The Avata 2 is a great first FPV drone, whether flying for fun or commercially. It has a beginner mode for those that have never flown FPV before and sport mode for once you get more comfortable with lying. It’s small enough to fit in tight places if you’re flying through houses for real estate videos or in between obstacles if just playing around with it. I highly recommend it.

It’s my very first time to use a drone (I am content creator) and I learned how to use Avata 2 within 1 day literally!
They made that process to learn so easy (you will have the tutorial in there app)
I can’t imagine my life without Avata 2. I use it for business but also when I want to just relax. Googles gives me feeling I can fly. I highly recommend it! I just wish the battery life is longer.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING FPV DRONE!

The new DJI Avata 2, new Goggles 3 and new Motion Controller 3 are even better than I had hoped they would be! The Avata 2 is not just the original Avata with some changes. It is an extensively redesigned and significantly improved FPV drone that is absolutely incredible!
DJI is an industry leader in drone development and manufacturing, and their continued drone development and improvements are undoubtedly among the many reasons for the great popularity of DJI drones.
The Avata 2 frame is a significantly revised, new design. The new Avata 2 frame is more closed and less skeletal than the older model and may therefore be even stronger. The propellers are now located at the midline of the aircraft, rather than near the bottom. The motors are now below the propellers (upward facing). The redesigned battery is lighter and longer resulting in more even weight distribution. These changes lower the center of gravity of the aircraft and improve balance and stability. The battery is now fully enclosed in the frame and the positive latching system should prevent ejection upon crashing as sometimes occurred with the original Avata.
The five blade propellers have been replaced with a redesigned three blade airscrew, with significantly higher pitch and cup. The revised propeller geometry should produce more thrust. The original Avata is the loudest drone that I have ever heard. Cinewhoops are generally louder than camera drones, but the screeching, extremely loud Avata stood out. The new Avata 2 is lower pitched and significantly quieter (81db).
The MicroSD card / USB ports have been relocated from the difficult to access location inside a duct, to the side of the drone body.
The new Avata 2 Fly-More Kit includes:
• Avata 2 FPV Drone
• Four Replacement 3” Propellers with Screws
• Camera Gimbal Cover
• Three DJI 2150 mAh, 14.76 V Intelligent Flight Batteries
• Battery Charging Hub
o Charges Batteries Sequentially, Not Simultaneously
o Power Accumulation feature allows transfer of residual power from multiple batteries to be aggregated in the battery with the most remaining power
• Goggles 3 FPV Goggles with PIP
• Replacement Forehead Cushion
• Frames with -2D lenses (also usable for Prescription Corrective Lenses)
• Cables: USB-C OTG (On The Go) and USB-C
• Motion Controller 3 with Lanyard
• Sling Carrying Case with padded dividers
The Avata 2 Fly More Kit does not include several essential accessories which must be purchased separately.
• MicroSD Cards for Drone and Goggles
• USB Charger and cables
• FPV Remote Controller 3 (essential for flying in Full-Manual / Acro Mode)
• Neutral Density Filters
Some of the most important specifications for the new Avata 2 are as follows:
• 1/1.3-inch CMOS image sensor
• 12 Effective MP
• 155° viewing angle
• f/2.8 aperture
• 4K 30/50/60 fps HDR
• MP4 (H.264/H.265) video format
• 10 bit D-Log M color mode
• 04 video transmission system
o 2 transmitters, 4 receivers, 4 antennae
o 13 km maximum transmission distance
o 60 Mbps bitrate
o 24ms latency
• 23 minute battery life
• 46 GB internal memory capacity
• RockSteady 3.0+ and HorizonSteady Electronic Image Stabilization
• Top speed:
o Normal Mode: 18 mph
o Sport Mode: 36 mph
o Manual Mode: 60 mph
• Take-Off Weight: 385 grams
The new FPV Goggles 3 has substantial improvements over the Goggles 2 and Integra Goggles. They retain the high resolution, 1080p, 100 fps micro-OLED screens, rated at 700 nits brightness and 100 Hz refresh rate. They still have easy and convenient pupillary distance adjustment and focus adjustment (-6 - +2 diopters) via a pair of knobs on the bottom of the goggles.
The impactful improvement comes from the two front facing cameras on the Goggles 3. “Real View PIP” can be superimposed on the screen, affording situational awareness and enhanced safety. The field-of-view is extremely narrow and non-adjustable. Despite the PIP, the FAA requirement for a VLOS Observer remains. The fit of the Goggles 3 is more comfortable and includes a forehead support to which the head strap (with ratcheting adjustment) is attached resulting in the weight being on the forehead instead of the face. The battery is in the back of the head strap, eliminating the separate power cable. The battery is claimed to last approximately two hours, and recharges in twenty minutes.
