I found this HP to be pretty fast at boot up, it has 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, with 16 GB Octane memory, 8th Generation Quad-Core I-7, 12 GB of Ram, NVidia 2 GB Video Geo Force MX 150 Card, CD-ROM drive, HDMI slot, SD Card Slot, 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, an USB-C port, Sound port, Bang & Olufsen speakers with great sound, a 17.3 Touch Screen, a numeric Key Pad. I had Best Buy set it up, with the Anti-Virus Software, and my Microsoft Office 365 Suite. This has been an awesome computer and beautiful silver body. I use it for Office, Adobe Creative Cloud apps web browsing. It has a network adapter as well. I feel this is a fine machine. I would recommend this computer.

I got this HP Laptop for almost 2 years & is excellent. It has so many functions including touch screen, powerful internet control, good connections and also CD player. Many other new laptops even at higher price doesn’t have CD player. The screen image is extremely good, I like a lot this HP Laptop 17.3 Touch screen!

I have always used HP, and have yet to be disappointed. After quite some use I can say this is the best laptop I have used hands down. Lets start with the design. The HP logo I believe is beautiful, it is not your HP logo that you would see on older HP laptops. The size of the laptop can be bit intimidating at first. It is a 17.3 laptop screen. The sheer size can also intimidating as it will make you think it is a heavy laptop, but on the contrary this laptop is not as heavy as it seems. I love the size of this laptop, as it gives me a bigger screen, and feels better. When you open the laptop it has a design where it actually lifts the back to give you an angle. This benefits for typing, and looking at the screen. The keyboard is back-lit when is a big plus for me. The screen is touchscreen which gives you the option to just click on the screen instead of using your mouse which at times is convenient. Overall this laptop passed my expectations, and I am loving using this laptop.

This computer has a big screen, which is great for watching videos on youtube and the keyboard is also nice and big. Easy to type on and still a pretty sleek design. I love the high speed processor as well. It has good quality sound and a fantastic picture quality. Very happy with this purchase.

