Epson RR-70W is a super portable, battery operated, fast, compact and lightweight machine targeted for anyone who needs the scanner during travel or for quick scanning functionality.
What is included: Epson RR-70w, micro-USB cable, cleaning sheet, calibration sheet, user manual or quick guide.
Setup: Setup is very simple, unpack the plastic and plug it in to usb charger (not included) to charge the battery. You can also connect directly to your computer/laptop using the provided usb cable and download the required drivers from Epson site. Once the software is downloaded, it detects the scanner and updates the firmware. Once ready its easy to scan. This is manual sheetfed scanner and does not support ADF and is designed for capturing your receipts, single sheet of financial documents, checks, business card. Once the wireless setup is completed, it automatically connects to your computer without the cable and is very accurate, lightweight (measures 1.5X 10.7x 2 inches at 11 ounces). With the inbuilt battery, this is very compact and will fit in laptop bag or ladies’ purse without any issues.
There are very few buttons on this scanner. Wi-Fi toggle switch, Wi-Fi AP (access point), Power toggle and scan button. There is a small LED on the side that displays status and the LCD that displays the battery status, connection status. On the side, mini-USB port for charging the battery and to connect to computer directly.
I still have issues connecting to the iOS app when the laptop is switched on which is little annoying. Scansmart software that is included is very good for scanning receipts. Once the receipts are scanned, it automatically identifies and extract the data into their respective fields for quick search. It does allow you to edit all fields according to your category if required and save it to different formats like CSV or pdf. It automatically saves vendors name and great for accounting purposes. Its fast and works as advertised to scan 4 seconds per page or 15 pages per minute.
Overall, very happy with this compact, wireless (Wi-Fi), battery operated, space saving, fast, accurate machine with great software that organizes data.
Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for portable scanning on the move.

A Good scanner but with some limitations

The Epson - RapidReceipt RR-70W Wireless Mobile Receipt and Color Document Scanner is one of two portable receipt scanners released by Epson late last year with the other one being the RapidReceipt RR-60W. Both function the same save for the fact that the RR-70W has built in WiFi and a battery.
It is a sheet fed scanner so scanning books is out of the question. It has a rated speed of four pages per minute but upon use it seems to be six to eight pages per minute. Pretty fast in my opinion. It is a sleek scanner which is around a foot long, with a height and width of 1 ½ inches and almost two inches. And it weighs a little over half a pound. It is very portable indeed.
The RR-70W can either be connected via WiFi or through a micro-USB cable. Setting up the scanner via USB is as simple as installing the drivers from the Epson website and you can use practically any scanning software out there since it is a TWAIN compliant scanner.
Setting it up via WiFi is a different issue altogether. It took me several attempts to connect this via WiFi but found out later that you need to connect to a 2.4Ghz connection which the online manual does not indicate. And while this may be good for the most part, it will show its limitations if you use the scanner in a different location. Also, you can use a direct connection from your computer to the scanner but this will also limit you since you have to disconnect from your current WiFi connection. And in my experience I could not setup a direct connection to my computer whether it was manual, WPS or through PIN. The only way to connect is via USB. But that negates the value of WiFi. For this I am removing one star.
Arguably, the strongest point of this scanner is the included software. Most scanners especially those found in All-In-One printers have third-party software which are either limited in use, a trial version or simply usable in only one computer. The companion software for this is from Epson and it is not a trial version and can be installed in several computers. The OCR capabilities included are top-notch as you can export to MS Office files and also has capabilities to export to accounting software for receipts. (Unfortunately, I do not have accounting software so I was not able to test this. But exporting to MS Office is great as well as the usual PDF and JPG files.
If WiFi is not as important to you, I would consider the RR-60W as it is cheaper. But in spite of the RR-70’s flaws, having wireless is still a boon for productivity.

