I was hesitant to change out my old thermostat because we've been experiencing sub-zero temps, but I was able to do it by myself in under 1/2 hour like they claim. Super easy, built in level, screw holes matched my existing holes perfectly. Instruction are pretty straight forward. I downloaded the app first. Easy setup. If you're swapping out for energy rebate, be sure to write down the serial number, also called MAC ID that is on the back of the t-stat before installation. Much nicer than the old Honeywell I replaced. I enjoy being able to turn the heat down from anywhere if I forget to do so before I leave the house.

It doesn't take an electrician to put in, as the directions they give you in the app make it a breeze. I had the old one removed and the new one up and running in no time flat. Took me longer to find a small enough flat head screwdriver to remove the old wires. It may seem complex when you first get into it, but they even provide little stickers so you can ensure you keep the wires the way they were when you removed them. The physical device isn’t much different than a normal thermostat. Plain buttons to cycle modes and temp. Where the real features come in is when connected through the app. Simple display at first lance just shows the mode and current set temp. Go in further and you can see local temperature, humidity and additional options for the modes, fan, schedule and usage. I like the auto mode where it can control the heat and cool based on a min/max setting. That way when the weather starts changing, I’m not wondering why it is 80 during the day but 60 at night because I didn’t change the settings again. Scheduling allows for programmed or geofencing so you can let it get a little more uncomfortable when you aren’t home due to a normal schedule or when you physically leave the area. The usage stats are something new to me as you can see exactly how long your device is cooling/heating or just running the fan. Which is also an option where you can set a percentage of time to let the fan run for every hour of use, just to keep circulation going. The thermostat has even more settings such that it allows you to restrict min/max points or lock out the panel all together so someone isn’t cranking it up to 80 because they feel cold. It has several efficiency settings to either maximize comfort by maintaining a close temperature control or allowing for a couple degrees of fluctuation. It even has a built-in reminder feature where you can set something as simple as reminding to replace the filter in 3 months or schedule service in another year. Another feature that is dependent on your power company are energy savings programs. For example, my power company will give a $50 gift card and $5 a month, up to 5 months (May to Sep), if you allow your thermostat to make small, automatic adjustments during times of peak electric demand. Though it sounds enticing, I like keeping a steady temperature in my house. So far, this has actually kept my house cooler than expected, even to the point I have it set 2 degrees higher than my old thermostat. I am looking forward to how it will work out during the season change and not waking up freezing in the morning because it was 80 during the day in December. Comparing my electric bill over the past week, since I haven’t really enabled any of the efficiency settings, it has looked about the same. Since I am home pretty much all day, every day, this is what I expected. Keeping the temperature right where I like it.

THE BREAKDOWN: The Sensi ST55 is packed with useful features with an affordable price tag. Some of those features are voice control with Siri (Apple), Alexa (Amazon) and Google assistant, support for Apple Home kit and SmartThings platforms and has support for geofencing. The Sensi ST55 isn’t going to win any awards for the most stylish as it is very plain looking with the classic white matte finish. It measures 3.7(Height) X 5.8(Width) X 1.0(Depth) inches. It has a monochrome LCD panel that measures 1.7(Height) X 2.7(Width) inches. To the right side of that is the menu button and up and down arrows that you use to access the settings where you can select temperature mode, configure heat and cooling pump settings, adjust fan speed, configure the WiFi and configure the humidification set points. Below the screen are 3 buttons the Mode, Fan and Schedule. Included in the box are the thermostat, mounting base, mounting hardware, two AA batteries, wire labels, installation, and welcome guide. There is also a place in the mounting base for the batteries that is used for when the power goes out. Installation was fairly easy. You can follow the on-screen instructions on the app or if you are well versed in the installation there are no need for instructions. To start you need to turn off the power to the unit. Then take a picture of your current wiring, remove the old thermostat, and install the new one by following the instructions. After you snap the thermostat onto the base it immediately powers up. You then open the app and the thermostat. This thermostat performed very well in my testing. I thought there was very little lag in responding to the turning the temp up and down. I set a schedule and there were no issues, Siri voice commands and geofencing procedures worked as expected. The thermostat uses a 2.4GHz WiFi to connect to your home network. The app works great and I felts as if the app was very intuitive and easy to follow and use. PRO’s: -Great price -Supports Geofencing -Works with home automation -Works with Siri, Alexa and google voice commands CON’s: -There is no styling it is very plain and old school despite the features packed in there SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

