to the drip tray and can be easily separated to dispose the used coffee. Taste quality is not lost in anyway and the built-in grinder makes that so much easier to not worry about having separate things. Highly recommended for the compact design and great taste.

I have tried a few different semi automated and automated coffee machines over the years and some are as simple as a Keurig or Nespresso, put the pod in and set it and forget it and it does the basic job of brewing hot coffee from a pod and its a one size fits all option. Then there are the more complicated machines such as Breville or De'Longhi, which are the fancy automated options, touting pre set recipes concoctions and built in milk frothers and several options and even, in this case, a built in bean grinder. Surely, the automated options are a better choice you would think, however not so fast. Keep in mind, the automated options have a lot more moving parts, tout self cleaning but really create more hassle and in the end its not as satisfying a product then you thought. This machine is no exception and is supposedly the newest of De'longhi line of automated expresso/coffee makers. Lets start with the likes of this machine: The built in coffee bean grinder is not just a nice to have but with the 18 built in auto drink recipes this has, its a necessity to have fresh ground coffee for all of your drinks, not only is it a better flavor but it makes it a fresher cup of expresso or cappucinno or machiatto. I did also like that this machine had drink features at the touch of a button ready to go and you can set a cup down and hit the touchscreen recipe and it will create the drink of choice with the 4 drink size options and various coffee intensity. You can even save your set up profile of your "likes" directly on the machine, which is a nice feature if you want to wake up and just hit a button. I did like that this had a built in milk cream system which frothes and pours this directly in the cup, instead of a separate milk frothing feature and it produces a good foam for my drinks. Also, I did like that this fit easily on my counter, actually under my cabinets not taking up a ton of real estate similar to my Keurig or Nespresso. Different than a pod coffee maker, this is a fresher, better tasting cup of expresso. Now on to the dislikes of this machine: It is an absolute hassle to clean no matter what it states about dishwasher safe and easy to clean parts, the frother creamer system is 5 pieces that break down and can go into a dishwasher however this is a daily chore, same with the tray which is constantly catching drips from the milk frother and drip spouts and fills easily and if its not attended to, will cause issues. I would also expect this machine to be more self cleaning in some areas. For the price you are paying for this fully automated machine, my expectation is this would have more cleaning options or make it much easier to clean. Also, if you are looking for a regular cup of coffee from this machine, it comes out very strong or very weak and as much as I played around with it, it still didnt come out at the right intesity. At the end of the day, this is a pretty fancy machine and has several features that cater to many different types and styles of drink concoctions. However, with the hassles of cleaning, trying to play around with intensities to get the drink the right way and the price point, I am just unsure this is the machine for everyone.