The Epson RR-70W Wireless Receipt Scanner is lightweight and packed with the latest technology, making it a real asset to your business or for personal use. Out of the box it is extremely easy to set up. It does require an internet connection to download the installation and scanning software that is included. One good thing that I’d like to point out is that it has an internal rechargeable battery. The USB cord is included, and is used to charge the scanner and to connect it to your Windows based computer, or to your MAC, as it is compatible with both.
The scanner has the following buttons, lights and ports:
1. Mini USB port - used to charge the scanner and to connect it to Windows or Mac based computers or laptops and it makes it portable so you can carry with you.
2. On/Off switch
3. The Scan button - allows one touch scanning.
4. The battery light- the light shows the battery life.
5. The Wireless lights - shows when you are connected to WiFi and to a smartphone or tablet
6. The Ready light - shows when the scanner is ready to scan
7. The guide - shows you where to insert the paper or receipt
8. The WiFi button - turns the WiFi off or on
9. The connect to WiFi button
The features include ultra fast receipt scanning and receipt management, as well as invoice scanning and management. The software included allows you to upload the receipts with Intuit QuickBooks, Quicken, TurboTax, Microsoft Excel and more, which is a real plus. PDF software is also included, allowing you to quickly scan, extract and export invoices and receipts. The software, at 300 dpi, saves the scanned invoices at a rate of 15 pages per minute. It’s fast and portable. With the included USB cord and the internal rechargeable battery, going mobile is simple and fast. Scanning is simple and wireless. The wireless feature allows you to connect to your smartphone or tablet, both Android based and iOS based. Wireless setup is simple and doesn’t require a lot of technical knowledge. During setup, it automatically detects your wireless network and fills in your password for your wireless network. It also has a contact image censor, which extracts contact data from your receipts and invoices and makes them searchable. This feature of the software is great and saves a lot of time. I do recommend this wireless receipt scanner for any size business and for personal use. This is a great way to keep up with your receipts for tax purposes. We are so happy with this scanner! My husband operates his own small business, and I handle the financial side of it. He often has to buy materials and equipment before and during his jobs, and receipts easily get misplaced. That is why we LOVE this Epson receipt scanner. It makes scanning receipts, invoices, documents, etc SUPER quick and easy. Because of it's wireless capability and being mobile, my husband has started taking it with him on jobs so that he can scan his receipts as soon as he gets back to his truck.
The set up of this scanner could not have been easier! We took it out of the box, charged it, installed the app, and we were ready for action! My husband loves that he operates it easily with the app on his phone, so there's no need to hook up to the desktop. Epson, thank you so much for making our lives easier! I am a sole proprietor of my own resale business. I must purchase inventory on a regular basis and must be on top of all my accounting. I literally had twelve envelopes that were jam packed with all my receipts for 2020 alone. I was really stressing out about having to go through every receipt one by one with tax time being here. I am beyond relieved now that I can use the Epson RR-70W Scanner.
I love that I can use it through an app on my phone, on my laptop or on my desk top computer. This makes it super versatile. I literally bring it with me when I go out shopping. It only weighs around 11 ounces, so I grab my cell phone in one hand and my Epson RR-70W Scanner in the other hand. It is beyond convenient to immediately scan a receipt when I leave a store or a gas station. I no longer must worry about losing the actual paper receipts. When you scan it in its lightning-fast speed, and you will immediately see your document on your phone or computer. It even comes with free receipt management software. Epson takes it even one step further and lets you choose how to organize your receipts by choosing to open it in a variety of ways.
The Epson Rapid Receipt RR-70W is an absolute game changer for me and a lifesaver for my business. In the short time I have had it my life is already simplified, and my stress level is lessened. It is light weight, convenient, super portable, lightning fast, and will help you put order into your life. You can use it to scan anything you would like. It will even get rid of any blank pages that you happen to scan by mistake. So far, I have used it to scan my personal and business receipts, invoices, bills, bank statements, as well as life insurance policies and other important documents. Epson - RapidReceipt RR-70W Wireless Mobile Receipt and Color Document Scanner
This Epson RR-70W is a fast and compact scanner.
Set up was pretty straight forward but I would say the instructions could be better.
The scanner is very fast and does a very nice job of recognizing the images and text it scans.
Connection through USB works great. You can either press the start button on the scanner or open up smart scan app and initiate from the software. Once you scan a piece into the software you have a choice to do the following:
Save
Attach to email
Send to Dropbox
Send to Evernote
Manage Invoices/Receipts
Print
Save to Word
Save to Excel
Save to PowerPoint
Send to OneDrive
So, as you see you have a variety of options.
I personally use the Manage Invoices/Receipts. This option pulls in the receipt and captures data such as Total, Tax, tip etc. It does good job pulling in the dollar amounts etc. and also gives you the ability to add and edit before saving.
What I really like is the added software that comes with this scanner (Which helps justify the cost). Don’t miss the postcard size card with download instructions and serial number that comes in the box. This is pretty powerful PDF software. My default now. It does a nice job with OCR. You can covert a PDF to Word, Excel and more. Great software for the toolbox.
I would have liked to see some instructions on this software and how best used in conjunction with the scanner and its interface.
I did have some trouble connecting over Wi-fi though. I would turn on, insert my document and press the scan button and would just bet blinking lights. I believe this was due to my laptop connection to my 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
This scanner and your device (computer or mobile) must hook up to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. I even had to look up my router documentation to find out how to disable 5 GHz temporarily to get this connected properly. My router attempts to connect my devices to 5GHz by default so it will be interesting to see if I will continue to have a connection issue.
Once connected to 2.4GHz I found I need to power up the scanner and wait a bit until I get the pop up message on my laptop that says scanner is connected to Wi-Fi. Then if I press the start button it seems to work fine.
I would say if Wi-Fi is not a must and/or don’t mind the USB cord then you perhaps want to save the money and go with the RR-60 model. Plug in and scan. Less hassle.
Other than the Wi-fi issue, this unit has helped me clear up some paperwork and organize now and into the future.