This actually works quite well. You can’t go wrong if you follow the app walk through for installation. The only thing I ran into was the wiring coming out of the wall was very short. Another inch would have helped. Connecting the thermostat to the WiFi was a little tricky. I made 3 attempts then finally had a connection. Once connected I was able to set up within a minute and had operation. Keep in mind this only works on 2.4GHz. The display is a nice size with back light as needed. After becoming familiar with the physical thermostat I then continued with the app and so far all commands are working perfectly. The main app screen shows the current forecast for the day, current set temp and actual temp in the house. It turns blue when actively cooling/heating and grey when on standby. I was able to send commands successfully from my work place and setting the schedule is working great. Works good with Alexa but I still prefer using the app. Settings are plentiful! There are Display options, System settings that Include: Dehumidification, Temperature Limits, Boost for Max Comfort or Max efficiency. Selections For Heat/Cool on/off. Cycle rates for tighter or Wider control. -+ 5 degrees Temp offset to compensate For location of the thermostat. Humidity offset. A/C Protection to protect equipment. I am pleasantly surprised at how well this works, especially since I upgraded from a manual thermostat from the 80s to this state of the art technology. I highly recommend getting this Emerson Sensi smart thermostat.

The Sensi Smart ST55 is simple to use with great features and excellent compatibility! Design I think the curved rectangular design is just enough to make it interesting without sticking out too much. The buttons that you will tend to use are large and easy to press. The menu button is smaller but still easy enough to press and you will not need to use it much. It's also very clear to see how to use it between the buttons and what is shown on the screen. For some more advanced features you will need to use the app but I like using the app anyway. The display is easy to read and has a backlight that comes on when you press a button. Installation Naturally, make sure you shut off the power to your HVAC system before you do the installation. I never installed a thermostat before and was very impressed with ease of the installation! It was easier than I expected and our house is from the 1990's. We had a very old, round, thermostat with no C-wire. I had these wires connected: RH, RC, Y, and W. There were only four wires and one of them had a jumper to another spot. Thankfully, the ST55 handles the jumper internally so if your old thermostat had a jumper you don't wire it with the ST55. That made the installation go faster and made it a little easier since the wire was hard for me to work with and I didn't have much extra. Once it's all wired, just put in the included batteries and snap the front over the back plate that's on the wall. One thing that was very cool and helpful was the way the app had me select the wires I was using and it told me if it was a valid configuration. Since I never did this before I was very glad for the helpful validation. I will have some images posted here showing the original round thermostat, two pictures of the ST55, and an image of the app showing the wires I was using and the way it showed me it was a valid configuration. Features Besides the standard features it also has an "auto" mode, rather than just "cool" or "heat", that will heat or cool as needed to maintain a temperature. There is also a setting that adds a delay when turning the ac off and on so it doesn't damage the system - for older systems apparently. I turned this on since I know at least some of my system is very old. I haven't noticed any huge delay. It also has an "Early Start" option so it will reach a temperature by a set time rather that starting to heat or cool the house to a given temperature at a given time. It also lets you set a schedule with a range of temperatures - so rather than keeping the temperature at 70 degrees for instance, you can set it to be from 68 to 72. Combining that with the auto heating and cooling could be very helpful in the fall or spring especially. I also set it up with Alex and, though I haven't used that much, I can change the temperature with simple voice commands! Schedules I've already talked about the scheduling a bit but I'll just add that I like the way the scheduling is setup in the app. It gives plenty of options and flexibility. Some of the settings may only be in the app too. I'm not sure, I haven't tried everything on the actual thermostat. The schedules work exactly as expected. I haven't been watching closely to see how exact the "Early Start" is at hitting the desired temperature at the time requested but it was only a degree off the one time I checked and it was probably still "learning" my system/house. Summary I'm very impress with the Sensi Smart ST-55! I think it's a great value and has more features than I expected. I love just being able to see the temp and humidity in the house, as well as temp outside in the area, remotely using the app. I should have replaced my old round thermostat earlier. This one has been doing a much better job of keeping my house at the desired temperature.