As I removed this laptop from its box, I knew this was something extraordinary. Its sleek, thin, aluminum body on top, matching lightweight, hard, plastic bottom, and wide frame both looked and felt special in my hands. I couldn't wait to open this baby up, charge it, and explore all of its features. So, I set it down on my bedroom desk and plugged the power supply into my surge protected electrical strip for approximately two hours. As I opened up the laptop to check the amount of battery charge I noticed that the back of the screen frame had two hinges, which actually elevates the keyboard as it is opened. How cool is that? So, no more flat keyboard stressing my hands and wrists. The keyboard front face with track pad is also made of aluminum. I didn't use a protractor, so I am guessing the increase in keyboard angle is approximately 15 degrees. After two weeks of typing and editing my field, construction inspections and other documents, I absolutely love this elevated keyboard feature. WooHoo! I need a computer for my Home-Office use. Because of its sheer size, features, and power, this generously sized laptop makes a fantastic replacement for my home desktop system, which is not portable. Although the weight of this HP Envy laptop is just under 6.5 pounds, which is really lightweight, it is so wide that it gave me the impression it was much heavier. Not so. However, I must mention that the size and weight make it more of a portable 'desk-laptop' unit then traditional laptop. I can't take my desktop with me to an overnight motel stay when my job calls for inspections out of town. However, this baby can go where ever I need to go, and allows me to work on my reports that very same day, saving me valuable time to spend with my family instead. YooHoo! After several weeks of use these are the OUTSTANDING FEATURES I appreciate: * Tilted, angled keyboard for more comfortable typing. Reduces stress on my wrists and hands. * Numeric keypad for office spreadsheet and math calculations usage. * Sound – Most of the laptops I've ever listened too were infamous for 'tinny' sounding speakers. Here is where HP Envy is 'over-the-top' with Bang and Olufsen speakers. With the Bang and Olufsen Audio Control, you can adjust the level of treble along with bass and dialog clarity. Customize your speakers to be ALIVE! * Wide IPS, HD, Touch Screen, which allows me to open two pages of any of my documents on this generously-sized screen to work on, and, edit with Windows Ink (see attached pic.) I love it! * Outstanding Webcam with Microphone, which allows me to video conference with my family when I am out-of-town. I do not normally use the hotel / motel's Internet connection. Most of the time their bandwidth is too narrow, so I use my mobile smart phone as a router and Bluetooth my HP Envy Laptop to say hello and keep in touch on family news. * Entertainment – I enjoy the DVD/CD/RW player. It allows me to play purchased videos and CDs for home and away-from-home, road entertainment. Additionally, there is an HMDI connection, which allows me to connect to my home TV or most TVs on the road. Love it! * Generous Battery Power – HP says you can get 9.25 hours of use. The best I ever got was 7 hours of continued use, but I use lots of MS applications, plus DVD Vids, CD Sound, and Video Conferencing as a routine. * Fast processing of all my MS Office software applications. They load quickly and accurately. * Multitasking – Because of the 12 GB upper memory and 16 GB SSD, lower cache memory I can access any of my opened programs, documents, or data in expedited speeds compared to my older desktop. I can open all of the MS Office programs, E-mail, while browsing topics on the Internet with amazing speed. * Dedicated Video Memory – NVIDIA GeForce M150, 2GB, which gives me all the quality resolution I need for a home-office set-up. Pics and videos of the Grand Kids are fantastic. * Headphone / Microphone Combo Jack – One of the ports is a 3.5mm RCA Jack, which you can use to attach a headphone, mic, or auxiliary speaker(s). This is great if you want to expand and compliment the outstanding sound from your HP Envy Laptop' Bang and Olufsen speakers. * Memory – Intel Optane – Almost like AI ( Artificial Intelligence) It 's intuitive intelligence understands your daily computing routine and increases the performance to match. WoW! * Auxiliary Ports – There is a generous number of ports, 3 USB Type 3.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 Type 'C', 3.1 port, 3.5mm RCA Jack, and SD Card Reader. * MU-MIMO – This HP Envy laptop uses the latest Wi-Fi technology, 802.11ac protocol, which is dedicated to fast, Wi-Fi response for your devices. This laptop screams speeds to my router! * HP Envy's Keyboard – It is lighted, and, you can turn the lighting 'OFF' if desired. My issue with the silver keyboard and silver keys is that they are difficult to recognize with the muted lettering on the keys, especially in low level lighting. However, you can adjust the level of back lighting of the keys to compensate for lower light levels. * Security – You can use the proprietary facial or fingerprint reader as the access point to your HP Envy. And, or, you can still use a password or PIN number if you wish. I am super-impressed with this laptop-portable-desktop-replacement, HP Envy Laptop. If your needs are a home / office set-up, this is the one for you. It is fast and powerful, packed with productivity and entertainment features too. I highly recommend this HP - Envy 17.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 12GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce MX150 - 1TB Hard Drive - HP Finish In Natural Silver, Model 17M-BW0013DX. I am happy that this is an excellent replacement for my bulky desktop unit with many more features, processor power, and speed to do all the things I want. I can use this laptop for my home-office-entertainment while at home, or, on the go away from home too. Outstanding!

