Bought this as a gift for my son's first gaming PC. Paired it with a Ryzen 5 5600 and AMD 6700 XT video card for 1400p gaming on high settings. Colors are vivid and response time is fast. We dont use the integrated speakers on the monitor but they are available. It features 1 display port, 2 hdmi My son is impressed with it and it fits his gaming space. On sale for less than $200 it was a no-brainer.

Pro: for 229.99 + tax, you get an IPS panel with 1440p and 165Hz Con: 1. The specs are incorrect. There are two HDMI ports, one 2.0, and the other is 1.4. The DP port is 1.2, NOT 1.4! (The 165Hz is for DP only. With HDMI, the max is 144Hz) 2. The one I got has two bad pixels, I probably will return/exchange for this reason alone. 3. The overall color is blu-ish. See attached pic, the left side is this monitor, and the right side is a ThinkVision P27h-10. Both are on sRGB preset, connected to the same PC. I tried to adjust the colors but just can't get rid of the blue tone. (or maybe one can say the P27h is redish. I guess it's down to personal preference.)

Picked this up on sale for $199 for a birthday present and it was well worth it. 165Hz is buttery smooth. No real issues VESA mounting it but I may be looking into a new desk arm mount to support my new large son. Desktop is running an R53600 16GB DDR4-3600 and an RTX 2060, pushing 165Hz in OW2 with DLSS on performance mode. peaking 100+ in MWII.

The Element Electronics 27" IPS LED 1440p QHD FreeSync 165Hz 1ms Gaming Monitor in Black has been an exceptional purchase. Despite being budget-friendly, this monitor offers remarkable performance and has been available without any issues for nearly a year. It's amusing how the salesperson at the store tried to discourage me based on the brand's unfamiliarity. Their subjective reasoning couldn't have been more wrong. This monitor has proven to be a fantastic choice, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking quality gaming without breaking the bank. (5/5 stars)

I caught this on a sale, which was lucky. This monitor would get a 4.5/5, as the only small issues I have is the color contrast for the PS5 and the very small black edges when using my PC. This monitor can do 120hz for ps5, and go up to 165hz on computers with up to 2560x1440p. It looks really good, easy to assemble, and just sleek. I haven’t tested sound quality as I use headsets but display wise, this thing is beautiful.

Purchased as a 2nd monitor to read maps and have discord up as I play tarkov on my more expensive one. Speakers suck but I expected that. Only weird issue is when I tab out of a full screen game, sometimes the screen goes crazy and I’ll have to CTRL+Delete a few times to get it go back to normal. Can disable the corny rgb on the back of the display. Other than that, 1440p, 165hz, 200bucks.. can’t really complain.

I bought it for my gaming pc, I have a rtx 3070 ti and this monitor makes almost most of the power of the gpu. The only con I would be that 'almost' since the hdmi cable supports up to 144 hz and not 165hz so I guess I would have to buy another cable if I wanted to get those extra fps. Overall, a pretty decent monitor and still a great price.