I've wanted to change out my AC thermostat for a while with a smart thermostat. When I came across the Emerson SENSI Smart Programable Wi-Fi Thermostat I knew I had to get it. Being from Florida, I wanted something that I could monitor my home for high temperatures while away. I also wanted the ability to control my temps from anywhere inside my home or outside. The install of the Sensi Smart Thermostat was pretty straight forward, but programming took a little bit of work. The only tools that I needed were 2 Phillips head screwdrivers, a number 1 and number 2. Some may need a drill and drill bit to mount their thermostat. Upon taking the old unit off the wall, I easily wired the corresponding wires to their slots and mounted it on the wall. Once wired up and mounted on the wall, utilizing the provided hardware I proceeded to program the unit. Setting up the unit is where I ran into a few snags. I began by downloading the Sensi app on my cellphone and following the instructions from there. My issue came when trying to connect my Emerson Sensi to my home WiFi network and then locating the code needed to link my phone to the thermostat. It took me several tries, but in the end I was able to locate my provided code and get connected. Now that I'm up and running I have used this thermostat for a little over a week now and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I can now monitor my home temps from afar and if needed, adjust the temps from my smartphone. I also like having the ability to adjust my temps from the comfort of my bed. I really like the Sensi and would definitely use Emerson products in my home in the future. A must for anyone looking to upgrade home connectivity.

I used this to replace the thermostat on the aging thermostat in my cabana. It seems that if you're using a boiler system, you may not need a C-wire, but for an electric HVAC it's required. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to run a new common wire (I had a 4-wire system in place), but I got it done. It worked as a digital thermostat straight out of the box. I did need to pick up a cover plate as the wall where the old thermostat was had some damage, which covered it up nicely. The device interface is extremely simple to use. The screen is bright and clear and displays all the information you need at a glance. The buttons for mode, fan and schedule are clearly labeled. We're planning on moving my mother into the cabana this fall and so an easy-to-read display was important. Installation was super easy with the Sensi app. The mounting plate has a built in-level and the included mounting screws/anchors are fine for installation in drywall. I was able to just use the mounting screws and anchors from my old one. An account is needed for access over the internet, but that's expected. With the app it's easy to set a cooling schedule and monitor/change temperatures. You can choose to enable geofencing to allow the thermostat to tell whether you're home or away and set the temperature accordingly. A temperature offset setting can help keep your house at the right temperature if the thermostat itself is in a particularly cold or warm spot. Works well with Alexa and Google Home for voice control with a little bit of additional setup. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to add smart features to their AC system, just check for a C-wire first if you're running a cooling system.

Installation was a breeze with very little effort on the wiring as long as the thermostat being replaced. The installation guide is very deficient so for those who are not well versed in wiring I recommend getting an expert. The app and set up instructions are clear and easy to follow so no issues with connecting to Wi-Fi, adjusting settings and easy to use app. There's also the option to operate manually. It is not touvh screen but for the price is not a problem. The screen has a backlight that only has an on or off option which compared other brands is subpar and also very bright. One of the best features is the ability to display humidity and outside temperature though in small font. The inside temperature has large numbers which is great for distance readings. It comes with stickers that can be attached to each wire and label them so there's little chance of cross wiring. Also included are installation screws and the plastic anchors, two in total. It's been working flawlessly with my heat pump for the past week and half. I've had other Emerson thermostats so I don't expect this one to fail any time soon

The Sensi Smart Thermostat ST55 is your basic smart thermostat with the Sensi app that can control it remotely. It’s an easy install and intuitive controls to set your temperature within the app. It comes withe the thermostat, mounting hardware, installation guide, and wire labels. Installation was pretty basic and straightforward if you have a similar thermostat. Download the app and then set your temperatures day and times within the app. Installation took less than thirty minutes for me, since I’ve installed other units before. I like the ease of use and ability to control it remotely. I do feel that my AC doesn’t run as often as it used to and air temperature remains consistent. No feeling of it’s kind of warm before kicking on. Hopefully my AC bill will be the same or less than last month. Too many days of 100 degrees is killing my electric bill. I would recommend the Sensi Smart Thermostat to anyone needing to set their heating and cooling on a schedule. You can also manually over ride the scheduled settings, for when you need a little more cooling or heating. Thankfully, I haven’t had the need to do that since installation.