This is a full mobile desktop replacement is the best I can say. A laptop with a decent graphics engine; of all things an actual DVD-RW Drive; 7200 RPM 1TB HD; 16GB optane chip that improves OS startup speeds and read speeds to seconds; a beautiful almost all Aluminum body with fantastic etching; fairly lightweight given the specs and screen size; super efficient and speedy CPU; relatively comfortable external temperatures even after light gaming and video editing; numerous inputs and output connections; speedy WiFi card; outrageous room filling speakers; a great hinged screen design to allow for better laptop cooling and better keyboard angle and wow a fingerprint reader. The Envy uses a drop-hinge design that raises the back end of the laptop when the display is open, promoting better airflow for cooling and raising the keyboard to a comfortable angle for typing. The drop hinge makes the Envy a bit uncomfortable to use on your lap. But because of their size, 17-inch systems tend to be used on tables and desks more frequently, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. The 2GB graphics card is plenty fast enough for most games at lower frame rate settings, excellent for all other graphics needs including video editing. The laptop runs relatively cool and while not very comfortable on one’s bare lap or leather cover furniture due to the sharp edges of the hinge. I personally do not think this should be an issue as these laptops are designed to be used mostly on solid surfaces or if on laps then I would assume they should be used with a portable laptop desk. The battery life given the size of the screen, cpu and standalone graphics card is off the chart. I easily got in excess of 7 plus hours consisting of light gaming, heavy basic computer web browsing, reading and writing emails, video editing and video chats. The fingerprint reader works very well once you take the time to setup the initial scan and you might need to have to do this several times but once done properly, it is pretty flawless. The loading time with the 16GB optane memory chip makes for significantly faster times and better read performance. The WiFi chip is speedy and has great pickup range in my house. Everything about this laptop from quality of the build and the materials, the subtle etchings, weight, speed, graphics, speakers, coolness of the running temperatures, the backlight keyboard, the touchscreen responsiveness, and the overall layout is TOP NOTCH. LASTLY THE PRICE IS FANTASTIC I have included a screen shot of the hinges design and the box specs.

I have recently acquired this new HP 17 inch laptop and boy does it leave quite the impression. I have spent a few days with it and overall I must say this is one heck of a device. This HP Envy laptop has everything one could want. I will list the pros and cons and then give my impressions and thoughts. Pros: - Full HD Screen (Touchscreen) - Full sized backlit keyboard - Built in finger print reader - Premium speakers (Bang & Olufsen) - Generous amount of USB ports (4 ports, 3 USB 3.0, 1 USB 3.1) - 2GB Nvidia MX 150 graphics card - 1TB HDD 7200 RPM not ssd fast but sufficient - 12GB DDR4 RAM - 8th gen Intel i7 Coffee Lake Quad Core (8 thread CPU) - Optical drive - Dual Band Wireless AC (2.4 & 5GHZ wifi) - Solid hinge (it is sturdy and elevates when opened to improve thermal performance) Cons: - Battery life is average (6.5 hrs - 7 hrs mixed usage) - Windows Ink - No easy access to upgrade HDD This laptop is nothing short of amazing, it has so much to offer. The fingerprint reader is on the right side near the DVD drive in a great location and works fast every time without fail (you can register multiple fingerprints). The speakers are great and I don't put it above 50% even while my air conditioner is on I can hear the speakers. The specs alone are more than most would consumers would need. It has the latest Intel i7 8th gen cpu which can handle anything you throw at it with ease as long as you change your power settings to "best performance" and you will want to be connected to the ac adapter. 12GB of DDR4 ram is great, Nvidia MX 150 is great and I can play Left 4 Dead 2 in high settings over wifi thanks to the wireless ac card built in. The keyboard keys have a good feel to it and do not stick, they have great travel for speed and accuracy. It may take a little getting used to if you are coming from a 13 in laptop because devices like that don't always offer full sized keyboards. The only issue I have had so far is that I am unable to find a supported active stylus for this device. I have tried two styluses but they did not work. I really want to test out windows ink on this device but could not . I did use the passive styluses with the rubber tip but it will not provide the kind of experience you will want while taking notes or drawing. Overall this is a phenomenal full sized device with all the bells and whistles. I just can't get over how amazing this laptop really is. This laptop may not be for everyone due to its size but for those who have vision problems like myself I can appreciate the screen real estate. The sheer power this machine offers is well worth the price of admission. This device is deserving of the Envy moniker.

    Mine is bigger than yours….