Tax time is always a beast, but the Epson RapidReceipt 70-W model is a godsend. Setup was super easy. I plugged it in, connected to the network, typed in the site for drivers and updates, and was off to the races in about five minutes. Connection was quick and painless, and the wireless connectivity suits my needs perfectly. I was able to scan receipts from my office in front to the computer in back and not walk back and forth lugging storage boxes or trying to locate the right files.
Scanning itself was super easy, and there was no fiddling or extra care required to feed the receipts. I scanned receipts of all shapes and sizes, from store register receipts to perforated side-tear receipts to full 8 x 11 sheets. I was worried because I had a couple receipts that weren’t in the best shape, and figured I’d have to skip those, but I tried one and it went through just as quickly as all the others.
Instead of driving over to hand my tax professional an accordion folder (or two) full of paper clipped receipts, I just shot her a link to all my husband’s and my receipts, neatly organized by household, vehicle, education, retirement and such. I was also able to scan the signature documents from my phone to print, sign, and send back. I loved that I didn’t have to go into the office and was able to do everything electronically. 600dpi max optic resolution is impressive in such a small footprint, but not surprising from Epson. They really do document and photo imaging with precision.
You can use the micro usb cable (I wish it was USB-C in 2021, but maybe next generation) to connect directly to a computer, or connect wirelessly via Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) (2 ways, add it to your network, or wifi-direct where the scanner creates a wifi network that you connect to, and THEN can scan to wirelessly with the Epson DocumentScan app). I had not trouble briefly testing both, but prefer the wifi-direct method.
Auto feeds like a champ, about 10-15 pages a min or 4 seconds a scan. Export scans to editable and searchable PDFs, or JPG, or use the receipt management software to extract data via OCR, then export to QuickBooks, TurboTax, Excel, etc. It's really a powerful scanning device, with a rechargeable battery - no extra power cord needed!
Other than using dated bluetooth, wifi, and usb connectors - this is a great portable scanner.
Let's hope the next version brings the technology commensurate with the times.

Bought this as an upgrade for the Neat scanner that I’d had for years that stopped working. In some ways it’s better, it can scan faster, higher quality, colors, is wireless, the software is better (I didn’t use the Neat suite - just as a scanner to computer)
Because its wireless it shuts off intermittently and you have to keep switching it back on if you’re not using it constantly. It also sometimes just disconnects from Bluetooth periodically between different file scans so you have to go back and relocate it in the connection window.
As it is more advanced, finding the balance of quality/file size/speed takes some time but is worth it if you sometimes need high quality color scans or just quick receipt scanning capability.

This epson scanner is a nice size. I like how you can take it with you on the go. The wireless feature is a nice option. Also being able to use it with the USB cord is nice. Makes scanning a lot easier. Set up was a bit challenging at first. Finally got it to work. Scans smoothly and not as loud as I was expecting it to be. This has a quick scan and it loads to your computer fast. I also really enjoy the fact it has a app for your phone. So you can scan and have it go there. This scanner is light weight. Doesn't take long to charge which is nice if your in a hurry. One simple push of a button and your scanning documents and receipts.