Goggles 3 also adds Wi-Fi sharing of the video feed to the DJI Fly app, allowing simultaneous viewing on smart devices up to about 5 meters away, without tethering. This feature is really nice and convenient.
The Goggles 3 replaces the touchpad with a 5D switch to access the menus. One of the great features in those menus is Head Tracking Mode. This mode allows controlling the camera direction with your head, while controlling the drone’s flight path with the controller. This facilitates some great video such as orbiting around the subject and sweeping in/out from the subject.
The new RC Motion Controller 3 is smaller, and the positions of the joystick and buttons have been rearranged. The Motion Controller 3 retains the Lock (brake) button, which will immediately halt the drone and place the drone in a hover. This important feature can avoid loss of control and crashes. While “Locked”, menus can be accessed with the AR cursor on the screen.
Normal and Sport Mode (intelligent modes) flight is easy and intuitive. The flight path is denoted by the cursor circle on the screen. Up/down and left/right rotations of the Motion Controller shift the position of the cursor and control the direction of flight.
Flying in Full Manual Mode has been the only way to fly aerobatic maneuvers. DJI implemented “Creative Edge Easy ACRO”, which allows 360° front/back flips, 360° rolls and 180° drift turns using the Motion Controller 3.
The pre-programmed “Easy Acro” is great fun! Having the ability to execute aerobatic maneuvers including flips and rolls without extensive simulator practice and Manual Mode flight experience is nice!
Preparing for the first flight of the Avata 2 includes:
• Drone Registration with the FAA
• Charging ALL of the batteries
• Installing all software updates using the DJI Fly app (which is not in the Google Play Store and Must Be Sideloaded from the DJI website)!
• Pre-flight check of the aircraft, Goggles and Motion Controller including connectivity, and micro SD card installation in the Avata 2 and Goggles 3
• Verify airspace clearance through FAA B4UFLY and LAANC if approval is necessary
The Avata 2 has three Flight Modes. The two intelligent modes, Standard and Sport function similarly, with Sport Mode allowing a top speed of 36 MPH. In those modes the Avata 2 can automatically level and maintain a stationary hover when the controls are neutral and automatically return home (launch point) when battery power is low or signal is lost. In Full Manual (Acro) Mode, there is no automated assistance from the drone. Full Manual means just that, and the pilot must control every aspect of drone operation and flight, with a top speed of 60 MPH.
Avata 2 flight is very intuitive and easy with the Motion Controller 3 “joystick”. What truly differentiates the Avata 2 from other FPV drones, is that most FPV’s are flown exclusively in full manual mode and no on-board intelligence is present to help avoid crashes. Normal Mode and Sport Mode are intelligent flight modes which make it possible to fly the Avata 2 easily and intuitively right out of the box, including performing some aerobatic flight that could previously only be flown in Full Manual Mode using the optional FPV Remote Controller 3, and only after hours of practice with an FPV flight simulator.
Although the Avata 2 has some intelligent operations, it does not include the features of most camera type drones, such as omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. Compact FPV drones like the Avata 2 are intended to be capable of flight in confined or physically restricted places, including inside buildings, tunnels, etc. They are often flown very close to structures and fixed objects, including trees, walls, etc., and glancing bumps are commonplace. The Avata 2 has fisheye lens optical sensors mounted at the rear/bottom for obstacle avoidance and ground and rearward perception during low altitude and indoor flight.
Camera drone functionality like follow-me / active tracking, point of interest / spotlight tracking, auto-pilot or flying a path along preset waypoints are not present in most FPV drones, including the Avata 2. The Avata 2 retains “Turtle Mode” which permits flipping a crashed, inverted drone upright for resumption of flight.
The Avata 2 provides a great flight experience. It is extremely easy and great fun to fly. FPV flight can be very exciting and can be used to produce spectacular video!
The Avata 2 is packed with so many great features and so many enhancements over the original Avata.
The Avata 2 is reasonably fast, and it is extremely maneuverable. Even though it is small and lightweight, it has Level 5 Wind Resistance.
The battery life is really excellent for an FPV drone. Flight speed and conditions affect power demand and thus battery life, but I am pleased to get approximately 16-18 minutes from each battery in Normal Mode.
The camera is excellent, and videos and stills are incredibly sharp with accurate colors.
The Avata 2 is quickly becoming my favorite drone! I have flown it every day since activation and I am producing some nice FPV videos and really enjoying the experience. The Avata 2 is absolutely fantastic, and I am enjoying every flight!