Mine is bigger than yours…. Other than the super-sized gaming laptops that push 10 pounds, this laptop is “King of the Hill” (or “Queen of the Castle” if you prefer). Other reviews from more educated folks go into the technical details, which are interesting to some but mostly I was interested in whether this laptop looks good, performs well, and is reasonably light enough to carry around from home to office and go on the road for visits and vacation traveling. Looks good? This machine shows well with a very nice brushed aluminum body and smooth lines. There is an accent trim at the back hinge, which adds to the sleek appearance. Overall a very nice look without a lot of billboard logos and brand-name engraving. You want a different look? Lots of inexpensive skins are available online so google a few and customize to your heart’s content. Me, I put my college logo on and that’s all I need to satisfy. Performs Well? Newest Intel laptop processor, plenty of RAM, large hard drive, and probably the best feature is the “Optane” system to boost the 7200-rpm hard drive performance. Originally, I was wondering why HP would put a spinning platter hard drive in a new model machine when solid state drives have dropped in price, but after using this laptop for a few days and running some performance benchmarks, I have to say the new “Optane” card that goes in the M.2 slot is an excellent design decision that keeps the cost down for the laptop while providing speedy performance and large storage capacity. Running a CrystalDiskMark benchmark and comparing this laptop to my desktop, which has a Samsung 840 PRO SSD, the laptop’s read speed surprisingly OUTPERFORMED the 840 PRO by a wide margin! (see attached results). The write speed of the laptop was lower, but that’s not an issue as the read speed is what opens programs and keeps the computer running smoothly. In real-world terms: Is the laptop “snappy” when starting up and opening programs? YEP! Boot time is 14 seconds from power-on to the welcome screen and then maybe 30 more seconds for the system to fully boot and "settle down" after swiping the fingerprint scanner... I have a buncha little desktop gadgets (Addgadgets & Rainmeter) and 5 cloud drives + MS OneNote and MS Teams that start up with the system boot, so that prolongs the startup time for all the gadgets and gizmos and drives to start up. A “clean” boot without all the additional stuff would be 30 seconds, tops. Side-by-side the Envy’s “Optane” system is pretty much the same snappiness when opening programs and browsing as my i5/SSD desktop system, so what's not to like about that? Reasonable Portability? How heavy is too heavy? Along with a large hunk of laptop real estate like this one, there is weight to consider. Compared to my little 2.45 lb. Pixelbook, this laptop is considerably heavier at 6.41 lbs. Compared to a bowling ball, this laptop is considerably lighter. Is this something you want to carry around with you all day while hiking or climbing stairs to the top of the Eiffel Tower? Probably not – maybe take your phone instead? Is this something you can carry out to the car, carry in to work, or take along when traveling or visiting friends? Absolutely no problem! If I want portability, there are phones and tablets and Chromebooks and small 2-in-1 laptops. If I want to sit down for a while and do some serious work, nothing is nicer (to me) than a full-sized keyboard with a nice big readable screen. Just my opinion and your mileage may vary, but I’m tired of hunching over a mini-machine and squinting at a mini-screen when I’m not around my home desktop – this honkin’ big laptop is well worth the few extra pounds in transit and gives me plenty of room to pitch a tent and spread out comfortably. Bonus features! *Quarter acre touchpad - Wow the touchpad is just shy of 2.5 x 4.5 inches (smallish 3x5 card) plenty roomy and not the squeezed down little post-it note size that cramps your fingers when using for extended periods. *Fingerprint reader – First one of those I have had and don’t know about the other ones, but one touch of the fingertip and I’m logged in… excuse me but that’s just too cool! *CD/DVD player (and burner) – What to do with all those CDs & DVDs you have bought over the years? Quit fighting with the kids and let them have the TV for gaming while you use those sound-isolating Bluetooth earbuds and watch your favorite movies (or catch a few tunes) that have been collecting dust in the cabinet drawers. Audio jack also available for that nice headset you haven’t used in a while. *Bang & Olufsen Audio speakers – In case the dog ate your Bluetooth earbuds (that’s another story), you can fire up a nice set of built-in speakers. I’m no audiophile, but the better half stuck her head in the office door and asked me to turn them down as she could hear it in the kitchen… what does that tell you? *Plugs and connections galore! Hook up an external monitor, a TV, a set of speakers, a USB thingamajig, charge your phone, whaddever you got there is a plug for it and another plug to spare when you get done. *SD Card Slot – been a while for me but the photo buffs might like having one of these handy. Standard sized SD Card so you can write the programs for your Raspberry Pi or Arduino or pull the videos off your GoPro or Drone without have to plug in an adapter. *Doubles as a nifty serving tray! Seriously, I was carrying this through the house and got this sudden image of a waiter carrying a serving tray. No kidding, this thing can be used to serve breakfast in bed! *Future Proof – Hey if you want to go crazy a year or two down the road and put in a honkin’ big SSD and toss in a super-speed M.2 PCIe NVMe drive when the prices come down, you are good to go. The CPU, motherboard, and up-to-date connections are there if you get the itch and want to spend the money. Look, you are either tired of being a hipster trying to look cool using a squeezed-down super-mini micro-machine with all the bells and whistles but a screen and keyboard that give you eye strain, finger cramps, and a sore back from hunching over, or you are not. If you are ready to “go retro” and enjoy a nice big laptop with plenty of room for your fingers to stretch out and a nice big screen for your viewing pleasure – here you go! As a teacher, I look forward to my first faculty meeting in a few weeks when I sit next to my buddies with their little postage-stamp sized Surface Pros and casually plunk down this dominating chunk of hardware. Full sized keyboard, nice big screen for tired old eyes, and plenty of horsepower to get the job done and then some. I will watch those next to me hunched down over their little 2-in-1 devices and be able to give a little smile and modestly observe that “Mine is bigger than yours!” … Bada Boom & LOL.