The old programmable thermostat worked okay. But you had to punch in everything while standing right on top of it and hope you didn't make a mistake. Repeat a setting for another day? well, rinse and repeat. What a pain! The app walks you through each step, from mounting to wiring then to programming. There are labels (stickers) you can place on each wire as you go. I installed a larger baseplate to hide my slightly larger opening. Really makes the installation look sharp. Once the base is installed, I added the batteries to the mail thermostat body. Yes! You can connect to the Wi-Fi while it's in your lap. Real simple, just follow the instructions, pair the Wi-Fi and start setting your program for each day. I set M-F one way and Sat-Sun another. Four time periods per day. You can even set each day differently if you need to. What I like about the app is I can arrive home early and bump the temperature to occupied mode. I can even ask Alexa to cool or warm the house when I leave work. All without touching anything. The thermostat connects to the FAN, HEAT and COOLING modes of the furnace. If I feel a tad warm, I call out to my ASSISTANT to set the thermostat "cooler". SENSI even let you know how many hours the furnace rean in those three (3) modes. How great is that? Scheduling is one of my favorite things about SENSI. So easy to do. If I plan to work from home tomorrow, I just select that day from the schedule for the AT HOME schedule and everything works great. Reselect it before the following week for my normal work schedule. The battery backup is nice since we have storms and power outages that would otherwise mess up the programming. Also, the top has a button to illuminate the display when you need to read it in a dark room. Truely a simple to install and use device.

Overall This is a nice simple to use thermostst. Something grandma shouldn’t have too hard a time with. It’s a simple press to toggle the on-screen options. More advanced features such as schedules, geofencing, and delayed starts can be configured from the app. There’s an optional service called sensi manager which allows you to control hundreds of thermostats from a single interface. However, being a residential user, this service isn’t really tailored to me. Additionally, this unit supports Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. In the Box In the box you’ve got your thermostat, mounting plate, hardware, a pair of AA batteries, wire labels (to mark current thermostat connections), and install guide/warranty info. Installation This part is pretty straight forward and the app does a great job instructing you. Turn off power (safety first). Pull off the old thermostat. Unscrew the base plate and take note of the wiring. Use the provided wire labels to mark your wires. Your existing base should have a set of letters for each connected wire. Remove the wires and prepare/mount the sensi base plate. Connect wires and layer on the top plate. Conclusion The Sensi Thermostat is feature packed while priced right. Aditionally, depending on your region, your utility provier may also have rebates or incentives to owning the Sensi.

I should have bought a smart thermostat a long time ago. But I was cheap and did not want to spend the $ and my current thermostat worked just fine and I did not feel comfortable changing it out myself. Fast forward to today. I did some web browsing and also followed the various instructions included in this Sensi thermostat and took the plunge and installed this myself. Luckily I had a common wire that was already wired and just was not installed in my current non smart thermostat. I check using a volt meter to make sure it was running back to the unit with AC voltage and boom it was. I followed the setup instructions and I was all set. The base of the unit exactly replaced my current not smart thermostat. Leveled it off, labelled the wires, connected the new base, and began the setup process. App was easy to setup with Sensi via Google play store and the app synchronicity both with Google home and Alexa just fine. The interaction with both Alexa and Google was flawless. No problems. Good job Sensi. The longest part was to learn about the common wire and making sure I did not screw up the wiring. Setup took all but 15 minutes max. After that using the thermostat was easy both manually, via Sensi App, Alexa, and Google all worked great. I would recommend this product because of all the pros I listed above.

Do you have almost everything you need in the box to get connected including wire labels which are very helpful when working on an existing system. I like the look and feel of this thermostat it’s very clean looking and will fit in with any light colored wall. Make sure your existing HVAC system is compatible because it doesn’t work with electric baseboard heat and other systems. I also like that this system is energy efficient. It’s a fairly simple system and you only get a mode fan and schedule button with a menu button also an up-and-down very simple to understand and use. I personally didn’t install because I’m not good with the electrical systems but a friend helped me and it took less than 30 minutes. I also like the app that I can use to change in program our home thermostat even when not at home. This makes the system very efficient so that you don’t have your AC or heat running when you’re not at home you can set certain schedules and it also has Wi-Fi signal the battery life and day of time on the front LCD screen. The system is very reactive.

    Solid Attempt at a Non-Touch Stat ...

