Great Scanner fo Macs; Some Features are Complex

The Epson-ES-300WR represents the current state-of-the-art in scanning technology. The software Epson includes gave me goosebumps as I witnessed how far OCR has come. It’s been quite a few years since I last tried to unravel the mess older iterations of this technology made trying to parse words and numbers from scanned documents into editable documents. Erase those memories. This is different. SETUP: Requires opening the top cover to expose the paper feed and the POWER Button and plugging in the power cord and USB 3.0 cable (if you are making a WIRED connection to your computer). This portable is wireless, also, with the ability to connect to your network or create a wireless link to a single device. (I didn’t test this with my Mac) There is a built-in rechargeable battery. It’s very easy to scan at client locations. Completing the installation took a few minutes. After a sample scan, I was given the opportunity to save the files (depending on image format chosen) as a PDF, JPEG, PNG, Bitmap, TIFF or searchable PDF or create either an editable WORD or EXCEL (and Powerpoint only in Windows) file type. If you choose either WORD or EXCEL, you are directed to install those APP conversion files In the SETTINGS MENU. You can select other SAVE locations including “Evernote”, email, “DropBox”, a Cloud Drive, Epson’s “Receipt Manager”, etc. PERFORMANCE: Double sided (duplex) scanning begins when you press the button, but watch out for a paper cut, ‘cause this scanner is fast. And, it’s silent. Despite the small size, there is a paper feed that unfolds like origami, and it should handle 20 pages. My first test scan was a government document, with two columns, dates, numbers, titles, and footnotes. In the past, I would never do anything other than save as a PDF. This time, I selected “SAVE AS WORD DOCUMENT” and sure enough I got a saved .docx file. Opening MS WORD, there was my form . . in every way available for editing . . in every way replicating the text in columns . . . in every way allowing me to change titles, or footnotes or numbers. The only flaw? The unique icons used at some subsections were converted into letters, which of course, could be edited as needed. I tried the same thing with a page of mutual funds and associated values. But this time, I asked for an EXCEL file. This didn’t fare so well. My sample output struggled with indents and aligning numbers as it selected columns and rows to fill. I was going to need to do some work. (You could also use other OCR software.) Switching to a collection of photographs, they were scanned quickly and I was given the choice of creating PDFs or JPEGS or TiFF. Image detail and color quality appeared fine and a variety of save parameters can be modified. A range of photo-centric parameters can be modified in the SETTING MENU to solve color, contrast, resolution, gamma or other problems with your originals. The front face of the scanner has a dedicated slot for BUSINESS CARDS (plastic, cardboard) and it can parse addresses, names, phone and email using its included software and it recognizes Mac’s CONTACTS. Well, I'm still working to integrate the pieces, 'cause these software elements are confusing. The instructions for the CARD SCAN software could be easier to find and use. SUMMARY: This version of EPSON’s scanner collection is portable, easy to setup and easy to use for the more typical features (documents//OCR/pictures). [Note to Epson: It’s portable . . please include a simple case.] The idea of scanning documents to subsequently edit is completely practical, because you don’t need to undo OCR errors in most text documents. More complex numerical scans will probably require more effort, although my short ownership period may be the fault here. If you’re archiving photos or documents, this is as close to flawless as a scanner can get. Some features could use updates and/or better instructions. I can recommend this EPSON scanner, but there is a steeper than necessary learning curve for some features.

This portable scanner is the perfect companion for the business traveler who required to scan documents on the go. It has compact design that can fit in portable computer travel bags along with the rest of work tools. I was amazed how fast this thing scan being battery operated it also support double side scan. You can use it any where any time as long as the battery has juice, if not just plug it up using the USB cable or A/C adapter. A/C adapter is dual voltage by the way for those Int’l travelers, universal plug is not included. Great quality build and it has a nice compact design. This thing is great for scanning documents, receipts, IDs, even business cards thanks to the switch selector on top of the scanner. The software (download) for the windows 10 is very good, loaded with lots of features, the phone app was very straight forward. You can save files in various different format such as: PDF, email, Image, Word, Excel, Evernote, PowerPoint, Dropbox, and Google Drive and few others. Scanner can be use via USB, Wi-Fi network, or Wi-Fi direct connect. One thing I did notice that some parts of the scanner are very fragile such as the two wings that support the palate and the paper tray. I also had few issues for instance when some of the documents were not properly lined up they will get stuck, when that happened I had to shut down the app, and the scanner and re-start again. Overall this this scanner is excellent for what it was meant to do, and it does it in a very efficient way. In the box includes the Scanner, USB cable and the power adapter. Pros: Portability Fast Scanning Light weight Double Side Scanning Wireless Cons: Some fragile parts