The Cubic Zirconia of Gaming Monitors

Choosing a monitor for your gaming PC is just as important as choosing what components go into your PC. What good is power without a screen capable of showing you what it can do? As the definition of a good framerate soared well past the 60 FPS mark in the era of eSports, so too have monitors evolved to accommodate gamers’ needs for speed. Element Electronics has been around for quite some time as a budget-oriented monitor brand, and they now offer gaming displays like this 27” IPS LED model. While the spec sheet is quite impressive, listing a litany of features comparable to higher-end options, the end result leaves something to be desired, especially for multi-monitor users. Of note, I am running this on a custom desktop with a Ryzen 5800X, 64GB of RAM, and a Radeon 6800XT. While I had little trouble reaching the performance limits of the monitor with this machine, your mileage may vary greatly depending on your CPU and graphics card combination. - Unboxing & Setup The Element 27” IPS Gaming Monitor comes well-packaged and with both DisplayPort and HDMI cables - a welcome change from other brands that sometimes only include the lone HDMI cable. Unboxing includes using the styrofoam packaging as a support piece for safely installing the stand without removing the screen from the box before this step is complete, which is a nice touch to prevent accidents. Unfortunately the included instructions are poorly written and miss some details, but assembly is a straightforward affair nonetheless. The fit and finish of the screen within its chassis is just okay, with cheap plastics detracting from the sense of quality and causing some difficulty aligning the 8 screws to attach the stand. The menu buttons are also molded in shapes that aren’t particularly comfortable to press. The stand is the biggest disappointment for the monitor overall, as it sits at a fixed height with only tilt adjustment, making lining up to other screens in a multi-monitor setup difficult or impossible without an aftermarket stand. It also does not hold particularly stable, wobbling significantly more than the higher-end monitor (also using a 165Hz, 27”, IPS panel) I have it paired with. Standard VESA 100x100 mounts do bring versatility at least. I do need to mention that the power-on splash screen is particularly obnoxious. A bright, royal blue screen with the Element logo blasts your eyeballs for a second or two at each power-on. I couldn’t find an option to disable this, either. - Connectivity & Menu Options Two HDMI inputs (one 2.0, one 1.4) and a single DisplayPort 1.2 port offer up reasonable connectivity options for a budget-oriented screen, with a USB port providing power (no data) for other devices and a headphone port for discreet listening. The three inputs can be toggled using the “E” button along the bottom of the screen. The standard set of menu options are present but with some odd names, such as “ECO” for image quality presets, and “Over Driver” for response time adjustment. There is also an HDR option present, which seemed to make little if any noticeable difference in image reproduction besides blasing the display brightness to maximum and disabling all other tuning settings. The monitor is not advertised as HDR compatible, however, making its inclusion strange to say the least. Full adjustments for RGB channels are present as well to calibrate colors a bit better. Menu navigation is tricky with the row of buttons available, but they get the job done. Additional settings allow for 16:9 or 4:3 image modes for displaying legacy devices, and an on-screen crosshair is available for an advantage in certain first-person shooter games with hip-firing. - Image & Sound Quality An in-plane switching (IPS) panel is the key selling point for this budget-oriented monitor, offering superior color reproduction and significantly better viewing angles than a twisted nematic (TN) display. The advantage of a TN display usually lied in its refresh rates, hitting 120Hz or higher at an eminently affordable price, but at the expense of overall image quality. In recent years, high refresh rate IPS panels have come to market, and over time these panels have come down in cost to the point that affordable brands like Element have a selection of “A” or “B” grade panels to pick from and offer close quality at drastically reduced prices. The Element 27” IPS Gaming monitor does a good job reproducing content with good color depth, but it’s not without its caveats. The panel used on this display doesn’t seem to be the same one as my other monitor with identical specs, showing a more blue hue overall with colors that are just a little off from the sRGB setting on my main screen, and exhibiting significantly more ghosting even on the fastest response time settings. They don’t make the experience bad by any stretch, but its shortfalls are much more evident against a monitor costing about 25% more. One issue I have is that there’s significant backlight bleed on dark backgrounds. This is generally unavoidable on all but the highest end screens due to the way panels are manufactured, but the extent to which each panel exhibits such bleed is a key differentiator for panel quality. The Element monitor exhibits strangely uniform backlight bleed at all corners as shown in the attached photo. Once again, this is less noticeable when using the monitor in a single-screen setup, and ambient lighting will help compensate for the lacking uniformity of the backlight. The monitor includes built-in speakers which are, in every way, pretty terrible. The weak, tinny audio output leaves budget laptops producing better sound, and at maximum loudness the sound is pretty quiet. The built-in headphone port is equally weak, offering very little power to drive anything but wired earbuds with low impedance at a decent volume, and worse yet the onboard digital audio converter (DAC) produces tinny sound that’s handily beaten by any other headphone or speaker output you may have available on your PC. It’ll do the job in a pinch, but even so you’ll want to consider using another device for sound at all times. - Gaming Performance Despite the image quality not quite living up to the expectations set by other panels, gaming performance on the Element 27” IPS Gaming Monitor is quite solid all around. With the “Over Driver” set to its highest setting (for fastest response times), the screen does look significantly better than expected in motion. Fluid gameplay was not an issue with a good response time, making highly twitch-dependent games smooth and enjoyable in ways a 60Hz monitor cannot. The screen supports variable refresh rate technology via AMD FreeSync, which must be enabled on the monitor’s menus before enabling on your PC. This will also work with NVidia graphics cards as FreeSync is identical to the open VESA Adaptive Sync standard, just with AMD’s branding. This also means Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 can take advantage of the monitor’s 120Hz mode if you prefer to game on a console instead of PC. I found variable refresh rate helped a lot with keeping the action consistent. In testing, I came across multiple games that dipped short of the 165 FPS target, but with the monitor’s refresh range being 60Hz to 165Hz, FreeSync smoothed out the action when framerates fell dramatically. This range is also wide enough for Low Frequency Compensation to kick in, so that when framerates fall below 60 FPS the action will continue to be as smooth as possible by “doubling up” the refresh rate to match the framerate (e.g. at 59FPS the monitor will switch to 118Hz, 58 FPS switches to 116Hz, etc. until framerate recovers to 60 or higher). I was concerned that the size of the monitor was too small for 1440p resolution, but at arm’s length the viewing distance is perfect for normal (100%) scaling within Windows, and the image still plenty large enough to enjoy for gaming. The pixel density is just enough that the additional render load of 1440p is justified, as I doubt 4K would look significantly better at 27” for how much strain it puts on a graphics card. - Bottom Line The Element 27” IPS Gaming Monitor can’t hide its budget panel intentions, but it makes a good attempt. In a single monitor gaming setup, this screen would be quite good for the money, but paired with any display from a higher-end or more popular brand its shortfalls will be evident. Ultimately its budget pricing is what it has going for it, but at a $319 MSRP it’s not a far cry from higher end screens of similar spec. On sale, however, the Element makes for a compelling argument for a good monitor on a budget. The Element 27” IPS Gaming Monitor thus comes conditionally recommended, should it be available at a decent discount from its MSRP.