I was excited to get my hands on the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat. Not a huge fan of any of the 'dial' type or touch screen thermostats currently available, so I was looking for more of the hybrid approach; the blending of a more traditional button-oriented unit with a fully interactive app via WiFi. The installation is highly driven via the mobile app and that part of the experience was superb relating to getting the unit up-and-running. The guided visuals make it very palatable for the average person and pretty much fool proof. The terminal base of the unit is pretty standard but clearly labeled and the screw pass-thru cut outs allow for small adjustments to facilitate getting the thermostat lined up and leveled. Hard mounted in that back plate is a bubble level that is filled with some higher viscous fluid, making the leveling process easier albeit a touch longer as the ball indicator moves slow. I did experience some points of frustration getting the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat sync'd to my WiFi network because of the way the process works. So if you're like me, expect to perhaps run through that process more than once. It took 2 times to get the unit to connect to the router but since then, it's not had any issues remaining connected. I replaced a Honeywell unit that has been operating flawlessly for years but I wasn't happy with the murkiness of the backlit display. The Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat has a very sharp and clean display that is well organized and if you're walking by to see what is going on and/or to make adjustments, it's great. The buttons on this unit are a tad bit clunky tho. I expected more of a quality, firmer feel to them. But stuff like this is highly subjective. But that display! This is one of the best I've seen or used and the button configuration is all logically organized. Kudos to Emerson. Now on to the more questionable stuff. My old thermostat was a champ and never gave us any grief. It provided us years of reliable control. Being very familiar with its performance, one thing I noticed with the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat - leaving it all configured on its 'out of box' defaults - is that the Sensi is obviously not going to save us any money on our utility bills in its default configuration. Temps here in our area were averaging around 100-degree F for quite some time. And we are fully accustomed to how often our old stat was cycling on & off during cooling. Out of the box, this Sensi stat was cycling two to three times more often during a one-hour period. There are settings to address that but I'll get to that part in a minute. Suffice it to say, touted as an Energy Star product, I'm a little shocked this unit wasn't configured for the maximum efficiency settings as a default. Onto the frustration details. The Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat has a wealth of settings in it and accessing them via the mobile app is very, very convenient. The problem therein is with the explanation of what those settings mean in a 'regular Joe' semi technical way. There are 'Boost' settings for both heating & cooling; Cycle Rate controls, again for both heating and cooling; various offsets and even lock outs & limits ... with the latter ones being pretty straight forward and intuitive. What isn't so great is the complete lack of detailed explanations of what the Boost, Cycle Rate and AC Protect actually do. And the user manual and Emerson website is even more devoid of these necessary details. I believe a highly customizable unit such as this deserves way better explanation of these functions. Aren't we wanting to promote education in this greener tech environment? And specific to the AC Protection, most AC systems of the last 20 years already have controls built into the hardware for this type of protection. So is this control for much older systems? Emerson fails to explain. One thing that is clear is that the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat doesn't obviously incorporate any kind of Ai layer like many other modern thermostats. This is something that will definitely appeal to a large segment of the consumer base. The app, lack of explanation for some of the controls notwithstanding, is overall very pleasant and user oriented in presentation. You can quickly make temporary changes between scheduled events with ease and completely reconfigure the sched with equal ease. There's a Statistics tab which is 'decent' but not detailed. ( another oversight by Emerson IMHO ). It's a good app overall despite its flaws and it's easy on the eyes. The Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat has the facilities to control humidity if your HVAC system has that ... but even if you don't ... having a humidity monitor is a much-welcomed Bonus. Overall I think the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat scores between 3 and 4 stars ... but I'm 'rounding down' in this case because of the short comings of 'information' which is key the customer experience and because of the higher cycle counts, with default settings straight out-of-the-box. There is a huge potential for users to experienced utility bill shock with this thing. Pros: Clean modern looking yet traditional design facets. Beautiful display that is nicely formatted Great button layout Easy, guided physical installation with the mobile app A mobile app that isn't cluttered, ugly or hard to maneuver ... but Cons: A mobile app that doesn't do much in the way fully explaining the advanced settings and secondary & tertiary locations (physical manual and website) that lack even more details Temp sensor guard-bands that are too tight (or something else) that leads to too frequent of on cycles, with no numeric calibration settings provided; e.g., degrees C or F sensitivity Didn't come with a backing plate surround to cover up & beautify the area around the stat (this is like a 99 cent part to manufacture in volume) Not sure I can fully recommend the Sensi Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat at this time, so I'll answer the binary choice with 'No'. This really depends on the magnitude of the increase utility bill I expect and future firmware/settings updates to address performance AND the user experience.

You just can't beat these thermostats for a wifi programmable enabled device. It's a more traditional design and it simply works. It also plays well with Alexa. I've bought 3 for my house and my mom's. They have all worked great for several years.

It was very simple to install and connect to WiFi. The app is very intuitive and easy to use. This model was highly recommended by our HVAC technician and glad I purchased. Display is easy to read.