I think this review will be quick and easy. I picked up this scanner for my workplace because the other scanners are old and slow, I have too much to do to wait on antique technology. This portable scanner is compact and light, doesn't take up any room at all. Installation instructions were easy to follow and understand for the most part, doing the wireless install didn't work out for me because the ssid never appeared on my list of available networks. I double-checked to see if I missed something, but I couldn't identify any error from my side of things. No big deal, the usb install went perfectly. For my daily tasks, it's flawless. Great job, Epson.

I spent the day testing this scanner and I can confidently say it is amazing. I had no idea that a product such as a battery powered scanner was available. This Epson ES 300WR blew my mind. It is small, light, fast and can scan both sides of the document at the same time. Which is exactly what I needed in a travel scanner. I highly recommend this product.

This is my first wireless and portable rechargeable scanner where I can use it on the go without needing to a PC or hone wifi, although I have Epson WorkForce all in one printer but this scanner is way easier to sacn documents from multiple devices wirelessly and independently ranging frim PC,Mac and smartphones and tablets, I use Apple products so I just download Eposn Documnetscan fron app store and that is it. Setup is super easy, first you need to follow steps indicated in the user manual and link the sacnner either usb cable or wireless “wifi or AP mode”for fast connection use WPS on router to connect to it if you have that option on your router otherwise download the app and search for scanner using Wifi or AP mode that connects to the scanner without needing to a local wifi. Smart and fast 20 page auto documnet feeder . It has cloud you set up an account to scan and save into cloud, also has a usb port that is convenient. Scan domunts and business card has a small slot on the side.

I got this scanner because my wife and I have a LOT of receipts that we need to get organized and this scanner seemed to be a good choice based upon its brand reputation, my prior experience with Epson, the speed at which it would scan documents and the software that came with it allowing for easy filing and sorting of scanned documents. My main trepidation was setting the software up because reading previous reviews of scanners in general it seemed it could be quite difficult. Although I am very computer savvy, at my age I don't like wasting a lot of my limited free time fooling with configuration issues and I'm sure many of you out there do not either. The scanner arrived and out of the box I was impressed with just how small it was. This is a very small footprint. The instructions were pretty much idiot proof across the board using pictures to guide you. The only question I had was pulling out the "ears" that hold the back of the paper was not really shown too well and I had to look at it for a few minutes before I figured out how to pull them up to set it up correctly. Once that was done connecting it to my wi-fi was quite easy using the app. No problems whatsoever and way easier than 99% of everything else I have setup like this. So if you're worried about this being a bear of a setup, worry no more as it is quite easy. Using the scanner is great, it has PDF software included that is quite good and when you scan documents you can setup a certain folder for everything to go to. Of course there are a variety of methods to use to store documents in but I think including the default de-facto standard of PDF is a good one. Scanning is incredibly fast, to the point of, as one reviewer said, watch out for a paper cut because once you feed this little guy the paper he will suck it in pretty quick. When the scanner scans the document it does both sides all at once which is great too. The scans come in very clear and you can edit them to a large degree within the PDF software included ("Power PDF"). This is a great scanner backed by a great company (I also use the Epson printer line and would recommend them as the printer of choice as well after using printers for over 30 years) and one that I would highly recommend if you are looking to take charge of some of your receipts or just, whatever you may need a scanner for. It is certainly not the cheapest one on the market at $399 but you get what you pay for and this scanner is well worth the price. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This scanner is small! Approximately the size of 2 boxes of spaghetti stacked on top of each other. Setup and software install took 10 minutes after an initial 2.5 hour charge time. Connected to WI-FI but couldn’t scan using the one-touch button on the machine. Switched to USB and worked perfectly. I’ll figure out the WI-FI problem later on but whether it works or not isn’t a huge concern to me personally. I scanned a full sheet and it zipped through in about 3 seconds. The scan opened on my desktop with a plethora of opening, saving and viewing options. The next item scanned was a long receipt. The thinner paper and the length of the receipt made it slightly more difficult to load in the guide and the first time I ran it through it didn’t track true. Second attempt yielded the same results so the scan was slightly tilted and the bottom corner was cut off. However, the scanner captured both sides of the receipt, recognized that it was a receipt and asked if I would like to discard the back side. Pretty cool. Then the software entered the date issued, tax, total and payment method in the appropriate fields and once again offered up many different methods of saving, viewing and exporting. Again, pretty cool. I own a small business and if I make an effort to use it, this will be a huge time saver and keep the center consol of my vehicle from overflowing with receipts. Almost deducted a star for the WI-FI issue and the crooked feed on long thin receipts but I don’t believe the first will be too difficult to fix and with practice I’ll figure out how to get longer receipts to feed properly. Even if I don’t, the capture worked fine on a slightly crooked image so no harm no foul.

