Let me just begin by saying if you want to buy Dragon Age: Origins, buy the Ultimate Edition over the regular one. There are a vast amount of downloadable content for this game, which would cost you over $60 to buy online individually if you would decide to buy it later. It's much cheaper in regards to DLC to just buy the Ultimate Edition over the regular one. (Oh, and the DLC is fun, too!)
The game begins with an interesting take; your very own initial storyline based on your character design. Take for example if you chose your character to be an elven warrior; you'll have the option to start out in the elven slums in the absolute worst part of the city, or another option to be part of a nomad clan that evades human society by traveling from forest to forst. These beginning options are limited, but still add a unique sense to the character you create.
The many companions you can chose to add to your party have their own stories and will react to your choices in the game (both big and small) and will affect how they will support you later in the game, if at all. They will also talk with each other, though this will have no effect in the game and is mostly for humor's sake. The story is interesting, long, and detalied. If you chose to do so, there are many books and stories you can collect in the game which you can read at your own time. These will grant you the opportunity to understand the storyline and history of Dragon Age even further, but are not required readings to understand what is happening around you.
But like I said earlier, if you enjoyed Bioware's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, or Jade Empire, you'll enjoy Dragon Age as well. Oh, and how you end the game will affect the storyline for its sequel (if it's out yet by the time you read this).

If your going to play Dragon Age: Origins, this is the way to do it. The value of this unlimited pack is over $100. Just the $30 game and the $30 expansion for it alone would add up to the $60 price tag. But not only that, your getting every downloadable content ever released for it. All valued between $5 and $7 each. With a total of at least seven different DLCs.
As for the quality of the game itself, it's generally recieved as a great game. A 4 out of 5 in my book and many others. Definatly would reccomend it for any RPG fan.

Skipped this game when it was released. Elderscrolls series is much more my speed. As a bargain package deal, though, this game offers hours of semi-challenging gameplay. Not a bad buy for 20 bucks!