I believe that the Avata 2 is the perfect drone for anyone who wants to start exploring FPV flight and for any current FPV pilot who wants a durable, ready-to-fly cinewhoop without the trouble of a custom built FPV drone.

Somewhat fun to fly and definitely a different experience to other DJI drones but personally I’d rather fly a Mini 4 Pro as it gets better photo and video and can kinda also do some FPV style shots.

This thing is sold, above all else, as “immersive.” "Fly from the cockpit" and so on... Made me envision something like VR, maybe even a oculus-like feel you’re hoping for. 155°, okay, well maybe an IMAX-type thing, at least a little “roller-coaster” effect… but nope. Maybe the “state of the art” isn’t there yet, but this was supposed to be upping the game to that point, at least that’s what I got out of the advertising. Even the first person I showed it to, they were like “oh, that new VR drone.” - So I know it’s not just me. I thought it would at least feel like flying - kind of.
There’s nothing much in the headset, in my opinion, beyond a regular screen on a remote that is enlarged to be a virtual giant screen in the headset – That’s what’s there, practically a square screen. No wrap around like immersive or something. It’s an enlarged view of the screen that would be on your controller anyway, maybe a little wider or something but certainly no “wow” effect wider. An advantage is that it does enable you to look up and down and to the sides etc. a lot quicker than with joysticks and scrollwheels on a remote. Still, this thing, for me, was like offering a wish of mine for a while to come true: To feel like I was flying. So, this review is for others who have that wish as well, thinking this was going to deliver on that. To emphasize, this was my interpretation of the advertisements that there would be some type of flying feeling, and I think others will assume the same, due to the primary selling point: “Immersiveness” – It is my opinion that they shouldn’t have gone all-in on such a pointed advertising highlight if the product wasn’t going to fully deliver on it. You will probably get something like a flying feel if you haven’t flown a drone before, though; I just don’t think there’s much beyond that, such as beyond the mini 3/4 with controller, for example. I remember my first drone experience, I felt that “up, up, and away” feeling just looking at the screen, the closest to flying while staying on the ground that I’d felt. That was just messing around with a friend’s mini 2 for the first time. Then I wanted one, obvsly, but I wasn’t sure if I’d wreck it etc, so didn’t want to spend a lot and so I got a mini v1 refurb off ebay for cheap, and it worked just fine for the purpose, I was going crazy with it, taking it everywhere, making all these even-today-standards very nice vids, synchronized to music and everything. Then, the v3 mini came out. I'd had my getting-used-to-things phase with the v1, and was beyond impressed, so dropped like $1500 on the v3, got the flymore combo and then 3 more batteries so I could like go all day, start charging and those would be charged by the time I got done with the other batteries, everywhere I was “The drone guy” – people always like “oh you’ve got the drone again, big surprise… lol” but that’s what I’ve been all about. I love it. That was good. I still scour ebay for cheap v1’s and bought a couple for others (xmas etc) so they can check it out too, and if they wreck it then not that big of a deal.. some like it, some don’t care too much, but whatever, I just think this drone “era” is super awesome – albeit just for entertainment in my case, I’d love to figure out some way to actually use these for a side-job or something, not really time for that, but I’d encourage anyone to follow up it if that’s something they’re thinking about and have the time to do it. Anyway, back to this avata 2. Actually it was the most depressing thing for me in a while. This is what was supposed to do it for me, I’d been sold on the “immersiveness” of the advertisements, I think I was probably the first to get one.. minutes after the launch event I was picking one up at the best buy that luckily had one right then, so excited, such high hopes. I tried it out hard, though, setup was a little bit hassle-ish, it didn't recognize the QR code I guess bc I had DJI fly app already, then you plug in the headset via the cord converter to your phone (shown in a pic), then after connecting to your phone it doesn't recognize the avata 2 bc the app isn't updated with it yet, then you just retry scanning the QR code in the box again with your phone and it then prompts for an app update on the phone and it all goes/updates the headset and other components after that (that's the sequence that worked for me, anyway; it updates a few things, so be sure the handheld remote and drone are all on/charged bc it will go through all of them updating stuff); no big deal overall, then started the first flight after the in-headset tutorial of controls etc., in the beginner (super-slow) mode that it starts you flying in by default. It was super simple with the on-screen instructions (I was actually hoping the “square/flat” screen during those instructions was only for that moment, and it would switch to some sort of immersive thing with at least a little IMAX feel or something when flying.. but didn’t; it maybe got a little bigger, but in-all was like a virtual movie theater screen in there.. showing what the drone camera was pointing at); anyway, the controls were easy and I was disengaging the beginner mode in no