I have used other Epson Scanners in the past including fast photo and all in one printer scanner fax machines. That being said, right out of the box I was interested in the prospect of having a portable scanner to take to jobs for use with my laptop. The WorkForce ES-300WR portable scanner is light compact and easy to use. Setup was easy to follow and I was up and running in just a few minutes. Connecting through WIFI makes this scanner very portable. Scanning multiple documents was fast even with different size original documents, receipts, and even business cards.. Single or 2 sided scanning was super-fast and very quiet. Battery life was impressive when traveling around to different jobsites. I would definitely recommend this scanner as quality, size, and battery life was all 5 star. The ease of use makes the WorkForce ES-300WR the right choice to organize your life! This is a review for the Epson WorkForce ES-300WR wireless scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Really nice scanner. It's so small, the pictures don't do it justice. I can carry it on a backpack without any problems. Setup was easy and scanning works really fast. It can scan documents and id's. It can do photos too, but there is another model more tailored for that, this one is more of a business/small office scanner. It can be powered even via usb and battery. I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone running a small business, or if you need to save documents, invoices on the go, or even at home/small office!

    Great Scanner!

Let me start of by saying that this scanner is amazing, it worked beyond my expectations. I am a known receipt and just over all “important” paper hog. So the convenience of scanning everything was great. I had a bulkier scanner which I would have to haul with me wherever I was going to need it. It was dreadful. But this Epson scanner is lightweight and the portability is just great. It is so easy to take with me, I already bought a special bag for it to take it in. I just love the small sleek design. I did have some trouble getting it all set up, but that was just my doing. I was trying on my iPhone, but I could not for the life of me figure it out. I then tried with my husbands Samsung phone, and easy peasy. So it was definitely not problems with the scanner, it was me. Once I got it all set up, I started scanning everything in my big olé pile. It is surprisingly fast and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Over all it is a great scanner, definitely recommended it. Love the compact ability and light features. Quailty. How fast the battery charges depends on the power source, and, like many other recent portable models, the ES-300WR will run and charge from AC or USB power sources at the same time. Epson told me that when the scanner is in use, the battery charges from AC outlets in just a couple hours; USB 3.0 takes about four hours, and USB 2.0 needs around 20 hours. The scanner charges faster, of course, when it's turned off. Epson doesn't claim a specific per-page battery life rating, but I scanned hundreds of pages on a single charge during my testing. Well thought out Traveling Companion. Like that you can use either Wi-Fi or USB connectivity. Job well done EPSON !!

I've had the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 for at least 5 yrs now, it worked (fine, I thought) but I took a new accounting job, working a lot more at home so I thought it might be nice to get something new (not even sure Epson ES-300 is much of an upgrade to S1300, wireless if nothing else). But wow, shocked how much of an "upgrade" it was. Epson wins hands down. There is nothing about the S1300 that I don't think the Epson does better. Super fast, better software, I can crop/edit/rotate right from the scan, wireless, odd size paper, dual sided, quieter, have tried stacks up to 15 sheets so far no problem, easy install...zero complaints from the Epson so far. Like I said, the S1300 worked...but wish I had made the switch long ago. Highly recommend the Epson.

Nice little scanner! We have several high-end sheetfeed scanners in in our office and this one seems just as good. Plus, when it’s not in use it hardly takes any space. We need TWAIN drivers for the software we use, so we probably won’t use the wireless functionality. The only minor negative is that it’s hard to open the unit on occasion; the slider seems to stick a little.
