The Ultimate Zombie Slasher, ON THE GO!

Probably the best first person zombie game that I have ever played hands down. I cannot believe Techland was able to fit this massive world on the tiny Switch and it feels like a dream come true when I am on the road with friends sitting in the back seat slashing zombies. This includes all of the dlc, all of the story missions and it runs at a locked 30 fps. If you don't install the update patch the frame rate is uncapped and it actually runs better than the Xbox One version of this game (insane.) Of course, if you don't like variable frame rates, download the update and it's smooth sailing for you whiners. I picked this up at Best Buy because they were actually carrying it in store, which I was honestly shocked that any stores had it.

This game is so much fun! It’s a really good port of the game and runs really well on the switch. It runs very good in docked and handheld mode. The graphics aren’t as bad as I was expecting. Overall for $50 this is extremely worth it with all the content that you are getting. I would 100% recommend getting this game.

    Near Perfect Experience

I want to preface my review by saying that while this isn’t 5/5 stars, it is as close to it as you’ll get for a non-Nintendo 3rd party piece of software - especially a AAA title ported from much more powerful hardware. On to the review! Gameplay: As far as FPS type games go, the mechanics are a mixture of familiar and foreign. While some of the controls took some getting used to the overall experience was a positivity one. Melee combat is satisfying, and the wide array of available weapons and their multitude of enhancements left me happy. Gunplay left a bit to be desired, mainly because I was playing on the small screen of the switch. If you spend some time dialing in your controller dead zones and responsiveness you might find it more engaging. The real gameplay experience in my opinion is the parkour style movement system that allows you to traverse maps in a very exciting way. Running, vaulting, climbing, zip lines, and a customizable dune buggy are all available for you to use in order to get around. I had a blast trying to keep a continuous and skillful pace while trying to avoid the living dead in what amounts to a gigantic parkour course. The verticality and intricacies of the environment are a great example of map design. Graphics: This is where the quality of this port shines truly shines through. I had fairly tempered expectations in regards to the visual fidelity of the game but I was blown away with what the devs achieved here. This game is incredibly optimized. The first 10 minutes I was in awe that I was playing this on a handheld console. Every bit of performance has been squeezed out of the Switch, and while you won’t be getting a 1080p 60fps experience, you won’t be disappointed. Stutter and lag were rarely present, old times were very reasonable, and fps dips were rare. Audio: The atmosphere created by the sounds in this game is phenomenal. Snarling, screaming zombies keep you on edge. The sounds of weapon impacts and gunshots are satisfying. Voice actors are a bit hit or miss. Main character dialog and interactions are good, but everything else felt pretty phoned in. Overall, still a great job. Value: I typically prefer a short game with interesting story that doesn’t drag on any more than it needs to. I also appreciate a game with lots to do, large areas to explore, and that has a good replayability factor. Dying light falls somewhere in the middle. Never did I feel the need to just knock out the main story, nor did I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content to explore. For the price, which includes multiple DLCs and a full length expansion, you really can’t beat what’s being offered here. Conclusion: Dying Light Platinum Edition is a must buy for fans of zombies, FPS, and action/adventure games. The smaller issues are easily overshadowed by the game’s strengths. I got my moneys worth - you probably will too!

This open world zombie experience is a miracle in itself to be running on Switch. Having owning this on Xbox One I know graphics wise it wasn’t fair to compare; what is accomplished by the the developer is magic. It looks comparable and gameplay is on point. All post content is included as well.

I had never played DL when it first released back in 2015. The Switch version is my first intro. Let me just say, it’s absolutely incredible. It looks great, gameplay is smooth and I feel that there are no compromises really for what I seen from comparisons between Xbox and Switch versions. At least none I care about really. I only play handheld so it looks great to me on the 7inch OLED screen. The game is fully intact. This is a great experience so far with all of the upgrade, parkour and things to do. Voice acting is great and I have not felt bored even 20 hours in. If you like zombie games even just a tiny bit, you need to check this out on Switch.

For such a massive open world game with tons of NPCs and Zombies on screen at once, it’s almost a miracle how this handheld game on the switch runs at an almost smooth 30fps. Sure buying it on the PS5 or Series X would jet you the added benefit of higher resolution and 60fps, but when you have the capability of taking this massive game with you anywhere you go, the resolution and frame rate difference is negligible. Would definitely recommend trying it in handheld.