time, on to the normal and sport modes, zipping across ponds, across fields like a floating rocket-propelled motorcycle, then up, up, and over the trees like a crazy hawk, skimming the edges of the leaves, then up higher, then around and down, all the cool stuff. But here's the thing.. it was the same cool stuff that a regular drone does, albeit it was more “nimble” (you can sort of dive-bomb, spin out of it and then zip between some trees, and spring out the other side doing acrobatic maneuvers like a crazy stunt pilot), it just never gave any feeling beyond just watching a video of doing that stuff.. there’s no “in the plane/cockpit” type feeling. Other notes: I did get out of range for a min.. it goes about the same distance as the mini v3 (which is the latest-model-other-thing that I have) and a battery seems to last about as long: 20 mins or so depending on activity, you can sort of tell when you’re getting out of range bc the screen gets pixelated and you get the typical warning of red range-signal bars like you would normally on a controller/phone interface; however, when it gets out of range here, and finally disconnects, the screen just goes “black” – and you realize you want to see something, but the world’s blind/dark at that moment bc you’re in a headset; whereas when using a typical drone with a controller you don’t freak out so much bc you can at least look up an around where you are. With this, you’re stuck debating in that moment if you should rip the thing off your head or what.. you just need to remember where the return-to-home button is (luckily I’d memorized it pretty well during the tutorial), it’s not like you can “look” for the button to hit very easily bc you’re strapped in to a blinding (literally) head set.. you can activate a see-though action by pressing another thing (that you may or may not remember how to do), then you could see the controller, but in the heat of the moment you're like just trying to save stuff… but then some screen indicators came back a few seconds later, said “failsafe mode” or something; anyway, hold the home button and then a couple seconds later it gets back in range and stuff starts popping back up on the view. It does return pretty low it seems, though, can probably set it to 100m or so, but out of the box I had to raise it up a bit, I forgot what it went to but was something around 60m for the stage 1/ascend on the return-to-home (just be ready to raise it up manually if needed). And be sure to start/launch from a clearing straight up, so that you don’t have to worry about anything if you need to land it via only return-to-home; in my experience, it never landed more than about 5 feet away from where it started (a good thing), so if you have cleared about a 10ft landing zone around where you take off, then should be good bc especially those first few times you might get into some “situations” where you just want to hit the return-to-home and get that thing off of your head. To sum up, it’s a decent drone, is more nimble and has a bigger screen (virtually) – albeit (to me – this is my review – I am okay to say what it made me feel like)… it is un/non-immersive. It’s not a significant new feeling beyond the awesome feeling of a regular drone. You can get close to obstacles, even run into stuff (I didn’t “crash” into anything, but did get right up on things/touching) so that’s a plus. It’s good for like “racing” type actions, you could make a race track cutting around obstacles, trees, something like that. I don’t have any disagreements in saying that, for FPV drones, this probably is like the best one. But, in summary, it doesn’t make you feel like you’re flying .. like at all really, in my case anyway. Regarding rating: it would be 5 if “blown away” (what I was expecting), 4 if it was pretty good but had some obvious improvements they could have made but almost chose not to, in order to leave room for a new version or something. 3 stars if it would have done what it said, in an average manner but in a middle-of the pack average sense with some lazy flaws, like a tv that flickers sometimes but you just put up with it and don’t want to bother with returning it… bc it at least still shows the tv shows enough for you to be able to deal with it. 2 stars is for this thing just being a massive disappointment for me and not doing what it said -in my opinion. It ain’t cheap, but whatever, even if free, it just didn’t deliver on what I was expecting out of it. The other DJI stuff (in my case, the v1 and v3 mini's) has over-delivered, this under-delivered. High standards deserves high expectations. I am simply giving that. As a result, I returned the item and give Two stars.

I hate the motion controller. It either is broken/ doesn’t work right or I’m doing something wrong but all in all I freaking hate it. So I bought the Controller 3 for it hopefully that will fix everything if not I will take it back to Best Buy and trade it in for the Air 2 or Mavic 3 classic or mini 4 pro. But as of right this is how I fell after I get the controller I may change my opinion on everything. But for right now everything is a 3 stars and no I wouldn’t recommend this drone more bc of the motion control is what it comes with. They should have made one that comes with the controller instead of me paying $214 for it on DJI wedsite since if I bought it at Best Buy it would’ve taking 6 days longer to get. I wish Bedt Buy had it at the store for me to buy now and I would’ve bought it there 100%. But hopefully after I get the controller I will change my review on everything but for now that’s how I fell