HP and the ENVY line are known for great build quality, and good looks. This 17.3" desktop replacement is no different. So upon opening the box you will be greeted by a rather thick piece of protective foam, under this you will find the Laptop and to the right you will have a smaller black box which contains the power cables. Its a pretty basic unboxing. The laptop is made from aluminum and looks really nice. Along the back edge of the laptop screen it has a pattern that looks like oil slick. It looks really neat and give the laptop a break from the basic silver looks. On the front of the laptop you dont have anything when the lid is closed, on the right side you have the fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello, you also get something you dont find often any more and thats a DVDRW drive, shame it not Blu-ray as DVD is becoming yesteryear. On the left side you get your lock, Thunderbolt port, HDMI port, combo headphone and mic port, 2 USB ports and the LAN connector. the rear of the until has nothing other than the design. Functionality wise i love this laptop. As you open the lid the base of the laptop will elevate slightly from the back to give you a much more comfortable typing experience than just laying flat. The keyboard has a nice amount of travel with its keys and its also backlit. The mouse pointer is fast and precise and also a good size which makes it a breeze to use multi gestures. Form is also impressive as this is a large laptop but its manageable. Weighing in at a hair under 6.5lbs while its heavy its not too heavy to use daily and move around. Whats also nice is even though it does come equipped with a DVD drive the laptop is still less than 1" thick with the lid closed, its very sleek. The screen is nice. It's 1080P and looks really good. the screen is a glossy IPS panel and has some great viewing angles. Its also pretty bright. Performance on this is superb. As this is the new 8th generations of the Intel Core i7 you get true quad core processing which is a big boost over the older 7th gen which were dual core still. Performance of the new quad setup is evident when using in different applications. With 12gb of DDR4 ram it helps with multi tasking and such and doesnt get bogged down at all. last night i was editing video while exporting i was also watching YouTube and clicking through 8 Chrome tabs with no issues. It will also play games on lower settings so you can play Fortnite on this system as it has the NVIDIA GeForce MX150, though it is the 2gb version and not the 4gb. The sound from the Laptop is surprisingly good, while lacking some depth it is loud and clear, it still has some depth, just not a lot. The system is quiet and doesnt seem to get hot at all, battery is ok, not going to blow you away by any means but is adequate. If you are looking for a portable desktop solution that you can do some light gaming on, maybe some video and photo editing and otherwise just media consumption with daily tasks then this will be perfect for you and i do highly recommend it.