Once I put this monitor together, which takes a screwdriver and some careful handling, my first impression was that, although it does not change the game, looks moderately sleek. I love the razor-thin bezels, but I do wish the .75” (1cm) chin was slightly thinner, and the brand name a bit more opaque. The heavy, metal stand is well designed aesthetically, does not take too much space, and maintains the monitor well-balanced and wobble-free. Vertical tilt options are good from -10° to +15° but no horizontal adjustments can be made. Also, I would’ve liked to have the ability to raise the monitor, since the clearance underneath is only 3”, especially since I use PC speakers. The back RGB is a nice touch in my opinion. Once I turned it on without playing content, I noticed that there is a lot of gloom at the corners and the black background looks a bit washed out. I messed around with the settings selecting presets and ended up calibrating it myself. While I still experienced that DLED backlit gloom, I was able to minimize it significantly. The on-screen display (OSD) menu takes some getting used to but there you can do a lot of customization. I appreciate the markings on the chin that references button locations, which on most panels you must guess or memorize. However, once I started playing content, my initial qualms about the picture lessened drastically. On first impressions, I found the clarity striking. Sure, I could still see the gloomy corners, but only when deep blacks were displayed. Playing 1440p content, the colors looked vibrant with decent contrast. Sure, I tinkered with the display for some time, but in the end, I was quite pleased. I will say that HDR content is not that great and kind of disappointing, as the colors are a bit oversaturated, white/blacks became “bloomier” and lost a lot of definition. Admittedly, while I may not use this monitor for serious content creation or photo editing, as I suspect the color accuracy is not the best, this monitor is marketed as a gaming panel, and in that, I am happy to report that I was impressed. Coming from a 1080p, the difference is night and day. I was able to take advantage of my high-end PC and enjoy games at a decent 2K picture at 165Hz. Of course, in order to do that, I used the included DP cable. However, what was most impressive is connecting my Xbox Series S to it and finally pushing it to 1440p -120Hz. Of course, almost no game runs at that resolution and speed now, but I’m glad I am ready when they do. The speakers are what you’d expect from any PC monitor: they’re just not that good. The sound is clear and can get loud enough, but it is rather tinny as there is no bass at all. I take it most have better table speakers, a soundbar, or simply wear headphones. In the end, I am very content with the overall experience. This monitor is excellent for gaming -especially on my Series S console and even my Switch. I am sure that there are better monitors out there, and prices are coming down, but at this current price, in my opinion, it is certainly a worthy upgrade from a 1080p panel.
