I have to buy a better/durable AV adaptors to make it really work. Plus, it only work on VGA 4.2, I need a better quality than that. It's not an HD so sometimes the video is not clear. I'm not that satisfied in this product. Although, it's cheaper than Hauppauge, and HD Video. It's affordable for a low income like me to use it at school. :)

I purchased the Elgato Video Capture to transfer some videos from old VHS tapes. I knew their time was limited and that if I didn't do something soon, these VHS tapes would be unusable at some point. The Video Capture was incredibly easy to use and the software walked me through a few short and easy steps (including connecting your video source to recording the video on your Mac and also choosing how to watch and share it). The files are in an iTunes ready H.264 or MPEG-4 file, Transfer video to your Mac from a VCR, DVR, camcorder, or any other analog video device as an iTunes-ready H.264 or MPEG-4 file. Elgato Video Capture’s easy-to-use software guides you through every step, from connecting your video source to recording the video on your Mac and choosing how you will watch and share it. It was very easy to transfer my home videos to my Mac to play in QuickTime, and synch with my iPod and iPhone. I haven't yet edited them in iMovie, but that is next on my list. I'm very pleased and can definitely recommend the Video Capture!

Perfect for Capturing VHS Tapes to a Mac

I own an older iMac (2008) with an Intel Duo Core 2.66ghz processor and 4 gigs of RAM, and I can easliy transfer any VHS videos to my computer without any issues. The quality is decent, not really high quality, but the source material is a VHS, so what can you expect? I have recorded VHS tapes from 30 mins to 4 hours, and never had a glitch or any problems transferring my computer. I have final cut studio on my computer so it's easy to edit and export DVDs. My suggestion for this product would be to make sure you have a really good VCR or other source for playing back your videos. The El Gato and any mid-range computer will work great together, but for the highest quality videos, make sure your source is playing on high quality player. * Also, some people complain about the videos only coming in as MPEG4's, but if you are even slightly tech saavy, you can easily figure out how import your videos as H.264 files.

I bought this product to upload and archive my ancient VHS-based video. I expected the process to be a hassle (trying to get two technologies to work together). Just the opposite, it was super easy. I plugged 3 RCA cords into my old VHS, the other end into the Elgato adapter, plugged it all into a USB port. Software installation was a breeze, and I appreciated being offered a Mac version. The software interface is elegantly simplified and very easy to use. The interface allows you to view and listen to the video being imported as it happens. Upon completion of the upload, you are offered choices to import to iMovie (Mac) for editing, view in QuickTime, or upload directly to your YouTube account. I highly recommend this product, it greatly exceeded my expectations.

The Elgato Systems Video Capture Device was very easy to connect and install. Next, it is very simple to use ~ each step very simple and straight forward. There is a little quality loss, but no more than can be routinely expected.

    Good Way to Save Videos

I had a number of VHS tapes, some more than 25 years old, that I wanted to capture to digital video on a hard drive. I had just bought a new laptop from Best Buy with a 750GB hard drive. When I saw this mentioned in an article, I knew it was what I needed. I have now recorded, and backed up to another external hard drive, videos of my daughter, now grown, when she was a baby. This converter is worth every penny.

it worked for me, for one video then I could't get a video signal, and my VCR wouldn;t work after that, I used my son;s VCR it worked for 10 seconds and that VCR didnt work, so I then used it with my camcorder, worked for 10 seconds didnt work any more Now my camcorder dont work. One big waste of time, I am bringing it back and I am down 2 VCR's and a camcorder. Now I can not watch my home video's if I wanted to. Thanks for nothing Elganto