I have only had this laptop for 2 days and it has already become my favorite. The touchscreen is amazing, especially when you want to zoom in on something. The zoom is crystal clear also, no pixelating. The setup was super easy. The battery life is great. Although I did notice if you choose to use the lighted keyboard feature the battery drains almost twice as fast, so be aware. I love that the top row of buttons (F1-F12) also have other functions: adjust screen brightness; turn on/off keyboard light; mute volume; volume up/down; play controls and airplane mode. Its super convenient. I also noticed that the color saturation is much better than my prior laptop, and it never gets super hot either. All around a great purchase!

It is tough to find a top-performing laptop with a touch screen for less than $1200. I was surprised that HP introduced a higher-end laptop that could purportedly meet these needs for most users. However, after comparing this model to past models, I am a little perplexed. Normally in reviews I list different categories I like to discuss, such as performance, build quality, etc; but in this case, my review of this laptop is more illustrative if I compare it to previous models. The only differences I could see between this laptop and last year’s versions was an added hard drive accelerator, 4 GB less of RAM (previously was 16 GB) and 2 GB of graphics card RAM (was 4 GB). There may be more differences, but I found it hard to accurately compare the 4 very similar laptop models on the website since the key specifications were inconsistently filled in. I did have two issues with the design. First, since the bottom body panels are not one piece and the design angles inward, a noticeable ridge is formed, creating a rough edge. At this price point, I would expect HP to hide this edge and make it feel smoother and thus more luxurious. Second, since the bottom panel angles inward, the USB peripherals do not sit flush and instead protrude outward (see photo). Pros Huge 17.3-inch touch screen with great resolution High-end processor with 12 GB of memory Good graphics card with 2 GB of memory Long battery life for the size Cons Gap in bottom panel Backlit keyboard is on/off only (no dimming option) Extra gap with external peripherals due to design No SSD drive (but 16 GB of SSD cache really helps the hard drive work faster) Heavy at 6.4 pounds Even though this is a great computer, I believe a couple of the other similar HP computers are a better value, and therefore I find it hard to recommend this laptop. I would be more willing to recommend this version with the decreased RAM if HP offered a SSD drive instead of a hybrid SATA (1TB) paired with a 16 GB SSD.

This is the BEST BUY you can probably get on a Windows 10 PC without getting a desktop PC. Now this computer is not for everyone. It has a 17" screen and that means it is pretty big and somewhat heavy. Now, I say heavy, this is comparing it to the Mac Air or Microsoft Surface Notebooks. If you were to compare it to a 2010 model Mac Book Pro...it is about the same weight, but with a much bigger screen. This also has CD/DVD rom, 3 USB ports and 1 USB-C (v1) port, ethernet (RJ45) and HDMI ports. As far as computing power.... you can read those in the specs. It does have a PCIe 16Gb SSD and a 1TB HHD. Quite the combo. What this does, it does well. The load speeds are faster, due to the SSD and has pretty good storage, more than I ever will use. For the price I paid for this, it was almost 1/3 the cost of other systems with comparable specs. I use this sitting in my recliner and LOVE it. This would also be well suited on a desk as a replacement of a desktop computer. If you plan to sit around and use it as a laptop, then this is the one for you! If you plan to have something that you take EVERYWHERE, then you might want to pick something that is lighter and easier to pack in a backpack. BUT, if you want something to take on a weekend trip or vacation and plan to only use it in the hotel...this is still my choice! Hope this helps you with your decision. For me, the BEST laptop at the BEST price and fits my needs to a tee.
